Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so that you forget the time? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seemed to be away.
Most of us have ever had this experience. This special state (状态) of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely focus on (关注) the task before us so that nothing else seems to matter.
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is not challenging and doesn’t need a lot of skills, we probably feel bored with it. But facing a challenging task without the necessary skills could easily cause worry. He finally found out that when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens.

Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so that you forget the time? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seemed to be away.
Most of us have ever had this experience. This special state (状态) of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely focus on (关注) the task before us so that nothing else seems to matter.
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is not challenging and doesn’t need a lot of skills, we probably feel bored with it. But facing a challenging task without the necessary skills could easily cause worry. He finally found out that when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens.
