As a huge fan of English and life science, I firmly recommend the combination of English and biology for our cross-disciplinary course. To begin with, most cutting-edge papers on biological research are published in English. A good command of English will help us access global latest breakthroughs smoothly, especially for students aiming for biology majors in future college study. Besides, the experiment-based and inquiry-driven features of biology will offer us vivid real-life materials, making our English learning far more interesting and practical. Hope my practical suggestion will be helpful. Looking forward to the fantastic new class experience! Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) Next Sunday evening, our youth group met. My fellows put forward several suggestions and Inervously presented the idea of taking seniors to see the New Year lights. To my pleasant surprise, the New Year lights tour won their hearts. Even Brian smiled and said, “That’s a brilliant idea!” We called the seniors’ home and they were thrilled about our proposal. The following weeks, we were busy lining up everything for the tour, including the bus to drive the seniors along the planned route. On New Year’s Day, the bus we rented arrived at the seniors’ home in the snow. Despite the cold, the snow added a magical white blanket to the neighborhood. We helped the seniors get on, and soon the bus was filled with cheerful talk. As we drove through the streets, their eyes widened at the sparkling lights. They pointed and shared stories, their faces full of joy. Returning to the seniors’ home, they couldn’t stop talking about all they’d seen and thanked us again and again. Looking at their excited and grateful faces, we’d never felt warmer. 听力原文 【Text 1】 W: I hate driving in winter. Even on bright days like this, the sun is so low in the sky that it almost blinds you. M: The weather is much better today. I had to drive up to my mother’s last weekend in that heavy snow! Still, at least there hasn’t been any ice on the roads so far. 【Text 2】 W: Jim really needs to be more careful. M: Yes, he got coffee all over his new suit and the table. W: I hope the power supply of his laptop is disconnected quickly enough. 【Text 3】 W: Excuse me, but would you mind waiting your turn at the end of the line? M: Sorry! My fault. I’ll go to queue up right now. 【Text 4】 W: How much did we pay for the repair of the house? M: I had thought that it would cost us around $ 500, but it actually cost twice as much. 【Text 5】 M: I heard on the radio that it’ll be sunny during the weekend. Maybe we can take a trip to Boston. W: That sounds great. I’ll call Jane to see if she likes to join us. 【Text 6】 M: I sent my new book to the publisher last week, but I haven’t heard a word back yet. W: Hmm, is that a promising sign or a worrying one? M: Honestly, I’m not quite sure. Probably the latter. I’m really on edge about this. What if they despise it? W: Come on, stay optimistic. You’ve managed to write three books! Most people can’t even finish one. That’s no small feat. M: You’re absolutely right. I should focus on the positive aspects. W: Exactly! Hey, why don’t we step away from all this for a bit and do something enjoyable to get this off your mind? M: That sounds good. What do you have in mind? W: How about we head to the cinema? There’s that new comedy out, supposed to be amazing. Might help loosen you up. M: Perfect. 【Text 7】 W: Hello. I purchased tickets online for your exhibit this Saturday, but the marathon held in the city center will cause transportation difficulties. It will be hard for me to get to the museum. How can Icancel the visit and get my money back? M: According to the museum’s policy, if your travel plans change, you may cancel your visit on our booking system and get your entrance fee back. But a cancellation fee will be charged in most cases, unless you are experiencing a significant schedule change or an exhibition cancellation. W: Could I change the tickets? M: Yes, you can do that on the official website. Actually, if you plan to visit more times in the near future, a membership, especially the VIP card, would bring big cost saving for you. W: Oh, I have too many financial burdens at the moment. Maybe in the future I’ll consider it. Thanks for your suggestion though. 【Text 8】 W: Good morning, David. Thank you for joining us. To begin, what do you think is the most common mistake people make with their online safety? M: The most common mistake is using simple, repeated passwords. W: That’s an important point. So, what should everyone do first to improve their personal online security? M: The very first step is to turn on two-step confirmation. This adds an extra layer of protection besides just a password. W: Finally, what is your most important advice? M: Stay alert and cautious. Double-check any unexpected messages or requests, even if they seem to come from someone you know. W: Thank you so much for sharing these helpful insights, David. M: You’re welcome. 【Text 9】 W: What’s your plan for the summer holiday? M: Nothing much. Do you have any ideas? W: Last summer, I had a valuable experience working as a volunteer in the community hospital. This year I’d like to continue. Do you want to go with me? M: Sounds good. How long did you work there? W: Well, from July 15 to July 31, when the elderly over 55 were given free medical examinations. M: What did you do there? W: Every day I arrived early and organized the people who came over. Then I would help them fill in the form. Leading them to the different departments was also one of my duties. M: I think I’m capable of those. W: Sounds easy, but by the time their examinations were over, I was already bathing in sweat. Everyone there worked in a tight schedule. M: Tiring though it was, we could benefit a lot from the experience. W: I agree with you. So… M: I’d like to go with you. What should I pay attention to? W: You should be patient. Oh, right. You should wear a pair of comfortable shoes, for you have to stand for a long time. 【Text 10】 W: Good morning, everyone. It’s time for our weekly health class. How many of you feel tired all the time? Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands! Doctors recommend that teens get at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night. However, in practice, many teens struggle to make it. This is often due to a conflict between nature and modern life. During our teenage years, our body clocks tend to move forward. This natural change makes us want to go to sleep and wake up much later. However, as society usually demands we get up early, the key is finding a way to fall asleep earlier. Later on in the lesson, we’ll be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first, we’re going to study the 10-3-2-1 sleep rule. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee, and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep, and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly. 1. Sharing space with elegant cafes and world-class bars, a tiny fruit and vegetable stand seems to have been transported from a country road far away. But what makes the stand even more remarkable in the heart of Camden is that payment is on the honor system — customers just throw coins into an old mailbox — and most of the items on offer are priced at £ 1 in a neighborhood where fresh food usually goes for much, much more. The greengrocer with a heart of gold — a Chinese immigrant in her 50s who runs this stand alone — is rarely seen by her grateful customers. Lena Wong rises before dawn to prepare to work in her small plot in Enfield, outside London. Depending on the season, she’ll gather onions, eggplant, green peppers, etc. And she works several overnight shifts every week at a nursing home to supplement her and her husband’s modest salaries. All this started one day as she was selling produce in Enfield, and a young customer said that he barely earned enough to buy food. “I hate the idea of young people walking around hungry,” Lena Wong said. The seed was planted. “I want young people to feel that they’re not forgotten, that they are treasured,” she said. “That not everyone is out for himself. I can make money anytime. Right now, I want to give young people a helping hand.” Sometimes, when she arrives late in the day, customers get a chance to thank her in person. In return, she’s fond of offering botanical sayings that she collected from a life that has had its share of both joy and pain. “Even in a field full of weeds,” Lena Wong likes to say, “you can grow something — if you put in the effort.” 24. What is special about the stand in the quiet alley? A. It is located in an expensive cafe. B. People often take good pictures there. C. It operates on a trust and credit system. D. The goods sold there come from distant places. 25. What can we learn about Lena Wong’s job? A. It requires her to work long hours. B. It pays well to support her family. C. It attracts widespread media attention. D. It focuses on organic produce. 26. Who inspired Lena Wong to help others? A. Her grateful customers. B. A hungry youth. C. Her modest husband. D. A local grocer. 27. What does Lena’s saying in the last paragraph imply? A. Weeds are common in farming. B. Gardening requires great effort. C. Hard work can defeat difficulties. D. Joy and pain are unavoidable in life. C As the planet warms up and oceans rise, extreme weather events are becoming the norm. Getting notified in time to prepare for a disastrous hurricane or heat wave could be the disparity between life and death. Now AI can help. Two studies published in the journal Nature described the benefit of two AI models that could improve weather forecasting. The first AI-based system, developed by the Huawei Cloud team, is known as Pangu-Weather. It was capable of predicting global weather a week in advance. Before it came out, most countries relied on mathematical weather prediction models, which use math formulas to create computer models of the atmosphere and oceans for predicting future weather. What makesPangu-Weather different is that the Pangu-Weather model is deeply trained with the help of 39-year global weather data, preparing it to forecast temperature, pressure, and wind speed. When compared to the mathematical weather prediction method, Pangu-Weather was 10,000 times faster and no less accurate. Pangu-Weather also contains a 3D model, unlike past AI forecasting systems, that allows it to record atmospheric states at different pressure levels to further increase its accuracy. Pangu-Weather can predict weather patterns 5-7 days in advance. However, it can’t forecast precipitation (降水). As precipitation prediction is vital for extreme weather forecasting, a second Nature model, NowcastNet, fills this gap. It can accurately predict rainfall 6 hours ahead, helping meteorologists (气象学家) study weather patterns in real-time more effectively. NowcastNet focuses on detailed, realistic descriptions of extreme rainfall patterns. It uses radar observations from the US and China, as well as deep learning methods, to predict precipitation rates over a 1.6-million-square-mile region of the eastern and central US up to 3 hours in advance. 62 meteorologists from China tested NowcastNet and ranked it first, out of four other leading weather forecasting methods, in reliably predicting heavy rain, which it did 71 percent of the time. While generative AI models have good prospects in weather forecasting, experts point out that replacing existing systems has many challenges. However, in 5-10 years, these models may surprise us. 28. What does the underlined word “disparity” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Difference. B. Relationship. C. Balance. D. Comparison. 29. Which of the following best describes Pangu-Weather? A. Data-driven. B. Multi-functional. C. Theory-based. D. Human-operated. 30. What is an advantage of NowcastNet? A. It reduces radar errors on a large scale. B. It outperforms any other weather model. C. It predicts downpours with high accuracy. D. It covers diverse regions around the globe. 31. What is the text mainly about? A. The impacts of climate change on extreme weather events. B. The introduction to high-tech weather-forecasting models. C. The challenges in using generative AI in weather forecasting. D. The explanation of new measures to protect the environment. D From taking quick shots for social media with a smartphone to patiently waiting for the perfect street moment with a film camera, photography has become part of everyday life. However, there is a common misunderstanding that mobile photography, compared to film photography, reduces creation to a shallow form of photographic note-taking rather than true art. This belief misses a core fact: these two media represent different ways of seeing and creating. Psychology research offers insights into this. Professor Robert Epstein from Harvard University’s Visual Cognition Lab notes, “When we take photos with a phone, our brain is in a ‘rapid capture’ mode; whereas with a film camera, it enters a ‘deliberate composition’ state.” Functional MRI (核磁共振) studies have shown that when using a smartphone, areas of the brain linked to quick decision-making are more active. In contrast, when using a film camera, the networks related to sense of beauty and precise hand control show stronger connectivity. Photography educator David Yorke explains: “With a film camera, you must think through everything before taking the picture — composition, exposure, timing. This forces you to slow down and truly learn to ‘see’.” However, it does not mean that mobile photography cannot produce true art. An experiment in a journal of visual research found that mobile users take an average of 15 times more photos per day than film users. This frequent practice enhances their ability to capture fleeting (转瞬即逝的) moments. Documentary photographer Marina Chen shares this view: “Smartphones have made photography accessible to everyone. Sometimes, the energy in these moments is more valuable than carefully arranged shots.” A truly mature photographer understands that artistic vision requires both: the quick response to the present and the discipline to compose with care. Mobile photography and film photography do not replace each other. Together, they enrich our visual expression and expand our capacity to see the world with clarity and imagination. 32. What is a common misunderstanding about mobile photography? A. It lacks artistic depth. B. It departs from daily life. C. It misses digital creativity. D. It blocks factual recording. 33. What can we learn about film and mobile photography from paragraph 2? A. They need professional insight. B. They depend on instant capture. C. They involve distinct mental processes. D. They reflect different controlling behaviors. 34. What ability does film photography develop according to David Yorke? A. Visual sensitivity. B. Mindful observation. C. Decisive response. D. Emotional engagement. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Brain Science Behind Photography B. Beyond the Moment, Representing the Art C. A Scientific Guide to Better Photography D. Two Modes of Imaging, One Art of Creating 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 There’s just something about Labubu. You hear the sound of opening a blind box, see that cheeky smile and suddenly you’re attracted. But once the excitement fades, you can’t help but wonder, why do we keep chasing more, even when we already have enough? Evolutionary psychology gives us a fascinating answer. A lot of what we do comes from what once helped our ancestors survive. 36 That could mean the difference between thriving (繁荣) and going without. Over generations, we’ve been wired to find joy in having more than we require. Labubu represents a modern form of this instinct (本能). The blind-box model mirrors ancestral uncertainty: investing effort toward an uncertain payoff with the possibility of a rare, high-status “secret” find. The uncertainty of the reward activates dopamine (多巴胺) pathways in the brain. It makes us “want” the experience even when we already “have” enough. 37 38 When collecting remains a source of joy and social connection, it can be adaptive. Many Labubu collectors share mini furniture, and fan-made content. 39 But when over-marketing and rocketing resale prices step in, the whole environment changes. Suddenly, it’s less about the joy of owning something you love and more about showing off or reselling it for profit. In questioning whether hoarding (囤积) is simply collecting gone mad, it becomes clear that human psychology hasn’t fundamentally changed. Social media, over-marketing, and resale culture supercharge ancient drives. The challenge is to keep those drives in balance. 40 Ask yourself: Does it truly spark joy or creativity? In the end, Labubu is more than a toy. It’s a little mirror, reflecting both our ancient instincts and modern anxieties, and showing just how easily a fun hobby can tip into full-blown craze. A. Collect what brings genuine pleasure. B. But how does collecting slip into disorder? C. Buyers don’t know which figure they will get. D. Back then, collecting was about saving tools or food for later use. E. Collecting becomes a problem when possessions damage our daily life. F. This is why collectors keep buying long after they’ve achieved their goal. G. Such are forms of self-expression that enrich rather than mess up our life. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 In every family, there eventually comes a time when the tables turn and the child becomes the one calling the shots. The concept was great, but none of us seventeen-year-olds had any idea what to do. “Maybe we could have a food drive to help the homeless,” John suggested at our Sunday night meeting. “But we have done that many times”, replied Brian with a frown. Ten minutes passed without any proposal good enough to win our hearts. Finally I decided to speak. “Why don’t we think about our project for a few days and then come back with three or four suggestions we can vote on?” Everyone agreed to wait a week before deciding. I knew time was running out to get something going before New Year, but I had no clue what we should do. During the following week, one idea after another ran through my mind, butI was still indecisive. Thursday after school, I wandered into the kitchen as my dad prepared for dinner. Sensing my uneasiness, he asked what troubled me without even looking up. “Well… it…” I let out a long breath. “Our youth group wants to do something for New Year, but we don’t know what to do…” “Hmm.” My dad thought out loud. “There’s a seniors’ home I’ve worked with close to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The residents don’t get out much around New Year with the snow and ice. It might be an idea to take them out to see the New Year lights around here.” I stood still for a few moments thinking of all the spectacular (绚丽的) New Year light displays in our neighborhood. To be honest, I never thought about that, but it might just work. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右: 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Next Sunday evening, our youth group met.
