根据“to pay him 10,000 dollars”可知,富人答应付给他一万美元,promised符合语境。
【18题详解】
句意:很快肖像画完成了,但这位富人想出了一个糟糕的主意。
根据后文“‘The man in the painting is me. If I don’t buy this painting...else will buy it,’ he said. ‘I will only pay 3,000 dollars.’”可知,画好后富人反悔,想压价,这是一个恶劣,糟糕的想法。
【19题详解】

The classroom is a place where we spend most of our school days, and its setup can greatly influence our learning experience. In fact, there are many different classroom seating arrangements (排列). Let’s take a look at some of them.
Traditional Seating
Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient for students to have discussions in class.
Paired Seating
Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate (合作) with their desk mates . However, some students can’t focus on their lessons because they may chat with their desk mates.
Group Seating
Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back and leave others to find a way out.
U-Shape Seating

Xie Yutong, a 14-year-old middle school student from Zhengzhou, Henan province, who turned his bedroom into a “personal museum”, has become famous online.
Named the “Yu Tang Museum”, his bedroom, just over ten square meters, is filled with his collection of old books and pottery (陶器). He spent almost all of his pocket money buying these items(物品). At first, he was attracted by artifacts (文物) for their beauty, but as he learned more about history, he realized that each of them carried a special culture.
Books and artifacts have been Xie’s two favorites since childhood. His interest in reading began around the age of three or four, and a visit to a museum with his mother at six made him interested in artifacts and history. In his view, a deep knowledge of history greatly benefits his schoolwork and enriches his after-school life.
The only free space in the room is his bed. “This bed is for my body, while everything else is for my spirit,” he said. Xie doesn’t care much about material things—even wearing socks with a hole, but he treasures his spiritual world. To him, reading ancient books lets him understand what people thought a thousand years ago and touching old bricks lets him imagine how those people lived. He believes this kind of joy is much greater than the fun from the online world.
Xie has a clear plan for the future. He wants to develop a good system to sort (分类) his collections, continue sharing videos on history, and try to become a “little ambassador (大使)” for Chinese culture.
37. Why did Xie become famous online?
A. Because he made his bedroom a personal museum.
B. Because he collected many expensive toys.
C. Because he wrote a book about history.
D. Because he shared funny videos online.
38. What did Xie buy with his pocket money?
A. New clothes and toys. B. Museum tickets.
C. Old books and pottery. D. Beautiful furniture for his room.
39. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. He thinks his room is too small for both sleeping and collecting.
B. He plans to move his bed out to make more space for books.
C. He believes studying online is more fun and joyful.
D. He values the spiritual world much more than physical comfort.
40. What does Xie plan to do in the future?
A. To travel abroad to learn about different cultures.
B. To become an ambassador for Chinese culture.
C. To stop collecting and focus on schoolwork.
D. To sell his collections to make more money.
41. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The importance of learning history for middle school students.
B. Different ways to enrich middle school students’ after-school life.
C. The way to build a sorting system for a personal museum at home.
D. A middle school student’s collection hobby and future plans.

When 15-year-old Li Ming got stuck on a difficult math problem last week, he didn’t ask his teacher or parents for help. Instead, he opened an app on his phone, took a photo of the problem, and got the answer in seconds. The app even showed him step-by-step solutions.
Li Ming is one of millions of Chinese middle school students who are using AI tools to help with their homework. These tools, such as homework helper apps and AI chatbots like DeepSeek, can solve math problems, write essays, and even explain difficult concepts. They have become increasingly popular among students.
“AI tools save me so much time,” said Li Ming. “When I don’t understand something, I can get an explanation right away. It’s like having a private tutor (家教) with me at all times.”
However, not everyone is excited about this trend. Many teachers and parents worry that students might become too reliant on AI. “If students just copy answers from AI without thinking, they will never truly learn,” said Ms. Wang, a math teacher from Beijing. “Learning requires effort. The struggle is part of the process.”
Some schools have started to address this issue. They now teach students how to use AI responsibly. “AI is a tool, not a crutch (拐杖),” said a principal from a Shanghai middle school. “We want our students to use AI to help them think, not to think for them.”
So what’s the right way to use AI for studying? Experts suggest that students should first try to solve problems on their own. If they still need help, they can use AI to get hints (提示) or explanations. After that, they should work through the problem themselves. This way, AI becomes a learning partner rather than an answer machine.
As AI technology continues to develop, learning how to work with it has become an important skill for students today.
42. How did Li Ming solve his math problem according to the passage?
A. He asked his teacher for help. B. He worked on it by himself.
C. He used an AI app on his phone. D. He discussed it with his parents.
43. What does the underlined word “reliant” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. dependent B. bored C. hard D. rich
44. What is Ms. Wang’s opinion about students using AI?
A. Students may spend too much time on their phones.
B. Students may not learn things deeply if they just copy answers.
C. AI tools are too expensive for most students.
D. AI tools often give wrong answers to math problems.
45. According to the principal in Shanghai, what is the proper way to view (看待) AI?
A. AI should replace teachers in the future.
B. AI should be a tool to help students think.
C. Students should never use AI for homework.
D. AI is only useful for math problems.
46. What does the expert suggest students do when using AI for studying?
A. Always trust the answers AI gives.
B. Use AI to solve all difficult problems immediately.
C. Try to solve problems first, then use AI for hints.
D. Only use AI when they are too lazy to think
【答案】42. C 43. A 44. B 45. B 46. C

【45题详解】
根据“AI is a tool, not a crutch (拐杖)”可知,他认为AI应该是帮助学生思考的工具。
【46题详解】
根据“Experts suggest that students should first try to solve problems on their own. If they still need help, they can use AI to get hints (提示) or explanations.”可知,专家建议学生先自己尝试解题,再用AI获取提示。

On November 26, 2025, a terrible fire happened in Wang Fuk Yuen, Tai Po, Hong Kong. The whole city was shocked by the accident. The fire started on the building’s scaffolding (脚手架) at about 2:51 pm. In just a few hours, the fire escalated to a Level 5 alarm—the second-highest alarm level (警报级别) in Hong Kong.
Strong winds made the fire spread to seven nearby buildings. The old scaffolding and green nets burned easily, making the fire bigger. The temperature at the scene was quite high, which was a big problem for firefighters to save residents (住户). Some were stuck on the upper floors of the buildings. Rescuers (救援人员) couldn’t reach them quickly because of the high temperature, but they comforted them by phone.
Over 700 firefighters and rescuers were sent, along with 128 fire engines and 57 ambulances. Sadly, 44 people died in the fire, including a 37-year-old firefighter. To mourn him, the Hong Kong Fire Department changed its website to black and white.
The government acted quickly: it opened temporary shelters (避难所), sent social workers and psychologists to help them with their feelings. And nearby schools were closed on November 27 for student safety. The reason for the fire is still being looked into. This accident reminds everyone that fire safety is very important, especially in old communities where construction work is going on.

A. Because the temperature was too high. B. Because the residents didn’t answer the phone.
C. Because the roads were crowded. D. Because there were not enough fire engines.
50. Which of the following was NOT mentioned as a government action after the fire?
A. Send psychologists for mental support. B. Rebuild the damaged buildings.
C. Provide temporary places to live. D. Look into the cause of the fire.
51. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. It criticizes (批评) the lack of fire safety measures in buildings under construction.

A Smartphone-Free Childhood?
Do you have a smartphone? Can you use it freely? How well could you live without one for three weeks? In England, 26 students from a school joined in such an experiment (实验). They took part in it to experience life without a phone.
All volunteers were Grade 8 students. They agreed to keep their phones locked for three weeks. Researchers from the University of York watched their daily life, and the experiment was recorded for a TV documentary to help students reduce phone use. Professor Henderson said the experiment was unusual because students stayed away from phones longer than in other tests.
After three weeks, students showed many good changes. They slept 50 minutes earlier and fell asleep 20 minutes faster, which improved their mood, focus and health. They felt less worried and sad, and spent more time with family and friends. Teachers found them more active in class. Their working memory improved a little, but long-term focus didn’t change much.
The study shows that living without smartphones is good for sleep and mood of students under 14 years old. Taking a break from phones can really bring advantages to young people.

47. What does the word “escalated” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean in Chinese?
A. 被控制 B. 被扑灭 C. 逐步升级 D. 逐步缓解
48. What mainly helped the fire spread to seven nearby buildings?
A. Old electrical wires. B. Lack of fire equipment.
C. Dry weather. D. Strong winds.
49. Why was it difficult for rescuers to reach the trapped (受困的) people quickly?
