Spring has its own kind of beauty—blooming flowers, sunny skies, light rain… They can find inspiration everywhere. From classical music to pop and jazz, here are our top picks for your spring playlist! ● Antonio Vivaldi, “The Four Seasons: Spring” Classical music rarely has lyrics because the music speaks for itself. The violin’s staccato notes sound like birds singing. You feel like you’re skipping across a green field. It gives you energy and makes you want to step outside. ● BTS, “Spring Day” This K-pop song carries a bittersweet feeling. It’s about missing somebody, but still believing better days will come. “I’ll come pick you up / After the cold winter ends / Until spring comes again.” The lyrics try to tell you: Cold seasons don’t last forever. You’ll meet again when spring returns! ● Ed Sheeran, “Spring” This pop song is light and peaceful. You feel like opening a window and taking a deep breath. The soft melody makes you slow down, enjoy little things in life, and get ready to start over. ● Ella Fitzgerald, “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” Sometimes, even if spring is already here, your heart still feels a little sad and lonely. This quiet jazz song reminds us that it’s okay to be honest with our feelings. Fitzgerald’s voice is gentle, like someone listening to you. Spring isn’t always about being cheerful. But music can help you let your feelings out. 1. Why have many musicians written songs about spring? A. Spring’s natural beauty gives them more ideas. B. Spring gives them better weather to write music. C. Spring is the most popular season for music festivals. D. Spring air makes instruments sound clearer and better. 2. Which song makes you feel like going out? A. “The Four Seasons: Spring” B. “Spring Day” C. “Spring” D. “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” 3. What is the author’s purpose in writing this article? A. To explain how musicians create spring songs. B. To discuss why spring is the best season to write songs. C. To show how songs express different feelings about spring. D. To teach readers how to write different types of spring songs. A 2. A 3. 【1题详解】 第一段提到“Spring has its own kind of beauty—blooming flowers, sunny skies, light rain… They can find inspiration everywhere.”,因此许多音乐家创作关于春天的歌曲是因为春天的自然美景给了他们更多灵感。 【2题详解】 介绍维瓦尔第《四季:春》的部分提到“It gives you energy and makes you want to step outside.”,因此这首歌让你想走出去。 B The mid-term test has just passed. And the final exam is already on its way. Still worried about your math? You may feel it is difficult and boring. Is it because you look at math in the wrong way? Teens talked with Li Xing, a math teacher at Ningxia University. We asked him if math can be beautiful and fun. Here’s what Li said. Many people today want to have beautiful looks. And there is math in beautiful human bodies. The length from your head to your belly button and the length from your belly button to your feet have a ratio (比率) that is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, and we can see it everywhere, like in nature, music, and drawings. In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. For example, Li Bai, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty created the line “The light boat has passed ten thousand mountains”. He used the large number “ten thousand” to show how fast he travelled and how joyful and free he was on his journey. Besides numbers, beauty can also be found in curves (曲线). Just like sine curves, they go in the two opposite directions and never stop. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the water moving slowly. While the tangent curve is like a waterfall (瀑布). It is just like the line “Falling down three thousand feet from high”. If you do a math problem and get that curve, you’ll feel excited and joyful. What’s more, formulas (公式) can also be beautiful. Take a look at Euler’s Formula: eiπ+1=0 The number “e” is an irrational number (无理数), whose digits (位数) go on and on without end. “π” is also such an irrational number. However, when these two numbers come together, they create a simple and amazing result! 4. What do we know about the “golden ratio”? A. It can help people to keep healthy and strong. B. It is widely seen in beautiful things around us. C. It shows the exact speed of Li Bai’s travelling. D. It is the most important number in Chinese poems. 5. Which picture shows the tangent curve? A. B. C. D. 6. Why does the author mention Euler’s Formula (eiπ+1=0) at the end of the passage? A. To show that great beauty lies in math formulas. B. To test if students know advanced math knowledge. C. To ask students to work out more difficult math problems. D. To explain how to use numbers to describe travelling feelings. 7. What is the best title for this passage? A. Difficult and Boring: This is How Math is Like B. Beauty in Maths: Interview with a Math Teacher C. Doing Math Problems: Feeling Excited and Fun D. Numbers in Poems: Story Between Li Bai and Math 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. 【4题详解】 第三段提到黄金比例0.618并指出“we can see it everywhere, like in nature, music, and drawings”,因此黄金比例广泛存在于我们周围美丽的事物中。 【5题详解】 第五段提到“tangent curve is like a waterfall”及“Falling down three thousand feet from high”,结合描述,正切曲线形似瀑布,C图符合这一特征。 C Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA心源性猝死) is a serious condition where the heart suddenly stops beating effectively. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and knowing what to do can save a life. What causes SCA? In most cases, it happens due to arrhythmia The heart’s electrical system goes out of control. Instead of beating regularly, the heart muscles start to shake rapidly and irregularly. As a result, the heart can’t send blood to the brain and other body parts. If the heart stops beating, the brain may suffer irreversible damage (不可逆的损伤) in just 4 to 6 minutes. That’s why the first 4 minutes are called the “golden minutes” for saving lives. What are the warning signs? SCA often comes without warning, but people may feel: chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness (头晕), unusual tiredness, or pain in the stomach, teeth, or left shoulder. If these signs appear after physical activity, take them seriously. What should you do if someone collapses? Follow these steps: 1. Call for help. Shout to nearby people and ask someone to call 120. 2. Start chest compressions (心肺按压). Place hands on the center of the chest. Push hard and fast, 5 to 6 centimeters deep, 100 to 120 times per minute. Do not stop until help arrives. 3. Use an AED (自动体外除颤仪) if possible. It is safe and will guide you. 4. Keep going. Continue chest compressions until medical staff take over. SCA is serious but preventable, especially for teenagers. Follow three key points: exercise regularly, eat healthily, and have regular check-ups. Take good care of your body, stay active, and live a healthy life to keep SCA far away. 8. What does the underlined word “collapses” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Has a fever and a sore throat. B. Feels very thirsty and tired. C. Has a stomachache and backache. D. Falls down and stops breathing. 9. Why are the first 4 minutes called the “golden minutes”? A. Because the heart will start beating again in four minutes. B. Because people can call 120 most quickly during the time. C. Because the brain may be in great danger if treatment is late. D. Because doctors need at least four minutes to help the patient. 10. Which of the following is the correct order of the steps to save a person who has SCA? ① Start chest compressions. ② Call for help and ask someone to call 120. ③ Use an AED if possible. ④ Keep going until doctors take over. A. ②①③④ B. ②①④③ C. ②③①④ D. ②③④① 11. What is the author’s main purpose of writing this passage? A. To teach readers how to do difficult medical experiments. B. To explain the structure of the human heart and how it works. C. To introduce the latest medical technology for treating heart diseases. D. To remind readers of SCA dangers and encourage healthy living. D 9. C 10. A 11. Call for help... 2. Start chest compressions... 3. Use an AED if possible... 4. Keep going...”,其中“collapses”出现在该段开头,根据后文描述的应对措施,如“开始心肺按压”“使用自动体外除颤仪”等,可以推断“collapses”指的是“倒下并停止呼吸”。因此,选项D正确。 【9题详解】 第二段提到:“If the heart stops beating, the brain may suffer irreversible damage (不可逆的损伤) in just 4 to 6 minutes. That’s why the first 4 minutes are called the ‘golden minutes’ for saving lives.”,说明如果心脏停止跳动,大脑可能在4到6分钟内遭受不可逆的损伤,因此前4分钟被称为“黄金分钟”。 Call for help. Shout to nearby people and ask someone to call 120. 2. Start chest compressions (心肺按压). 3. Use an AED (自动体外除颤仪) if possible. 4. Keep going. Continue chest compressions until medical staff take over.”,说明正确的顺序是:呼救并让人拨打120;开始心肺按压;如果可能,使用自动体外除颤仪;继续按压直到医护人员接手。 【11题详解】 最后一段提到:“SCA is serious but preventable, especially for teenagers. Follow three key points: exercise regularly, eat healthily, and have regular check-ups. Take good care of your body, stay active, and live a healthy life to keep SCA far away.”,说明作者的主要目的是提醒读者注意SCA的危险并鼓励健康生活。 D Do you like blueberries? If so, the next time you’re about to eat your delicious berries, take a good look at them. Then ask yourself: Are blueberries really blue? For the most part, blueberries aren’t blue. If you carefully take off the skin of one blueberry, you’ll see that the flesh inside is white. And if you gently rub (摩擦) the outside of a blueberry, the blue color disappears and the berry looks almost black. But the moment you pick one, it does look blue. What’s going on? Well, there are two ways to create colors. The first is through pigments (色素). Pigments show the color of the light they don’t take in. The most common pigment in plants is chlorophyll (叶绿素), a green pigment. Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn’t take in green light. They send it out instead while taking in blue and red light. Plants prefer to take in blue light because it has more energy than any other light. In fact, there aren’t any “true blue” pigments in the plant world. The second way to make color is through “structural color”. This happens when the structure of a surface makes some colors of light look different. Have you ever seen how rainbows appear on a CD? These colors show up because of the tiny spaces between the disk’s thin layers (层). These spaces only allow certain colors to reach our eyes. Blueberries also create “structural color” in their own way. The berries look black when they’re ripe, but the plants build a thin layer of wax (蜡) on their outside. This layer gives the berries their blue look. The blue color benefits the plants because birds are attracted to the rare color. They eat the berries and spread the seeds far and wide. Now your bowl of blueberries suddenly looks a lot more interesting. The fruit is beautiful, with its nice color coming from the skin and its delicious taste from the flesh. 12. According to the passage, why are plants green? A. Because green light is the most common in nature. B. Because they prefer green light as their energy source. C. Because there is a special green structure on their leaves. D. Because chlorophyll reflects green light and absorbs other colors. 13. How do blueberries get their blue appearance? A. From a special pigment in their wax layer. B. From the reddish-purple juice inside the fruit. C. From a thin wax layer that causes structural color. D. From the reflection of the blue sky on their surface. 14. What is the main topic of the passage? A. The different ways plants create color. B. The scientific reason behind blueberries’ color. C. The importance of structural color in nature. D. The difference between pigment and structural color. 15. Which best describes the structure of the passage? (Paragraph 1 = ①; Paragraph 2 = ②; Paragraph 3 = ③ …) A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①②/③④/⑤ C. ①/②/③④⑤ D. ①②③/④/⑤ 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. B 15. 【12题详解】 第三段提到:“Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn’t take in green light. They send it out instead while taking in blue and red light.”,说明植物叶子呈现绿色是因为叶绿素不吸收绿光,而是反射绿光,同时吸收蓝光和红光,也就是叶绿素反射绿光并吸收其他颜色。 【13题详解】 第四段提到:“Blueberries also create “structural color” in their own way. The berries look black when they’re ripe, but the plants build a thin layer of wax (蜡) on their outside. This layer gives the berries their blue look.”,说明蓝莓通过一层蜡产生结构色从而呈现蓝色外观。 The bicycle, a two-wheeled machine powered by the rider, has a long and interesting history. ____16____ The first bicycle was invented by Karl von Drais, a German. In 1817, he designed and made a simple two-wheeled machine with no pedals (脚踏板). Riders pushed it forward with their feet on the ground. ____17____ They were heavy, with iron frames and wooden wheels. People called them “boneshakers” as the rides were really bumpy (颠簸的) — even small stones on the road could make the rider shake. Later in the 1870s, a new design with a big front wheel and a small back wheel became popular. It could go faster, but it was unsafe. ____18____ They were injured because of the dangerous structure. Then, in the 1880s, John Kemp Starley had an invention: the wonderful “safety bike”. It had two wheels of the same size, a chain to move the back wheel, and a lower seat. ____19____ After that, air-filled tires were added, making rides much smoother. Over time, bikes got lighter and better. They became a common way to travel, used for work, fun, and sports. Today, bikes are still popular all over the world. They are simple, efficient, and good for the environment. ____20____ A. This improvement made it much easier and safer to ride. B. It all started with a simple idea: making travel faster for people. C. Riders often fell forward, especially when hitting a rock or stopping suddenly. D. In the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel by some inventors in France. 36. B The mid-term test has just passed. Numbers in Poems: Story Between Li Bai and Math C Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA心源性猝死) is a serious condition where the heart suddenly stops beating effectively. D Do you like blueberries? C.
