My name is Vienna Cammarota, a 75-year-old Italian hiker and tour guide. I have been a fan of Marco Polo since childhood, which later led me to become a tour guide. Years of hiking have helped me stay healthy. Even at 75, I still have no need for reading glasses.
About 20 years ago, my interest in China started with a student from Beijing who stayed in my home. Our friendship made me greatly curious (好奇的) about China. I read The Travels of Marco Polo again and again, and the descriptions of the ancient Silk Road deeply attracted me.
In 2018, I decided to hike along the old Silk Road. I planned a 22,000-kilometer journey from Venice to Beijing. It would pass through fifteen countries in three to four years. My children once thought it impossible, but they fully supported me after knowing my detailed plan.
My trip started in 2022. During over two years, I walked through mountains, rivers, cities and villages. I learned local history, culture and customs, and felt amazed by the huge changes along the route. I also felt glad to learn that the Belt and Road Initiative (“一带一路”倡议) carries on the Silk Road spirit and helps people from many countries. Now walking with Marco Polo’s book, I feel proud. I want to tell others: be brave to follow your dreams, for nothing is impossible.
19. According to the passage, ________ first made Vienna interested in China.
A. reading Marco Polo’s book
B. watching a movie about China
C. a tour guide working in Venice
D. a student from Beijing staying in her home
20. Which of the following is TRUE about Vienna’s journey?
A. It started in 2018 and lasted three years.
B. It started from Beijing and ended in Venice.
C. She finished the whole journey with her children.
D. It was 22,000 kilometers and passed through 15 countries.
21. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Amazing Changes Along the Silk Road
B. Friendship Between Italy and China
C. A 75-Year-Old Hiker’s Silk Road Dream
D. How to Plan a Long Walking Journey
D 20. D 21. C

根据第二段中“my interest in China started with a student from Beijing who stayed in my home”可知,一位住在她家的北京学生最先让她对中国产生兴趣。
根据第三段中“I planned a 22,000-kilometer journey from Venice to Beijing. It would pass through fifteen countries...”

C
When we think about how humans lived in the Ice Age, we usually imagine big inventions like fire and hunting tools. However, a new study suggests that one of the most important technologies was surprisingly small: the sewing needle (缝衣针).
About 100,000 years ago, humans began spreading across the globe, including places with cold winters. Scientists have believed that this was not just about courage or better hunting skills. It might have hinged upon something more practical: the ability to make well-fitted clothes. The idea is simple: if you can sew, you can turn animal skins (毛皮) into clothes that keep you warm much better than just putting skins around your body.
The challenge was proving this idea. Bone (骨头) needles are easy to break and hard to study. Researcher McKenna Litynski came up with a new way. She studied hundreds of records from North America written between the 1700s and 1900s. These records described how real communities used needles in their daily lives.
Her research found that making clothes was the most common use of needles, and they were mentioned more in cold areas. But a surprise was that making clothes only took up 14% of their uses. People also used them for sewing wounds, fishing, weaving baskets and traditional events.
This research provides a better way to understand how both environmental needs and social life shaped the way people used tools. It reminds us that some of the biggest changes in human history might not be driven by big inventions. Sometimes, they were driven by a little piece of bone, used for far more purposes than anyone first imagined.
22. The underlined words “hinged upon” in Paragraph 2 probably mean “________”.
A. led to B. heard of C. depended on D. given up
23. How did McKenna Litynski do her research?
A. She tried to make bone needles herself.
B. She interviewed people in different communities.
C. She studied old records of how people used needles.
D. She found the oldest bone needle in North America.
24. What surprising result did the study show?
A. Sewing wounds was the most common use of needles.
B. Needles were used for many different purposes.
C. The colder the place was, the fewer needles people used.
D. People stopped using needles a long time ago.
25. What does the passage mainly want to tell us?
A. Small tools like needles can have a big influence.
B. Big inventions like fire changed human history.
C. Bone needles are easy to break and hard to study.
D. Ancient people spent most of their time making clothes.
C 23. C 24. B 25. A
原句“It might have hinged upon something more practical: the ability to make well-fitted clothes.”
原文第三段明确写道:“She studied hundreds of records from North America written between the 1700s and 1900s. These records described how real communities used needles in their daily lives.”
原文第四段指出:“a surprise was that making clothes only took up 14% of their uses. People also used them for sewing wounds, fishing, weaving baskets and traditional events.”
文章最后一段总结:“It reminds us that some of the biggest changes in human history might not be driven by big inventions. Sometimes, they were driven by a little piece of bone...”
Do you know about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? ____26____ TCM doctors often check your tongue (舌头), give you herbs (草药), or use acupoints (穴位) to treat illnesses.
Now, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is helping TCM work better. AI is smart — it can learn and think like humans, and we can see it in computers and robots. Let’s see how AI helps with TCM herbs first. ____27____ People need to boil the herbs in water to make a drink, but it’s hard to get the right temperature and time. A small mistake makes the medicine less useful.
But AI machines can solve this problem. They read doctors’ prescriptions (处方) and boil herbs in their own ways. They control the temperature perfectly, so the medicine is always good. ____28____
AI robots also help with moxibustion (艾灸), a special TCM treatment. ____29____ Finding the right acupoints is very important. AI robots have smart eyes — they can find acupoints quickly. The robot’s arm is steady and never shakes, making the treatment safe.
____30____ Doctors are still the most important. AI is just a “super assistant” that helps doctors work faster and better, making TCM treatments more efficient for everyone.
A. AI is not here to take the place of TCM doctors.
B. TCM doctors give people bags of different herbs.
C. This saves people a lot of time.
D. Many students have difficulty in learning TCM.
E. Doctors use warmth from burning herbs near your skin to reach acupoints.
F. It’s an old way to keep people healthy in China, with a history of thousands of years.

B“TCM doctors give people bags of different herbs.”
C“This saves people a lot of time.”
E“Doctors use warmth from burning herbs near your skin to reach acupoints.”
A“AI is not here to take the place of TCM doctors.”AI不是为了取代中医医生。

D. It was 22,000 kilometers and passed through 15 countries.
21. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Amazing Changes Along the Silk Road
B. Friendship Between Italy and China
C. A 75-Year-Old Hiker’s Silk Road Dream
D. How to Plan a Long Walking Journey
