教学目标
通过本课时的学习,学生能够
1. 获取和梳理志愿者在冬残奥会中的服务内容、工作意义和个人感悟等关键信息,形成对志愿服务和体育精神的结构化理解;
2. 运用语篇中与志愿服务、人物品质相关的词汇和表达,描述志愿者的工作经历及其体现的精神品质;
3. 结合自身实际,谈论参与社会服务的意义和价值,理解尊重与互助的重要性,培养社会责任感和乐于助人的品质。
教学内容
教学重点:
1. 获取和梳理志愿者在冬残奥会中的服务内容、工作意义和个人感悟等关键信息,形成对志愿服务和体育精神的结构化理解;
2. 运用语篇中与志愿服务、人物品质相关的词汇和表达,描述志愿者的工作经历及其体现的精神品质。
教学难点:
结合自身实际,谈论参与社会服务的意义和价值,理解尊重与互助的重要性,培养社会责任感和乐于助人的品质。
教学过程
Step 1 Revision
Have students recall who is in need of help and talk about who has the ability to help them.
Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Have students talk about their volunteering experience or plans.
2. Have students talk about what they think of volunteering.
Step 3 While-reading
1. Have students read the rubrics and view the illustrations.
(1) Read the rubrics and find out the genre and the main idea of the article.
(2) View the illustrations and say what is special about the Paralympics.
2. Have students read the title of the article and predict what the story is about based on some key words given, like who, what, why and how.
3. Have students read for the structure of the article by matching the main idea with each paragraph.
4. Have students read Paragraph 1 and answer the following questions:
(1) What is Liu Ming?
(2) How did he feel when he volunteered for the Paralympics?
(3) How does he feel about his volunteering experience now?
5. Have students read Paragraph 2 and complete mind maps as follows.
6. Have students read Paragraph 3 and
(1) complete a table as follows;
(2) think further about the problems Liu Ming faced during the Paralympics and what Liu Ming learned from his volunteering experience.
7. Have students read Paragraph 4 and
(1) draw a mind map;
(2) think about the following questions:
What can the volunteers learn from the athletes?
What can the volunteers learn from other volunteers?
How may the volunteers feel about making the Paralympics a great success?
8. Have students read Paragraph 5 and find out two words about volunteers and athletes and then think about what the Paralympics mean to both volunteers and athletes.
Step 4 Post-reading
1. Have students explain “Why does Liu Ming think the experience is amazing?” after reading the article.
2. Have students analyze the structure of a news feature to better understand it.
3. Have students make up a conversation to interview Liu Ming.
4. Have students work as a group and make a poster for a voluntary team for the 2028 Paralympic Summer Games.
Step 5 Homework

Write a short article about your understanding of working as a volunteer.
