Many people are afraid of losing their jobs to robots, and this fear isn’t actually new. It has been discussed for more than a century. According to some studies, with AI becoming smarter than ever, over 80% of jobs could be at risk. So, how can we stay important at work in the world with robots?
In fact, AI is part of human progress. We should think of it as a powerful tool. That means welcoming the technology, accepting that it’s here to stay, and learning how to use it to make our work easier or to help us perform better.
It might also be a good idea to develop more skills, for example, by taking online courses or exploring different roles in a company. Remember to keep an open mind about future jobs, as this can help us adapt (适应) to new changes better.
AI can do quite a lot, but not everything, at least for now. We can focus on those things that only humans can do. These are often called “soft skills”. They are more about how we behave and work with others.
“We should develop our emotional intelligence (情商) in the workplace. We should pay attention to the way we communicate with others and show kindness. Creativity and problem-solving are two more areas where humans still have a clear advantage over robots,” suggested Michael S. Seaver, a leadership coach.
It’s important to note that new technology will not affect all of us in the same way. Some people might find it harder to adapt to new things. This could increase (增加) their risk of being replaced by robots.
7. Why are many people afraid of robots?
A. Because they think AI will stop developing soon.
B. Because robots can communicate with humans better.
C. Because they worry that robots will take their jobs away.
D. Because robots will become more intelligent than humans.
8. What does the writer suggest we do about AI?
A. Wait and see. B. Refuse to use it.
C. Use it to do easy tasks. D. Accept and learn to use it.
9. From Michael S. Seaver’s words, we can learn that ________.
A. robots have an advantage in creative thinking
B. robots are good at showing kindness to others
C. emotional intelligence is useless in the workplace
D. humans are still better at problem-solving than robots
10. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To tell us how AI changes the whole world.
B. To teach us how to develop soft skills quickly.
C. To show us how to stay important in the AI age.
D. To explain why AI is not useful for human work.
D
Not long ago, a photo of the football players in my college showed up on my phone as a “memory”, which was kept through the digital memory (数字记忆). I was surprised to see the photo at first and sweet memories flashed into my mind.
In the photo, the players from the football team hugged together in excitement after they won the game. At that time, I took a photo of them with my phone. It recorded the friendship and the happiness. Then, I fell into the habit of taking photos of everything. More and more photos filled my phone so I almost forgot this photo. Thanks to the digital memory, I could enjoy the happy time again.
People needed to make an effort to record things in the past. But now we can do something like that easily through the digital memory. We put what we want to remember into our smartphones. Most of the photos that I have kept on my phones— and in the cloud now— bring happy memories back to me.
However, not all the digital memories are happy. Some are sad. When I see the photos of my lost pet, I am worried. Because they make me recall something I want to forget. Usually, digital memories are sent to me non-stop and without any human-like feelings. That drives me crazy.
It’s hard to say clearly when the digital memory started madly. These digital memories, whether happy or sad, break into our lives. In my job as a reporter, I have spent the past five years taking different photos. They will always be there, whatever.

The history of traffic lights dates back to the early 19th century in Britain. London was a busy city with horse-drawn carriages (马车). They often rushed into people, causing many accidents. At the same time, there was a fashion rule in London—women in red showed that they were married and green for unmarried. This gave people the idea for using red and green as traffic signs later.
On December 10th, 1868, British mechanic (机械师) De Hart designed the world’s first traffic light with only red and green. A policeman had to pull a belt to change the lights: red meant “stop”, and green meant “go”. At first, it worked well and reduced accidents. However, this traffic light exploded (爆炸) after 23 days. The light was turned off, but the idea stayed alive.
In 1914, electric traffic lights were first used in America. Red and green still did their jobs, then they were safer and easier to see.
In 1927, a Chinese student named Hu Ruding was studying in the US. He noticed drivers sometimes rushed when the light changed. “What if there’s a middle color to slow people down?” he thought. That’s how the yellow light was born, meaning “get ready to stop.” Around the same time, an American policeman named William Potts created the first three-color traffic lights for all directions. They made crossroads much safer.
These colors were not chosen by chance. Red is easy to see, like a fire alarm, so it means “danger-stop!” Yellow is a warning, like a sign that says “be careful—slow down!” Green, like a forest, tells us “safe to go!” Together, they form a common language that keeps safe every day.
Great ideas come from everyday things. Whether traffic lights or something else, noticing and thinking “what if” can change the world!
41. When did the world’s first traffic light with only red and green appear?

第三部分 书面表达(共两节,计30分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,计10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。

42. Who suggested adding a yellow light to traffic signs?
