At a middle school in Suzhou, a group of students started a "Green Exchange" program. Every Wednesday during lunch break, students can bring their used plastic bottles, old newspapers, and cardboard boxes to the school hall. In return, they receive points that can be exchanged for school supplies like notebooks, pens, and rulers. The program was started by three Grade 8 students who wanted to reduce waste on campus.
The idea came from Li Na, one of the three founders. She noticed that many students threw away plastic bottles after drinking, without thinking about recycling. She discussed it with her friends Wang Peng and Zhao Ling, and together they designed the point system. Now, over 200 students take part in the program every week, and the school has collected over 3,000 plastic bottles in just two months.
"At first, I didn't think recycling could be fun," said Wang Peng. "But seeing how many bottles we collected, I feel proud. It's like we are making a real difference." The school principal says the program has not only reduced waste but also taught students the importance of environmental responsibility.
The success of the program has inspired other schools in Suzhou to start similar activities. The three students are now working on a guidebook to help other schools set up their own green exchange programs.
4.Why did the students start the "Green Exchange" program?
A.To make money for the school. B.To reduce waste on campus.
C.To win a school competition. D.To get free school supplies.
5.How did the program change Wang Peng's view?
A.He found recycling can be meaningful.
B.He decided to become an environmental scientist.

D.He thought recycling was too much work.
6.What does the school principal think of the program?
A.It takes too much time.
B.It reduces waste and teaches responsibility.
C.It should be stopped after two months.
D.It only benefits a few students.
7.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Three Creative Students B.How to Recycle Plastic Bottles
C.The Green Exchange That Changed a School D.A Guidebook for Recycling
C
When you throw away a plastic bottle, where does it go? Most of it ends up in landfills, but a shocking amount finds its way into the ocean. Scientists estimate that about 8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year. That is like dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into the sea every minute.
Plastic pollution is dangerous for sea animals. Turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and eat them. Fish and seabirds get tangled in plastic rings and can't swim or fly. Over time, plastic breaks down into tiny pieces called microplastics, which enter the food chain and even end up in the seafood we eat.
The good news is that people are taking action. Many countries have banned single-use plastic bags and straws. Scientists are inventing new materials that can replace plastic. Beach clean-up events are happening around the world. In China, over 10,000 volunteers took part in a national beach clean-up day last year, collecting more than 50 tons of plastic waste.
However, experts say the most important change is to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Small actions like bringing your own water bottle, saying no to plastic straws, and choosing products with less packaging can make a big difference. As one scientist said, "The ocean doesn't have to be a trash can. Every choice we make matters."
8.What is the main idea of Paragraph 1?
A.How plastic bottles are made.
B.The serious problem of plastic in the ocean.
C.Why landfills are full of trash.
D.How garbage trucks work.
9.Which of the following is a fact according to the passage?
A.Plastic is harmless to sea animals.
B.8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean yearly.
C.All plastic bags have been banned in China.
D.Microplastics are good for fish.
10.What did 10,000 volunteers in China do?
A.They made new plastic products.
B.They collected over 50 tons of plastic waste.
C.They invented a new material.
D.They stopped using plastic completely.
11.What does the expert suggest as the most important action?
A.Only recycling plastic.
B.Reducing the amount of plastic we use.
C.Burning all plastic waste.
D.Throwing plastic into the right bins.
D
Wu Jie, a 16-year-old student from Wuhan, came up with a creative idea when he visited a school for blind children. He noticed that learning Braille (盲文) was difficult and slow for many students because the teaching materials were very limited. This inspired him to invent a "smart Braille learning device" that makes learning Braille faster and more fun.
The device looks like a small tablet. It has a surface that can raise and lower tiny dots to form Braille letters. Connected to a smartphone app, the device reads out words while showing them in Braille at the same time. Students can feel the dots while hearing the pronunciation, which helps them learn faster. The device also has built-in games that make practice enjoyable.
Wu Jie's invention won first prize at the national青少年科技创新大赛. Several special education schools have shown interest in using the device. One teacher said, "This device has made our teaching much easier. Students who used to struggle with Braille are now making rapid progress."
Wu Jie is now working on a cheaper version so that more schools can afford it. He also plans to add more languages. "I want every blind child to have the chance to learn easily," he said. "Technology should be a bridge, not a barrier."
12.What inspired Wu Jie to invent the Braille learning device?
A.He wanted to win a science competition.
B.He saw blind students struggling with limited materials.
C.His teacher asked him to help blind children.
D.He read a book about Braille.
13.Put the following steps in correct order according to the passage:
a. The device raises or lowers dots to form Braille letters.
b. The smartphone app reads out the word.
c. The student feels the dots and hears the pronunciation.
d. The student connects the device to the smartphone app.
A.d-a-b-c B.a-d-c-b C.d-b-a-c D.b-a-d-c
14.What do teachers think of the device?
A.It is too expensive to use. B.It makes teaching much easier.
C.It needs more games. D.It is difficult to operate.
15.What is Wu Jie's next plan?
A.To make a cheaper version and add languages.
B.To sell his device to foreign countries.
C.To invent a new kind of tablet.
D.To build a school for blind children.
