内容正文:

答案 I. Listening Comprehension Section A 1. M: I’ve written a poem for Cathy. W: Nah, I’ll give you fifty dollars not to do this. Q: What does the woman mean? (B) 1. W: Tom, I heard that you had moved into a new flat. Didn’t you like your old one? M: Yes, I did. But my neighbours kept bothering me with small matters. Q: Why did Tom move into a new flat? (C) 1. M: Here we are! Oh, no. The shop is closed for lunch from 12:00 to 13:00. What time is it now? W: It’s a quarter past 12. Q: How long must the speakers wait? (D) 1. W: Good morning! Room service? Could you send up something to eat? M: OK. The minimum charge for any first order is two dollars. What would you like? Q: Where is the conversation most probably taking place? (B) 1. M: Do you remember the car accident happening last month when we passed by? W: Yes, it’s reported that two people were killed and three were injured. Q: What are the two speakers talking about? (C) 1. W: And now, Mr. Smith, could you give us a little bit about your feelings? M: Well, being a part of you is a proud thing to me and please treat me as a friend rather than a leader. Q: What’s the relationship between the two speakers? (A) 1. M: It would be easier to get around if you have a driver’s license. W: Traffic rules are too complicated to me. And there are a lot of reasons to use public transportation. Q: What can we learn from the conversation? (A) 1. M: The Simpsons family have moved to a farm. W: Yes. They now have their own eggs and milk. Q: What do the Simpsons raise on the farm? (C) 1. M: Jack said he was badly in need of the job. How about it now? W: He turned it down because he didn’t like the double shifts. Q: Why did Jack turn down the job? (D) 1. W: That test is supposed to be easy. M: Not many students do well in it, though, do they? Q: What does the man think about the test? (D) Section B Directions: In Section B, you will hear two short passages and one longer conversation, and you will be asked several questions on each of the passages and the conversation. The passages and the conversation will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard. Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. When my family moved to America from a small village in Guangdong, China, we brought not only our luggage, but also our village rules, customs and culture. One of the rules is that young people should always respect elders. Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment in the United States. I had a part-time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. Once, when I was serving food to a middle-aged couple, the wife asked me how the food could be served so quickly. I told her that I had made sure they got their food quickly because I always respect the elderly. As soon as I said that, her face showed great displeasure. My manager, who happened to hear what I said, took me aside and gave me a long lecture about how sensitive Americans are and how they dislike the description “old”. I then walked back to the table and apologized to the wife. After the couple heard my reason, they understood that the problem was caused by cultural differences, so they laughed and were no longer angry. In the United States, people think “growing old” is a problem since “old” shows that a person is going to retire or that the body is not working well. Here many people try to keep themselves away from growing old by doing exercises or jogging, and women put on makeup, hoping to look young. When I told the couple in the restaurant that I respected the elderly, they got angry because this caused them to feel they had failed to stay young. I had told them something they didn’t want to hear. After that, I changed the way I had been with older people. It is not that I don’t respect them anymore; I still respect them, but now I don’t show my feelings through words. Questions: 11. Why did the speaker bring the couple their food very fast? (B) 12. What happened to the speaker after this experience? (D) 13. Which of the following statements is true? (C) Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage For many well-educated, rich Chinese travellers, buying a copy of Lonely Planet is the first task before taking a vacation abroad. Founded in 1973, Lonely Planet is the biggest guidebook series in the US, UK, and Australia. It’s published in 11 languages including Chinese. But when the BBC confirmed on March 19 that it had sold the entire Lonely Planet series to American billionaire at a significant financial loss, many commented that the deal signified the final song for the printed guidebook. The rise of the Internet and the popularity of smartphones has become a burden on the print media. Why would a traveller bring a heavy guidebook when he can download its digital content to his smartphone in an instant? Furthermore, alternative and free travel content is readily available on the Internet, from Wikivoyage to Trip Advisor to blogs written by amateur travel writers. “If you’re in your 20s or 30s, the first place you’re going to go for travel information is a social network,” said Howard Blumenthal, who writes the Digital Insider blog. With so many people contributing content, you don’t have to go to Fodor’s to get hotel information because there’s Trip Advisor and its competitors. But the Internet is not the only reason that guidebooks are in decline. Kevin Rushby, author of four travel books said that the main problem with the guidebook is that it has a comprehensiveness that can kill any sense of personal exploration. Questions: 14. What did the sale of Lonely Planet mean? (B) 15. What is the first source of travel information for young people? (A) 16. What is the main problem of travel guidebooks? (B) Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation M: Hello. W: May I speak to Daniel, please? M: Speaking. W: Hi. My name is Betty. And I’m calling about the room for rent. I saw your ad at the campus housing office. M: Oh, right. OK. Are you a student? W: Well, I’m planning to start college in English in March. M: I see. Where are you living now? W: I’ve been living in a house with other students, but I don’t like it then. M: Why? What’s the problem? W: Well. First of all, it’s really noisy. And it’s not very clean. I need a place that’s cleaner and more private. M: Well. It’s really quiet here. W: By the way, who’s Jeff? His name is also in the ad. M: He’s my cousin. He’s a musician, but he also takes classes in computer programming. He’s really easy to live with. W: OK. Is the neighbourhood safe? M: Oh, sure. This area’s crime rate is the lowest in the city. W: Well, it sounds really nice. When can I come by and have a look? M: Can you make it this evening around five. Then you can meet Jeff, too. W: OK, five o’clock is good. What’s the address? M: It’s 5743 Sunrise Avenue. W: OK. See you later. M: See you. Questions: 17. Where did Betty see Daniel’s ad? (B) 18. What does Betty major in? (D) 19. What’s Betty’s expectations of the new place? (C) 20. What can we infer from the conversation? (A) II. VI. Guided Writing Dear editors, I’m Li Hua, a Senior One student from Mingqi High School. Knowing that your column Youth Voices is collecting articles about role models, I’m writing to share my opinions sincerely. In my eyes, a true role model is not someone famous merely for reputation. Instead, they should own valuable qualities: strong perseverance in the face of difficulties, selflessness to serve others, and a humble attitude towards achievements. They hold firm beliefs, keep working hard quietly, and dedicate themselves to benefiting society without seeking fame. Tu Youyou is the most impressive role model for me. She committed herself to medical research all her life. Under poor experimental conditions and countless failed attempts, she never lost heart or gave up. With great patience and determination, she finally discovered artemisinin, which has saved millions of lives worldwide. Her devotion, persistence and sense of mission are truly admirable. A Cecilia Chiang, the chef and restaurant owner, was greatly known for introducing regional Chinese dishes to the United States. She helped change the way Americans think about Chinese cooking. Chiang was born into a wealthy Shanghai family with two full-time chefs—one from the north and one from the south. In 1949 her family settled in Tokyo, opening a restaurant called the Forbidden City. But it was a 1960 trip in San Francisco that set Chiang on her dramatic journey to cooking fame. She was both shocked and amused by the food most Americans considered to be Chinese. “They think chop suey(杂烩) is the only thing we have in China,” she said with a laugh. “What a shame.” So Chiang was determined to open a high-end Chinese restaurant that served authentic Chinese food. “Everybody said, ‘You cannot make it. You cannot speak English. You don’t know anything.’” she recalled. In 1961 then, Chiang opened the Mandarin. The restaurant wasn’t immediately successful. About a year after opening, the Mandarin received a mention from the San Francisco Chronicle (旧金山纪事报). The effect of the powerful writer’s positive comment was immediate. Tourists, dignitaries and celebrities(达官显贵)—from Mae West to John Lennon—flooded into the Mandarin for then -unfamiliar food like tea, smoked duck, twice cooked pork. Though the Mandarin was closed years later, Cecilia Chiang’s DNA can be found all over American Chinese food. Her son founded the chain P.F. Chang’s and the son of one of her chefs founded Panda Express. In early 2017, Chiang shared how she lived to be so old: “I always think about the better side, the good side of everything. I never think about, Oh, I’m going to fail. Oh, I cannot do this. Oh, I feel sorry for myself.” Instead, Chiang wrote books, starred in a PBS documentary series and won the most famous award in American cooking when she was 93 years old. 66.Cecilia Chiang opened the Mandarin in order to ________. C Alibaba co-founder and chairman Jack Ma on Monday announced in an open letter that he would step down, with the company CEO Daniel Zhang taking over as the chairman of the board. Zhang is known as a key architect of Alibaba’s “Singles Day”, the Nov. 11 event that has become the world’s largest online shopping event. In the letter entitled “Happy Teachers’ Day,” Ma said he would retire as the chairman of the board on Sept. 10, 2019. Ma said he would work closely with Zhang to ensure a smooth transition and stay on the Alibaba board of directors until the annual shareholders meeting in two years. After he steps down, he will continue to be part of the “Alibaba Partnership”, which has the ability to nominate the majority of directors on the company’s board. He also wants to return to education and charity, which gives him excitement and blessings. “There’s only Bill Gates who has done the same. No other tech founder in the world has just resigned like that at the top,” said Rupert Hoogewerf, which publishes an annual influential list of China’s richest people. Hoogewerf added that in China, Ma was a figure like no other, with friends ranging from movie stars to billionaires, though he often outshone them all. “He’s the big one, he’s the one that brings them together.” The company was founded at a time when the industry was still dominated by state-owned firms and entrepreneurship was seen as a risky career path. Alibaba, previously recognized as an on-line shopping company, also has investments in sports content, microchips and facial recognition technology and has been positioning itself as a serious player in cloud computing. Mr. Ma said in the letter, “The one thing I can promise everyone is this: Alibaba was never about Jack Ma, but Jack Ma will forever belong to Alibaba.” 73.What do we learn about Alibaba from this passage? Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. A.I often experienced that myself. F.Then you can do whatever necessary to avoid repeating the same mistakes. The Benefits of Keeping a Journal If you want to grow, one important thing you should do is keeping a journal. It may seem simple, but it can make a big difference in your life. I have been keeping journals for years. Writing all the lessons I learn and all the ideas I get has become a habit for me. And to be honest, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it. Here are some benefits you will get by keeping a journal. It prevents you from losing an idea. Have you ever gotten an idea only to lose it later because you didn’t write it down? 77 But then I developed the habit of writing down every idea that came into my mind as soon as possible. If I’m away from my computer, I usually write it down on a piece of paper that I bring wherever I go. I will then transfer the idea to the journal in my computer. It helps you review all the lessons you’ve learned. By reviewing your journal, you can quickly see the lessons you’ve learned from your mistakes and the ideas you’ve gotten. 78 You can use the ideas to push yourself forward. 79 After keeping a journal for years, you can look back at it and see how far you’ve gone. Things that were big problems in the past might seem small today. The raw ideas you had in the past might have been realized today. It helps you expand your ideas. When you try to come up with a sentence to express an idea, you are thinking actively about it. 80 In the end, you will expand your ideas. Ⅳ. Summary Writing (10 points) 81. Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point (s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Endangered Species An endangered species is a group of animals that could soon become extinct. Extinction happens when the last of the species has died out and there will be no more. Many species are nearly extinct and could disappear off the face of the earth very soon if we don’t do anything to save them. There are many reasons why species become endangered but most of them are due to humans. Habitat destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered and this happens in two ways. When humans move into a new area, the animals’ habitat is destroyed and there is nothing to eat because humans chop down trees and build houses and farms. Animal habitats are also destroyed because of pollution. Chemicals in rivers and poisons on farms cause the destruction of habitats and animals can no longer live there. Endangered species are also the result of hunting and fishing. Animals are killed for their fur, bones or skin, or just for sport (消遣). Some seal species are now on the verge of extinction because they are killed for their fur to make coats. Tigers are shot to make medicine and tea from their bones, and crocodiles are caught to make bags and shoes. Overfishing means that large sea creatures like whales, tuna and sharks have all become endangered species, because too many are caught to make things like shark’s fin soup. So what can individuals and governments do to protect animal and plant species from becoming endangered? We should take care not to pollute natural areas, and farmers or companies who destroy animal habitats should face a financial penalty (处罚). Governments can help, too, by making it against the law to hunt, fish or trade in endangered species. If we all cooperate by taking these steps, we will protect our planet so that our children and their children can enjoy it too. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________ V.
