Passage 1
One recent weekend, I decided to learn how to make jiaozi with my grandmother. I thought it would be fun and easy at the very beginning, but soon it came to me that it wasn’t as simple as it looked.
At first, I didn’t pay attention to the sharp (锋利的) knife while cutting vegetables. My finger got cut because of my carelessness. Luckily, it wasn’t serious. Grandma was nervous, and quickly helped me clean the cut. “My poor little girl! Be careful next time!” said Grandma softly. Through the painful lesson, I learned the hard way that safety should always come first.
After that accident, I continued working with Grandma. We made the dough (面团), mixed the filling, and started shaping the dumplings. However, I kept making mistakes. Some of my dumplings were too thick, others were not properly sealed (封闭), and some even had too much filling, making them difficult to close. It was so discouraging, but Grandma kept encouraging me.
Until noon, we had a plate full of dumplings—some were perfect, and some were a bit messy. Dad ate my ugliest dumpling first. “Tastes better than it looks!” he laughed. Mom encouraged me, “I think __________________. I am so proud of you!”
Now I understand that making jiaozi isn’t just about the final product; it is about learning patience, having fun with my family, and improving through mistakes. Mistakes aren’t signs of weakness. Instead, they should be viewed (看待) as stepping stones to achievements.
1.What did the writer think of making jiaozi at the very beginning?
2.What happened to the writer’s finger because of her carelessness?
3.Did the writer give up making jiaozi after the accident?
4.Complete the sentence in paragraph 4 with proper words.
5.What does the writer view mistakes as?
1.It would be fun and easy. 2.It got cut. 3.No, she didn’t. 4.you did a great job 5.Mistakes should be viewed as stepping stones to achievements.
1.第一段明确指出“I thought it would be fun and easy at the very beginning, but soon it came to me that it wasn’t as simple as it looked.”,这是原文直接信息。
2.第二段明确指出“My finger got cut because of my carelessness.”,这是原文直接信息。
3.第三段明确指出“After that accident, I continued working with Grandma.”,这是原文直接信息。
4.第四段明确指出“Dad ate my ugliest dumpling first. ‘Tastes better than it looks!’ he laughed. Mom encouraged me, ‘I think... I am so proud of you!”,说明此处是夸奖的话。如:you did a great job。
Passage 2
There is a Chinese saying: Time and tide wait for no man. Have too many things to do in too little time? Well, (①) if you make a good plan, everything will be in order. The following will certainly help. If you can do all this, your every single day will be productive
·Make a list
It all begins with listing. If you don’t have a list, create one.
·Worst first
We often have one thing on the list, which is hanging over our heads and makes us worried. Work on it first and make the rest of your day easier.
·Just do it
Those small things are easier to deal with. Complete them and cross them off the list.
·Make things enjoyable
Have small breaks, enjoy music, or even a snack when you are tired. Life is short. Enjoy your work.
·Prime times
Which part of your time is most productive? When this time comes around, close your door so that it is just you and your work.
·Re-list
a. Sometimes you will not complete everything on your list. This is okay. Add them to tomorrow’s list with a star so that you will know they should be done first next day.
b. (②) By the day’s end you will have a rough (粗略的) idea of things you need to do tomorrow. Go ahead and list them. Tomorrow when you start fresh, you will not forget to do them.
1.What should you do if you are tired according to the passage?
2.What should you do if you cannot finish today’s work?
1.Have small breaks, enjoy music, or even a snack. 2.Add them to tomorrow’s list with a star (so that we will know they should be done first next day). 3. 4.How to Make Your Work in Order
1.文中“Make things enjoyable”部分明确提到“Have small breaks, enjoy music, or even a snack when you are tired.”,为原文直接信息,直接提取作答。
2.文中“Re-list”部分直接给出“Add them to tomorrow’s list with a star so that you will know they should be done first next day.”,为原文原句信息。
3.①“If you make a good plan”译为“如果你做好计划”。 “make a good plan”意为“做好计划”,用一般现在时表示条件。“everything will be in order”译为“那么所有的事情都会井井有条”。
②“By the day’s end”译为“在一天结束的时候”。“by”表示“在……之前”或“到……为止”,此处译为“在……时候”更符合汉语习惯。“the day’s end”是名词所有格,意为“一天的结束”。“you will have a rough idea of things”译为“你会有一个关于事情的粗略的想法”。“will have”用一般将来时,译为“会有”。“rough idea”意为“粗略的想法”。“you need to do tomorrow”译为“明天需要做的”。 整个“things you need to do tomorrow”译为“明天需要做的事情”,然后与前面的“关于”衔接。
Passage 3
Many people believe Andrea Bocelli has the most beautiful voice in the world. He is an Italian opera singer, musician, and musical producer. He has performed for many people worldwide. But how did his musical journey begin?
Bocelli was born in 1958 with an eye disease. But he became interested in musical instruments at an early age. When he was six years old, he began learning to play the piano. However, he became completely blind at age 12 after an accident. Blindness didn’t stop his love for music. He began to teach himself to read music in Braille (盲文) and learned to play the flute, saxophone, trumpet and more! He also began developing his singing. At age 14, he won a small singing competition near his hometown. Later, he studied law at university and sang in piano bars at night to pay for his studies. After graduating, he was a lawyer for just one year until he decided to follow his dream of music.
Bocelli got his big break in 1992 when he recorded a song for the famous singer, Luciano Pavarotti. Pavarotti was amazed by Bocelli’s voice, and they soon became friends. They recorded the song “Miserere” together, and it became a hit all over Europe!
Bocelli also joined two big events in China. He and his son performed “O sole mio” and “Fall on me” online for the 2021 Spring Festival Gala. He also sang the 2022 Winter Olympics theme song “Forever You and me”.
The Music of Silence is a movie that tells Andrea Bocelli’s life story. The director wanted to show the connection between hearing and loss of eyesight. When one sense is weak, sometimes the other senses are stronger. Bocelli’s blindness is one of the reasons why he can hear more of the tiny differences in his singing voice.
Andrea Bocelli doesn’t think blindness is a disability. He encourages people not just by his voice, but by his unbreakable spirit.
1.How did Bocelli learn music when he was completely blind? (no more than 8 words)
2.What is the English meaning of the underlined word “break” in paragraph 3? (no more than 10 words)
3.What changes did Bocelli’s blindness bring to his music? (no more than 11 words)

1.第二段明确提到 “He began to teach himself to read music in Braille and learned to play the flute, saxophone, trumpet and more!”
3.原文最后一段明确表述 “Bocelli’s blindness is one of the reasons why he can hear more of the tiny differences in his singing voice.”,可知,由于失明,他的听力得到了改善。
4.“When one sense is weak, sometimes the other senses are stronger.”
Face difficulties bravely to achieve your dreams!

Passage 1
Host: Hello, everyone! Inventions have changed our life a lot. Today, Tom, Jack and Anna will talk about how inventions help them in daily life—and how to use them wisely.
Tom (13, Beijing)—E-reader
I got an E-reader last year. It’s small and light so I can carry it easily. It holds hundreds of books, so I never run out of stories. I get new books online instead of buying paper ones. The screen is kind to eyes, even for long reads. But it needs charging (充电).
Jack (13, Hangzhou)—Online Study Apps
I use study apps daily. They have video lessons and practice exercises. Have problems with math? I can turn to them for help. They check homework fast, too. But I set a timer now. If I use them too long, I will forget to rest, which will be bad for my eyes. I think controlling time well when I use study apps can help me learn better.
Anna (14, Chengdu)—Smart Watch
My mom bought me a smart watch. It tells time, counts steps, and pushes me to walk more. It reminds me to drink water when I’m busy. Last week, I fell when I was running, and it messaged mom quickly. But it’s also inconvenient (不方便的) sometimes. If my phone is far away, the smart watch can’t work well. I keep them close but don’t check it too often—so it helps, not distracts (使分心).
Host: Thanks for sharing. Inventions are useful, but they can’t replace everything. We need to control them properly. That way, they serve us best.
1.What is Tom’s E-reader like? (no more than 5 words)
2.What does Jack set a timer for? (no more than 12 words)
3.Why is the smart watch sometimes inconvenient for Anna? (no more than 13 words)
1.It is small and light. 2.(He sets a timer) to avoid using the study apps too long./To control his time of using study apps and protect his eyes. 3.Because if her phone is far away, the smart watch can’t work well. 4. 5.Technology and Daily Life/Inventions Change Lives/How Inventions Help Us Wisely
1.Tom的描述“It’s small and light so I can carry it easily.”可知,Tom的电子阅读器小巧轻便,答案为“It is small and light.”,这是对原文的直接提取。
2.Jack的描述“But I set a timer now. If I use them too long, I will forget to rest, which will be bad for my eyes.”可知,Jack设置计时器是为了避免使用学习应用时间过长,答案“(He sets a timer) to avoid using the study apps too long./To control his time of using study apps and protect his eyes.”
3.Anna的描述“If my phone is far away, the smart watch can’t work well.”可知,智能手表有时不方便是因为如果手机离得远,它就不能正常工作,答案“Because if her phone is far away, the smart watch can’t work well.”
4.“The screen is kind to eyes, even for long reads.”中“be kind to”表示“对……友好”,“even for long reads”表示“即使长时间阅读”,所以翻译为“这款屏幕护眼/对眼睛很友好,即使长时间阅读也没问题/(也不会累眼)。”
5.文章主要围绕发明如何帮助青少年日常生活以及要合理使用发明展开,所以标题可以是“Technology and Daily Life/Inventions Change Lives/How Inventions Help Us Wisely”,这些标题都能概括文章主旨。
Passage 2
Cooperation (合作) comes from friendship, friendship comes from trust, and trust comes from kindness. It’s easy to tell that kindness is very important. What is kindness then? To be exact, kindness is the quality (品质) of being friendly. If we give up our seats on the bus, help a classmate solve a math problem, or welcome a new member into a group activity, we are showing kindness. Actually, these acts are done without expectation of reward (回报).
We begin to realize that while helping others, we’re in fact helping ourselves. Showing kindness benefits (使...受益) us in different ways. It helps us know about ourselves. It develops our problem-solving skills. It also gives us the chance to be thankful.
We can never imagine the power of one simple act of kindness. It may change our day. And that day may change our week. That week may change the rest of the year, or even our whole life.
In short, we rise by lifting others.
Here are some teenagers’ acts of kindness.
Linda: I sat next to a new student at lunch. I was pleased because I made her day.
Kayla: In order to raise money and protect wild animals, I held a singing competition. I was proud of it.
Peter: I opened the door for an old lady. I felt happy because I could help other people.

1.Kindness is the quality of being friendly./being friendly. 2.It helps us know about ourselves./ It develops our problem-solving skills./ It gives us the chance to be thankful. 3. 4.Actually, these acts are done without expectation of reward. 5.The Power of Kindness
To be exact, kindness is the quality of being friendly.
It helps us know about ourselves. It develops our problem-solving skills. It also gives us the chance to be thankful.
3.划线句子“In short, we rise by lifting others.”In short“简而言之”,by lifting others“托举他人”。
4.第一段提到:these acts are done without expectation of reward,结合三个青少年的案例,三个青少年的善举都不求回报。 Actually, these acts are done without expectation of reward.
Passage 3
[1] It’s a great pity that the respected Mr. Zhang Xuefeng has passed away. His death teaches us a meaningful lesson: health comes first in life, especially heart health. It is widely considered a problem for the middle-aged and elderly, yet it has become a common health subject among teenagers as well. As middle school students, we are busy with heavy schoolwork every day, but we must remember to build up a strong and healthy body.
[2] Some medical experts have offered several practical suggestions for teenagers to keep fit and protect their heart effectively. Firstly, it is necessary to stick to a regular daily life. Staying up late for extra study or endless phone use does great harm to the physical condition. It is strongly suggested that teenagers get no less than 8 hours of sleep every night, which enables us to keep energetic during daytime study.
[3] Secondly, proper and regular exercise is necessary for health. Many students live a sedentary (久坐的) life ①__________ any outdoor activities. Outdoor sports like jogging and cycling benefit teenagers a lot. Regular exercise can strengthen heart function greatly and improve the physical health.
[4] Thirdly, forming healthy eating habits plays a key role in heart protection. We are supposed to increase the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, and drink warm water rather than sweetened drinks. Fast food and food with too much salt are ②__________ to heart health, so we are advised to cut down the intake of such food as much as possible.
[5] What’s more, it is very important to learn to relax ③__________ properly. Too much pressure and long-term nervousness can also be bad for our physical health. When feeling tired or stressed out, we can listen to light music, communicate with close friends or family members timely. Keeping a positive and pleasant mood every day is also an excellent way to protect our heart.

Passage 1
A Skin-Deep Blue
Do you like blueberries? If so, the next time you’re about to eat your fill of these delicious berries, take a good look at them. Then ask yourself: Are blueberries really blue?
For the most part, blueberries aren’t blue. If you carefully peel the skin off one, you’ll see that the flesh inside is white. If you rub (摩擦) the inside of the skin (皮) on a white piece of paper, you’ll see a reddish-purple color. And if you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, the blue color disappears and the berry looks almost black. But the moment you pick one, it does look blue. What’s going on?
Well, there are two ways to create colors. The first is through pigments Pigments show the color of the light they don’t take in. The most common pigment in plants is chlorophyll, a green pigment. Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn’t take in green light. It sends it out instead while taking in blue and red light. Plants prefer to take in blue light because it has more energy than any other light. In fact, there aren’t any “true blue” pigments in the plant world.
The second way to make color is through structural color. This happens when the structure of a surface makes some colors of light look different. Have you ever seen the rainbow colors on a CD? These colors show up because of the tiny spaces between the disk’s thin layers. These spaces only allow certain colors to reach our eyes.
Blueberries also create “structural color” in their own way. The berries look black when they’re ripe, but the plants build a thin layer of wax (类似蜡的物质) on their outside. This layer is only four-thousandths of a centimeter thick, but it gives the berries their blue look. The blue color benefits the plants because birds are attracted (吸引) to the rare color. They eat the berries and spread the seeds far and wide.
Now your bowl of blueberries suddenly looks a lot more interesting. The fruit is beautiful, but its beauty is only skin deep!
When you look at a blueberry directly, it is . If you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, its color is . And if you peel the skin and look at the flesh, it is . If you rub the inside of the skin on white paper, you’ll see a reddish-purple color.
3.Why is it good for blueberry plants to have blue color?
4.Why does the writer say the beauty of blueberries is “only skin deep”?
1. Through pigments Through structural color Rainbow colors on a CD 2. blue almost black white 3.Because birds are attracted to the rare blue color and eat the berries, spreading the seeds far and wide. 4.Because the blue color of blueberries is only created by the thin layer of wax on their outside, and the flesh inside is white.
1.①文章第三段首句“The first is through pigments (天然色素).”
②文章第四段首句“The second way to make color is through structural color.”
③文章第四段以“Have you ever seen the rainbow colors on a CD? These colors show up because of the tiny spaces between the disk’s thin layers.”为例说明CD上的彩虹色是结构色,所以此处填“Rainbow colors on a CD”。
2.①文章第二段“But the moment you pick one, it does look blue.”
②文章第二段“And if you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, the blue color disappears and the berry looks almost black.”
③文章第二段“If you carefully peel the skin off one, you’ll see that the flesh inside is white.”
3.文章第五段“The blue color benefits the plants because birds are attracted (吸引) to the rare color. They eat the berries and spread the seeds far and wide.”直接说明了蓝莓呈现蓝色对植物的好处,即鸟类被罕见的蓝色吸引,吃掉蓝莓并将种子传播到各处,所以答案为“Because birds are attracted to the rare blue color and eat the berries, spreading the seeds far and wide.”
4.文章第五段“The berries look black when they’re ripe, but the plants build a thin layer of wax (类似蜡的物质) on their outside. This layer is only four-thousandths of a centimeter thick, but it gives the berries their blue look. The blue color benefits the plants...”以及第二段“If you carefully peel the skin off one, you’ll see that the flesh inside is white.”说明蓝莓的蓝色只是由外面一层薄薄的蜡创造的,里面的果肉是白色的,所以作者说蓝莓的美“只是表面的”,答案为“Because the blue color of blueberries is only created by the thin layer of wax on their outside, and the flesh inside is white.”

(Stop using..., Say no to..., Don’t buy...
空格后一句是“Other countries make customers pay for them.”(其他国家让顾客为它们此付费)。
后文紧接着提到“Most things you buy come in plastic packaging.”(你买的大多数东西都有塑料包装)。
5.前一句说“You can’t recycle all plastic things.”(你不能回收所有的塑料制品),这是一个消极的陈述。后一句说“For example, you can recycle bottles...”(例如,你可以回收瓶子……),这是一个积极的、具体的行动。

This made Ella’s heart full of joy. She had worked on the dress for two weeks and met many difficulties, but she felt it was all worth it. She believed it was going to be a great day.

Introduction to Gulliver’s Travels
Gulliver’s Travels is a famous satirical (讽刺的) novel written by the Irish writer Jonathan Swift. First published in 1726, it has become one of the most classic works of English literature.
Although it is often regarded as a children’s book because of its interesting adventure stories, it is actually a sharp satire that criticizes (批评) the flaws of human society and human nature. This book has been translated into many languages and is loved by readers of all ages around the world.
The main character of the book is Lemuel Gulliver, a doctor who loves traveling. The story tells four amazing adventures of Gulliver. In the first journey, he is shipwrecked and washed ashore on Lilliput, a country where all people are only about 15 cm tall. Gulliver becomes a giant in Lilliput and helps the Lilliputians defeat their enemy, Blefuscu. However, he later gets into trouble because of a conflict (矛盾) with the Lilliputian emperor and has to escape.
In his second journey, Gulliver arrives in Brobdingnag, a land of giants. Here, Gulliver is as small as a mouse compared to the local people. The giant king is kind to him and often asks him about the customs and politics of his country. Through their conversations, the king points out the absurdity (荒谬) of human wars and greed. Gulliver’s third journey takes him to several strange islands, including Laputa, a flying island where people are only interested in science and philosophy but ignore (无视) practical life.
The fourth and most famous journey is to the Land of the Houyhnhnms. The Houyhnhnms are wise and kind horses that live in harmony (和谐) with nature. They have their own moral values and live a simple and happy life. In contrast, the Yahoos, a group of ugly and greedy human-like creatures, are dirty and cruel. Gulliver is deeply moved by the Houyhnhnms and even wants to stay with them forever. However, he is eventually sent back to his own country, where he can no longer stand the greed and selfishness of humans.
Gulliver’s Travels is a great book for teenagers. It has exciting adventure stories that can attract readers easily, and it also teaches us to think about human nature and society. Reading this book can help us understand the flaws of human beings, such as greed, pride and war, and encourage us to be kind, wise and humble.

4.Why does the writer say the beauty of blueberries is “only skin deep”?

The story of Jianbing goes back to the Three Kingdoms Period. It is said that Zhuge Liang, a great military leader, created it as his army had no cooking tools.
