What is peer pressure?
Peer pressure is the influence from those in your age group. They may push you to behave differently.

If someone truly cares about you, he won’t ask you to do something you don’t want to do. So choose your friends wisely.
1. When do children first start to experience peer pressure according to a study?
A. At 3 or 4 years old. B. In Grade 3 or Grade 4. C. In junior high school. D. In high school.

My father and I lived near a wood and he was a woodman (护林员). One day, he didn’t come home at the usual time. I decided to look for him in the wood.
The sun was setting, and there were fewer people on the road. I felt a sense of loneliness, but I’d already made up my mind and went on into the wood. The only sounds were the ones I made myself. I tried to keep still to see if I could hear anything. I listened but heard nothing.
Going deeper into the wood, I began to feel a bit nervous, but I didn’t care. I wanted my dad to come back home. It was getting darker, so I turned on the torch (手电筒). The light reached out ahead of me like a long white arm. That was much better. Now I could see where I was going.
“Dad!” I shouted. “Dad! It’s Danny! Where are you?” Each time I called, I would stop and listen. But no answer came. Instead, I heard some animals in the distance. My voice began to shake, but I didn’t want to give up.
“Where are you, Dad?” I shouted. “It’s Danny!”
I stood still, listening. In the silence that followed, I heard the sound of a human voice. I ran towards the sound. “Dad!” I shouted. “It’s Daddy! Are you there?” I stopped again and listened. This time the answer came just loud enough for me to hear the words. “I’m here!” the voice called out. “Over here!”
It was him!
4. Why did Danny go to the wood?
A. To play with animals. B. To search for his dad.
C. To cut down some trees. D. To watch the sun setting.
5. Which is the right order of the following?
①Danny heard some animals.
②Danny went into the wood.
③Danny turned on his torch.
④Danny ran towards the human voice.
A. ④②①③ B. ④①③② C. ②③①④ D. ②④③①
6. How might Danny feel when he heard his father’s voice?
A. Interested. B. Excited. C. Surprised. D. Worried.
7. What do we know about Danny?
A. He loved his father deeply. B. He was honest and sweet.
C. He wanted to be a woodman. D. He enjoyed walking in the wood.
B 5. C 6. B 7. A
根据第一段中“One day, he didn’t come home at the usual time. I decided to look for him in the wood.”
C
Everyone can remember special moments. Think of your childhood. You probably remember one or two things that were very special. This is the way the brain works. We take our minds off the usual things that happened, and remember the moments that were different. After a vacation, you will probably remember swimming at a beautiful beach. You will remember a terrible thing like losing your wallet, too. These things give you opposite feelings, but they are both unusual. We call this the “power of a moment”.
We can use this information in different ways. One way is in business. For example, the Magic Blue Hotel in London makes special moments a part of your stay. The hotel offers “ice-cream moments”. You pick up a pair of glasses left by a guest in the hotel, and someone brings you a free ice-cream. Other hotels may have better food, bigger swimming pools, or nicer rooms, but special moments like this make the Magic Blue Hotel more welcome.
Another area where special moments can be useful is in education. Teachers can offer special moments in class. Many students forget parts of their normal (正常的) lessons. A special moment like having a class outside can make lessons easier to remember. Why not create a special moment every month?
An especially good place to make special moments is at home with the family. Parents can plan a surprise, perhaps putting up a camp in the garden or leaving on a trip at night. Because children love surprises, they will always remember those moments.
We remember unusual things, so it’s a good idea to look for new and exciting ways to do things. We can create our own special moments at work, at school, and at home!
8. What does “take our minds off” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Leave. B. Throw. C. Forget. D. Keep.
9. Why is the Magic Blue Hotel more welcome?
A. It has larger swimming pools. B. It offers business chances to guests.
C. It provides bigger and cleaner rooms. D. It creates ice-cream moments for guests.
10. According to Paragraph 3, which of the following situations can be called “special moments”?
① Having an art lesson in the field.
② Having an art class in the classroom.
③ Joining a science fair on the playground.
④ Having a science class in the classroom.
A. ①③ B. ②③ C. ①④ D. ②④
11. What is the structure of the text?
A. B.
C. D.
C 9. D 10. A 11. D
第一段指出“take our minds off”的含义:“We take our minds off the usual things that happened, and remember the moments that were different.”,后半句指出人们记住不同寻常的时刻,由此推测该短语表示“不去想、忘记”平常事,结合选项,只有C选项Forget符合词义。
第二段“the Magic Blue Hotel in London makes special moments a part of your stay. The hotel offers ‘ice- cream moments’... Other hotels may have better food, bigger swimming pools, or nicer rooms, but special moments like this make the Magic Blue Hotel more welcome.”,文中明确说明Magic Blue酒店为客人提供“冰淇淋时刻”这一特殊体验,正是这类特殊时刻让该酒店更受欢迎。
D
Many people think that their mother makes the best food in the world. Do you think so? A new study suggests there might be some truth to it.
Of course, it’s hard to measure (判定) what the “best food in the world” is. But the study from the UK showed something interesting. The study found that people prefer the food from their loved ones.
Some people from all over the country took part in the study. They had their eyes covered and tasted two cakes. Both cakes used the same recipe. A cook made one, while someone they knew, such as their mother, made the other one.
The researchers checked the eaters’ heart rates (心率) and watched their expressions while they ate the cakes. The results were surprising. Every person chose the home-made cake as their favourite. The researchers also noted that the eaters’ hearts beat faster when they tried the home-made one. And they smiled more in the process.
The eaters also answered some questions about home cooking. More than 30% said their mothers’ food tasted best. And 90% agreed food from their loved ones tasted better. And it’s not just eating the food-40% also said baking (烘焙) with a loved one helped them feel closer to that person. And 67% expressed joy in using family recipes. “Cooking is not just about taste or skill. It is about the love and care you put into it. That is what people truly taste. And that is what makes home-made food so special,” said Charles Spence, one of the researchers.
12. What did people do in the study?
A. They answered questions about a cook.
B. They checked the heart rates of others.
C. They cooked cakes with their own recipes.
D. They tasted cakes without knowing the makers.
13. What can we infer from the study’s results?
A. Eaters only smiled at the sweeter cake.
B. Everyone preferred the home-made cake.
C. People didn’t trust food from strangers.
D. Heart rates weren’t a good measure of taste.
14. Which one can show the results in paragraph 5?
A. B.
C. D.
15. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To teach us how to cook better.
B. To introduce a new study about recipes.
C. To ask people to eat more home-made food.
D. To explain why loved ones’ food tastes better.
D 13. B 14. C 15. D
第3段“They had their eyes covered and tasted two cakes…A cook made one, while someone they knew, such as their mother, made the other one.”
第4段“Every person chose the home-made cake as their favourite.”
第5段“And it’s not just eating the food-40% also said baking with a loved one helped them feel closer to that person.”

It was him!

A. B.
C. D.
