German Sinologist Martin Woesler, who has devoted years to Chinese literature, recently visited
Dunhuang,a historic Silk Road city in Gansu Province,China. His trip, part of attending the meeting-
the Fourth Dialogue on Exchanges Among Civilizations, became an unforgettable cultural discovery.
Beforehand,Woesler had learned Dunhuang's role as a desert oasis ()a treasure house of art,
and crossroads of Silk Road cultures.Yet seeing it firsthand amazed him.Standing in front of the Mogao
Grottoes,he was attracted by the mixed cultures in Cave 285.There,Greek gods Apollo and Diana,
Chinese stories about Fuxi and Nyuwa,Indian Buddhist flying figures, and Daoist immortal beings all
appear together in frescoes ()"Different traditions come together here to make a 1,000-year-old
wonder,"he said,amazed by Dunhuang's spirit of inclusiveness.
Woesler's journey with Chinese culture began 38 years ago in his hometown of Munster,Germany,
when a Chinese poem at a poetry reading awakened his curiosity. He devoted himself to narrowing the
cultural gap between China and Germany. Then he studied at Peking University and spent over thirty years
in China. As a translator and educator,he launched workshops to promote Chinese literature in Germany,

aiming to solve the imbalance in cultural translation-where far fewer Chinese works reach German
readers compared to foreign ones in Chinese.
Dunhuang's experience also inspired his thoughts on digital-age dialogue. He believes technologies
like digital protection and virtual (exhibitions can make ancient treasures accessible, helping
people welcome differences with openness."We can achieve win-win progress only by learning from each
other,"he notes, stressing how Dunhuang's age-old wisdom holds the key to modern global harmony.
As his trip ended,Woesler carried away more than memories-he got renewed confidence in the
power of civilizational dialogue."Dunhuang is not just a place;it's a lesson in how diversity can create
something timeless,"he concludes, hoping its spirit will guide modern efforts to build a more connected
world.
21Why did Woesler visit Dunhuang?

B.To take part in a cultural exchange activity

A The mystery of Chinese stories.

The festive season is upon us and Australians are turning to technology to make their Christmas
shopping easier.A new study shows that nearly one-third of Australian shoppers are more open to using AI
chatbots this year than last.Interestingly, this trend is not limited to younger generations;Australians aged
55 and over are also increasingly willing to use chatbots to find deals and simplify their Christmas
shopping.
AI chatbots are changing how we shop. From giving detailed gift recommendations to answering
product questions in real time, chatbots are a powerful tool in the modern retail landscape.
However, this rapid technological adoption raises concerns among many Australians, who fear the
loss of personalized service and human communication in shopping. The key lies in using AI to make
human service better, not replace it.By automating routine tasks like answering easy and repeat questions,
workers are freed to deal with harder problems and talk with customers in a real way.
Retailers must balance innovation with caring about people.Investing in both AI tools and
high-quality human service is important to meet modern expectations.Studies show half of consumers
now pick brands with excellent service, showing that service quality remains a decisive factor.
As Australians welcome AI this Christmas, the message is clear:Technology is not the enemy of
personalisation.Instead,it's a tool that, when used thoughtfully, can make holiday shopping less stressful
and more cheerful for everyone
25.What does the new study find?
A.More shoppers now like using chatbots.
B.Old people like AI more than young people.
C.Older Australians have difficulty using chatbots.
D.More young people are shopping this year than last.
26 What is a concern among many Australians about chatbots?

A.The high cost of using them
B.The replacement of their jobs.
C.The drop of product quality
D.The loss of human touch.
27 How can retailers meet modern customers'expectations according to the text?
A.By using less Al.
B.By speeding up response time
C.By centering on product design.
D.By pairing AI with service teams.
28 What is the author's attitude towards using AI in shopping?
A.Uncaring.
B.Positive.
C.Doubtful.
D.Unclear.

Poet and Harvard Professor Henry Wadsworth Longfellow famously said,"Music is the universal
language of mankind."A new Harvard study suggests he may have been right.
The study conducted by a research team found that people around the world could identify lullabies
(摇篮曲),dance songs,.and comforting songs一regardless of the songs'cultural origin一after hearing
just a 14-second clip. The finding suggests that not only is music deeply rooted in human nature, but that
some types of songs break cultural boundaries.
The findings are based on a wide-reaching experiment in which 750 online participants in 60
countries listened to brief clips of songs collected from nearly 90 small societies around the world,
including hunter-gatherers and some special farmers.Participants then answered six questions, rating each
clip according to whether they believed the song was used for dancing, calming a baby, treating illness,or
expressing love.Two additional uses-1
mourning(哀悼)the dead and telling a story一were included as
controls.
The data showed that despite participants'unfamiliarity with the cultures, the random sampling of
each song, and the short duration of the samples, people were able to reliably infer the songs'functions,
and that their ratings were consistent across the world.
The findings ran counter to expert expectations. The team had also asked professionals, including
performers, composers, psychologists, and scientists about whether they believed people would be able to
identify the song types.Their answer was no.And not only that, but they predicted that people's responses

will be inconsistent with one another."That's not what we found,"the researchers said.
The researchers also wanted to know whether listeners were recognizing certain non-musical
characteristics of the songs. To test that, the team conducted a second study. This time, they asked listeners
about a number of contextual and musical characteristics, varying from the gender of the singers to the
rhythm of the song.
When data from the two studies were combined, the results showed that songs of the same function
shared similar characteristics-lullabies,for example, tended to be slower and simpler than dance music
suggesting that something about musical characteristics crosses cultural boundaries.
29.What did the participants do in the first study?
A.They distinguished functions of the songs.
B.They identified the cultural origins of the songs
C.They recognized the non-musical characteristics of the songs
D.They sorted the songs according to the gender of the singers.
30 What does the underlined part"ran counter to"in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.were equal to.
B.were similar to.
C.were superior to.
D.were opposite to.
31.Why did the researchers carry out the second study?
A.To test the musical knowledge of a wider audience.
B.To collect more diverse songs from various cultures.
C.To confirm the surprising results from the first one
D.To explore the underlying reasons behind the findings.
32.What can we learn from the two studies?
A.Listeners recognize music by its rhythm
B.Something about music might be universal.
C.Dance music is usually slower and simpler.
D.Cultural similarities lead to similar musical characteristics.

A friendship doesn't begin with the hope that it will end.We invest time and energy, not believing
that our efforts could eventually be fruitless.33When things said or done cause a breakdown in trust
or closeness, you can reconnect with a friend you've grown apart from by starting a conversation.
34So take time to reflect on what exactly happened between you and your friend. When knowing
what went wrong in the relationship, you are often better equipped with an understanding of what you
could say to make things right again
If you and your friend need to have a serious heart-to-heart conversation,it's a good idea to select the
right time and place to talk.Choose a time when you both have some open availability.Don't try to jam in
a heavy conversation in a half-hour lunch break on a workday.3A public place is generally not the
best place to have a serious and emotional conversation with a friend.
There may be moments in the conversation when you feel yourself tense up,want to shut down or
explode in anger.36Otherwise,they can become roadblocks that make it impossible to have a
productive conversation. When feeling like interrupting or talking over your friend, take a deep breath and
keep calm.
Friendships take time to rebuild especially if trust has been broken.Don't expect things to go right
back to normal once you and your friend talk through things.37
A Also,find a setting that's private.
B You can't fix a problem you don't make out.
C However,friendships aren't always forever.
D.Try to notice these urges without acting on them.
E.Whatever the reason, don't hesitate to take action.
F.Instead,go slowly and gradually reestablish closeness.
G.You both have a say on how to strengthen bonds with the other.

In high school, many students may encounter difficulties in their studies, and so did I.Sometimes,I
would become very confused.Math problems that seemed to be impossible to solve, puzzling grammar in
English, and difficult historical events all made me feel at a loss.I didn't know where to start or how to
improve.
Moreover, the fierce competition among classmates also added to my anxiety.Seeing others doing
well,I couldn't help but question myself, wondering if I was working hard enough. This sense of
uncertainty made me doubt my abilities and future.I was losing patience and drive.
One sunny day,as I was sitting in the classroom feeling a bit bored,my teacher came in and
announced that we would have a special project-to plant a tree in the schoolyard.I was excited at the
thought of getting outside and doing something different.
I went outside and started digging the hole for the tree.I worked hard, feeling the dirt on my hands
and the sweat on my forehead. As I was working,a classmate,Mary, came over and said,"Hey,you're
really putting a lot of effort into this!"I smiled and replied,"Yeah,I want this tree to grow strong. It feels

第二节 读后续写范文(20 分)
One day, as I stood by a tree lost in thought, my teacher approached me. She gently asked what I was thinking about. I told her I felt worried about my studies and doubted myself. She smiled and pointed at the tree, saying that growth takes time and difficulties are just like wind and rain—they make us stronger. She told me to keep trying and be patient with progress.
Reflecting on it now, I realize this conversation was a turning point in my life. I stopped being anxious and began to face challenges calmly. Just like the tree, I kept growing little by little. I learned that perseverance beats perfection and that every effort pays off. This lesson has encouraged me to move forward bravely in my study and life.
