Tips for Talking to a Chatbot
How often do you talk to an AI assistant? A few times a week? Every day? Short conversations with AI can be helpful or entertaining. 1 Here are tips to keep in mind when talking to AI-powered tools.
Your voice matters. You should feel proud to make your unique voice heard. Sometimes you might feel discouraged or embarrassed as your own writing can’t live up to the smooth sentences and clever vocabulary of a chatbot. 2
Look to real people for important advice. When you need help, you should reach out to real people who you know and trust will get you meaningful, honest feedback. 3 By contrast, a chatbot doesn’t know you and can’t comfort you. A very serious mental-health crisis can be horribly mishandled by a chatbot.
Don’t fall for flattery (奉承). Chatbots love to shower praise and they’ll agree with almost anything you say. But sometimes you don’t need a cheerleader so much as a firm coach. After all, people know that criticism and correction help us learn and grow. Also, watch out for made-up facts. 4 When an honest person doesn’t know the answer to a question, they’ll say, “I don’t know.” However, chatbots don’t do that. They tend to confidently answer every question. So if you’re using a chatbot for something important, you’d better be very, very careful.
5 That means you shouldn’t share very personal information. Talking with a free chatbot is like posting on social media. On free mode, the company that built the bot and anyone they hire can see and use your data. Anything you say has the potential to spread far and wide.
A.Don’t use free chatbots.
B.But sometimes, things go wrong.
C.Keep private information to yourself.
D.Have you ever seen chatbots saying this?
E.The answers you’re getting may not be what you really need.
F.A true friend will call you out when you do something wrong.
G.But what you’re creating matters more than what a machine creates.
Passage 3
The Silk Road was a network of ancient trade routes across Asia to the Mediterranean Sea, a key bridge for East-West cultural and commercial exchanges. It let China trade with the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, fostering the flow of goods and ideas for centuries. 1 Before this name, the routes facilitated trade quietly, but the term stuck as silk — then a rare, China-exclusive fabric — was a main commodity.
Officially formed in the Western Han Dynasty, the Silk Road relied heavily on Zhang Qian, an imperial envoy Emperor Wu of Han sent him to make contact with countries in Central Asia. 2 His reports gave China precious insights into Western peoples, lands and customs, laying a foundation for the route’s long prosperity.
The Silk Road was more than a goods corridor. Besides silk, it carried fruits, livestock, grain, leather, tools and precious metals. 3 Paper was invented in China during the 3rd century BC, and its use spread via the Silk Road, arriving first in Samarkand in around AD 700, and then to Europe. Moreover, gunpowder also went west through this route.
Venetian explorer Marco Polo took the Silk Road to China, arriving in 1275 after a dangerous journey. He lived in China for years, witnessing China’s advanced civilization, and his journeys became the inspiration for The Travels of Marco Polo. 4
Today, the Silk Road is brought to life again. 5 This initiative, rooted in the ancient route’s spirit of cooperation, has reconnected Asian, European and African nations, continuing its cross-continental legacy.
A.It also served as a channel for Chinese inventions to reach the West.
B.He thus braved countless trials and hardships to reach the region.
C.China proposed the concept of the Silk Road Economic Belt in 2013.
D.The term “Silk Road” was first coined by a German geographer in 1877.
E.Some European kingdoms once tried to copy China’s silk-making techniques but failed.
F.Through this book, Europeans gained an understanding of Asian commerce and culture.
G.Eastern spices, for example, grew popular in Europe and changed its culinary traditions.
Passage 4
As technology continues to advance at an unbelievable pace, the role of AI has expanded into our daily lives, influencing how we work, create and even relax.
1 Imagine a world where AI handles your household chores. Smart appliances equipped with AI can sort wash and fold laundry, while others take care of the dishes and clean the floors.
These applications can save us time. By freeing us from the routine tasks, AI allows us to spend time and energy on what truly inspires us. 2 It enriches human life by allowing us to focus on what truly matters.
AI also has the potential to bring about changes to the way we work, perhaps giving us the opportunity to work less. 3 In this way, perhaps you can trial five-hour workday instead of working the traditional eight.
While AI offers numerous advantages, there is a risk associated with over-reliance on these technologies. 4 When AI becomes the primary source of ideas and innovation, the uniqueness of human creativity may be lost.
The use of AI in our lives should be approached with a balance between human well-being and creativity. While AI handles the ordinary, humans need to thrive in areas that require critical thinking and innovation. 5 .
A.The demand for workplace skills will also improve.
B.The balance ensures AI serves humans, rather than as opponents.
C.AI holds endless possibilities for more fulfilling life in the future.
D.AI can do simple and routine tasks you perform as part of your job.
E.Dependence on AI for creative work can decrease human creativity.
F.This transforms AI from a tool into an enabler of a more fulfilling life.
G.The essence of AI is to take over repetitive and time-consuming tasks.

How To Start a Compost Bin (堆肥桶)
Welcome to our easy guide on starting your own compost bin! Composting is a great way to reduce waste and even provides rich soil for your garden. Don’t worry if you just start out. 1
The first step is selecting a proper place. 2 Therefore, find an area that is hidden from view. Make sure the spot receives sunlight and has good drainage
3 There are various choices for you, such as bins with removable tops, wooden containers and even plastic boxes. Consider factors like size, cost, height and how much waste you create when deciding which type suits you best.
Start building your compost pile by layering suitable materials one by one, such as dry leaves or vegetable leftovers, etc. 4 Turning the pile occasionally helps air pass through, promoting breakdown and preventing unpleasant smells.
To keep your compost bin functioning well, not only should you regularly add new food waste but also turn the pile every few weeks to speed up breakdown. Remember to monitor moisture (湿度) levels. 5 After a few months of care, your compost will turn into dark, soil-like material. This means it’s ready to use! Put this rich soil in your garden, and you’ll see your plants grow strong and healthy. We hope this guide has provided you with the knowledge and inspiration to begin your composting journey. Happy composting!
A.The bigger, the better.
B.Composting doesn’t look good.
C.Now, time to choose the right type of bins.
D.Leave them as they are after they break down naturally.
E.Avoid meat products and milk as these can produce bad smell.
F.Our step-by-step guide will walk you through the whole process.
G.It means you should adjust as needed by adding water or dry materials.
Passage 4
Ways to Overcome Self-Doubt Once and for All
People all experience some periods of self-doubt in life. Self-doubt is when we are unsure about ourselves; it happens to us during normal days or whenever we are going to start something new in our life, like a new job or a new relationship. 1 It can even limit our potential and block our way to success. Now it’s time to be strong. Here are some strategies that we can use to overcome self-doubt.
Reflect back to past achievements.
Remember the time when we achieved something remarkable? Self-reflection is one of the best tools to remove self-doubt. It makes us remember that we once achieved something great, and it makes us believe that we can achieve that level of success again through concentrated efforts. 2 It’s wise to learn from our previous mistakes and move on!
Start journaling events.
In life, there will come many events that we are thankful for, especially our excellent achievements. 3 This journaling of events will be really helpful when we are doubting ourselves. Compare ourselves to the time when we achieved greatness, and convince ourselves that we can be that person again.
Seek professional help if necessary.
There are periods when we are too hard on ourselves — we don’t believe our goals and efforts are making for the betterment of our lives; this is self-sabotage — an extreme end of self-doubt. 4 Talk about our feelings often, and let all the negative emotions out; this will make us feel a lot better. 5
People always want to keep up with the Joneses. However, unrealistically drawing a parallel between others and us is a harmful act. Why would we identify ourselves with a family member, a friend, or our colleague when each of our lives is different? We should focus on ourselves and our own achievements, which will allow us to fulfill our goals without any worries.
A.Be our own biggest critic.
B.Never compare with others.
C.It is better to start keeping track of them.
D.Never live in the memory, but learn to strive from the past!
E.If not taken care of professionally, this can become a painful barrier.
F.Self-doubt isn’t that bad, which can motivate us and push us to be better in life.
G.Such a feeling will lead us into a dark situation where nothing seems to go right.

Passage 1
The earth gives us life. 1 However, the human beings that don’t appreciate the earth, let harmful gases cause pollution and kill millions of animals living here with us, don’t deserve the planet and should be punished and pay the price.
The earth lets us breathe. 2 . It’s totally wrong to destroy nature and take what we have for granted. Never take what you have for granted, because one day it could all be gone. If you have already worked for or managed a factory that lets off harmful gases, or if you have gone hunting and killed something that share harmony with us, there is no way to make it up to our planet. 3 I can’t hear what our planet is saying. No one really knows that, but I know that if I were the earth and someone didn’t care about the life I gave them so trustingly, I wouldn’t forgive them.
4 The only thing that really matters and helps is to just take care of the life around you. Respect it and appreciate it and don’t ever take what you have for granted! 5 Trees would be growing from the healthiest of soil instead of being firewood or just cut down to make room and space for another factory with more destructive chemicals. The sky wouldn’t be dirty and smog filled, with no room for the sun or clean air to be breathed in. The earth wouldn’t bodying. It’s not one person’s duty; it’s every person’s. We should take action immediately before it’s too late.
A.However, there are ways to help our planet not become worse so rapidly!
B.The earth is so useful that we can’t live without it.
C.It gives us food, water, shelter and natural beauty.
D.The minute a life is lost, forgiveness is not possible.
E.If you take good care of the earth, it will surely pay back.
F.The human beings that care for it and love it deserve what our planet provides us with.
G.If everyone did just that and cared creatures all over our world wouldn’t’t be endangered.
Passage 2
Being eco-conscious (生态意识) doesn't have to stress you out or expand your budget. Learn how to be kind to the earth while also enjoying life. Here are some small but significant steps you can take.
Go LED with your lighting. There are several benefits of switching to energy-saving light bulbs(灯泡). 1 Though the upfront cost might be more than traditional bulbs, the average savings on LED bulbs is $ 75 a year. Plus, you won't be spending nearly as much time changing burnt - -out bulbs as you used to: LED bulbs can last years or even decades, depending on the type you buy.
2 On those days when you' re out of patience and low on time, don' t blame yourself if you have to use paper plates and cups instead of your dishwasher- -especially if you ’re hosting a large crowd. After all, Americans waste too much of water every year. Generally, dishwashers are required to design to use no more than 5 gallons of water per cycle and 307 kwh/ year. 3 So in this point, using recyclable paper plates can save more.
Turn off water when you are not using it. Every drop does count when it comes to water usage. 4 Don't ignore this little time. If everyone does in this way, we can save a lot of water every day. There is also great low -flow equipment for showers and toilets. But if you don't want to change them, you can just switch them off when you' re not using them. 5
A.Don't always use paper plates.
B.One of them is saving money.
C.This is a good way to save water.
D.Don't feel guilty about using paper plates.
E.Besides, a good dishwasher can save more electricity.
F.That includes the two minutes you spend brushing your teeth.
G.That's still quite a lot of water and energy to use every day.

While yoga is known for enhancing balance, flexibility, and calmness, it’s often considered less effective for weight loss than other exercises. However, even non-intense yoga sustains lasting calorie burning after practice. 1 . Here’s more about how yoga is a complete body and mind workout.
Removing stress, Reducing pounds
Yoga helps manage stress, and studies show high levels of cortisol, a stress hormone (荷尔蒙), can lead to an increase in fat. Yoga has an impact on the body’s stress response and reduces the production of hormones linked to weight again. 1 . In one study, researchers found that practicing yoga seemed to impact the hypothalamus (下丘脑), reducing cortisol production. And another study found that doing meditative (冥想的) yoga reduced participants’ cortisol levels.
Making weight loss last
Recent research shows long-term yoga aids weight loss and boosts cognitive skills for a positive mood. Jessica, a Brown University professor, led a study on yoga’s practicability of weight maintenance. 1 . Jessica adds that someone experiencing a more positive mood may be less likely to overeat in response to negative emotions, or may be able to get back on track more easily after an overeating period, versus feeling guilty about overeating and continuing to engage in unhealthy practices.
2
A study found no difference in weight loss totals for participants practicing a gentle yoga versus a more energetic yoga. The best yoga is the practice that fits for you. ‘There are many accessible styles of yoga that meet you where you’re no matter what your size, age, physical challenge or background. 3 .
A.Practicing a gentle yoga
B.Choosing the right type
C.Everybody can benefit from a yoga practice
D.There’s no one style of yoga that’s best for weight loss
E.That’s because yoga’s other benefits can help with weight loss too
F.Several studies have confirmed that doing yoga does reduce cortisol levels
G.It shows yoga may enhance long-term weight loss via a more positive mood
Passage 2
Are you a social media addict? Are you always checking your smartphone to see how many “likes” you’ve received for your latest post? 1 Most of us check our phones an average of 150 times a day. Around 30% of the total time spent online is dedicated to social media. The occasional post on Twitter or a few minutes scrolling through our Facebook feed can be a relaxing addition to our day. 2
This is something particularly making young adults painful, according to a study from the University of Pittsburgh. 3 In tests, those people who check social media frequently are 2.7 times more likely to be depressed compared to those who spend most of their time generally surfing the Internet, who have just 1.7 times the risk.
Some of us certainly feel sad when we’re ignored on social media sites, or when we see someone else having a better time than us. 4 A clinical psychologist, Abigael San, recently told the BBC that, “It’s a real issue, and it’s been getting significantly worse over the last 5-6 years. You can get so hooked that it takes you away from your real relationships and you will even feel depressed.” However, Abigael does admit that social media is more likely to make pre-existing issues worse than directly cause them.
5 Well, I suppose we all want to be liked and we don’t want to miss out on a conversation that’s taking place online. But we need to know when to switch off our virtual online world and connect with the real world instead.
A.Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
B.But depression is a more serious condition.
C.In fact, phones are increasingly useful to us.
D.It takes a lot of self-discipline to get rid of such a bad habit.
E.Some experts now fear this habit could be damaging our mental health.
F.Despite these warning signs, why do some of us continue to keep clicking?
G.It finds the more they use social media, the more likely they are to be depressed.
Passage 3
At first glance, it seems to be Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece Girl with a Pearl Earring. 1 Wearing two glowing earrings, there’s a slightly inhuman shade of red on the girl’s face.
Look strange? 2 Chosen from 3,482 submitted images based on the Vermeer masterpiece, the Al-generated work was displayed at the Mauritshuis Museum in the Netherlands in March. The designer looked on the experience of literally replacing the famous painting by one of his AI images crazy and completely surreal.
3 Though Mauritshuis press officer Boris de Munnick insisted that it was a nice picture and a creative process, many people questioned whether it could be called art and if it was qualified to be shown in the museum gallery. 4 It was regarded as a disrespect for the masterpiece of Vermeer and also for any working artist.
In fact, this is not the first time that people have debated AI’s role in creativity. 5 But the technology has now become widely available for regular everyday use and the practice of using AI image generators to make art has become more common.
A.Coming from a museum, it’s really embarrassing.
B.However, the AI image raised a fierce argument.
C.But look more closely and you may find something different about it.
D.One common concern is whether AI-generated works break copyright laws.
E.Dutch artist Iris Compiet described the image on display as almost Frankenstein-ish.
F.It’s actually an image made by Berlin-based designer Julian van Dieken using artificial intelligence.
G.The emergence of such AI works is believed by many to weaken the enthusiasm of artists with creative skills.

Passage 1
How to Wake Up Feeling Motivated
We’ve all been there. The alarm goes off in the morning and we repeatedly press that extra sleep button to enjoy a few more minutes of precious sleep. However, it isn’t always the best way to start the day. What you do in the morning can set the tone for the rest of your day. 1 You may actually stick with it!
Prepare the Night Before. When it comes to tips on how to wake up, the best morning routine will actually depend on what you do the night before. 2 Writing down your worries can help you relax, knowing that you can tackle them another time.
3 Whether your goal is to get up and read an article or book, check your email, do some housework, exercise, or even play a game, having an objective to complete is a great way to get your body and mind motivated. No matter what activity you choose, this can be a great way to energize you for the day.
Hydrate (补充水分) When You Wake. You’ve just gone approximately eight hours without eating or drinking, so your body could use a pick-me-up. 4 Many experts suggest that you try drinking some water to start your metabolism (新陈代谢) first. This helps you stay energetic all day long.
Call a Loved One. Start your morning by connecting with a beloved family member or best friend. 5 It can help you connect with friends and family who live far away (check your time zones, though!) and remind you of what you’re thankful for in life.
A.Morning exercise makes your day.
B.Start your morning with an activity.
C.Don’t rush for that cup of coffee just yet, though.
D.It can be of great help to set a positive tone for the day.
E.Take the time to review your day and plan out your morning.
F.Check out these tips for building an effective morning routine.
G.Writing down any ongoing projects or problems may trouble your sleep.
Passage 2
Getting back into exercise can be a challenge in the best of times, but with gyms and in-person exercise classes off-limits to many people these days, it can be tricky to know where to start. And it’s important to get the right amount of activity. “Too much too soon either results in injury or burnout,” says Mary Yoke, PhD. 1
2 Don’t try to go back to what you were doing before your break. If you were walking 3 miles a day, playing 18 holes of golf three times a week, or lifting 10-pound dumbbells for three sets of 10 reps, reduce activity to half a mile every other day. Increase time, distance, and intensity gradually. “This isn’t something you can do overnight,” says Keri L. Denay, MD.
If you’re breathing too hard to talk in complete sentences, back off. If you feel good, go a little longer or faster. 3 Go easier next time. And stay alert to serious symptoms, such as chest pain or pressure, severe shortness of breath or dizziness, or faintness, and seek medical attention immediately.
Consistency is the key to getting stronger and building endurance. Ten minutes of activity per day is a good start. 4 All the experts we spoke with highly recommend walking because it’s the easiest, most accessible form of exercise. Although it can be a workout on its own, if your goal is to get back to Zumba classes, tennis, cycling, or any other activity, walking is also a great first step.
Even if you can’t yet do a favorite activity, you can practice the moves. With or without a club or racket, swing like you’re hitting the ball. Paddle like you’re in a boat. Copy your favorite swimming moments. 5
A.Start Low, Go Slow.
B.Aim High, Push Hard.
C.Feeling wiped out after a session?
D.You can also join a livestream exercise class.
E.It can lay a solid foundation for your future exercise plans.
F.This action will remind you of the joy the activity brought you.
G.The following strategies will help you return to exercise safely after a break.
Passage 3
I caught sight of myself in a cafe window the other day, bent over my phone, with my head down and shoulders tense near my ears. 1 And I began to wonder how good it could feel to shake it off.
Small, everyday habits can lead to bad posture (体态). Whether we are using our phones on the sofa or working at the kitchen table, we may bend over or sit in one place for too long without noticing it. But over time, little things can become habits. And those little habits? 2 Poor posture does more than cause muscle aches. It can also affect your breathing, mood, and energy levels. When we bend forward, our chest becomes less open, which limits oxygen intake and often leads to shallow breathing. 3
That is why good posture matters. It benefits us physically, mentally, and emotionally. It can help reduce pain, improve breathing, and enhance digestion, while also boosting energy levels and helping us sleep better. But there’s a gap between knowing posture is good and actually making it a habit. 4 Essentially, good posture means keeping your body in the right position whether you are standing, walking, or sitting. This means keeping your head, shoulders, and hips in line, relaxing your shoulders, engaging your core, and avoiding unnecessary tension.
5 Because little changes add up, experts recommend a few simple but effective ways to improve it. When sitting at your desk, keep your feet flat on the floor, support your lower back, and relax your shoulders. When using your phone, bring the screen up to eye level instead of bending your neck down.
A.So what does good posture actually look like?
B.Posture is a habit that affects almost everything you do.
C.Why do people usually need to maintain good posture?
D.It is often caused by the way we sit, stand, and use our phones.
E.Over time, this can make you feel tired, anxious or emotionally low.
F.That’s when I realized how easily bad posture slips into our daily life.
G.They can have a lasting impact on our bodies in ways we might not realize.

How to Take a Good Profile Picture
Your profile picture is often the first impression you make online — 1 . A great profile photo can help you stand out. We’ll walk you through simple tips to make it.
2
The first step is to clean your face. If you usually like a clean-shaven look, this is the perfect time. Once your face is prepared, it’s time to move on to makeup. A natural look is highly advisable. Be specific in your product selection: avoid shiny makeup and opt for a non-glossy foundation instead, as this will prevent your skin from appearing overly shiny in the final photo. After the face and makeup are sorted, make it suit your hair type. For example, if you have straight hair, wash and give it a good brush; if your hair is thick, proper conditioning is key.
Getting the pose right
1 and don’t stand too far from the camera. A shoulders-up shot with your head centered usually gives the best results. Next, consider the space around your face. You want some breathing room, but not too much distance. As for your expression, choose one that truly reflects your personality. 2 ; tension is easily visible in photos. Practice in the mirror to find your most natural look. Finally, since not everyone has a perfectly balanced face, take test photos from both sides.
Finding a good background
Your choice of location matters significantly. Opting for a natural setting such as a park, backyard, or forest not only brings in a refreshing and lively atmosphere but also benefits from excellent outdoor lighting. If you’re aiming for something more professional, an office or library can be ideal. Your bedroom, too, can be a great option. A tidy, well-lit bedroom can add a personal touch and a cozy feeling. Select a clean, minimalistic backdrop that enhances your appearance without overshadowing the image. 1 .
A.Having your face right
B.Preparing for the photo
C.Be sure to keep it simple
D.Remember to relax your face
E.Position your face in the middle
F.whether you prefer a profile photo or not matters
G.whether for social media or professional platforms

Passage 1
Bamboo is one of the world’s most useful plants. For thousands of years, bamboo has been used in many different ways.
However, bamboo is not often used as a building material in the developed world. It is not made according to officially set measurements, or standards. It simply grows in the ground. Professor Kent Harries at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania is trying to change that. 1 They are testing its radial load, or how much pressure or weight it can take before breaking.
Building codes everywhere require strict standardization of tests for all materials, such as timber or concrete. But tests for bamboo have not been standardized. 2 They need to be standardized.
Standardizing test methods for bamboo will help to bring the plant into common use, or the mainstream. It will also give engineers and builders a dependable standard---or as Harries says, a testing method they can hang their hat on.
Harries sees bamboo as a great building material. 1 Besides its strength, Harries says that bamboo has other features that make it a great building material. He says it is resilient, meaning it keeps its shape and strength even under pressure. What’s more, bamboo also grows quickly. Bamboo needs much less time to grow than wood.
Harries says bamboo poles could be joined together into columns for building floors and roofs. 2 It is also used for furniture or man-made building products such as flooring and window covers, or blinds.
However, for building, bamboo is not used much outside its native growing area. This is mostly because of its round shape. But there are other reasons too. 3 People think or have the mentality that bamboo is a low quality building material for poor people, and people need to try to get it over, according to Professor Kent Harries.
A.In many countries they are already used for wall panel structures.
B.The professor and his students are testing the strength of bamboo.
C.First, it is strong, and the strength of at least three species of bamboo is similar to steel.
D.Why is bamboo a great building material?
E.Bamboo, it seems, has an image problem.
F.Bamboo should be used as widely as possible.
G.Harries says that testing methods for bamboo need to be the same for all.

Passage 2

1.根据前文“Short conversations with AI can be helpful or entertaining.(与人工智能的简短对话可能是有益的或有趣的。)”以及后文“Here are tips to keep in mind when talking to AI-powered tools.(这里有一些与人工智能工具交谈时要记住的建议。)”
2.根据前文“Sometimes you might feel discouraged or embarrassed as your own writing can’t live up to the smooth sentences and clever vocabulary of a chatbot.(有时你可能会感到气馁或尴尬,因为你自己的写作比不上聊天机器人流畅的句子和巧妙的词汇。)”可知,前文提到人类写作不如机器人,此空应进行转折,强调人类创作更重要,G选项“But what you’re creating matters more than what a machine creates.(但你创作的东西比机器创作的更重要。)”
3.根据前文“When you need help, you should reach out to real people who you know and trust will get you meaningful, honest feedback.(当你需要帮助时,你应该联系你认识和信任的真人,他们会给你有意义、诚实的反馈。)”以及后文“By contrast, a chatbot doesn’t know you and can’t comfort you.(相比之下,聊天机器人不了解你,也不能安慰你。)”可知,此空应举例说明真正的朋友会给出真实反馈,F选项“A true friend will call you out when you do something wrong.(当你出错时,真正的朋友会指出你的错误。)”
4.根据前文“Also, watch out for made-up facts.(还要注意编造的事实。)”以及后文“When an honest person doesn’t know the answer to a question, they’ll say, “I don’t know.” However, chatbots don’t do that. (当诚实的人不知道问题的答案时,他们会说“我不知道”。然而,聊天机器人不会这样做。)”可知,此空应反问读者是否见过机器人说这句话,D选项“Have you ever seen chatbots saying this?(你见过聊天机器人说这句话吗?)”
5.根据后文“That means you shouldn’t share very personal information.(这意味着你不应该分享非常私人的信息。)”
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.F 5.C
1.根据后文“Before this name, the routes facilitated trade quietly, but the term stuck as silk — then a rare, China-exclusive fabric — was a main commodity.(在这名称出现之前,这些路线默默地促进了贸易往来,但“丝绸之路”这一说法却流传开来,因为当时丝绸——一种稀有的中国特产——是主要的贸易商品)”可知,空后句子提到“Before this name, the routes facilitated trade quietly(在这个名字出现之前,这些路线就默默推动着贸易发展)”,这里的 this name 是关键的指代线索。选项D “The term “Silk Road” was first coined by a German geographer in 1877.(“丝绸之路” 这一术语于 1877 年由一位德国地理学家首次提出)”正好解释了“这个名字”的由来,与后文形成时间上的先后逻辑。故选D。
2.根据上文“Officially formed in the Western Han Dynasty, the Silk Road relied heavily on Zhang Qian, an imperial envoy. Emperor Wu of Han sent him to make contact with countries in Central Asia.(丝绸之路于西汉时期正式形成,其发展主要得益于张骞这位朝廷使节。汉武帝派遣他前往中亚地区与各国建立联系)”可知,前文提到汉武帝派张骞出使中亚,选项B “He thus braved countless trails and hardships to reach the region.(于是他冒着无数艰难险阻抵达了该地区)”中的 He 指代张骞,thus 承接前文的“出使任务”,说明张骞的行动过程,后文又接着讲他的报告带来的影响,逻辑连贯。故选B。
3.根据上文“The Silk Road was more than a goods corridor. Besides silk, it carried fruits, livestock, grain, leather, tools and precious metals.(丝绸之路不仅仅是一条货物运输通道。除了丝绸之外,它还运输水果、牲畜、谷物、皮革、工具以及贵重金属)”可知,前文总述丝绸之路“不只是商品走廊”,并列举了丝绸、水果等商品;后文则具体提到了造纸术和火药这两项中国发明通过丝绸之路传播到西方。选项A“It also served as a channel for Chinese inventions to reach the West.(它也成为中国发明传向西方的渠道)”起到了承上启下的作用,既呼应前文的“不止是商品”,又引出后文的“发明传播”。故选A。
4.根据上文“Venetian explorer Marco Polo took the Silk Road to China, arriving in 1275 after a dangerous journey. He lived in China for years, witnessing China’s advanced civilization, and his journeys became the inspiration for The Travels of Marco Polo.(威尼斯探险家马可·波罗沿着丝绸之路抵达中国,历经艰险于1275年抵达。他在中国生活了多年,目睹了中国先进的文明,而他的这段旅程成为了《马可·波罗游记》的创作灵感来源)”可知,前文提到马可・波罗的游记《马可・波罗行纪》,选项 F“Through this book, Europeans gained an understanding of Asian commerce and culture.(通过这本书,欧洲人得以了解亚洲的商业和文化)”中的this book直接指代这部游记,承接前文说明这本书的影响,逻辑通顺。故选F。
5.根据上文“Today, the Silk Road is brought to life again.(如今,丝绸之路再度焕发出勃勃生机)”以及后文“This initiative, rooted in the ancient route’s spirit of cooperation, has reconnected Asian, European and African nations, continuing its cross-continental legacy.(这一举措秉承了这条古老贸易路线所蕴含的合作精神,重新将亚洲、欧洲和非洲的国家连接了起来,延续了其跨越大陆的悠久传统)”可知,前文说“如今,丝绸之路再次焕发生机”,后文提到 This initiative(这一倡议)重塑了亚欧非国家的联系。选项C“China proposed the concept of the Silk Road Economic Belt in 2013.(中国于2013年提出了丝绸之路经济带的理念)”中的“丝绸之路经济带”正是后文 this initiative 指代的内容,解释了丝绸之路“重现生机”的具体体现。故选C。
1.后文“Imagine a world where AI handles your household chores. Smart appliances equipped with AI can sort wash and fold laundry, while others take care of the dishes and clean the floors. (想象这样一个世界:AI帮你打理所有家务。搭载AI的智能家电能自动分类清洗并叠好衣物,其他设备则负责洗碗拖地)”举例说明AI如何帮助处理家务,此处作为段首句,应该是概括性的句子,点明AI的本质,因此G项“The essence of AI is to take over repetitive and time-consuming tasks. (AI的本质是接管重复性任务)”符合语境,统领后文,其中的repetitive and time-consuming tasks和后文的household chores呼应。故选G。
2.前文“By freeing us from the routine tasks, AI allows us to spend time and energy on what truly inspires us. (通过将我们从日常琐事中解放出来,AI让我们能把时间和精力投入到真正激发灵感的事物上)”指出AI节省时间,让人专注于真正重要的事,后文“It enriches human life by allowing us to focus on what truly matters. (它让我们能够专注于真正重要的事物,从而丰富了人类的生活)”提到AI丰富人类生活,此处应该是AI如何提升生活质量的过渡句,因此F项“This transforms AI from a tool into an enabler of a more fulfilling life. (这使AI从工具转变为更充实生活的推动者)”符合语境,强调AI的角色转变,承前启后,其中的This指代前一句内容。故选F。
3.前文“AI also has the potential to bring about changes to the way we work, perhaps giving us the opportunity to work less. (与此同时,AI还可能改变我们的工作方式,甚至可能让我们减少工作时长)”指出AI改变工作方式,后文“In this way, perhaps you can trial five-hour workday instead of working the traditional eight. (如此一来,你或许可以尝试每天工作五小时,而非传统的八小时工作制)”举例5小时工作制,此处需说明AI如何实现这一点,因此D项“AI can do simple and routine tasks you perform as part of your job. (AI可以完成你工作中简单且重复的任务)”符合语境,解释AI接管常规任务,承前启后。故选D。
4.前文“While AI offers numerous advantages, there is a risk associated with over-reliance on these technologies. (尽管AI带来诸多优势,但过度依赖这项技术也存在风险)”指出过度依赖AI有风险,后文“When AI becomes the primary source of ideas and innovation, the uniqueness of human creativity may be lost. (当AI成为创意和创新的主要来源时,人类创造力的独特性可能会消失)”具体说明人类创造力有消失的风险,此处应点明对创造力的危害,因此E项“Dependence on AI for creative work can decrease human creativity. (依赖AI完成创造性工作会削弱人类创造力)”符合语境,承前启后,其中的Dependence和前文的over-reliance呼应,human creativity在后文有同词复现。故选E。
5.前文“The use of AI in our lives should be approached with a balance between human well-being and creativity. While AI handles the ordinary, humans need to thrive in areas that require critical thinking and innovation. (在我们生活中运用AI时,需要在人类福祉与创造力之间寻求平衡。当AI处理常规事务时,人类更应专注于需要批判性思维和创新精神的领域)”指出需平衡AI的使用,此处应陈述平衡的意义,因此B项“The balance ensures AI serves humans, rather than as opponents. (这种平衡确保AI服务于人类,而非成为对立面)”符合语境,承接前文,其中的balance在前文有同词复现。故选B。

1.上文“Self-doubt is when we are unsure about ourselves; it happens to us during normal days or whenever we are going to start something new in our life, like a new job or a new relationship.(自我怀疑是指我们对自己不确定的时候;它发生在正常日子里,或者当我们开始生活中的新事物时,比如一份新工作或一段新关系。)”说明自我怀疑是一种消极情绪,G项“Such a feeling will lead us into a dark situation where nothing seems to go right.(这种感觉会让我们陷入一个黑暗的境地,似乎一切都不顺利。)”
2.上文“Self-reflection is one of the best tools to remove self-doubt. It makes us remember that we once achieved something great, and it makes us believe that we can achieve that level of success again through concentrated efforts.(自我反省是消除自我怀疑的最好工具之一。它让我们记得我们曾经取得过巨大的成就,它让我们相信我们可以再次通过集中精力取得同样的成功。)”说明自我反省可以帮助我们消除自我怀疑,D项“Never live in the memory, but learn to strive from the past!(永远不要活在记忆中,而要学会从过去中奋斗!)”
3.上文“In life, there will come many events that we are thankful for, especially our excellent achievements.(在生活中,会有许多值得我们感激的事情,尤其是我们取得的优异成绩。)”说明生活中有许多值得感激的事情,C项“It is better to start keeping track of them.(最好开始记录它们。)”承接上文,说明要记录生活中值得感激的事情,下文“This journaling of events will be really helpful when we are doubting ourselves.(当我们怀疑自己的时候,记录这些事情会很有帮助。)”中的“This journaling of events”指代选项中的“keeping track of them”。故选C。
4.上文“There are periods when we are too hard on ourselves — we don’t believe our goals and efforts are making for the betterment of our lives; this is self-sabotage — an extreme end of self-doubt.(有时候我们对自己太苛刻了——我们不相信自己的目标和努力是为了让我们的生活变得更好;这是自我破坏——自我怀疑的极端。)”说明自我怀疑会破坏自我,E项“If not taken care of professionally, this can become a painful barrier.(如果没有专业的处理,这会成为一个痛苦的障碍。)”承接上文,说明自我怀疑会成为痛苦的障碍,下文“Talk about our feelings often, and let all the negative emotions out; this will make us feel a lot better.(经常谈论我们的感受,释放所有的负面情绪;这会让我们感觉好多了。)”

【答案】1.F 2.C 3.D 4.A 5.G
空后一句However 表示转折,句中的“the human beings that don’t appreciate the earth,…don’t deserve…”与选项F中的“The human beings that care for it and love it deserve ….”
根据前句“The earth lets us breathe”。 选项C中的it指代前一句的the earth。故选C项。
下文提到“if I were the earth and someone didn’t care about the life I gave them so trustingly, I wouldn’t forgive them. 如果我是地球,有人不在乎我如此信任给与他们的生活,我不会原谅他们。”,与选项D语义相顺承;forgive与选项D中的forgiveness是同根词复现。故选D 项。
4.选项A意思为: 然而,有一些方法可以帮助我们的地球不要如此快得变得糟糕!该空位于段首,应该是该段的总起句;下文是建议大家关爱生命,行动起来,是对选项A 的进一步说明。故选A项。
选项G是顺承上面的话题;其中“If everyone did just that”即是指上一句的内容“Respect it and appreciate it and don’t ever take what you have for granted!”故选G项。

【答案】1.B 2.D 3.G 4.F 5.C

【答案】1.A 2.E 3.G 4.B 5.F
1.根据上文“Are you a social media addict? Are you always checking your smartphone to see how many ‘likes’ you’ve received for your latest post?(你对社交媒体上瘾吗?你是否总是查看你的智能手机,看看你的最新帖子收到了多少个‘赞’)”及下文“Most of us check our phones an average of 150 times a day. Around 30% of the total time spent online is dedicated to social media. (我们大多数人平均每天查看手机150次。大约30%的上网时间花在了社交媒体上)”可知,前面让读者反思自己查看社交媒体是否特别频繁,下文说大部分人都这样频繁地翻看手机,很多都是和社交媒体有关。由此可知,A. Don’t worry, you’re not alone.(别担心,你不是一个人)承上启下。故选A项。
2.根据上文“The occasional post on Twitter or a few minutes scrolling through our Facebook feed can be a relaxing addition to our day.( 偶尔在推特上发个帖子,或者在Facebook上刷几分钟,都可以让我们的一天放松下来)”和第二段中“This is something particularly making young adults painful, according to a study from the University of Pittsburgh.(根据匹兹堡大学的一项研究,这尤其让年轻人感到痛苦)”及“In tests, those people who check social media frequently are 2.7 times more likely to be depressed compared to those who spend most of their time generally surfing the Internet, who have just 1.7 times the risk. (在测试中,那些经常查看社交媒体的人患抑郁症的可能性是那些把大部分时间都花在浏览网页上的人的2.7倍,他们只有1.7倍的风险)”可知,上文说偶尔翻翻手机可以使我们放松一下,但是下面的段落主要介绍如果翻看社交媒体形成习惯甚至成瘾有可能导致抑郁症,对人们心理健康的影响。语义发生转折,由此可知,E. Some experts now fear this habit could be damaging our mental health.(一些专家现在担心这种习惯会损害我们的心理健康)符合语境,引出下文。故选E项。
3.根据上文“This is something particularly making young adults painful, according to a study from the University of Pittsburgh.(根据匹兹堡大学的一项研究,这尤其让年轻人感到痛苦)”及下文“In tests, those people who check social media frequently are 2.7 times more likely to be depressed compared to those who spend most of their time generally surfing the Internet, who have just 1. 7 times the risk.(在测试中,那些经常查看社交媒体的人患抑郁症的可能性是那些把大部分时间都花在浏览网页上的人的2.7倍,他们只有1.7倍的风险)”可知,该研究证明查看社交媒体越多,患抑郁症的风险就越大。 G. It finds the more they use social media, the more likely they are to be depressed.(研究发现,他们使用社交媒体越多,就越有可能抑郁)承上启下,It指代前面a study from the University of Pittsburgh,宾语从句内容与下文一致。故选G项。
4.根据上文“Some of us certainly feel sad when we’re ignored on social media sites, or when we see someone else having a better time than us.(当我们在社交媒体网站上被忽视时,或者当我们看到别人过得比我们好时,我们中的一些人肯定会感到难过)”及下文心理学家的话“It’s a real issue, and it’s been getting significantly worse over the last 5-6 years. You can get so hooked that it takes you away from your real relationships and you will even feel depressed.(这是一个真正的难题,在过去的5-6年里,情况变得越来越严重。你可能会被它深深吸引,让你远离真实的人际关系,甚至会感到沮丧)”可知,前面说觉得难过不开心还好,但是下文说甚至会抑郁沮丧。由此可知,B. But depression is a more serious condition.(但抑郁症是一种更严重的疾病)符合语境,下文中的主语It呼应B项中的depression。故选B项。
根据下文“Well, I suppose we all want to be liked and we don’t want to miss out on a conversation that’s taking place online. ( 嗯,我想我们都想被喜欢,我们不想错过网上的谈话)”可知,这应该是在解释为什么我们总是翻看社交媒体。由此可知,F. Despite these warning signs, why do some of us continue to keep clicking?(尽管有这些警告信号,为什么我们中的一些人持续点击呢?)
1.由上文“At first glance, it seems to be Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece Girl with a Pearl Earring. (乍一看,这似乎是荷兰画家约翰内斯·维米尔的杰作《戴珍珠耳环的少女》)”可知,这里描述这幅画乍一看像名画,而C项But look more closely and you may find something different about it.(但仔细观察,你可能会发现一些不同之处。)
2.由下文“Chosen from 3,482 submitted images based on the Vermeer masterpiece, the AI-generated work was displayed at the Mauritshuis Museum in the Netherlands in March. (这幅由AI创作的作品是根据维米尔的杰作从3482幅提交的图像中挑选出来的,于3月在荷兰的Maurithuis博物馆展出 )”可知,这里主要讲这幅画是用AI创造出来的。而F项It’s actually an image made by Berlin-based designer Julian van Dieken using artificial intelligence.(这实际上是柏林设计师Julian van Dieken利用人工智能制作的图像。)
3.由下文 “Though Mauritshuis press officer Boris de Munnick insisted that it was a nice picture and a creative process, many people questioned whether it could be called art and if it was qualified to be shown in the museum gallery. (尽管Mauritshuis新闻官Boris de Munnick坚称这是一幅很好的画,也是一个创作过程,但许多人质疑它是否可以被称为艺术,以及它是否有资格在博物馆画廊展出)”可知,此处主要讲人们对这幅画存在争议。而B项However, the AI image raised a fierce argument.(然而,人工智能图像引发了激烈的争论。)
4.由下文“It was regarded as a disrespect for the masterpiece of Vermeer and also for any working artist.(这被认为是对维米尔杰作的不尊重,也是对任何艺术家的不尊重)”可知,这里主要讲一些人不认可这幅画,而E项Dutch artist Iris Compiet described the image on display as almost Frankenstein-ish.(荷兰艺术家Iris Compiet将展出的画描述为几乎是弗兰肯斯坦式的(科学怪人样的))符合语境,其中 the image on display为后文it的指代内容,所以本句话有启下作用。故选E项。
5.由下文“But the technology has now become widely available for regular everyday use and the practice of using AI image generators to make art has become more common.(但这项技术现在已经广泛用于日常生活,使用人工智能图像生成器制作艺术的做法也变得越来越普遍)”可知,这里讲这项技术现在已经广泛用于日常生活,而G项The emergence of such AI works is believed by many to weaken the enthusiasm of artists with creative skills.(许多人认为,此类人工智能作品的出现削弱了具有创作技能的艺术家的热情。)

【答案】1.G 2.A 3.C 4.E 5.F
1.上文“And it’s important to get the right amount of activity. “Too much too soon either results in injury or burnout,” says Mary Yoke, PhD.(获得适量的活动很重要。玛丽·约克博士说:“急于求成要么导致受伤,要么导致过度疲劳。”)”指出了恢复锻炼时掌握适当强度的重要性以及急于求成的风险,G选项“The following strategies will help you return to exercise safely after a break.(以下策略将帮助你在中断后安全地恢复锻炼)”承接上文,引出下文将要介绍的具体恢复策略,起到承上启下的过渡作用,其中“safely”与上文中“injury or burnout”的风险形成呼应,上下文语意连贯。故选G项。
2.设空处为段首句;下文“Don’t try to go back to what you were doing before your break. If you were walking 3 miles a day, playing 18 holes of golf three times a week, or lifting 10-pound dumbbells for three sets of 10 reps, reduce activity to half a mile every other day. Increase time, distance, and intensity gradually.(不要试图回到休息前的运动量。如果你之前每天步行3英里,每周打3次18洞高尔夫球,或者举10磅重的哑铃做3组10次重复,那么请将活动量减少到每隔一天走半英里。然后逐渐增加时间、距离和强度)”给出了恢复锻炼的具体建议——从较低强度开始,逐步增加。A选项“Start Low, Go Slow.(从低强度开始,循序渐进)”准确概括了本段主旨,强调了起始阶段要降低标准、缓慢推进的核心原则,适合做段首主题句。故选A项。
3.下文“Go easier next time.(下次运动时放轻松些)”给出了针对特定情况的后续建议,C选项“Feeling wiped out after a session?(一次锻炼后感觉筋疲力尽?)”
4.上文“Consistency is the key to getting stronger and building endurance. Ten minutes of activity per day is a good start.(坚持是变得更强壮和建立耐力的关键。每天十分钟的活动是一个好的开始)”指出了坚持的重要性和每日少量运动的起步价值,E选项“It can lay a solid foundation for your future exercise plans.(它可以为你未来的锻炼计划打下坚实的基础)”承接上文,进一步说明每天十分钟活动的作用——为未来更高强度的锻炼奠定基础,其中“It”指代上文中“Ten minutes of activity per day”,上下文逻辑一致。故选E项。
5.上文“Even if you can’t yet do a favorite activity, you can practice the moves. With or without a club or racket, swing like you’re hitting the ball. Paddle like you’re in a boat.
【答案】1.F 2.G 3.E 4.A 5.B
1.根据前文“I caught sight of myself in a cafe window the other day, bent over my phone, with my head down and shoulders tense near my ears.(前几天,我在咖啡馆的窗户里看到自己低头盯着手机、肩膀紧绷,几乎贴到耳朵附近的样子。)” 以及后文“And I began to wonder how good it could feel to shake it off.(我开始想,摆脱这种状态会有多舒服。)” F“That’s when I realized how easily bad posture slips into our daily life.(就在那时,我意识到不良体态很容易不知不觉进入我们的日常生活。)”
2.根据前文“But over time, little things can become habits. And those little habits?(但久而久之,小事就会变成习惯。而那些小习惯呢?)” 以及后文“Poor posture does more than cause muscle aches.(不良体态带来的影响不止肌肉酸痛。)” G“They can have a lasting impact on our bodies in ways we might not realize.(它们会以我们察觉不到的方式,对身体产生持久的影响。)”
3.根据前文“When we bend forward, our chest becomes less open, which limits oxygen intake and often leads to shallow breathing.(当我们弯腰驼背时,胸腔无法完全舒展,会限制摄氧量,造成浅呼吸。)” E“Over time, this can make you feel tired, anxious or emotionally low.(久而久之,这会让人疲惫、焦虑或是情绪低落。)”
4.根据后文“Essentially, good posture means keeping your body in the right position whether you are standing, walking, or sitting.(本质上,良好体态就是无论站立、行走还是坐姿,都保持身体处于正确位置。)” A“So what does good posture actually look like?(那么,良好的体态究竟是什么样子的?)”
5.根据后文“Because little changes add up, experts recommend a few simple but effective ways to improve it.(因为微小的改变日积月累就能见效,专家推荐了一些简单有效的改善方法。)” B“Posture is a habit that affects almost everything you do.(体态是一种习惯,几乎影响你所做的一切。)”
1.上文提到“Your profile picture is often the first impression you make online(你的头像通常是你在网上给人的第一印象)”,此处需要进一步说明“网上”的具体场景。G 选项“whether for social media or professional platforms(无论是社交媒体还是专业平台)”通过whether... or...
2.根据第二段“The first step is to clean your face. For example, if you have straight hair, wash and give it a good brush; if your hair is thick, proper conditioning is key.(第一步是洗脸。
3.下文“and don’t stand too far from the camera. A shoulders-up shot with your head centered usually gives the best results. Next, consider the space around your face. You want some breathing room, but not too much distance. As for your expression, choose one that truly reflects your personality.(不要站得离相机太远。
4.下文“tension is easily visible in photos. Practice in the mirror to find your most natural look. Finally, since not everyone has a perfectly balanced face, take test photos from both sides.(在照片中很容易看到紧张感。对着镜子练习,找到自己最自然的样子。最后,因为不是每个人都有完美平衡的脸,所以从两边拍摄测试照片。)”指出“紧张在照片中很容易显现,练习找到自然的表情”,核心是“放松面部表情”。D选项“Remember to relax your face(记得放松你的脸部)”直接呼应后文tension is easily visible和natural look,强调放松对表情自然的重要性,是对该段“表情管理”的关键总结。故选D。
5.上文“Your choice of location matters significantly. Select a clean, minimalistic backdrop that enhances your appearance without overshadowing the image.(你选择的地点很重要。
