高三英语
第一部分 听力
Text 1
W: Lots of legroom, I like that. The seat’s almost as comfortable as my chair at home.
M: Yeah. I guess you’ll be falling asleep as soon as we take off.
Text 2
M: Mary, did the final of the College Students’ Innovation Competition conclude on October 15th?
W: Yes, but I was too busy to attend the closing ceremony yesterday.
Text 3
M: Hi, Sarah. I heard you earned a $12,500 scholarship for your continuing education at Harvard University. I’m so happy for you. Congratulations!
W: Thank you, David.
Text 4
M: That night was quite an experience.
W: Luckily, my husband was still awake, working. His screaming woke us all up. The house was already burning by then.
Text 5
W: Hi, Jack, where are you going?
M: I’m going to the library. I think I left my headphones there, next to the printer. You didn’t see them, did you?
W: No, maybe someone took them to the lost and found.
Text 6
M: Nadia, what’s that you’re writing?
W: It’s the essay for our French class. You know, the one about a person who’s a role model for us. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten about it again?
M: No, not this time! Who are you writing about?
W: My grandma, Emily. I used to live with her when I was little. I’ve got lots of clear memories of her teaching me how to draw, dance and do simple household chores. She’s the only person I turn to for suggestions when I’m in trouble. So, without her, I wouldn’t have succeeded in my life.
Text 7
M: Oh, I’m completely broke.
W: Me, too! So how about having a money-free weekend?
M: A money-free weekend? That seems unbelievable. There’s not much you can do without money.
W: Well, my sister told me about that. She’s at university and can’t afford to spend money on non-essentials, so she and her friends regularly have money-free weekends. For example, they usually go to the art museum because it is free on Sundays.
M: We can also do that. So that’s Sunday sorted, but we still need something to do on Saturday.
W: There are tours of the local motorbike company and the chocolate factory, both on Saturdays.
M: I love chocolate. Let’s do that.
Text 8
M: Mrs Brown, I’ve watched a lot of your videos on the Internet. You seem to really like exercising. Why did you begin to exercise?
W: Well, I started taking a dance class at 19. Most of the class was spent doing different types of exercise so our bodies were fit enough to do the dance routines. Through this class, I fell in love with exercising.
M: How do you stay fit now?
W: I usually run from 6 am to 6:30 am in the park before breakfast. After supper, I like to swim from 7 pm to 8 pm.
M: Does your job require you to sit for long hours?
W: Yes. It involves a lot of computing, the job of producing computer programs. But I make a conscious effort to stand up every one hour.
M: Well, you live a very healthy life. I’ll follow your example.
Text 9
M: Hi, guys! I’m Aziz and this is Daria. Welcome back to Talking About Life. Today, we’re putting hobbies under the microscope.
W: Yes. Hobbies are a great way of enjoying your free time, but what if you could make some money from the activities you love doing?
M: Seriously? Money from a hobby?
W: Yes. Today we’ll look at two young people who turned a hobby into a job. First, there’s Natalie. She turned her love for drawing into a business. After finishing school, she decided to print her designs on T-shirts. So she bought 500 ordinary T-shirts, and then transformed the T-shirts with her animal-themed designs and sold them.
M: Unbelievable.
W: Yes. Our next success story is about Zayn.
M: He loved chess and started teaching chess online when he was 16. He attracted over 32,000 followers. A famous local board game brand contacted him about advertising their products in his posts, but he had other ideas.
W: Three years later, Zayn set up a chess club to teach children aged six to eleven in the neighborhood. His classes were quite popular.
Text 10
M: Last summer, I cycled over a hundred kilometers across Scotland. I did it with my dad, our woman guide, and three other people. The starting point was outside a town. We soon entered a forest, with a narrow track to ride on. We didn’t come across any wildcats in the forest, though some were supposed to live there. There were loads of rabbits, and we did spot some deer. We stayed in a tent on the first night. We set off early on the second day, and started to climb a hilly path. The first part was covered in leaves which were so slippery that I almost gave up. I actually stuck at it — we reached some thick mud and none of us could ride anymore, so we had to carry our bikes for a while. We finally reached the top of the mountain. That area gets lots of rain, and often there are strong winds as it’s so high up, but we were lucky with the weather for the most part. The whole trip was an amazing experience.

One possible version:
Hearing Mia’s desperate screams, Mrs Miller rushed over at once. With no proper tools, she began calling for other neighbors loudly. In no time, many kind residents arrived quickly with ropes, wooden boards and soft blankets. They acted calmly and unitedly: Some held a long board firmly to stop the bank from collapsing, some carefully lowered a soft basket with a strong rope, and others spoke in gentle voices to calm the scared and trembling dog. Everyone spared no effort and worked closely together to save the helpless little life.
Little by little Buddy was pulled up. Once out of the ditch, Buddy shook his muddy fur and shook his tail excitedly seeming to show his sincere thanks. Mia held Buddy tightly in her arms, tears of relief rolling down her cheeks. She thanked all the neighbors from the bottom of her heart. “This warm rescue not only saved a lovely little life but also showed the true spirit of our community,” she said. Their beautiful neighborhood was wonderful in environment, and it was even more precious for its kindness, unity and warm love between neighbors.

In the high-speed modern world, isn’t it a pleasure to slow down in a walkable city to enjoy the sound of a street performer, the smells of freshly-baked bread rising from a bakery, or the sight of neighbors smiling?
London, England
Though cars are everywhere today, many visitors and locals often choose to use a combination of walking, public transit, and cycling to avoid getting caught in an annoying traffic block. Some of the best walks in London are walks along the Thames. If the bustle (喧闹) of the city streets grows tiring, walkers can escape to the green of London’s beautiful parks.
Paris, France
While Paris may be the “City of Love” for many people, it’s the “City of Walking” to others. It’s hard to know where to begin with a city that would take many lifetimes to fully explore, but the banks of the Seine have to be in the running. Another essential Paris experience is taking a walk across the city’s many beautiful and historical bridges.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is legendary for its person-focused, rather than car-focused, streets. You can walk or bike to just about all of them, depending on your level of mobility. Even the walking or cycling between each stop is a destination in itself, with views of canals, amazing architecture, and lively streets.
Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
A confused traveler would be forgiven for thinking that they found themselves in Europe after a brief walk in this Canadian city. Naturally, Old Quebec City — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is one of the loveliest areas to walk through. Exploring this neighborhood is like crossing the Atlantic without the heavy price and long flight.
21. What can people in London do to relax from busy streets?
A. Go to parks. B. Live in old towns.
C. Work in quiet places. D. Drive along the river.
22. Where can visitors enjoy canals while walking?
A. In London. B. In Paris. C. In Amsterdam. D. In Quebec City.
23. What do we know about Quebec City?
A. It is full of traffic jams. B. It has car-centered streets.
C. It is a famous romantic city. D. It feels like a European city.

In his book Speed: How it Explains the World, Vaclav Smil explores the concept of speed, which humans have long regarded as impressive, magical and highly desirable. He interprets speed from two aspects: the physical rate at which objects move within a certain time and a broader measure of changes in individuals, groups and social systems. Adopting a data-based approach, the book covers a wide range of topics, from natural events including volcanoes and species evolution to human creations such as traditional sailing ships and modern supercomputers.
Technological innovations, especially the replacement of animal power with steam and electric power, have greatly raised the pace of life and production. Faster transportation, more efficient production and extraordinary economic growth have taken place worldwide. People’s average life expectancy has increased greatly, and advanced technology makes rapid medical progress possible.
Nevertheless, the uncontrolled desire for speed brings obvious disadvantages. High work pressure caused by extreme efficiency leads to more accidents in workplaces like factories and warehouses. Higher driving speed sharply increases the risk of serious injury or death in traffic accidents. For commercial airplanes, high speed results in extremely high fuel consumption, so speed has to be balanced with economic benefits. Moreover, heavy traffic in urban areas actually reduces people’s real travelling speed.
Smil regards himself as a speed sceptic (怀疑论者). He is not against speed itself but advocates a reasonable and balanced attitude. We should welcome higher speed where it brings real benefits, such as timely medical treatment, and slow down where it threatens safety, the environment or social equality. We should never seek speed blindly or run after it for its own sake.
Reviewer Richard Dunn agrees with Smil’s central opinion but argues that the book should focus more on contemporary society rather than the long history of the Earth. He also questions whether continuous growth, instead of speed, is the key concern in modern politics and economy. He believes deeper reflections on modern lifestyle would make the book more meaningful and practical.
24. How does Smil develop his ideas in the book?
A. By giving living guidance. B. By covering different fields.
C. By telling historical stories. D. By showing economic data.
25. What is a probable result of overseeking speed?
A. More green transport. B. Reduced traffic pressure.
C. Unexpected risks at work. D. Quicker medical development.
26. What can be learned about Smil’s book?
A. It ignores Earth’s history. B. It advocates continuous progress.
C. It offers modern lifestyle advice. D. It focuses less on modern society.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Take a Wise Look at Life’s Pace
B. Avoid Hidden Risks in Daily Life
C. Master Skills of Modern Technologies
D. Raise Work Efficiency in Good Ways
C
As holidaymakers travel to unfamiliar places, this means demand for online customer reviews. Whether you are looking on Tripadvisor, Airbnb or Amazon, you will almost certainly be guided by reviews from other people. Should you be? The short answer is yes: better to have some information than none. But the weaknesses of online reviews are evident.
For products with some objective measures of quality, there is a big gap between the views of customers and experts. A study in 2016 found that user ratings for 1,272 items listed on Amazon.com bore little relation to either the decision of Consumer Reports, an American product-testing organization, or to their resale value. That might be because consumers place greater value on more subjective things like a product’s brand.
But if ratings are based on subjective criteria, then another problem arises: What if your tastes differ from other people’s? The best book ever, according to members of GoodReads, an online community of book lovers, is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. You may agree, but plenty of people do not.
Another problem is that the people who bother to leave reviews and ratings may not be representative of consumers as a whole. A Spanish study in 2020 examined the distribution of ratings left in around 280 million reviews of more than 2 million products and services on 25 different platforms. It confirms a familiar pattern: a polar distribution of ratings, with more of them at the extremes of the scale than in the middle, towards more positive ratings. The reason? Extreme experiences, good and bad, are more likely to inspire reviews. Besides, people who have chosen to buy something are already more likely to be satisfied with it.
But consumers can also help themselves. Researchers suggest that people put too much weight on the overall average rating. The absolute number of reviews is a better indicator of actual popularity. And it is the detail in a review that tells you whether the person writing it prefers young-adult fiction to other genres. Reviews, then, are even more useful if you read them.
28. What is the author’s attitude towards online reviews?
A. Uncaring. B. Dismissive. C. Cautious. D. Approving.
29. What can be inferred from paragraph 2?
A. Resale value decides product quality. B. Experts judge products more objectively.
C. Customers ignore subjective preferences. D. Expert opinions are more widely accepted.
30. Why do online ratings tend to be polarized?
A. Platforms prefer positive reviews. B. Most buyers are difficult to please.
C. Few users share their real experiences. D. Strong feelings encourage users to comment.
31. What does the author suggest readers do about online reviews?
A. Check reviews in detail. B. Follow others’ choices blindly.
C. Ignore the total number of reviews. D. Depend on average ratings completely.
D
An international team of researchers has genetically modified a probiotic yeast (益生酵母) called Saccharomyces boulardii to make it safer for the elderly and people in poor health. This yeast is widely used to protect and improve gut (肠) health, but it has been reported to cause serious bloodstream infections in people with weak bodies, babies and the elderly. “We wondered whether it was possible to genetically modify this yeast to make it safer for sensitive patients,” said Alexandra Imre, the first author of the study.
In the study, researchers tested different kinds of yeast collected from commercial probiotic products and patient samples, including two who had suffered infections caused by the yeast. They infected weak mice with these different kinds and studied their harmful effects. They also examined how the yeast acted under difficult living conditions, especially in environments with high levels of salt. Imre explained, “The kinds of yeast that were most harmful in our mouse study were also those that could best survive high-salt environments.”
The team then centered on two key genes, ENA1 and NHA1, which help the yeast subsist under high-salt stress. They removed these genes and repeated the experiments. Deleting the NHA1 gene produced little effect, but removing ENA1 greatly reduced the harm of the yeast. “Before deleting ENA1, mice infected with the most harmful yeast had a survival rate of only 30-40%,” Imre noted. “After editing, the survival rate rose to 100% in our six-day experiment.”
Further tests proved the modified yeast still kept its probiotic functions. “It could stop the growth of harmful bacteria and live well in the gut just like common probiotic,” added Nathan Crook, co-author of the paper.
The study clearly shows the close connection between salt stress tolerance and the harmfulness of the yeast. Though more research is needed to fully explain the biological rules behind it, the findings offer new hope for developing safe probiotic treatments for patients who cannot use traditional probiotics.
32. Why did the researchers genetically modify the yeast?
A. To increase its growth speed.
B. To make it safer for weak patients.
C. To discover new types of probiotics.
D. To help it resist high-salt environments.
33. What is proved by the mouse experiments?
A. Salt-tolerant yeast is more harmful.
B. Commercial yeast causes no infections.
C. Salt can reduce the yeast’s harmfulness.
D. All yeast acts the same in high-salt conditions.
34. What does the underlined word “subsist” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Store energy. B. Change genes. C. Keep alive. D. Fight illnesses.
35. What does paragraph 4 mainly convey to us?
A. Salt stress kills harmful bacteria rapidly.
B. The genes affect the yeast’s growth speed.
C. High salt levels limit the growth of the yeast.
D. The modified yeast still works as a probiotic.

How to Keep a Family Gratitude Journal
A gratitude journal is a fun way to help your family spend more quality time together and voice their innermost appreciation. Choose a family member to take notes. Then, the whole family can take turns reflecting on and answering these meaningful questions about gratitude.
What are you most grateful for? 36 Rather than simply saying “I’m thankful for food”, you can share something more touching, such as “I treasure the warm taste of Grandma’s sweet potato dish every Thanksgiving Day”.
37 Deepen the family communication by expressing your inner feelings and the positive influences brought by those precious things. For example, you can write down how Grandma’s special dishes constantly remind you of the selfless love she devotes to the whole family.
What would life be like without the most treasured things? Think about how tough it might be to go without some of the things that bring your family joy. 38 After all, talking about such stories with children helps them develop the virtues of kindness and gratitude from an early age. Without the warmth of caring for others and being cared for, life would lose its most precious meaning.
What keeps you holding a grateful attitude? Share personal experiences, inspiring stories or daily habits that remind you to stay thankful in life. Explain why these things impress you deeply and how they change your outlook on life. For instance, you can tell your family about someone who remains grateful even facing life’s difficulties. 39
Keeping a family gratitude journal is an excellent way to hold heart-to-heart talks with your beloved ones. 40 And if you keep the journal year after year, you will gain great pleasure from looking back and reliving the warm memories shared by every family member.
A. Gather your journaling material.
B. Give specific descriptions instead of simple replies.
C. Or share an activity you did that helped you feel thankful.
D. How do the things you feel grateful for affect your emotions?
E. Are there lots of habits and tricks that you can try to practice?
F. You will value the time you spend reconnecting with each other.
G. For example, share warming stories of harmony in your community.

After a violent overnight rainstorm, the peaceful neighborhood finally welcomed a fresh and bright morning. The community was well-designed with clean paths, green trees, thick bushes and carefully arranged landscapes, making it a comfortable and lovely home for every resident. People living here took deep pride in their harmonious neighborhood and treasured the beautiful environment with all their hearts. However, the sudden heavy rain left the ground wet and muddy, and the ditches (沟渠) hidden in the corners were filled with rising water, bringing unexpected dangers.
Mia, a kind young resident who had lived in the community for years, took her lovely dog Buddy for a walk after the rain. Breathing the fresh air, she admired the clean and tidy neighborhood she loved so much. Soon she met Mrs Miller, a friendly and warm-hearted neighbor. They greeted each other warmly and chatted happily, enjoying the quiet beauty of their beloved community while Buddy ran around cheerfully, full of energy.
Suddenly, a colorful butterfly flew past them. Amazed and curious, Buddy rushed after it at once. Before Mia could stop him, his paws (爪子) slipped on the wet, muddy bank. The next moment, the little dog fell into the deep, narrow ditch. The walls were extremely steep (陡峭的) and slippery, and the water inside was rising quickly. Trapped at the bottom, Buddy struggled desperately but without result, letting out frightened and painful cries.
Mia was frozen with horror and panic. She immediately went down on her knees by the ditch, stretching her arms as far as possible, trying hard to reach her beloved dog. But the ditch was too deep and the bank too loose. Every time Buddy struggled upward, he slipped back into the dirty water. Mia’s heart sank with fear and guilt; she cried for help at the top of her lungs; tears filled her eyes as she watched Buddy suffering.
注意:
