under the sheltering tree of their friendship —— 在友谊的庇护大树下
loved exploring the new city paths on her old bicycle —— 爱骑着旧自行车探索城市新路
a small misunderstanding gathered into a dark cloud —— 小小的误会聚成乌云
Even the strongest trees can be shaken by a sudden storm. —
Sophia
Her fingers moved quickly and skillfully across the keyboard. ——
Each slide was filled with strong arguments and well-chosen pictures. ——
Her worry grew with every minute. ——
The empty chair beside her seemed to laugh at her.
feeling both lonely and angry at the same time —— 既孤独又愤怒
cut off by Sophia whose patience had run out —— 被耐心耗尽的Sophia打断
The sharp words flew out.

the setting sun created two separate shadows stretching behind them —— 夕阳投下两道分开的影子
a perfect picture of the sudden space that had grown between them ——她们之间突然出现的距离的完美写照
失眠时的内心活动 → toss and turn(辗转反侧)/ replay in one's mind(在脑海中重放)/ gnaw at one's heart(啃噬内心)
主动迈出第一步 → gather one's courage(鼓起勇气)/ swallow one's pride(放下自尊)/ break the silence(打破沉默)
听对方把话说完 → hear sb. out(听某人把话说完)/ without interrupting(没有打断)/ let the words sink in(让话语沉淀下来)
和解的瞬间 → one's face softened(表情柔和下来)/ a weight lifted(如释重负)/ reach out one's hand(伸出手)
重归于好 → shoulder to shoulder(肩并肩)/ like before, but different(和以前一样,但不一样了)/ stronger for what they had weathered(经历风雨后更坚固了)
Paragraph 1 段首句
That night, Sophia lay in bed, worried about their relationship and the project.
Paragraph 2 段首句
The next day, Melody arrived early at the cafe, hoping to continue her interrupted explanation.
