【原文】M: Excuse me. Have you got any books on computer science? I’ve looked for them everywhere, but I can’t find any.

W: What about money? People pay thousands of dollars for your art.
M: I hope that’s because it brings them happiness.
W: Today, on your 70th birthday, we celebrate your work as an artist. What inspires you?
M: People who love me and my works inspire me.
W: You were ill last year. Did that have an effect on your work?
M: The doctors made me stop working for a while! I recovered well and took up my brush again, although it did slow me down.
W: Any advice that you want to pass on to the young artists?
M: Yes. My art teacher told me a very simple thing: to notice everything. She gave me good advice — even now I still listen to it.
W: Pay attention to the details?
M: Yes, exactly right.

【原文】Good evening to you all. As we all know, education is very important. If our children pay attention and learn as much as they can, it can set them on the road to a good career and a happy life. But as well as learning subjects at school, it is also important for them to learn right ways to obey in life. All of us should have basic rules of behavior, including truthfulness, honesty, charity, love, and kindness. Education is not aimed at getting only a degree. Successful moral education can make a good student perfect. Perhaps most moral education can be learned at home, rather than in school or college, because our children spend most of their time at home. Moral education can often be learned best by actions rather than words. Sometimes we adults forget this golden rule and advise young people to act well, while not always doing so ourselves. Children are good observers, so it is the duty of you as parents to set a good example to the younger generation.

Decades ago,my friend Caetlin received an unusual assignment from the poet Robert L.
Hass, who was then her undergraduate literature professor. He instructed each student to
memorize three poems from The Norton Anthology ofAmerican Literature not for any urgent
academic reason but to prepare them for their unavoidable future solitude, claiming that
you're going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have.
The act of memorizing a poem seemed curiously old-fashioned in an era when few of us
encounter poetry at all.I mostly devoted myself to prose ()It was only in my 40s that I
began to change my ways.It happened on a flight to Seattle. For hours,I read nothing else
but a poem, sometimes going through, sometimes repeating over and over.At the end of my
flight,I had all 40 lines in my head.Memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime. The
boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has.But as you keep trying, the lines finally
come together again, and the scattered text transforms back into a treasure, often a more
valuable one than it was before.
In other words, poetry perpetuates itself by becoming a part of those who read it.It can
do so only because it is so specific,so entirely different, that taking it in expands our own
sense of what we are.
Some of the poems I've memorized are already fading, and that's fine.I know if I spend
a little time with them, they'll sing in me again.Others keep thumping (in me like a
new pulse.I won't promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will
make you more:more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might
yet become.
24.What did professor Robert assign his students to do?
A Appreciate literature works.
B.Recite poems for potential loneliness.
C.Write poems to avoid future solitude.
D.Memorize poems for academic reasons.
25.Why does the author say memorizing a poem begins as a crime?
A.Repetition makes poems boring.
B.It's a way to kill time on the plane.
C.The author preferred prose to poetry.
D.People hardly encountered poetry then.

26.What does the underlined word perpetuates in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Make something famous.
B.Keep something special.
C.Keep something alive.
D.Make something beautiful.
27.How does the author understand memorizing poetry?
A.It makes our life better.
B.It expands our life properly.
C.It enriches our memory definitely.
D.It leads to the pursuit of dreams.

Aerobic exercises often get praised for their role in preventing illnesses like high blood
pressure,heart disease,and Type 2 diabetes-not to mention their mental health benefits.But
there's a common mistake:the more intense the exercise,the better the benefits.A recent
research shows that low-to-moderate intensity(低到中等强度)exercise,such as Zone2
training, maybe just as-or even more effective-for improving health and endurance
力)
Exercise intensity is often broken down into five separate heart rate zones, each
representing a different percentage of your maximum heart rate.Zone 2,which falls between
60 to 70 percent of a person's maximum heart rate,is "your all-day pace".Theoretically,it's
at such a low intensity that you can keep going and going.
This kind of exercise offers a unique advantage:it's just below the lactate threshold
酸阈值)the point where lactate-一an essential energy source-一builds up in the blood fasten
than it can be removed. As exercise intensity increases beyond Zone 2,the body's energy
demands shift to favor a lactate-producing system over a lactate-consuming one.At these
higher intensities, carbohydrate use increases as a rapid fuel source while fat burning slows
down.
Zone 2 exercises can provide a competitive advantage for endurance athletes,as fat is
more readily available as an energy source than sugars."If you are able to use fat as an
energy source when you are exercising, you are going to reduce your reliance on sugar
stores,"says Holmer,an exercise scientist. It also improves endurance by increasing the
body's ability to use a more efficient way for longer periods of exercise.
For people just starting a fitness routine,Zone 2 training has some additional benefits,
高英语第3
the major one being that it is sustainable.Zone 2 training can be done at a moderate pace,
leaving a person feeling better the next day and ready to go again. In contrast,over-reliance
on high-intensity training can lead to quicker burnout and longer recovery times."Exercise
doesn't have to hurt,"Holmer says.
28.How can we describe"your all-day pace"in paragraph 2?
A.Difficult.
B.Sustainable.
C.Unchanged.
D.Unrealistic.
29.Whicb of the following happens when Zone 2 training is done?
A The burning of fat slows down.
B.The use of carbohydrate is enhanced.
C.The lactate-producing system is favored.
D.Lactate is removed faster than it is built up.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.How Zone 2 training benefits endurance.
B.Whether Zone 2 training is good to athletes.
C.What is used as energy sources for Zone 2 exercises.
D Why a more efficient way is used for Zone 2 exercises.
31.What does Holmer suggest starters do by saying"Exercise doesn't have to hurt"?
A.Do less exercise to avoid injury.
B.Do training at a moderate pace.
C.Stop doing high-intensity training.
D.Stop doing too much Zone 2 training.

Some foods are highly processed or ultra-processed.Ultra-processed foods (UPF)have
become increasingly popular and range from chips to microwave meals and even bread.
Even just a casual glance at supermarket shelves reveals a collection of UPF offerings in
delicate and attractive packaging.Besides their affordability,UPF offer not only time-saving
convenience, but also momentary satisfaction filled with fat, sugar, salt and additives. After
all,who can resist enjoying a tasty snack when lost in a football game or an exciting new TV
series?
,3页,共6页
Although much is discussed about the direct negative impact of these products on ou
health.including obesity, heart diseases and diabetes, little has been said about the impacts of
UPF on the environment. The most serious environmental impacts of UPF-rich diets mainly
come from the post-farm stages, especially from the final product creation and packaging
processes.
One specific additive that has the most environmental impact is palm oil.Palm oil is
responsible for deforestation of some of the world's big forests, which have diverse animals
and plants. It is one of the world's most consumed vegetable oils that can be found in half of
our food. The massive waste generated by over-packaged UPF is another factor to consider.
Their plastic packaging doesn't degrade in landfills or in nature and has a dramatic impact on
soil health and life in the sea.One recent study published in Nature Sustainability
demonstrates that UPF processing and packaging stages have the greatest environmental
impacts of the whole system and are a major source of environmental waste worldwide.
The environmental impact of ultra-processed foods cannot be ignored any longer. While
producers must take action,it is our growing awareness of what we buy and how it is
produced that could drive change as well.By choosing wisely-whether by rejecting heavily
processed options or supporting sustainable brands-we exercise the power to shape a better
food system,a responsibility we must embrace.
32.What can be learned about UPF from the first paragraph?
A.They are filled with various kinds of healthy added nutrients.
B.They are primarily consumed during casual leisure activities.
C.They are carefully produced to be environmentally friendly.
D.They are favored by many for their fancy packages and flavors.
33.Why is palm oil introduced in the text?
A.To compare it with some other vegetable oils.
B.To explain UPF's harmful environmental effects
C.To show its relationship with animals and plants
D.To discuss factors of UPF's packaging-related pollution.
34.What does the author think of the role we play in fighting UPF?
A.Insignificant.
B.Decisive
C.Replaceable.
D.Essential.

35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.From Shelf to Soil:the Hidden Journey-of UPF
B Convenience at a Cost:the Health Damage of UPF
C.Beyond the Shelf:UPF Are Harming the Planet
D.Fast and Cheap:UPF Take Over Our Daily Diets

Some people prefer to have a bite to eat before hitting the gym, known as a fed workout.
Others would like to wait until after exercising to refuel their bodies, called a fasted workout.
36 Many experts say there's no easy answer because it depends on the person.
If you want energy and strength for an ideal workout, you need fuel.A fed workout will
provide your body with power.Eating before exercise may help you sustain longer sessions
and lift heavier weights.3 Muscle preservation is also an essential component of
strengthening your body.Nitrogen()is critical for processing protein that builds healthy
muscles.People tend to lose less nitrogen during a fed workout than a fasted one.
Many fitness enthusiasts are not on board with this idea. They report feeling sick and
inactive while trying to exercise after eating. With a fasted workout, you may not get the usual
indigestion.Experts for fasted workouts further claim that eating afterwards makes your body
use its fat reserves for energy, meaning you will burn more fat.38 it can cause a sudden
drop in your blood glucose (levels, and you may feel dizzy. You may even be more
likely to overeat.
39 Not all foods are created equal. For example,if you choose a fed workout, you'll
probably lose a lot of water during intense training,so you should consider drinking some
beforehand. With a fasted workout,it would help if you had some nutrition right after your
session is complete.Drink some water. Then, have a light meal or nutritional snack.
Deciding when to eat for an ideal workout is a personal choice. Both fasted workouts and
fed activities have their benefits and shortcomings.40

A.However,a fasted workout might not work for you.
B.How your body will respond is based on your workout intensity
C.To eat or not to eat.that is the question on many fitness enthusiasts'minds

E.Knowing what to eat for an ideal workout is just as important as knowing when to eat
F.Think in a thorough way and discuss with your fitness instructor before making a choice.

Last summer,Tom and his parents spent a weck at a remote cabin by Willow Lake,

One aftemoon,as Tom walked along the shore,he suddenly stopped, noticing a group
of wild birds flying restlessly above the water, their unusual chirps (echoing through
the air.Concemned for their safety,he followed their direction, his curiosity guiding him
toward something wrong.
As Tom drew near,he froze in shock. The shore was littered with plastic bottles, dented
cans, and various kinds of discarded waste.Right in the middle of the mess,a young wild
duck was struggling weakly, its nght wing tangled tight in old fishing nets, too frightened to
move. With each shake, the net tightened around its body, leaving painful marks on its skin.
What's worse, the water level was rising little by little with the approaching sunset, and the
duck's body was half soaked ()Its small body trembled, and every weak flap of its
wing was a silent cry for help.
A sense of urgency filled Tom,pushing him forward with determination and resolve.
Realizing that time was tight,he knew he had to act instantly to free this innocent creature
before it gave in to exhaustion or the danger of the rising water.Determined to help,he
nodded and tried to untangle the net with his bare hands but failed, for the net was twisted
too tightly and there was a sharp plastic edge hidden in it-any careless move would hurt the
duck badly.
