One day when I was 15 years old, I was making food in the kitchen. My brother came in. He placed his beef next to my thick one and said, “Courtney, your beef is bigger than mine. You don’t need to eat; you’re too fat.” Then he walked out laughing. From then on, I was unwilling to wear shorts until I was 30 years old. For the next 15 years, I spent summer after summer roasting in long pants.
But then I met Ragen Chastain. I couldn’t believe that this almost 300-pound woman who, like myself, was so energetic and happy in her own skin. I listened as she shared her own journey to recovery and self-love. She talked about how amazing our bodies are, simply because of the things they do every day — like breathing, pumping blood to every cell and walking.
Walking! I suddenly realized how foolish I’d been for so long. There are people who are born without legs, or who lack properly working legs, or who lose their legs, and I’d been hiding my perfectly strong, healthy and beautiful legs in shame. The next day, I bought three pairs of shorts and a sundress and spent the entire summer letting my legs see the sun and feel the breeze.
The next time anyone comments on your body in a negative way, look them straight in the eye, smile and say, “If what you see bothers you so much, feel free to practice the ancient art of looking somewhere else.” That’s Ragen’s own creation, but I don’t think she’ll mind if you use it.
24. What can we know about the author when she was a teenager?
A. She was fat. B. She disliked beef.
C. Her parents loved her more. D. Her brother always helped her.
25. Which of the following can best describe Ragen Chastain?
A. Honest. B. Clever. C. Positive. D. Responsible.
26. Why did the author buy three pairs of shorts?
A. The shorts were on sale. B. She was inspired by Ragen Chastain.
C. The shorts were suitable for the weather. D. She wanted to give them to Ragen Chastain.
27. What does the author want to tell us?
A. Dress whatever we want and ignore others’ judgement.
B. There are many people who are as fat as us in the world.
C. Love ourselves and don’t care about others’ negative opinions.
D. Eat as you like and there’s no need to care about our bodies.
C
Most of us know that eating too much sugar isn’t good for us. Because of a close connection between its consumption and health dangers like obesity, fatty liver disease, type 2diabetes, heart disease and cancer, sugar is high on the lists of bad habits worth giving up.
It turns out that reducing sugar intake (摄入) not only helps you avoid the harm of overconsumption, it can also bring surprising results you won’t have to wait long to benefit from. “These include improved mood, skin health, dental hygiene, cognitive function, and even athletic performance,” says Amy Goodson, a nutritionist and registered dietitian.
The first thing to understand is that not all sugar is bad for you because there’s a big difference between natural sugars and added sugars.
Natural sugars like glucose in bread, fructose in fruit and many vegetables, and lactose in milk are natural. They not only provide energy but also offer sweetness to encourage us to eat the foods that contain something important for our health.
Added sugars are what are introduced to foods or drinks during processing, cooking, or at the table. There are more than 260 names for various added sugars, which are added, most commonly, to sweeten or improve the taste of often unhealthy and over-processed foods. Worse, foods with added sugars don’t provide meaningful amounts of nutrition.
The harm connected with eating or drinking too many added sugars is big and includes an increased risk of developing autoimmune disorders such as Crohn’s disease and higher blood pressure, and increased risk of different cancers. A 2023 BMC Medicine study also shows that even a five percent increase in added sugars comes with a six percent higher risk of heart disease and a ten percent higher risk of stroke.
“Such harm occurs in part, because any consumed sugar that isn’t used for energy is stored as fat, which results in increased weight gain, leading to diabetes, obesity, and related bad results,” says Elaine Hon, a clinical dietician and education specialist at Stanford Health Care.
28. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. Results of overconsumption. B. Possible sugar-connected problems.
C. Benefits of eating less sugar. D. Tips on how to reduce sugar intake.
29. What does the text say about natural sugars?
A. They help us eat more healthy foods. B. They should be consumed properly.
C. They provide little energy for bodies. D. They are always in processed foods.
30. What do the numbers in paragraph 6 show?
A. Giving up sugar is a must. B. Added sugars are harmful.
C. A balanced diet is important. D. The 2023 study is unbelievable.
31. What does Elaine Hon try to do in the last paragraph?
A. Call for an action. B. Raise some questions.
C. Give an explanation. D. Offer practical advice.
D
As AI art generators (生成器) take the world by storm, some people wonder if their works should count as art at all. The technology is still developing and has some wrinkles to iron out, which means there are indeed flaws to consider alongside the incredible artwork a good artificial intelligence can produce.
Art is classed as the product of imagination, skill, experience, and emotion, usually meant to represent something for the public to enjoy. Artists spent time and effort putting their inner worlds onto these works. Machine intelligence also puts a lot of work into sorting through tons of data, linking someone’s prompt to datasets, and trying to represent it as best as possible. The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself.
AI painters can produce over 1,000 original works of art with every tap of the enter key on a keyboard. But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Scarcity — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be?
AI art involves a program mimicking (模仿) the work of existing artists to create a new piece according to the request of a human. But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists sue for copyright (版权) violation? Such questions complicate the merging of artificial intelligence and the art industry, while fueling arguments against recognizing AI-generated art as marketable artistic products.
Once we’ve answered those questions, we can tackle the really big one: When an AI-generated painting wins an award, who gets the prize?
32. What does the underlined word "flaws" in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Benefits. B. Advances. C. Weaknesses. D. Standards.
33. How is AI art different from human art?
A. It is the product of experience. B. It costs less money to produce.
C. It combines different styles of work. D. It is not a mirror of humans’ emotions.
34. Why does the writer mention Mona Lisa in the third paragraph?
A. To prove the popularity of classic artworks.
B. To present the potential trouble with the value of AI art.
C. To show the advantages of AI painters over human artists.
D. To introduce a new way of preserving art masterpieces.
35. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. AI art promotes the sale of artistic products.
B. AI art makes copyright issues more complicated.
C. Artists can create more works with the help of AI.
D. There will be fierce competition in the art industry.

Although I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We planned to look for its owner the next day.
The next day my family and I looked for the dog's owner. It was so hard to find its owner. We were looking for flyers(传单) that involved the puppy, but no luck. We wouldn't have given up because it's a puppy and it needs its owner.
“We won't stop looking for its owner, ” my mom and dad said to me. “And we are going to take care of the puppy until we find its owner. ”
Then we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky. So we gave it a nice bath. After we gave it a bath, it turned pure white. And I noticed there was a collar(狗项圈) on him, which said “Coby”. We decided to look for the puppy's owner immediately. My mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking for more information until we found a flyer about it. We looked at it and it said, “Lost Dog: Please Help If Found. ” Then we looked at the picture; it looked exactly like Coby. We were all happy we found a flyer that was for Cody.

Language is the bridge that connects people everywhere. On April 20th, people around the world celebrated the United Nations Chinese Language Day. To celebrate the event, the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland, organized the first Chinese Language Video Festival. Participants from 27 countries, including the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, shared their love for the Chinese language and culture through short videos. Over 340 videos told stories about a civilized, modern and youthful China through their personal experiences in the country. Though some people find the language difficult to learn, most find it to be useful. Yousaf from Pakistan said, “Learning Chinese is not just learning a language. If you know this language, you know the civilization and the mind of the people.” Yerdana, a former international student from Kazakhstan, found that it was important to use his imagination when learning Chinese. “For example, the Chinese character for ‘tea’ has those lines of grass, the roof of a house and people drinking tea.”

A 25. C 26. B 27.

C 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据第二段“It turns out that reducing sugar intake (摄入) not only helps you avoid the harm of overconsumption, it can also bring surprising results you won’t have to wait long to benefit from. “These include improved mood, skin health, dental hygiene, cognitive function, and even athletic performance,” says Amy Goodson, a nutritionist and registered dietitian.(事实证明,减少糖的摄入量不仅可以帮助你避免过量摄入的危害,还可以带来意想不到的效果,你不必等太久就能从中受益。“这些包括改善情绪、皮肤健康、牙齿卫生、认知功能,甚至运动表现,”营养学家和注册营养师艾米·古德森说)”可知,第二段主要介绍了少吃糖的益处。故选C。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“They not only provide energy but also offer sweetness to encourage us to eat the foods that contain something important for our health.(它们不仅提供能量,还提供甜味,鼓励我们吃含有对我们健康重要的东西的食物)”可知,天然糖类有助于我们吃更多健康的食物。故选A。
根据第六段“A 2023 BMC Medicine study also shows that even a five percent increase in added sugars comes with a six percent higher risk of heart disease and a ten percent higher risk of stroke. (《英国医学委员会医学》2023年的一项研究也表明,即使添加糖的摄入量增加5%,患心脏病的风险也会增加6%,患中风的风险会增加10%)”可知,数据主要表明,即使是添加糖的少量增加也会提高各种疾病发生的概率,因此添加糖是有害的。故选B。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““Such harm occurs in part, because any consumed sugar that isn’t used for energy is stored as fat, which results in increased weight gain, leading to diabetes, obesity, and related bad results,” says Elaine Hon, a clinical dietician and education specialist at Stanford Health Care.(斯坦福医疗保健中心的临床营养师和教育专家伊莱恩·汉说:“造成这种伤害的部分原因是,任何摄入的不用于能量的糖都会以脂肪的形式储存起来,从而导致体重增加,导致糖尿病、肥胖和相关的不良后果。”)”
C 33. D 34. B 35. B
根据第一段中的“The technology is still developing and has some wrinkles to iron out, which means there are indeed flaws to consider alongside the incredible artwork a good artificial intelligence can produce. (这项技术仍在发展中,还有一些问题需要解决,这意味着除了优秀人工智能能创作出的出色作品外,确实还有一些flaws需要考虑)”可知,这项技术有一些问题需要解决。由此可知,此处指的是技术存在一些缺陷,所以划线单词“flaws”与“缺陷、不足”意义相近。故选C项。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself. (不同之处在于,人工智能是由指令驱动的,而非表达自我的情感渴望)”可知,人工智能艺术与人类艺术的不同之处是人工智能艺术不是人类情绪的反映。故选D项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“AI painters can produce over 1,000 original works of art with every tap of the enter key on a keyboard. But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Scarcity — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be?
根据第四段中的“AI art involves a program mimicking (模仿) the work of existing artists to create a new piece according to the request of a human. But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists sue for copyright (版权) violation? Such questions complicate the merging of artificial intelligence and the art industry (AI艺术是程序根据人类需求,模仿现有艺术家的作品来创作新作品。

根据空前定冠词the和空后“of the Norwegian Taiji Center in Oslo”可知,空处需用名词founder“创始人”作介词As的宾语。
be fond of“喜欢”,固定搭配。
make up one’s mind to do sth.“下定决心做某事”,固定搭配,所以空处需用动词不定式。
a wide range of“各种各样的”,固定搭配。

First of all, it is necessary for us to raise awareness of environment protection and develop a good habit of garbage sorting. What’s more, we should voluntarily separate recyclables from waste that has been mixed in our daily life.

One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast—until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door, we saw a puppy(小狗). We looked around to see if there was its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.

There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered; it was a lady. My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said “Yes! ” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her, had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take him to her. She told us her address at once; then we went to it.
We found the lady's house, and then we knocked on the door. A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy. We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help. We went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we usually visited her, and of course, Coby!
