We spent the rest of that night in my grandparents’ house. I was too scared to fall asleep, though. I didn’t know what lay ahead for us. The next day, my mom brought me a few T-shirts, 2 pairs of jeans given by a friend. Though they didn’t quite fit me, I didn’t care. At least I had some clothes again. Meanwhile, my dad had returned to the burnt house to see what he could find. The only thing he could save was their wedding rings. The plastic box he had put them in that night had melted around them and protected them from the flames. My mom felt miserable and she didn’t get over it for a long time. My dad struggled with the hard times. As the days went on, my dad was able to rent us a house by the side of the road near where our old house had been. Friends and our community continued to donate all they could to help us get back on our feet. There were more clothes, furniture, food, money and even some books for me to read. Looking back now, I am grateful for all we went through that summer, because it taught me so much about love. A Hope Starts Here, and It Continues: Celebrating 15 Years of Sanctuary of Hope About This Event Join Sanctuary (庇护所) of Hope (SOH) as we celebrate 15 years of providing hope, transformation, and sanctuary to young people in Los Angeles. Over three years, this could lead to a weight loss of 26 pounds—simply by sleeping more, the researchers said. A team from the University of Chicago wanted to look at how sleep interacts with obesity and so carried out a clinical trial with 80 adults. Writing in the journal Jama Internal Medicine, they found that young, overweight adults who habitually slept fewer than 6.5 hours a night were able to add an extra 1.2 hours of sleep per night after undergoing counselling to improve their sleeping habits. The results showed that getting more sleep reduced people’s overall intake by an average of 270 calories per day, with some people consuming 500 fewer calories. Dr Esra Tasali, from the University of Chicago’s sleep centre, said the study had not intended to look at weight loss. “But even within just two weeks, we have quantified evidence showing a decrease in caloric intake and a negative energy balance—caloric intake is less than calories burned.” she said. “If healthy sleep habits are kept over longer period. this would lead to clinically important weight loss over time. Many people are working hard to find ways to decrease their caloric intake to lose weight—well, just by sleeping more, you may be able to reduce it considerably. The study did not attempt to restrict people’s diets. Instead, they slept in their own beds, tracked their sleep with wearable devices, and otherwise followed a normal lifestyle without any instructions on diet or exercise. Dr Tasali said that limiting the use of devices such as mobile phones before bedtime helped people get more sleep. She added. “We saw that after just a single sleep counselling session. participants could change their bedtime habits enough to lead to an increase in sleep time.” 28. Why did the researchers carry out the study? A. To find how to reduce weight. B. To know the proper sleep time. C. To learn about healthy sleep habits. D. To study the link between sleep and obesity. 29. What’s Dr Tasali’s attitude to the findings of the study? A. Doubtful. B. Confident. C. Negative. D. Ambiguous. 30. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Participants should go on a restricted diet and do more exercise. B. Limiting the use of digital devices is the best way to get enough sleep. C. Participants tracked their sleep without disturbing their normal lifestyle. D. A single sleep counselling session is useless for participants to change. 31. What’s the best title of the text? A. A Strange Way to Lose Your Weight B. Young and Overweight Adults Need More Sleep C. Forming a Regular Sleep Habit Is Good for Your Health D. Cut 270 Calories by Sleeping for an Extra Hour Every Night 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。研究发现每天多睡一小时可以消耗更多的卡路里。文章介绍了研究开展的过程以及研究的相关发现。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“A team from the University of Chicago wanted to look at how sleep interacts with obesity and so carried out a clinical trial with 80 adults.(芝加哥大学的一个研究小组想了解睡眠与肥胖之间的相互作用,因此对80名成年人进行了一项临床试验)”可知,进行这项研究是为了研究睡眠和肥胖之间的联系。故选D。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“But even within just two weeks, we have quantified evidence showing a decrease in caloric intake and a negative energy balance—caloric intake is less than calories burned.(但即使在短短两周内,我们已经有量化的证据表明热量摄入的减少和负能量平衡——热量摄入少于卡路里燃烧)”可知,Dr Tasali对于实验结果是非常自信的。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Instead, they slept in their own beds, tracked their sleep with wearable devices, and otherwise followed a normal lifestyle without any instructions on diet or exercise.(相反,他们睡在自己的床上,用可穿戴设备记录自己的睡眠情况,在其他情况下按照正常的生活方式生活,没有任何饮食或锻炼方面的指导)”可推知,参与者在不影响他们正常生活方式的情况下跟踪他们的睡眠。故选C。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“An hour’s extra sleep a night can shave 270 calories off people’s daily diets, new research suggests—the equivalent of around three chocolate digestive biscuits. Over three years, this could lead to a weight loss of 26 pounds—simply by sleeping more, the researchers said.(一项最新研究表明,每晚多睡一小时可以减少人们每日摄入的270卡路里热量——大约相当于三块巧克力消化饼干。研究人员说,三年后,只要多睡一会儿,就能减掉26磅的体重)”结合文章介绍了研究开展的过程以及研究的相关发现。故D选项“每天晚上睡一个小时减少270卡路里”最符合文章标题。故选D。 D In my childhood, my parents would take me to watch games. I loved the excitement I would feel when we went to watch these events, especially when the scores were close until the very end of the game. My meaningful attempt at sports began with T-ball at the age of three, progressed to the basketball court at six, and finally turned into a firm devotion to the game of baseball from the age of eight onward. One of my most memorable moments was at the World Series when I was eleven and played on the Texas Rattlers. The July heat was unbearable. It was the semi-final game. Sweating like a pig, we ran into the dugout for our last at-bat (上场击球); we were down one run now. I was the second hitter and captain of the team, and I was ready for this moment. In the next few seconds, I had the chance to show my strength as a hitter and my ability to be a leader under pressure by hitting a home run! We carried the day! As the team captain, I remember the time I had to give a speech to my team because we had lost an important game. I was nervous, but I knew it was my responsibility to cheer my team up when they were cast down. This experience has shaped my mind, making me become more independent, so I’m obtaining the ability to talk like a leader in front of my team and a group. Sports get it through my head that you can’t win at everything in life all the time. On and of the field, I am more iron-willed, disciplined (遵守纪律的) and respectful, and a better leader. I have had so many awesome experiences through sports, which have taught me much and prepared me for the future. The memories of all the trips and diverse experiences I have had will be with me for a lifetime. 32. What can we learn about the author from the first paragraph? A. He often switched sports. B. He was a gifted child in sports. C. He had a busy childhood. D. He was fond of sports from childhood. 33. How did the author feel during the semi-final at the World Series? A. Stressed and tired. B. Proud and confident. C. Unbearable and down. D. Surprised and energetic. 34. What was tough for the author according to paragraph 3? A. Leading his team to face failure. B. Giving a speech before the team. C. Improving his leadership qualities. D. Overcoming his own nervousness. 35. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Interesting Life of Sports B. Life Lessons from Sports C. Deep Affection for Sports D. Special Moments in Sports 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. A 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者通过体育运动获得的人生感悟。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“In my childhood, my parents would take me to watch games. (在我的童年时代,我的父母会带我去看比赛。我喜欢当我们去看这些比赛时所感受到的兴奋,尤其是当比分在最后关头仍然不相上下的时候。我三岁的时候,就开始有意义地尝试体育运动,从儿童棒球开始,六岁时开始打篮球,从八岁开始,我就对棒球产生了浓厚的兴趣。)”可推知,作者自幼就喜爱体育运动。故选D。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“One of my most memorable moments was at the World Series when I was eleven and played on the Texas Rattlers. 根据第三段“As the team captain, I remember the time I had to give a speech to my team because we had lost an important game. (作为队长,我记得有一次我不得不给我的球队演讲,因为我们输掉了一场重要的比赛。我很紧张,但我知道,当我的团队情绪低落时,我有责任让他们振作起来。这段经历塑造了我的思想,让我变得更加独立,所以我获得了在团队和团队面前像领导者一样说话的能力。体育运动让我明白,你不可能一直在生活中赢得一切。)”可知,作者认为困难的事是带领球队勇敢面对失败。故选A。 Can Skipping Dinner Help You Lose Weight? If your phone needs a software upgrade, you would likely run the operation when its fully charged. ____36____ A new study finds human energy systems operate in a similar fashion: Our metabolisms likely function best in the morning when our bodies are fresh and fully charged. Specifically, people who eat larger breakfasts and adopt an 18-hour overnight fast, say from 1 pm to 7 am, have the lowest body weights. ____37____ Contrary to the popular belief, these extended overnight fasts seem to help increase metabolic function. Lead author Dr Hana Kahleova finds meals consumed in the evening, compared to those eaten in the morning, result in higher blood sugar, which happens when insulin cannot process glucose into energy. ____38____ What does this mean for you? Depending on your goals and health status, you may consider rearranging your meals. If you're looking to lose 10 pounds, the 18- to 19-hour overnight fast might work well for you. ____39____ So you could experiment with skipping one meal each day. ____40____ People who maintain highly active lifestyles, for instance, and need adequate fuel to power morning runs or help muscle fibers recover from intense evening workouts like weightlifting might not benefit. Still, the concept provides an insight into how our bodies use fuel efficiently. A. Of course, this approach isn't for everyone. B. So, let's say you consume 1,500 to 1,800 calories a day. C. Those who ate later in the day, after 6 pm, had higher body weights. D. Otherwise, your phone and its software would take longer to sync. E. This means eating a larger breakfast, a medium-sized lunch and no dinner. F. Like a block in a machine extra glucose slows our metabolic process down. G. The advice to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar has new science behind it. 【答案】36. D 37. C 38. F 39. E 40. A 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要解释了不吃晚餐是否可以减肥的问题,一项新的研究发现,人类能量系统的运作方式与此类似:我们的新陈代谢可能在早晨运转最佳,此时我们的身体充满活力。且实行18个小时夜间禁食的人,比如从下午1点到早上7点,体重最低。 【36题详解】 根据上文“If your phone needs a software upgrade, you would likely run the operation when its fully charged.(如果你的手机需要软件升级,你可能会在充满电的时候运行该操作)”以及后文“A new study finds human energy systems operate in a similar fashion: Our metabolisms likely function best in the morning when our bodies are fresh and fully charged.(一项新的研究发现,人类的能量系统以类似的方式运作:我们的新陈代谢可能在早晨运转最佳,当我们的身体充满活力和能量时)”可知,上文提到在手机充满电的时候进行软件升级,可知本句承接上文说明这一做法的原因:否则,你的手机和它的软件同步需要更长的时间,D选项中software对应上文中software。故D选项“否则,你的手机和它的软件同步需要更长的时间”符合语境,故选D。 【37题详解】 根据上文“Specifically, people who eat larger breakfasts and adopt an 18-hour overnight fast, say from 1 pm to 7 am, have the lowest body weights.(具体来说,那些早餐吃得多,并实行18个小时夜间禁食的人,比如从下午1点到早上7点,体重最低)”可知,上文提到了体重最低的情况,本句为本段最后一句,应说明体重最高的人的饮食习惯。故C选项“那些在晚上6点以后吃东西的人体重更高”符合语境,故选C。 【38题详解】 根据上文“Contrary to the popular belief, these extended overnight fasts seem to help increase metabolic function. Lead author Dr Hana Kahleova finds meals consumed in the evening, compared to those eaten in the morning, result in higher blood sugar, which happens when insulin cannot process glucose into energy.(与普遍的看法相反,这些延长的夜间禁食似乎有助于提高新陈代谢功能。 【39题详解】 根据上文“What does this mean for you? Depending on your goals and health status, you may consider rearranging your meals. If you're looking to lose 10 pounds, the 18- to 19-hour overnight fast might work well for you.(这对你来说意味着什么?根据你的目标和健康状况,你可以考虑重新安排你的饮食。如果你想减掉10磅,18到19个小时的夜间禁食可能对你很有效)”可知,上文提到了18到19个小时的夜间禁食有助于减肥,夜间禁食即晚餐不吃,故E选项“这意味着早餐吃得多一点,午餐吃中份,晚餐不吃”符合语境,故选E。 【40题详解】 根据后文“People who maintain highly active lifestyles, for instance, and need adequate fuel to power morning runs or help muscle fibers recover from intense evening workouts like weightlifting might not benefit. Still, the concept provides an insight into how our bodies use fuel efficiently.(例如,那些保持高度活跃生活方式的人,需要充足的燃料来为晨跑提供动力,或者帮助肌肉纤维从举重等晚间紧张锻炼中恢复过来,可能不会受益。尽管如此,这个概念提供了一个洞察我们的身体如何有效地使用燃料)”可知,后文举例说明了不会从这一方法中受益的人群,可见这个方法不适用于所有人。故A选项“当然,这种方法并不适用于所有人”符合语境,故选A。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) On a rainy afternoon, I sat in a cozy coffee shop, enjoying a Latte. Firstly, community service should be a graduation requirement because it benefits society and promotes students’ growth. By volunteering, students develop empathy and social responsibility, which are crucial for personal development. Additionally, they gain invaluable skills like teamwork and problem-solving. If schools mandate community service, students will contribute more to their communities. At night, we’d slip out to the roof to talk about dogs after our parents went to bed. One summer night, as we sat together on the roof, Josie saw something. “What’s that?” She pointed down toward a dark shadow on our driveway. I followed her finger and saw a big, black dog with long, shaggy hair. We climbed down the roof. Josie made a little kissing noise and held out her hand. The dog approached slowly. When it was close enough to pet, I petted it gently. It was so skinny that I could just feel every bone, and its fur was messy and full of dirt. It seemed to be a homeless dog. We decided to bring it some food. I slid into the kitchen to fill a bowl with milk and a couple of raw eggs. As soon as the dog finished, it disappeared into the bushes. The next day, we used all our pocket money to buy dog food, including two cans of Woof Buddies, a small bag of kibble (狗粮), and beef tailbones. We hid the food as we were afraid our parents wouldn’t approve of us feeding a homeless dog. That night, as soon as we set a plate down, the dog appeared almost as if from nowhere. It nosed the food, but for some reason the dog wouldn’t eat it. “Come on,” I said. “Let’s leave the dog alone and see what happens.” So we went in and hid to see. Unexpectedly, it grabbed the plate in its mouth and ran away. By the time we rushed back outside, the dog and the food were long gone. This went on a long time — four or five nights, maybe. The most unusual thing was that even though the dog kept taking the food, it didn’t seem to be putting on any weight. Instead, it was getting even skinnier. Then came that special night. The dog came, but this time it barked (犬吠) at us, whined (哀叫), and ran back and forth. I ran my hand through its fur, “What’s it? What do you want?” 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: The dog barked again, ran toward the bushes, and turned to see if we were following. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Seeing this, we decided to take it and its babies home together. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 It barked again, ran toward the bushes, and turned to see if we were following. We chased it closely. We ran across the field, darted between trees, threaded our way into another bush. There the dog stopped and stood perfectly still, panting and wagging its tail. Seeing that we were catching up, it whined, and disappeared through a dark hole in the wall of leaves and branches. We followed and broke through into a little clearing and could hardly believe what we’d found. At our feet lay four puppies, whining weakly. Bones and plates littered their small nest. The mother dog was nearby, feeble and exhausted. Obviously, it had saved all the food for its puppies but that was still far from enough. Seeing this, we decided to take it and its babies home together. We gently gathered the puppies, with the mother dog following closely, her eyes filled with trust. Fortunately, when we explained everything to our parents, they were understanding and supportive. We contacted an animal shelter, which helped find loving homes for the puppies nearby. And as for the brave mother dog, she became our cherished pet, a testament to love and sacrifice. 词汇激活 行为类 ①追赶:chase closely/run after quickly ②抱起:gently gather/pick up carefully ③联系:contact/get in touch with 情绪类 ①虚弱:feeble/weak ②理解:understanding/comprehending 【点睛】【高分句型1】Seeing that we were catching up, it whined, and disappeared through a dark hole in the wall of leaves and branches.(运用了现在分词作状语和that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】We followed and broke through into a little clearing and could hardly believe what we’d found.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。Watch out. Listen to the next question. In the summer of my eleven year, our house burned to the ground at midnight. Thankfully, my mom, dad, two brothers and die escaped along with our dog. We spent the rest of that night in my grandparents house. I was too scared to fall asleep, though I didn't know what lay ahead for us. The next day, my mom brought me a few t shirts and two pairs of genes given by a friend, though they didn't quite fit me. I didn't care. At least I had some clothes again. Meanwhile, my dad had returned to the burn house to see what he could find. The only thing he could save was their wedding rings. The plastic box he had put them in that night had melted around them and protected them from the flames. My mom felt miserable and SHE didn't yet. Over IT for a long time, my dad struggled with the hard times. As the days went on, my dad was able to rent as a house by the side of the road near where old house have been friends and our community continued to donate all they could to help us get back on our feet. There were more clothes, furniture, food, money and even some books for me to read. Looking back now, I am grateful for all we went through that summer because he taught me so much about love. Cut 270 Calories by Sleeping for an Extra Hour Every Night D In my childhood, my parents would take me to watch games. Special Moments in Sports 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Can Skipping Dinner Help You Lose Weight? E. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
