根据前文提到的“my mother turned on the dishwasher”以及后文“Mom ordered a new one”可知,此处指洗碗机损坏无法使用,machine“机器”符合语境。
put off“推迟”、dream of“梦想”、worry about“担心”在语义上与主动帮忙洗碗的行为不符。
根据后文“leaving you facing the real work alone”以及“I felt annoyed when seeing a mountain of dishes to wash”可知,刚开始的热情很快就没了。

根据后文“Gradually, I developed my own habit. I always started with…”
根据前文“I felt I could slow down and forget all worries”可知,洗碗能让作者忘记烦恼,因此它是令人放松的时刻,relaxing“放松的”符合语境。
根据后文“I always started with the dinner plates…”,可知作者形成了固定的洗碗流程,habit“习惯”与固定流程的描述相符。

“What should I do?” Ada thought. She saw a clip (回形针) on her desk. She bent it and solved the problem. A smile appeared on her face as she left home.
The sidewalk was covered by ice. Ada almost fell. “I need special shoes for ice,” she said to herself. Right now, she had an idea. She ran back inside, found two of her father’s thick socks, and put them over her shoes. They looked funny, but she walked safely to school.
At school, another problem came. During the break, her friend Fiona cried out, “The gum (口香糖) is stuck in my hair!” The class thought of ways-ice, salad cream... but Ada had a better idea. She put some peanut butter on Fiona’s messy hair. The gum soon became soft and Ada got it out easily. Fiona smelt like peanut butter, but who minded that? Fiona said at lunch, “Ada, you saved my day. My hair is free now!”
After school, Grandma bought her a cup of hot chocolate and drove her home. There were no cup holders in the car. Ada put her cup in her shoe. “Honey, you see solutions everywhere,” Grandma laughed.
At home, she noticed her cat playing with a ball of yarn (纱线), making a mess. Ada saw a small bottle on the kitchen table. She put the yarn ball inside, pulled a piece of yarn through the small hole, and hung the bottle on the wall. The cat couldn’t reach it anymore.

①The World Games is an event held every four years. It is mainly for non-Olympic sports. Chengdu is the first city on the Chinese mainland to host the event. The World Games 2025 Chengdu showed the slogan (口号) “Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders” and the mascots (吉祥物) Shu Bao and Jin Zai at a meeting in Beijing, China.
②The Organizing Committee (组委会) received 3,749 slogans and 1,924 mascot creations. After a careful review, the final slogan and mascots were chosen. The slogan clearly shows how much Chengdu loves sports and how they feel about life.

Smart Technology Brings New Life to Old Communities
In Zhongshan City, a project called “Smart Community 2025” has changed the lives of local people. The project uses technology to solve everyday problems and improve communication among neighbors. Recently, our school did a survey among 200 residents (居民) to learn about the use of smart services in the community. The results are shown in the chart below.
According to the survey, the smart locker (智能快递柜) service is the most popular. Residents can pick up packages anytime using a code on their phones. This is especially helpful for working people who cannot stay at home waiting for delivery.
Mrs. Chen, a 68-year-old retired teacher, shared her experience. “I used to feel lonely after my children moved to Guangzhou,” she said. “But last year, I learned how to use the community APP through a workshop taught by student volunteers. Now I can report problems, join activities, and even chat with my neighbors online. Last week, I signed up for a Tai Chi class through the APP. I made three new friends there!”
Young volunteers also set up a “digital help desk” run every Saturday afternoon to help elderly residents learn to use smartphones. Since January 2025, they have helped more than 80 seniors. The desk is located in the community center, right next to the library.
“Why do we do this? Because technology should connect people, not separate them,” said Li Ming, a 16-year-old volunteer from Zhongshan Middle School. “When I see the smile on an old granny’s face after she video-calls her grandson, I think it’s all worth it.”
The success of the Smart Community project shows that with a little help, technology can bring warmth and connection to everyone.

By Li Ming
Technology has greatly changed the way we live. My father used to spend all day working in the fields. Now, with machines, he finishes his work in just a few hours.
However, these changes also bring problems. My younger brother now spends most of his free time watching videos. He talks less with us and even forgets to do his homework. I worry that while technology connects us online, it may disconnect us in real life.
In my opinion, technology is a tool. Whether it helps or hurts us depends on how we use it.
In a word, technology brings both opportunities and challenges to our daily life.

On a cold Tuesday morning, ten-year-old Ada was almost late for school. The night before, she stayed up designing her block-collecting machine to clean up her little brother’s messy building blocks. As she rushed to put on her coat, the zipper pull (拉链头) broke.

The Smart Ice Cream Shop
In the city center, there’s a special ice cream shop called “Scoop AI”. It doesn’t have any human workers! It is run (经营) entirely by artificial intelligence (人工智能).
When you walk in, a camera scans (扫描) your face. An AI system guesses your age, mood, and even the weather outside. Then, it suggests the perfect ice cream flavor (口味) for you. Feeling sad on a hot day? It might recommend (推荐) “Sunshine Lemon” to cheer you up. Looking tired? It might suggest “Energy Mint” to refresh you.
You place your order on a touch screen. Behind the screen, robotic arms work quickly. They pick up a cone, scoop the ice cream, and even add toppings like chocolate chips or fresh strawberries, all with perfect precision (精准). The whole process takes less than 30 seconds.
Many customers are curious about this new technology. “It’s fantastic,” said a young man named Li Ming. “The ice cream it suggested was exactly what I wanted. It’s like it can read my mind!” However, some older customers miss the personal touch. “I prefer talking to a real person,” said Mrs. Wang. “It feels warmer and more friendly.”

On a cold Tuesday morning, ten-year-old Ada was almost late for school. The night before, she stayed up designing her block-collecting machine to clean up her little brother’s messy building blocks. As she rushed to put on her coat, the zipper pull (拉链头) broke.
