In a mountain village, 14-year-old Hannah often spent hours in the forests exploring new things while others were doing their robotic daily tasks. One rainy afternoon, she found an old house with broken windows. Though nervous, she walked quietly and took a short breath—the dusty room was full of books! She jumped up and down with joy.
Hannah’s friends laughed when she shared her find. “Books? How boring!” they said. Hurt but determined, Hannah kept reading books and was so encouraged by doing it every night. The stories taught her about the power of love, courage and kindness. She returned to the house daily, cleaning the house secretly. When villagers asked about her cuts and dust-covered clothes, she simply smiled.
Although she knew it would be a difficult journey to share stories with the people in the village, she started telling stories in the fixed house. Her best friend Sanuki came first. As Hannah read aloud, her voice brought characters to life. Slowly, more neighbors joined. Children’s laughter replaced the house’s silence. Soon, villagers brought chairs and lamps, turning the space into a comfortable reading room.
Years later, the house became the village library. The once-laughing friends helped organize book clubs. Hannah taught others to read throughout her life and everyone admired her. Travelers from different places came to listen to her stories.

第二段提到“Hurt but determined, Hannah kept reading books and was so encouraged by doing it every night.”
第三段提到“She returned to the house daily, cleaning the house secretly.” Children’s laughter replaced the house’s silence. Soon, villagers brought chairs and lamps, turning the space into a comfortable reading room.”对应②;第四段提到“Years later, the house became the village library. The once-laughing friends helped organize book clubs. Hannah taught others to read throughout her life and everyone admired her. Travelers from different places came to listen to her stories.”对应③;第一段提到“One rainy afternoon, she found an old house with broken windows. Though nervous, she walked quietly and took a short breath—the dusty room was full of books!”
(C)
①Chimpanzees are well-known for their amazing ability to use tools to find and get food. A new study shows that chimpanzees can teach each other how to make tools, and these useful skills can get better as time passes. Scientists call this special ability “cumulative culture”.
②For this study, scientists studied 240 chimpanzees living in 35 different places across Africa. They also looked at the chimps’ genes (基因) to find out how chimps from different areas were related to each other.
③Most of the chimps used only simple tools or no tools at all. However, some chimps could do much more difficult work. For example, a chimp might use a stick to dig a hole, then turn a plant stem into a brush-like tool to get its food out of the hole. The study found that these skilled chimps probably share more genes with each other than those who used simple tools or no tools.
④Mother chimps seem to play a very important role in spreading tool use. They often leave their old groups and join new ones to find mates. The study found that mother chimps moved between places with simple tools and places with complex (复杂的) types of those tools. This shows that they teach their tool skills to their new groups. Then other chimps in the group add to those ways, making them better over time.
⑤“It shows that complex tools can be learned and shared between groups—which is very surprising and exciting,” said a scientist Cassandra Gunasekaram. This kind of cumulative culture is common among humans, but it had not been recorded in animals before.
⑥_________ Claudio Tennie from a German university thinks it is possible that each group of chimps developed these complex skills all by themselves. He says people don’t realize how clever these chimps really are!
51. What does “cumulative culture” in paragraph 1 mean in this passage?
A. Sharing useful skills with groups. B. Learning the same old tools for long.
C. Spreading and improving these skills. D. Learning everything without help from others.
52. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. Scientists studied 240 chimpanzees living in America.
B. Most chimps in the study can do difficult work with tools.
C. Mother chimps may play an important part in teaching tool skills.
D. Claudio Tennie thinks that chimps learn their skills from humans.
53. Which sentence below can be put into “_________”?
A. However, not all scientists agree.
B. Many scientists share the same idea.
C. Most of the chimps are as clever as humans.
D. But chimps do not like learning from others.
54. What is the structure (结构) of the passage?
A. ①②/③④/⑤⑥ B. ①/②③④/⑤⑥ C. ①②/③④⑤/⑥ D. ①/②③④⑤/⑥
55. What is the purpose (目的) of writing this passage?
A. To tell us how chimps get food with tools B. To show differences between chimps and humans
C. To teach us how to make tools like chimps D. To introduce a study about chimpanzees’ tool skills
C 52. C 53. A 54. B 55. D
第一段提到:“Scientists call this special ability ‘cumulative culture’. A new study shows that chimpanzees can teach each other how to make tools, and these useful skills can get better as time passes.”,说明“cumulative culture”指的是黑猩猩之间相互传授制作工具的方法,且这些有用的技能会随着时间推移而提升,也就是传播和改进这些技能。
第四段提到:“Mother chimps seem to play a very important role in spreading tool use.”,说明母黑猩猩在传播工具使用方面可能起着重要作用,C选项正确。
