SQ3R is a useful and practical method to help students understand and remember written information more effectively (高效地). It is especially helpful for middle school students who need to deal with a lot of reading materials. The name stands for five steps: Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. By following these steps, students can improve their reading comprehension and remember what they have learned for a longer time.
Survey means scanning the material quickly before reading it carefully. Look at the title, headings, pictures, introductory paragraphs, and the summary. This helps you get a general idea of the text and helps you prepare for deeper reading.
Question means raising questions while surveying. You can ask, “What is the main idea of this part?” or “How does this step help me learn better?”. This step is very important because raising questions keeps your mind active and gives your reading a clear purpose.
Read the text carefully to find answers to your questions. Read one part at a time and don’t rush. You can also take notes or highlight (标记) unfamiliar terms to better understand the material.
Recite means closing the book and trying to say the answers in your own words. This checks your understanding and strengthens (增强) your memory. If you cannot remember something, go back and read that part again.
Review means going through your notes or the text again after some time. Regular review helps you keep the information in your mind for a long time and makes it easier to recall when needed.
In a word, SQ3R is an effective learning method that can improve your reading ability. It’s used by more and more students and is really worth trying.

AI Helps Protect Endangered Creatures (生物)
More and more researchers are using artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor (监测) the environment and help creatures in danger. With the development of technology, AI is playing an important role in nature protection.
Today, about one million kinds of creatures are endangered. In 2020, the United Nations set a goal: to protect at least 30% of Earth’s land and oceans by 2030. To achieve this goal, AI has become a powerful tool. “AI is ‘imperfect’ but could make important discoveries faster and earlier”, says Miailhe. “We need skilled humans to design AI models and check and collect data (数据).”
A type of AI model, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), has been developed to recognize bird sounds. The CNN can pick out 75 kinds of birds from recordings. “Our results prove that AI is ready for recognizing creatures in the wild from sound,” says Muller, the team leader. This technology helps scientists track (追踪) birds without catching or disturbing (打扰) them.
Besides monitoring creatures, AI can also be used to study how human activities influence (影响) the environment. For example, researchers have used AI to create pictures or models. These help people better understand how pollution in a river over 100 years has caused creatures to disappear. These pictures make people care more about nature.
Scientists know that human activities have harmed animals in rivers and lakes, but they don’t know which activities do the most harm. “AI will help us find out soon,” says Luisa Orsini, a researcher from the University of Birmingham. With AI’s help, scientists hope to get more answers and take better actions to protect our planet.
12. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. The role of AI in nature protection. B. The number of endangered creatures. C. The development of AI technology.
13. What can the CNN AI model do according to the passage?
A. Track all kinds of endangered creatures. B. Catch and disturb wild birds for research. C. Recognize different bird sounds from recordings.
14. What do we know about AI from paragraph 4?
A. It can catch animals in rivers and lakes. B. It can study human activities’ influence. C. It can monitor creatures without human help.
15. What will the writer most probably talk about next?
A. The problems AI faces in nature. B. The ways AI helps protect creatures. C. The scientists who develop AI models.

Digital (电子) tours have become more and more popular in China in recent years. With just a click (点击) on the phone or computer, people can “visit” places of interest across the country without leaving home.
Many museums and scenic spots in China have launched (发布) digital tour services. For example, the Palace Museum has a 3D digital tour on its website. People can see the details of the ancient buildings and cultural relics (文物). They can also listen to professional (专业的) introductions about the history behind each relic, just like having a personal tour guide. The digital tour of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang allows people to see the ancient paintings and sculptures (雕塑) in the caves clearly, which helps protect the cultural relics at the same time.
Digital tours have many advantages (优势). First, they are free and convenient. People can visit the places at any time, no matter the weather or the distance (距离). Second, they help avoid the crowds during the travel peak (高峰) seasons. People can enjoy the views quietly at home. What’s more, digital tours can reach more people, especially the elderly and disabled people who cannot travel easily.
However, many people still prefer on-site (现场的) travel. They say that digital tours cannot bring the real feeling of being there. You cannot feel the wind on the Great Wall, smell the peonies (牡丹) in Luoyang or taste the local snacks through a screen.
In fact, digital tours and on-site travel are not against each other. Digital tours can help people _____41_____ before they visit it in person. They are a new way for people to know about China’s history and culture.

上文提到“there are three qualities we can learn from the good language learners to improve our study”,说明要阐述优秀语言学习者的品质,这里说优秀学习者对使用语言机会的态度,pay attention to“注重,关注”符合语境,即关注使用语言的机会。get along with“与……

根据“the”和“person to row across the Atlantic”可知,这里要用形容词最高级,“young”的最高级是youngest,所以填youngest。
“a chance to do sth.”
41. How can people “visit” places of interest without leaving home?
________________________________________
42. What can people do on the Palace Museum’s digital tour?
________________________________________
43. How many advantages of digital tours are mentioned in paragraph 3?
________________________________________
44. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?
________________________________________
45. Complete the sentence in paragraph 5 with proper words.
________________________________________
41. By clicking on the phone or computer./With just a click on the phone or computer.
42. They can see the details of the ancient buildings and cultural relics, and listen to professional introductions about the history behind each relic.
43. Three (advantages).
44. Many people still prefer on-site travel because digital tours cannot bring the real feeling of being there.
45. get to know a place/learn about a place/prepare for a trip
第一段明确提到“With just a click (点击) on the phone or computer, people can ‘visit’ places of interest across the country without leaving home.”,意思是人们只需在手机或电脑上点击一下,就能足不出户“游览”全国各地的名胜古迹,所以答案是原文直接信息。
第二段指出“For example, the Palace Museum has a 3D digital tour on its website. People can see the details of the ancient buildings and cultural relics (文物). They can also listen to professional (专业的) introductions about the history behind each relic”,即故宫博物院在其网站上有3D电子旅游,人们可以看到古建筑和文物的细节,还能听专业人士对每件文物背后历史的介绍,这是原文中的具体表述,直接提取即可。
第三段提到“First, they are free and convenient... Second, they help avoid the crowds during the travel peak (高峰) seasons... What’s more, digital tours can reach more people, especially the elderly and disabled people who cannot travel easily.”,分别阐述了电子旅游免费方便、能避开旅游高峰人群、能覆盖更多人群(尤其是老年人和残疾人)这三个优势,所以答案是Three (advantages)。
第四段首句“However, many people still prefer on-site (现场的) travel.”表明很多人仍偏好现场旅游,后面“They say that digital tours cannot bring the real feeling of being there...”
根据前文“In fact, digital tours and on-site travel are not against each other.”以及后文“They are a new way for people to know about China’s history and culture.”
