At a nearby bookshop I paid for a membership card that allows me to borrow two or three books at a time and keep them for a month. Owning a book has its advantages, such as allowing you to make notes to your heart’s content, and you can reread it anytime you want, but borrowing holds advantages, too. One consideration is space, and in my city where a foot of land is worth an inch of gold, this issue speaks volumes when it comes to owning books. You want to reread a book, but just look at how many books there are on your bookshelf that you haven’t finished reading even once. People tend to finish books they borrow more quickly than the ones they own, mainly because of the pressure of a deadline. Several times during the year I stayed up late to finish a book the night before the due date. I finished about 10 more books that way.
