Frequently Asked Questions about London Theatres
London has a world - leading theatre scene, and it's particularly strong when it comes to family shows. Read the FAQ to make your family theatre trip a pleasant one.
Can children go to all theatres?
Most shows are suitable for people aged 12 or older. Some productions might have material that is too mature for younger theatregoers. However, there are also fantastic family shows which are appropriate for all ages, or which are specifically aimed at kids.
Are children booster seats(增高座椅) available?
Some theatres, though not all, provide booster seats - for example, Nederlander theatres rent height - adjustable seats for £1 if you ask a member of staff. They are available on a first - come, first - served basis.(先到先得)Some venues(场所) will also have height restrictions(限制) so that audience sitting behind you can still see.
Are there frequent breaks throughout the duration of a performance?
If it's a show for a general audience, there will usually be one or two intervals based on the running time. Most shows designed specifically for younger audiences will have short running times, like an hour or
less.
Can I bring my own snacks and drinks into the theatre? Most theatres won't allow you to bring your own snacks and drinks. They sell food and drink in the theatre and that's part of how they bring in profit(利润). If you have concerns about dietary requirements, you can contact the theatre beforehand to make arrangements.

Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard. In high school, you have 4 minutes to get to your next class. My high school is very big and those 4 minutes to go from one class to another really isn't a lot of time. Today I had to go from one end of the building to the other to get from science class to math class. I wanted to go to my locker first and leave my science book there, but that took time. I was worried about being late, and I was. The math teacher said, "Just be on time tomorrow, or you'll have detention (留校)."
After math, I went to art class. I like my art class a lot because I get to create things. The teacher there showed us how to make portraits (肖像). He explained, "A portrait is a way of communicating
with a person. It does not just show how the person looks but what is important to understand the person.” We just did drawings today, but I know it's going to be great. I like drawing.
I like my English class, too. I think the teacher is really supportive. Today we wrote about ourselves. The teacher said to just write what you think, and we'll pay attention to punctuation (标点) later. We could write a paragraph or a poem, and I wrote a poem about myself. I thought it was a good poem, and the teacher said I had used good images to communicate my feelings.
Lunch was very hurried. I arrived at the dining room with 12 minutes to eat. I sat with people I didn't know, and everyone was eating quickly. After lunch I signed up for a computer club. I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.

B. He pointed out the author’s mistake.
C. He asked the author to check punctuation.
D. He encouraged the author to introduce himself.
27. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. Learn useful skills in high school B. My new teachers in high school
C. Make plans for high school life D. My first day in high school
From the day a person opens his or her eye in this world to the point when success surrounds them, curiosity is something that never leaves their sides. It stays with them and instills (灌输) in them a sense of exploration; it pushes them to take risks, and uncover the hidden mystery. It is a powerful quality as it helps people develop an understanding of different aspects of the world.
Many parents get annoyed when their children ask too many questions. They do not realize that by not responding (回应) to the questions and curiosity of these little ones, it might take away their chances to learn new things. Learning is every individual’s right, and no one can take away one’s eagerness to explore, discover, and learn new things.
The former president of the United States, Roosevelt, once said, “I think, at a child’s birth if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to give it the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity.” If a child asks too many questions out of curiosity, parents must answer the questions with patience. The way they respond will determine(决定) whether a child grows up to be a smart learner and an explorer or not.
While some parents take these matters lightly, there are some who attend to the needs of their young ones’ hunger to learn smartly. Regina, a life coach and public speaker, instead of losing her calm on her daughter’s nature to frequently question everything, she tried to respond to her daughter with love and affection (关爱). Not only did she answer all her daughter’s questions, but she started thinking of other curious kids out there who were eager to discover the hidden secrets of this world.
28. What will happen if children get no response to their questions?
A. They’ll be less patient.
B. They’ll learn more smartly.
C. They’ll likely take adventures.
D. They'll lose opportunities to learn new things.
29. Why does the author mention President Roosevelt's words?
A. To show children are gifted. B. To state patience is necessary.
C. To stress curiosity is important. D To suggest parents be understanding.
30. What does the underlined phrase "attend to" in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Take care of
B. Give way to
C. Get tired of D Make use of
31. What will be most probably talked about in the following part of the passage?
A. Regina became a life coach B. Regina explored new things.
C. Regina helped other curious kids. D. Regina answered her daughter's questions.
D
Older women who walk a little over three kilometers each day might live longer than less active women of the same age, a new study suggests.
Many Americans hoping to stay healthy set a daily goal of 10, 000 steps, or about eight kilometers. They often have this goal because they are wearing electronic devices(电子设备) which set that target, note(指出) researchers in the United States. Their findings appeared recently in the publication JAMA Internal Medicine.
But it is not clear how much intensity(强度) or speed matter when counting the health benefits of every step, the researchers write. They add that 10,000 steps per day might not be the right goal for everyone.
For the study, researchers observed 17,000 women, all in their early 70s. They asked the women to wear accelerometers(加速度计) for at least four days. Accelerometers are small devices that measure
the number of steps and the intensity of movement. The researchers followed up with the women much later, around 4.3 years later, on average. Since the beginning of the study, 504 women had died. Compared to women who took no more than 2, 718 steps daily, the women who took at least 4,363 steps per day were 41 percent less likely to die.
"Even a modest(适中的) amount of steps is associated with(与…有关) lower death rates, "said I-Min Lee, the lead writer of a report on the study. "The rate of stepping did not matter in these older women: it was the number of steps that mattered.
The study had a few limitations(局限性). For example, the researchers only measured women's movements once, at the start of the study period. It is possible that the women's behaviors changed over time. Still, the results are "good news for older adults who may have difficulty walking at faster paces, "said Keith Diaz, a researcher at Columbia University. He was not involved in(参与) the study.
"Any walking is better than nothing, " Diaz said by email. "With even small amounts of walking, your risk of death will be sharply reduced "For those who have difficulty walking, other research shows that any form of aerobic(有氧的) activity provides health benefits," he added. "Swimming, bicycling or any form of activity that is continuous in nature will provide health benefits.
32. What conclusion can we come to from the text?
A. People who walk about 10,000 steps can live longer.
B. 10,000 steps per day might be the right goal for people.
C. The more steps one walks per day, the longer life he may live.
D. The number of steps is important for a long life among older women.
33. How is paragraph 4 mainly developed?
A. By giving examples. B. By comparison.
C. By listing statistics. D. By explaining reasons.
34. What can be learned from what Diaz said?
A. People who walk fast will get more health benefits.
B. If people have a habit of walking, the risk of death will be reduced.
C. People with walking difficulty can not benefit from activities
D. Activities such as swimming and bicycling are not as beneficial as walking.
35. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A medical journal B. A news report.
C. A magazine about fashion. D. A traveler brochure.

Dear Paul,
I quite understand how you feel now. It is really common to face such a conflict between your interest and your parents' expectations, so there is no need to feel upset. Here are some suggestions for you.
First of all, you can have a calm talk with your parents, explaining that painting is your real passion and joining the painting club will help you develop your creativity and reduce study pressure. Besides, you can promise them that you will balance your study and club activities well, and make sure to achieve satisfying academic results. You can even show them your paintings to let them know how much you love painting and how well you can do it.
I hope my advice will be helpful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
