Over the past few years, great changes have taken place in the countryside of Hainan Province, and Shenchong Village in Danzhou is a perfect example. Tourism has helped locals live better lives.
For example, 56-year-old He Sanjie once made a living by fishing. Now he works as a guard in the village’s tourist area, where old volcanic rocks have been built into paths, theaters and nice homestays (民宿).
Before tourism developed, Shenchong Village had 810 registered (登记的) people, but only about 100 lived there. Most villagers left for big cities. Now the empty stone houses have become warm and bright homestays. Roads are wider, and living conditions have improved greatly.
He Sanjie says the busiest season lasts from spring to autumn. He can make over 50,000 yuan a year just from land rent (租金). “In winter, we can stay in warm houses and have free time. We couldn’t do this before. At that time, we only fished and hardly made enough money,” he adds.
With the rise of tourism, the village has grown fast. In the first few months, around 40,000 visitors came. More young people are now returning from big cities to work in their hometown because they can look after their families and help build the village at the same time.
Thanks to government policies (政策), villagers now have more ways to make a living and enjoy a more comfortable life.
42. What did He Sanjie do before?
A. He ran a shop. B. He was a fisherman. C. He worked as a guard.
43. When is the busiest tourist season in Shenchong Village?

B. Because they didn’t like their jobs in cities.
C. Because they could work and look after their families.

A. By showing an example and describing changes.
B. By giving opinions and explaining reasons.
C. By comparing different places in Hainan.
46. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The History of Shenchong Village.
B. Tourism Changes Shenchong Village.

In the city of Shenzhen, there is a special place called the Longgang Energy Eco-Park. It is a large factory with an unusual job. Every day, it takes in 5,000 tonnes (公吨) of trash, or rubbish from homes across the city. But this is not a place where rubbish is simply buried in the ground. Instead, the park burns the trash in a safe way to create electricity. This clean power is then sent to millions of homes and offices in Shenzhen for everyday use. Lights turn on, computers run, and fridges keep food cold—all thanks to the energy made from yesterday’s trash.
The whole process (过程) is very smart. When the trash is burned inside a closed space, it leaves behind ash (灰). In many places, such ash is just thrown away. But at the Eco-Park, even this leftover is not wasted. Workers mix the ash with other safe materials to make special building blocks. These building blocks are strong and can be used to build new roads in the city. In this way, what used to be smelly trash becomes part of the ground we walk on. It is a perfect example of turning something useless into something useful.
China now has more than 1,000 waste-to-energy plants like this one. That is nearly half of all such plants in the whole world. The team at Longgang Energy Eco-Park is also working on bigger goals. They want to create “zero-waste cities,” which means reducing the harm that trash does to the environment as much as possible. For example, they study how to catch and store the gases from burning so they do not go into the air. In addition, they keep looking for new ways to reuse water and other materials from the burning process. Nothing is left to waste if it can be used again.
By turning dirty trash into bright lights and strong roads, these workers are showing us something important: with science and hard work, today’s rubbish can become tomorrow’s treasure. The Eco-Park is more than just a factory—it is a bridge between the waste we make and the energy we need. It proves that even the most common things we throw away can have a second life.
47. According to Para.1, where does the trash come from?
A. From factories in Shenzhen.
B. From homes across the city.
C. From other cities in China.
48. What does the underlined word “leftover” in Para.2 refer to?
A. The ash left after burning.
B. The electricity sent to homes.
C. The smelly trash before burning.
49. This chart shows how the Longgang Energy Eco-Park deals with trash. Which is the missing part?
A. bury the trash deep in the ground
B. turn the trash into new plastic bags
C. burn the trash safely to create electricity
50. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The Eco-Park burns trash in an open space.
B. The energy from trash can help fridges work.
C. China has less than 500 waste-to-energy plants.
51. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To explain how waste can be reused to create new things.
B. To describe how the Longgang Energy Eco-Park was built.
C. To introduce why China needs more waste-to-energy plants.

When we arrived, the park workers taught us how to plant trees correctly. First, we dug holes, then put young trees into them and finally watered them. Everyone worked in groups of four. Some students carried water, some dug holes and others held the trees. We felt tired but happy when we saw the little trees standing straight. By noon, we had planted over three hundred trees.

IT was a meaningful day because we did something good for the environment. 听力部分到此结束,现在你将有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。
