(An old woman lived alone in a small village. The villagers took good care of her, but she was still unhappy. She wanted a child of her own ...)
Scene One
One winter day, she walked out and saw a small white animal on the ice. It was a baby bear. The bear looked small and felt very cold. The old woman spoke softly to the bear, “Poor little thing. Come with me.” Then she carried him home.
Inside her house, the old woman held the bear close until he was warm. She touched him gently and sang to him softly. He felt comfortable in her arms.

Scene Three
One day, some villagers said to the old woman, “The bear has grown big and strong enough. He is a good hunter now. You’d better let him go back to the wild.”
In the following days, the old woman was quiet, thinking. Finally, she said to the bear, “It’s time for you to leave. Be safe. Be free.” She put her arms around his neck. Her tears ran into his fur.
The bear walked slowly away from her and looked back again and again. Then he disappeared.
Scene Four
A long time passed. The winter came again. One day, the old woman stood at the same place for a long time. The wind blew snow around her face. Suddenly, the white bear appeared and ran to her.

①Friends are very important in our lives. If you’re a quiet and shy person and want to know how to make friends, here’s some advice for you.
②Start with small things. If you have a feeling of loneliness (孤单), don’t be afraid of making friends with others. Always start with small steps. Begin communicating with one or two people to get comfortable in socializing (交际). That way your life will not be too busy, and you’ll learn something about communication.
③Get along with people who have similar interests to you. If you communicate with a few people first, get to know them and try to find your common interests. For example, if both of you like soccer or basketball, then sports can be a good topic between you and your friend.
④Remember quality over quantity. It’s always about having two or three good friendships instead of having ten unstable (不稳定) relationships. The more we care about quantity, the more tiring our lives will be. Try to make friends with those who help you in trouble.
⑤Keep positive (积极的) and never compare. Even if you can’t find your true friend in few months or years, you should keep on trying. Always keep your experiences in the past to continue building your friendships. Also, never forget that every person is special in his/her ways. So, don’t compare one friend of yours with another. Find out their differences and show your full respect.
⑥If you follow the advice above, you are sure to make your true friends.

Everyone wants to write beautifully. And I love something special—Chinese calligraphy.
When I was a little child, I loved to watch my grandparents write Chinese characters with ink brushes. Later I came to learn about many Chinese calligraphers, such as Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty.
At the age of 9, I joined a writing class to learn Chinese calligraphy. The teacher showed many of his calligraphy works. I told myself that I would practise hard and try to become as good as him.
At first, I followed the teacher carefully. As soon as the teacher wrote a character, I wrote the same one. Before long I could write many difficult characters. I was happy and believed that I was talented (有天赋的) in Chinese calligraphy.
However, after a year of learning, although I practised hard, the teacher pointed out some problems in my calligraphy. I thought it was just a way to improve my writing skills, but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is part of Chinese culture. Besides, I thought it was just about mimicry (模仿), but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is a creation that comes from the heart. He said that a writer should think carefully about what he wants to show before he starts to write.
I’m not sure if I fully understood the teacher. But from then on, I spent more time thinking and practising my writing. I will continue practising and I hope one day I can know the essence (精华) of Chinese calligraphy.

How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? How do you feel when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you’re around other people. Experts (专家) have found that more than 80 percent of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.
It’s OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It’s just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences (断断续续的句子) when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill (账单). Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn’t a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There’s nothing to be afraid of.

C
(An old woman lived alone in a small village. The villagers took good care of her, but she was still unhappy. She wanted a child of her own ...)
Scene One
One winter day, she walked out and saw a small white animal on the ice. It was a baby bear. The bear looked small and felt very cold. The old woman spoke softly to the bear, “Poor little thing. Come with me.” Then she carried him home.
Inside her house, the old woman held the bear close until he was warm. She touched him gently and sang to him softly. He felt comfortable in her arms.
Scene Two
Time passed quickly and the bear grew big and strong. One day, some villagers said to him, “Little Bear, go hunting with us. We’ll teach you how to hunt.” The bear followed them. Soon the bear became a better hunter than the villagers.
When the weather was bad, everyone stayed indoors. Then the bear went out into the snow and brought home enough fish for the whole village. The old woman felt proud of him.
Scene Three
One day, some villagers said to the old woman, “The bear has grown big and strong enough.
Now, once a year, in winter, the old woman and her little bear meet each other at the same place.
—Adapted from Little Bear
28. In which season did the old woman first meet the baby bear?
A. Spring. B. Summer. C. Autumn. D. Winter.
29. Which of the following is the right order of the passage?
a. The white bear appeared and ran to her.
b. The bear became a better hunter than the villagers.
c. The old woman held the bear close until he was warm.
d. The old woman decided to let the bear go back to the wild.
A. c-b-d-a B. a-c-d-b C. a-d-b-c D. c-a-b-d
30. What can we infer (推断) from the underlined sentence?
A. The bear didn’t get well and was still ill. B. The bear was too fat to walk any further.
C. The bear didn’t want to leave the old woman. D. The bear said goodbye to the village children.
31.
Each picture above matches one scene. Which scene is missing?
A. Scene One. B. Scene Two. C. Scene Three. D. Scene Four.
D 29. A 30. C 31. C
根据Scene One第一段中的“One winter day, she walked out and saw a small white animal on the ice. It was a baby bear.”
根据Scene One第二段中的“Inside her house, the old woman held the bear close until he was warm.”可知,老妇人救下小熊并为它取暖,对应c;根据Scene Two第一段中的“Soon the bear became a better hunter than the villagers.”可知,小熊长大成为优秀的猎手,对应b;根据Scene Three中的 “You’d better let him go back to the wild.”和“It’s time for you to leave.”可知,老妇人决定放小熊回归野外,对应d;根据Scene Four第一段中的“Suddenly, the white bear appeared and ran to her.”

41. Did the writer get interested in Chinese calligraphy in his early years?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
42. How did the writer feel about his progress in calligraphy?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
43. What did the teacher think of Chinese calligraphy?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
44. What is the passage mainly about?
____________________________________________________________________________________________
41. Yes, he did.
42. He felt happy and believed he was talented in Chinese calligraphy.
43. The teacher thought Chinese calligraphy was part of Chinese culture and a creation that comes from the heart.
44. It is mainly about the writer’s experience and understanding of learning Chinese calligraphy.
第二段“When I was a little child, I loved to watch my grandparents write Chinese characters with ink brushes.”,作者小时候喜欢看祖父母用毛笔写汉字,说明他在年幼时就开始对中国书法感兴趣了。
第四段“Before long I could write many difficult characters. I was happy and believed that I was talented (有天赋的) in Chinese calligraphy.”,作者对自己的书法进步感觉“开心”并且相信自己在书法上有天赋”。
倒数第二段“...but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is part of Chinese culture...but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is a creation that comes from the heart.”,老师认为“中国书法是中国传统文化的一部分,还是一种来自内心的创造。”。

46. I have a bad cold.
________ the ________ with you?
What’s ②. matter
What’s the matter with you?或What’s wrong with you?,意思是“你怎么了?”,wrong前不加the,所以用第一种句型。
47. It’s a good idea to take up a hobby.
________ up a hobby ________ a good idea.
Taking ②. is
原句s “it is+名词+to do sth.” 改写后的句子将动词短语take up a hobby变为动名词形式Taking up a hobby作主语,动名词短语作主语时,谓语动词用单数形式is,故填Taking;is。
Jack ________ realize it was late ________ all the street lamps went off.
【答案】 ①. didn’t ②. until

Don’t Worry. Be Happy!
Good morning, everyone! Today, my topic is “Don’t Worry. Be Happy!”.
Last term, I failed an important math exam. I felt really sad and worried for days. I thought I was not good enough.
Then my best friend noticed my low mood. She encouraged me to talk about my feelings. I also started to listen to soft music and took a walk in the park every day. Slowly, I felt much better .
From this experience, I learned that bad feelings will pass. When we face difficulties, we can ask friends for help or do something we enjoy. Don’t worry. Just stay positive and be happy!
