Do animals communicate with each other? How do they communicate with others? I did some research and, to my surprise, I learned that all animals communicate. They don’t use language, but they send messages to each other. Animals communicate with each other in three main ways: through sounds, smells, and body language.
The alarm call is one way. When an enemy is near, animals send out a warning sound. Others hear it and run to a safe place or get together to fight the enemy. Whales are famous for their ability to communicate from far away with special sounds. In their own social groups, whales understand what they’re saying to each other.
Smell is another popular way for animals to communicate. Some animals, such as the amoeba (变形虫), send out a smell to tell other amoebas it’s going to have babies. Skunks send out an odor (气味) when they feel they are in danger.
Many animals use body language to communicate. Chimpanzees (黑猩猩) touch hands when they meet. A happy dog moves its tail from side to side. Even people understand this form of dog body language.
People develop their own ways of communicating, using words and sentences. But if you watch other animals carefully, you quickly come to understand that they also have ways of sending their messages.

A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby in their free time. In fact, many people have found that dancing can make them feel better both physically and mentally. Why is dancing so helpful?
When we dance, we move our bodies to different kinds of music. This movement helps our bodies produce more endorphins, a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy. It’s like our body’s own “feel-good” medicine.
Dancing is a mix of music and sports. While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together gives better results. In a study, a group of German scientists carefully chose a number of patients with different levels of depression (沮丧). They tested these patients under three conditions: a group dancing with music, a group just listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group was the least depressed.
Dancing can bring people together, too. Tango, Latin dance or other social dancing requires us to move with others, which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation.
Studies have found that depression often has to do with sadness about the past or worry about the future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with your body and free your mind for a while. In this way, it helps us forget bad feelings.
Lauren Helper, a social worker in the US, said that dancing can be any form. You can dance at home when you listen to your favorite song, or you can go out and dance with friends. The most important thing is to have fun no matter who you are. Dancing is a wonderful way to boost your feelings and live a happier life.
63.How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 3?

There are many animals that glow (发光) in some way—including several kinds of insects and fish. Some kinds of mushrooms glow, too. But plants don’t glow. Now, scientists are working to change that.
When a living thing gives off a glow, it’s called bioluminescence (生物发光). Fireflies are a well-known example of bioluminescence. Though less well-known, many mushrooms are also bioluminescent. These bioluminescent creatures light up thanks to the luciferins (荧光素) in their bodies.
Plants don’t naturally have luciferins, ________. But that hasn’t stopped scientists from trying to create them. In the past, scientists have created dimly (微暗地) glowing plants by adding DNA from glowing objects. Scientists have also created glowing plants by adding luciferins to plants. But it only works as long as the chemicals last. In 2017, a team was able to cause a plant to glow for about four hours.
Now, researchers at a Russian company have come up with a new method to create glowing plants which last as long as the plants are alive. By adding certain parts of the DNA from glowing mushrooms to ordinary tobacco plants, the researchers were able to create plants that could make their own luciferins. The scientists reported that the light was about 10 times brighter than in earlier glowing plants.
The researchers believe that glowing plants could help scientists learn more about how plants work. For example, waves of light in the plants may show activities in plants that normally can’t be seen. The glowing also helps show how plants may be affected by things around them. For example, the plants glowed more strongly when a ripe (成熟的) banana skin was nearby. But the researchers don’t think the plants will just be used for science. They think many people may want glowing plants for their beauty. So they are working with a company to develop glowing plants for sale.
68.What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Several kinds of insects and fish can glow. B.Some kinds of mushrooms glow.
C.Fireflies can naturally glow. D.Plants don’t give off a glow.
69.Which of the following is the best to fill in the “________” in Paragraph 3?

B.because the luciferins are so important to them
C.and scientists don’t know why it happens
D.so there are no naturally bioluminescent plants
70.What is the main idea of paragraph 5?
A.The harmful influence of glowing plants.

Do you often exercise just before going to bed? Research has found that taking part in high-intensity (高强度的) exercise less than two hours before you go to bed may have a bad influence on how well you sleep.
73 However, researchers from Concordia University in Canada wanted to find out if the time you exercise could influence how well you sleep too.
The researchers reviewed 15 studies to see how one session (段) of exercise before bed influenced the sleep of healthy adults aged 18 to 50. 74 The studies had data from a total of 194 people. 75 They also looked at how long they waited before going to bed—less than two hours, around two hours, or two to four hours.
The researchers also looked at how fit the people who took part in the study were, how long they spent exercising and how intense their exercise was.
76 Participants who exercised too close to bedtime took longer to fall asleep, and slept for a shorter amount of time. However, the study also found that intense exercise done for between 30 and 60 minutes over two hours before bed helped people fall asleep sooner and sleep better. 77
Cycling was found to be the best exercise to help with sleep.
A.Their results were published in Sleep Medicine Reviews.
B.It was also best to exercise at the same time each day.
C.The researchers looked at whether people exercised during the early or late evening.
D.Because it is more than feeling a little tired after a bad night’s sleep.
E.It found that when exercise ended less than two hours before bed, people slept worse.
F.Should you take part in exercise when you are tired?

58.How many main ways do animals communicate with each other?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.

60.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The enemy. B.The warning sound.
C.The clock. D.The music.

A.To encourage animals to communicate with smell.
B.To show us that animals like to communicate with sound.
C.To introduce animals can communicate in three ways.
D.To tell us that animals can communicate with body language.
62.What would be the best title for the passage?

I started learning calligraphy at eight. At first, it was challenging for me to use the brush to write Chinese characters. My wrist would ache after holding the brush for a long time. Fortunately, with the help of my teacher, I gradually improved. Now, I can write spring couplets for my family every year. It makes me proud.
