Rhiannon Menn is the founder of Lasagna Love,a global nonprofit that connects neighbors through
homemade meal delivery. In March 2020,her San Diego community shut down because of the pandemic.
She and her husband own a design and build company, but their projects were put on hold.Rhiannon telt
helpless and wondered what she could do to be useful. It didn't take her long to decide.
"Cooking is my happy place,"she says. She ordered groceries online and got to work. She and her
daughter,Cimorene, then three, made extra pans of lasagna, and Rhiannon posted in a local moms'group on
Facebook, offering to drop off a free home-cooked meal to anyone who wanted one. Some people requested
a meal.Even more wanted to help Rhiannon feed those who were struggling.
Rhiannon created a spreadsheet for each volunteer, matching them with families who'd requested a
meal.Word of what she was doing spread quickly on social media."By summer,we had more than 100
volunteer chefs,"she says.Too many for one person to track.Someone offered to create an online portal
to manage the volunteers and meal requests. This automated system freed Rhiannon to do what she
really loves:cook and reach people in need.
For Rhiannon, lasagna is the best comfort food. But it's about more than just food."Our volunteers
deliver a sense of hope with the meal,"she says."We want people to know that a stranger cared enough
about them to make them a meal.Kindness is contagious(传染性的),and it can transform communities.”
Lasagna Love currently has 25,000 volunteers-or Lasagna Chefs,as they're called-across the United
States,Canada and Australia, who have delivered more than 150,000 meals to families in their communities.
"This movement has given me purpose in a way I didn't have before,"Rhiannon says.
In her home, cooking is a family event.Cimorene, now five, has gotten good at layering the noodles.
Rhiannon also has a three-year-old son and an 11-month-old baby boy."I love that my kids are learning the
importance of helping others,"she says.
Volunteer chefs log into the portal and input how many meals they'd like to deliver that week. The
system matches them with nearby families requesting a meal, and the volunteer texts the family to set up a
delivery time. The meals are dropped off on daorsteps for contact-free delivery.
The organization is called Lasagna Love, but volunteers can deliver any home-cooked meal they'd like.
Rhiarnon's recipe is het own take on lasagna, made healthier with grated zucchini and yellow squash."I've
shared my recipe, but volunteers are welcome to use their own recipes for any dishes they'd like to make,"
she says.
39 Why did Rhiannon start Lasagna Love?
A To help struggling neighbors.
B.To fight against the pandemic.
C.To help their design and build company:D.To improve her neighbors'-cooking skills.
40.What can we know about the volunteers-in-Lasagna Love?
A.They are trained by experieneed chefs.
B.They deliver their own meals to people in need.
C.They search for families in need by themselyes.
D.They all follow Rhiannon's recipe to make lasagna.

One of the great things about pictures is that they make no demands on you.You can look as long as
you like and walk away at any time. There's a freedom in the arrangement that's different from going to the
movies, concerts or the theater.Occasionally, people always say they feel intimidated by art.On the one
hand,I get it.Some in the art world, wanting to establish their authority, fall back on abstractions to create a
zone of exclusion. It can be insufferable. But on the other hand, what field doesn't see a version of this
phenomenon?Have you tried understanding cellular biology?Contract law?In my experience, there is less
of this complex talk around art than around most other fields.
Art is a wide field. It's deep. It's diverse. You can come at the subject from countless angles.People
seem to have been making art since the beginning,so the subject is an inseparable part of the whole history
of humanity. So yes, things can get complicated. But,in the end,we're talking about pictures and sculptures.
How hard is it to look at a painting? How difficult is it to walk around a sculpture?Children get it
immediately. They know there's no right or wrong when it comes to looking at art. There are just things to
notice,to test against our imperfect sense of the truth, and to fold into our various conceptions of beauty.
Things we notice may cause feelings. They may lead to ideas. They might equally provide a release from
ideas-a release into wonder, and into new kinds of awareness connected to your body, your senses, and
your general state of existential confusion. What I notice will be different from what you notice. That's how
it goes with art.
More than the political or economic conditions of any given era,it is art that later generations most
want to rertlember. We reutember Picasso and Matisse with more love than General Francisco Franco or
Marshall Petain. And we remember the Beatles and Francis Bacon over the chief ministers of Britain in the
1960s.That's because the arts-and I define the term as broadly as possible-reveal the best of us.It's
because they combine the most intelligent and the most feeling of us.They testify, most fundamentally,to
the fact that we're alive, that people lived before us,that as a species we're capable of making the most
extraordinary things, and that human consciousness and the world beyond it are nothing short of astonishing.
Again and again, art expresses that astonishment-that mixture of wonder and disappointment,
knowing and unknowing, pleasure and pain, joy and fear.
42.What does the underlined word"intimidated"in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Misled.
B.Inspired.
C.Frightened.
D.Attracted.
43.What is the main idea of the first two paragraphs?
A.Art is complicated but easy.
B.Art is as complex as.other fields.
C.Art is insufferable due to its abstraction.
D.Art is an inseparable part of human history.
44.Why does the author mention several famous people in Paragraph 3?
A.To emphasize artists are more adorable.B.To illustrate the superior position of art.
C.To show art can spread in a broader area.D.To compare political and artistic figures.
高一英语试题(第6页,共8页)
According to the passage, the author may agree that
A.abstract concepts can block humans'insights
B.art is a combination of unsettled contradictions
C.humans should try to perfect their thoughts of beauty
D.the appeal of art lies in its reflection of the best of man
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Charisma
Are leaders born or made? Many leaders throughout history-such as Gandhi,Churchill, and Martin
Luther King-seem to have a special quality that made them powerful and persuasive. We can identify that
quality as charisma, but can we explain it?
Charisma means a natural ability to.attract other people and make them admire you.It is a complex
mixture of social and emotional skills.46Richard Wiseman,a famous psychologist, points out that
there are three key qualities of a charismatic person:They feel their owri emotions strongly;they inspire
strong emotions in other people;and they are unaffected by the inflences of other charismatic people.
You needn't worry if you don't have these qualities.47Niseman says that when
you come upon someone who is charismatic, you can copy htor ber body language and facial expressions
without realizing it.This is called mirroring, and it works partly because people's behavior influences their
emotions.48He proves his point by giving the example of smiling back at someone who smiled at
you.Your smiling ba:k suggests that you accept the goodwill from the other person and hope to give it back
to him.
49 For example,if you stand up straight and raise your chest, you are more likely to feel
confident and ir:spire others to feel confidence in you.Another expert says that the most charismatic people
are usually gooa listeners. They give others the impression of being tocused and modest.
Charisma plays a large part in success because it is linked to self-confidence.50One
successful leadership coach points out that you need to come by your skills and techniques naturally, she
warns-if the personality you project is not real, you may come across as insincere.
A.This type of physical presence can be used to great effect.
B.Today there is growing evidence that charisma can be learned.
C.Charismatic persons should be active and sensitive to their surroundir.gs.
D.it needs to be recognized that charisma is more than just being optimistic.
E.It helps to make strong personal connections and communicate effectively with others.
F.But it is worth noting that charisma can't be a pretended ability although it can be learned.
G.He adds you're unaware of picking up others'gestures, but you know it makes you feel guod.

Dear Jim,
Extremely thrilled to know that you are calling for activity plans with the theme of"Beat
Plastic Pollution",I feel it my privilege to offer mine, hoping to give you a hand.
First,it is a wise choice to propagandize the using of cloth bags instead of plastic bags in
school and call for students to spread the behavior to the people around them.Second, make a rule
that students should be prevented from using plastic bags, encouraging the use of degradable plastic
bags. Finally, collecting and recycling plastic bags are easy to be conducted in school.
I sincerely hope my plan is of benefit to you.
Yours,

best to do indoor activities at home.Local officials are warning of possible power cut throughout
the entire region. We at Channel 5 encourage everyone to keep a flashlight and spare batteries at
home in case there's no electricity. We also want to remind you to keep your mobile phones and
battery packs fully charged.Fortunately, this storm system should pass quickly, and you can look
forward to sunny skies starting Tuesday.

First aid training is important-and the earlier you learn it,the better. As a doctor,I know that not
only does first aid training help others, but it also improves young people's confidence and
willingness to act in time of a dangerous situation. You're never too young to start learning how to
save a life.In an emergency, every second counts.Lack of confidence is the main reason why adults
don't react.I hope this won't happen in the next generation. Our courses help children to learn first
aid in a safe environment.Life is changeable-we never know what's around the corner. At any
moment, someone could need our help. However, only a third of British adults say they would
attempt first aid. This may be why only 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital heart attack. In
countries where first aid is taught in schools,as many as 1 in 4 people survive.First aid is a skill a
child can build on.It can even encourage young people into health care jobs.
