Dear Penny,
I’m so excited to hear you’re coming to study in China! Welcome to my country.
To help you adapt quickly, here are a few tips for you. First, try speaking simple Chinese as much as possible. People here are helpful and will be happy to help you. Joining in various school activities to make more friends is also a good choice. Lastly, don’t be afraid to try local food and try to visit nearby places of interest on weekends, which can make you feel at home.
If you have any other questions, let me know. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文
I really wanted those sneakers, yet I knew Mrs. Thompson was in a tough spot. Alex kept looking at me with begging eyes. I felt so torn, my mind full of a mix of guilt and longing. The picture of the cool sneakers kept appearing in my head, but so did Mrs. Thompson’s sad expression. After what seemed like a really long time of struggling inside myself, I took a deep breath and nodded at Alex. We quickly figured out how much money we could give without using up all our savings.
With hearts beating fast, we walked up to Mrs. Thompson with some savings. When we held out the money to her, her eyes opened wide in shock. We told her it was the least we could do and we hoped she could soon go through the hard time. Her thankfulness was really strong, and she gave us both a big hug. In that moment, I realized that the happiness of helping her was much greater than the short-lived excitement of getting those sneakers. The experience taught me that real value isn’t in things we own but in the relationships we make and the kindness we show.

(Text 1)
W: Well, how about going swimming this afternoon?
M: There is a football match on TV. Let’s just stay at home and watch it.
(Text 2)
W: Jack, how did you get here so soon? You said your motorbike broke down, didn’t you?
M: Yeah. I was going to take a bus, but my neighbor offered me a car ride.
(Text 3)
W: How about your history exam?
M: Not well. I just got B plus. I missed some key points and didn’t manage my time well. What about you?
(Text 4)
M: Susie, I’m taking an online class, but I can’t hear the teacher very well. The music is too loud.
W: Sorry. I will turn it off and help Mom wash the dishes.
(Text 5)
M: When does the speech begin?
W: It starts at three in the afternoon.
M: It finishes at four, right? I have a meeting then.
W: No, the speech lasts for two hours.
(Text 6)
W: Hi, Steve. What’s your plan for tonight?
M: I don’t have any plans. Are you doing anything special, Jane?
W: Well, if you’re bored, let’s go dancing tonight.
M: That sounds like a good idea. Should we invite Bob?
W: Oh, he doesn’t drink, dance, sing, or really anything. The only thing he talks about is history.
M: You do have a point. We’ll leave him out tonight.
W: Alright. Let’s meet at 8:30 in front of the university bookstore.
M: Perfect. I’ll see you later tonight.
(Text 7)
W: Oh, no. Mike, my computer suddenly stops working. Can you help me now? I need it to finish the work from our teacher at once.
M: Of course. Is the screen blue or the software not working?
W: Neither. The computer screen went black. I just bought it.
M: Well, let me restart it. Oh, the light is on. You only need to wait a moment. When the screen lights up, you can turn on the computer. Besides, you need to clean it once a week.
W: Oh, thank you so much.
(Text 8)
M: Hi, Jenny. What are you doing here?
W: I’m usually here at weekends. It’s my dad’s shop. So you’re looking for a bike?
M: Yeah. Now that the weather is warming up, I thought I should get some exercise instead of taking the bus all the time.
W: Well, you came to the right place. What would you like?
M: Well, I don’t want a racer or a touring bike. Mostly I’ll just be using it to get me back and forth from work.
W: How far is that?
M: About four miles. But at first maybe I should tell you I only got 150 dollars. Can I get anything good for that?
W: Well, you won’t get anything top of the line. But we have some good and cheap ones.
M: That sounds good.
W: You’re right. For the kind of ride you’re going to take, the most important thing is comfort. You want to make sure it’s the right height for you. Follow me and I’ll show you what we’ve got.
(Text 9)
M: Emily, what’s your plan for the school summer vacation?
W: My grandparents really miss me. They want me to spend one or two weeks with them in the country this summer. So I’ll go to visit them first. After I return, I think I’ll do some volunteer work.
M: Will you consider volunteering for a program in Kathmandu, Nepal?
W: No, I can’t afford a trip abroad. What about you?
M: That’s my plan for this summer.
W: What will you do in this program?
M: Well, it aims to provide quality education to some of Nepal’s children. Volunteers will work alongside local teachers to help with subjects such as English, maths, science, history, and geography.
W: So what subjects are you most interested in teaching?
M: Geography.
W: When will you begin to work there?
M: On July 10th. And I’ll volunteer for two whole weeks there. After that, I’ll do some traveling around the country.
W: Well, I wish you a great time there!

Language is the bridge that connects people everywhere. On April 20th, people around the world celebrated the United Nations Chinese Language Day. To celebrate the event, the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland, organized the first Chinese Language Video Festival. Participants from 27 countries, including the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, shared their love for the Chinese language and culture through short videos. Over 340 videos told stories about a civilized, modern and youthful China through their personal experiences in the country. Though some people find the language difficult to learn, most find it to be useful. Yousaf from Pakistan said, “Learning Chinese is not just learning a language. If you know this language, you know the civilization, and the mind of the people.” Yerdana, a former international student from Kazakhstan, found that it was important to use his imagination when learning Chinese. “For example, the Chinese character for ‘tea’ has those lines of grass, the roof of a house and people drinking tea.”

Before coming to La Salle High School, Amelia Amand attended St. Agatha School in Portland, Oregon. “I decided to come to La Salle as a senior one student because the school has a good volleyball program I really love,” she said.
Volleyball is a big part of Amand’s life. She has been playing volleyball since the third grade. Amand now plays for La Salle’s school volleyball team. “I enjoy it because it’s a good way to reduce worry,” she said.
Volleyball takes up a lot of Amand’s free time outside of the classroom, and balancing schoolwork with sports can be a challenge. “It can be arduous. You’ve just got to keep concentrated,” she said.
In the future, Amand has a big goal. “I’d love to go into the medical field,” she said, explaining that this is something she has always wanted to do.
Here at La Salle, Amand wishes to be proud of her work. Two of her favorite classes are Honors English Ⅱ and Honors Chemistry. They are taught by Mr. Greg Larson and Mr. Matthew Owen. Amand explained that this was mainly because she can receive excellent instructions in the classes. However, she said that Honors Chemistry is one of her most difficult courses this year.
Outside of school, Amand enjoys hanging out with her friends and talking to them. She also likes spending time with her family. “They’re really supportive of everything, which is great,” Amand said. One of her favorite places to visit with them is Michigan. “I love traveling to Michigan because my family lives there, so it’s really nice to see everyone,” she said. Copenhagen is a beautiful city of Denmark that attracts a lot of tourists, especially during the summer. Though tourism is great for the economy, it is also bad for the environment. Now tourists who take part in green activities like picking up rubbish, using public transport, or biking around the city are rewarded with food and activities. This project is called CopenPay, whose purpose is to help reduce the environmental costs of tourism.
The project was introduced by Copenhagen’s official tourism organization to get tourists to act in an eco-friendlier way according to the Wonderful Copenhagen website. Though it is trust-based, some places may ask you to show a photo of you doing a green activity or a train ticket.
Though the largest environmental cost is the transportation to Copenhagen, especially if you fly or drive, the tourist board’s communications chief (旅游局通信主管) Rikke Holm Petersen said, “One of the things we can change is getting people to act in an eco-friendlier way at the destination.”
There are now 24 members in the program, reported Forbes, including museums, restaurants, and urban experiences for tourists to take part in. While there are several places offering free ice cream or coffee for taking public transport, there are other experiences that are related to Danish culture. Visitors to the National Gallery who bring plastic waste can take part in a workshop to turn the rubbish into a piece of art.
Tourists can help care for the gardens at the Blixen Museum for free admission. There are free tours at the Cisternerne underground art hall if you walk or bike to the place. You can also get a free lunch for volunteering at an urban farm.
While none of these activities will make a huge influence on the environment, it’ll change people’s thoughts and that may be the most important thing tourists can bring home from their vacation.
28. How can you get free food as a visitor to Copenhagen?
A. By sharing a car. B. By helping old people.
C. By taking a bus to travel. D. By taking care of wild animals.
29. What does the author want to show by mentioning Rikke Holm Petersen?
A. The reason for the project. B. The success in the project.
C. The difficulty of the project. D. The guess at the project.
30. What do we know about eco-friendly actions in Copenhagen?
A. They are praised on websites. B. They get rewarded in different ways.
C. They take place mostly in museums. D. They want to show Danish culture.
31. What is the importance of CopenPay according to the text?
A. Changing the local environment greatly.
B. Making tourists think highly of Copenhagen.
C. Helping get more money from local tourism.
D. Developing people’s environmental understanding.

AI models lack human senses like smell and touch, limiting their understanding of concepts such as flowers or humor. While advanced models show impressive language skills, their understanding nevertheless differs fundamentally from humans due to missing sensory experiences.
Researchers at the Ohio State University compared humans and AI models in understanding nearly 4,500 words. Both groups rated each word for a variety of aspects, such as the level of emotional arousal (唤醒) they bring to mind, or their links to senses and physical interaction with different parts of the body. It turns out that people and AI have a similar conceptual map of words that don’t relate to interactions with the outside world, but differ greatly when words are linked to senses and physical actions.
The problem lies in AI models’ text-only training. Models trained on both images and text showed closer consistency with human responses. As researchers note, “Multi-modal training brings greater benefits than expected.” This suggests future AI models may need a robot body to gain such experience.
Philip Feldman at the University of Maryland says that giving AI models a robot body and exposing them to sensorimotor (感觉运动的) input would probably result in a jump in ability, but that we will have to be very careful about how this is done, given the risk of robots causing physical harm to people around them.
Avoiding such risks would mean adding limits to robot actions, or only using soft robots that can cause no harm for training, says Feldman — but that would have its own downsides.
“This is going to mess up their view of the world,” says Feldman. “One of the things they would learn is that you can bounce off (弹开) things, because they have little mass. Put such deep understanding that has to do with physical contact in a real robot with mass and you would have robots believing that they could just crash into each other at full speed.”
32. What does the first paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Sensory gaps limit AI models’ understanding.
B. Sensory training expands AI models’ capabilities.
C. AI models fail to understand complex human ideas.
D. AI models are better than humans at language skills.
33. How did researchers compare humans and AI models in the study?
A. By assessing their vocabulary.
B. By comparing their writing styles.
C. By testing their performance in a game.
D. By contrasting their interpretation of words.
34. What can be inferred about equipping AI models with a robot body?
A. It decreases their potential risks.
B. It improves their ability to innovate.
C. It boosts their learning competence.
D. It increases their chances of self-recovery.
35. What is Feldman mainly worried about regarding robots?
A. They may not move fast enough. B. They might misjudge their strength.
C. They will lack basic emotions. D. They could fail to follow orders.

Research has shown that mindful eating has positive impacts on people, so it’s beneficial to know how to eat more mindfully. 36
Remove all distractions (分散注意力的事) while you eat. They can limit your ability to enjoy your food and notice when you are full. Make sure your cell phone is face down and you’re not going to be responding to any messages that come through.
Take enough time to finish your meal. Even with all distractions removed, very often you still find yourself eating faster than you should. 37 It takes about that time for your body to get the signal to the brain that you are full.
Notice all the little details about your food. You might wonder how to spend 20 whole minutes eating a sandwich. One way to slow down is to engage your senses and think through all the details about your meal. Ask yourself: What’s on my plate? How hungry am I today? Is it too salty? 38
39 Put a small amount of snack food, like potato chips, in a separate bowl to help avoid mindless munching. If you have a whole bag of it, it is challenging to stop after several bites. Putting aside some of the food can help you eat less at a healthier pace.
Actually chew. If you’re wolfing down (狼吞虎咽) your food you’re probably not chewing it. And chewing is an important part of digestion. 40 Look at each bite before putting it into your mouth, acknowledge what you’re eating and chew, chew, chew.
A. Limit your time for a meal within 20 minutes.
B. Here are some techniques for eating at a healthy pace.
C. It helps break up the foods so it’s easier for digestion.
D. Watch out for your food intake and the time you spend on it.
E. When you sit down to eat, spend at least 20 minutes doing so.
F. Limit the amount of the food you might munch on (大口吃) mindlessly.
G. Notice the smell, the taste and whatever other senses that arise as you eat.

Originally from Wales in the United Kingdom, Hiley 56 (live) in Norway for more than four decades. As the founder of the Norwegian Taiji Center in Oslo, she is widely recognized as a pioneer of tai chi in the country. But for Hiley, tai chi is far more than a martial art or an 57 (elegance) form of physical exercise — it is a path 58 understanding oneself and connecting with the wider world.
Hiley first encountered tai chi with 59 (anticipate) at the age of 20, when she learned human movement and art at university. Her academic curiosity about movement, 60 (combine) with an artistic fascination with the color black, ultimately led her to tai chi. Later, while 61 (study) for a postgraduate’s degree in London, she found a tai chi teacher. The practice struck a deep impression within her. It motivated her 62 (open) her own tai chi school in London after a period of systematic study. Later, following a personal invitation, Hiley moved to Norway, 63 she established a new tai chi school.
Hiley’s approach to tai chi is gentle, especially with 64 (beginner). She introduces philosophical ideas through movement, showing students how to feel the concepts in their bodies. But her teaching goes far beyond posture. She asks her students as she recognizes that people come to tai chi seeking solutions to 65 wide range of difficulties — physical, emotional or psychological.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Yesterday, my friend Alex and I noticed our next-door neighbor, Mrs. Thompson, looking unusually stressed as she walked in and out of her house. Her car was parked messily in the driveway, and she seemed to be in a hurry.
We decided to ask if she needed any help. As we walked over, she was struggling to carry a large box. I offered to take it from her, and she gratefully handed it to me. She explained that she was moving some of her late (已故的) husband’s things to a storage unit. Her voice trembled as she mentioned her husband, and I could see the pain in her eyes.
Over the next few hours, Alex and I helped her load more boxes into her car. We listened as she shared stories full of love about her husband and the life they had together. It was clear that this was a very emotional time for her. Mrs. Thompson thanked us for the timely help, and for a moment, her face seemed to relax a bit.
However, later in the day, things took a turn. As we were about to leave, we overheard Mrs. Thompson on the phone. She was arguing with someone about money. It seemed that there were some unexpected bills related to the storage unit, and she was worried about how she would pay them.
