On January 7, 2025, the Palisades fire in Los Angeles burned Charlotte Tragos’s home to the ground. She lost everything: family treasures, memories, and even the marks on the wall that showed how tall she grew as a child. “It was a unique house,” she said. Tragos, along with her family, had to run away quickly, taking only a few things, including her high school diploma (文凭)and a pair of shoes. “The streets were full of people running, driving on the wrong side of the road,” she recalled, adding that everyone knew they were running for their lives.
Days after the fire, a friend sent Tragos a video about a local artist, Jordan Heber, who was offering free watercolor paintings of homes before they were burned. Tragos reached out to Heber, asking if she could paint her childhood home. She wanted to surprise her parents, who were struggling after losing everything. Heber completed the painting in just three days. “It’s an honor to create lasting reminders of places that held so many memories,” said Heber, who lives in Santa Monica.
Tragos was deeply touched. “It means the world to me,” she said. “We have nothing, but this painting reminds us of what our home meant. ” Heber, a brand designer by trade, typically asks for $350 to $400 for custom paintings. However, after seeing another artist’s similar offer, Heber decided to give her art for free to people affected by the fire. “This will be my way to help,” she thought.
Since then, Heber has created over 25 paintings, including one for Jeremy Wineberg, whose family home was also destroyed. Wineberg, who had to leave with only a few personal things, said, “It wasn’t just stuff; it represented my life. ” Jimenez, his wife, found Heber’s offer on a social media and contacted her. “She made such a beautiful memory for us,” Wineberg said, adding that they planned to put the painting on the wall in their new home.
24. What did Tragos mean by saying “everyone knew they were running for their lives”?
A. The rescue work was like a marathon. B. The situation was life-threatening.
C. People struggled to escape as a group. D. People hurried to save their own things.
25. What made Heber offer free paintings to the survivors?
A. A sense of honor to give back. B. A wish to surprise her parents.
C. A plan to serve her community. D. A desire to help people in need.
26. Which of the following can best describe Heber?
A. Caring and generous. B. Wise and responsible.
C. Confident and organized. D. Professional and creative.
27. What would Wineberg probably agree with?
A. Art can help keep memories alive.
B. New homes remove the pain of loss.
C. Losing things is part of starting over.
D. Material things matter more than memories.
B 25. D 26. A 27. A

Blues has been rated as the most popular music, in a study carried out by the University of York — a research project that aimed to address a common frustration (挫折) in daily communication: the stress and impatience people often feel when waiting on the phone.
Researchers watched 2,540 people in a fake phone line so they could see how different sounds make callers feel. Each listener was exposed to one of ten audio experiences, with blues coming out on top ahead of heavy metal, country and pop. Music psychologist Dr Mimi O’Neill said the findings showed that different audio experiences could even influence how long people felt they had been on the phone. “The blues is featured by gentle feelings so you sink into it and in the enjoyment of the experience,” she said. “Metal is fast and can make you more stressed.” The team checked heart rate, mood and alertness (警惕) to see what calms or worries people.
Dr O’Neill said the quality of the music was also key. “We’re really familiar with that broken, compressed (压缩的) music sound when we’re on hold, and if you have something that’s a bit better than that, it’s going to improve the experience.” She also said that instead of playing songs, they tried short quiz questions and general knowledge, and people liked that best. “But there is a small problem: If you do not wait long enough and you miss the answer, it can make you feel more upset,” she added.
28. Why did the University of York do the music research?
A. To advertise blues in phone services. B. To compare music’s psychological effects.
C. To solve people’s annoyance while on hold. D. To prove high-quality music is more popular.
29. What makes blues stand out as hold music?
A. Fast pace keeping callers alert. B. Soft feature helping callers enjoy waiting.
C. Fashion in real phone services worldwide. D. Ability to make callers forget why they call.
30. What might upset callers about the quiz?
A. Slow music. B. Long questions.
C. Too much noise. D. Missing the answer.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. The history of hold music. B. The way to write blues songs.
C. A reason for people to hate phone queues. D. A study on the sound for waiting on the phone.
C 29. B 30. D 31. D

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has greatly changed the field of art creation, starting a popular worldwide argument: Will AI eventually take over artistic expression and replace human artists? Despite AI’s great progress in creating different works, from visual paintings to audio music, it can never fully replace the unique value of real human artistic expression.
Supporters of AI art praise its impressive achievements and growing popularity. Advanced AI tools such as GPT-4, Midjourney and DALL-E can create high-quality artworks rapidly based on large amounts of data and audio-visual materials. For instance, AI artist Refik Anadol’s masterpiece Unsupervised, shown at the famous MoMa in New York, used 380,000 pictures from the museum’s valuable collection, attracting thousands of visitors. Moreover, free and user-friendly AI tools break traditional limits, enabling art lovers to create wonderful works without having long-term strict specialized training.
However, AI naturally lacks real human experiences and the ability to feel deep, mixed emotions. Most timeless art masterpieces are rooted in artists’ personal life experiences and deep emotional changes. Avril Lavigne’s song Head Above Water, inspired by her hard struggle with Lyme disease and a near-death experience, expresses true feelings of sadness and hope. AI, as a cold machine, only creates works through fixed algorithms (算法) and materials, failing to express such slight and sincere emotions. Additionally, it depends heavily on past artistic data and cannot invent new forms, unlike artists like Anicka Yi who create groundbreaking works by challenging traditions.
In conclusion, AI serves as a useful supporting tool for art creation, rather than a real replacement for human artists. It widens art’s limits, improves creation efficiency and makes art more approachable to the general public. Yet, it cannot fully understand the mixed parts of human emotions or create completely new artistic styles. Finally, human creativity rooted in unique life experiences remains irreplaceable in artistic expression.
32. What can we learn about the artwork Unsupervised?
A. It was created without data. B. It set an example for traditional arts.
C. It was popular and shown at MoMa. D. It was the first AI artwork in museums.
33. Why does the author mention the song Head Above Water?
A. To show AI lacks sincere emotions. B. To explain disease inspires artists’ creations.
C. To prove life-struggle songs more attractive. D. To make human artists gain popularity easily.
34. What does the underlined word “groundbreaking” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. proud B. creative C. original D. smart
35. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. AI Art: Tools for Progress B. AI Art: A Challenge to Humans
C. AI vs Humans: Helper or Competitor D. AI vs Humans: Who Wins in Modern Art
C 33. A 34. B 35. C
根据第二段内容“For instance, AI artist Refik Anadol’s masterpiece Unsupervised, shown at the famous MoMa in New York, used 380,000 pictures from the museum’s valuable collection, attracting thousands of visitors. (例如,人工智能艺术家雷菲克·阿纳多尔的代表作《无监督》在纽约著名的现代艺术博物馆展出,它使用了该博物馆珍贵藏品中的38万张图片,吸引了数千名观众。)”可知,《无监督》这幅作品在现代艺术博物馆展出,且非常受欢迎。故选C。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段内容“Most timeless art masterpieces are rooted in artists’ personal life experiences and deep emotional changes. 故选A。
根据第三段内容“Additionally, it depends heavily on past artistic data and cannot invent new forms, unlike artists like Anicka Yi who create groundbreaking works by challenging traditions.

My friend Emma has always been involved in community service. She and her husband founded a clothing center, offering free clothes, shoes, etc. to anyone who needs them.
Then there’s me. I’d never been involved in community service. Instead, I spent my time and money buying snacks, dining out, watching TV and movies etc.
That changed one evening last winter when Emma called me. She told me she needed my help and then asked what I would do the next evening. I replied briefly that I wanted to see a film.
“But David, tomorrow I need your help for several hours at my clothing center,” Emma continued. “I had a family who signed up to help this week, but they’ve got the flu. My husband and I can’t run the place alone.” I hesitated, thinking I might not be able to help since I had never been to her clothing center before. But Emma insisted, saying that the next evening she needed me to boldly go where I had never gone before. Since my friend was desperate, I had to agree.
At 6:45 the next evening, I showed up at the clothing center in an old brick building on Main Street.
“Thank you,” said Emma when I arrived. “It’s really simple. My husband and I will manage the actual clothing room; we just need you to run the welcome table by the door. Have people line up, make sure they know what they need, give them a bag, and then we’ll take them in one at a time. In the past few weeks, we’ve got a ton of donations of clothes, shoes, gloves, etc., so we should be able to help many people.”
The directions seemed clear enough; I figured I could handle it. How many people in my town were going to show up on a snowy Wednesday night for free clothes anyway? At 7:00 pm, Emma unlocked the front door.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

That snowy Wednesday night marked the beginning of my journey into community service.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Looking out, I was surprised by the number of people who would come in. They were of different ages, some in worn-out jackets, and others with tired eyes. Anxious and panicked, I stood by the door, offering smiles and warmth in the cold air. My uncertainties faded as I saw their gratitude. I distributed bags, engaging in brief conversations and learning about their lives in those struggling moments. Emma’s words rang in my mind: “Boldly go where you have never gone before.” I realized it was more than handing out bags; it was about contributing to the community that I had ignored.
That snowy Wednesday night marked the beginning of my journey into community service. The next day, on my way home from work, I stopped before stores to do some shopping for Emma’s clothing center. I considered the varied needs of those who would receive these donations as I selected items. Each choice was aimed at providing warmth and comfort for someone facing challenges. Emma’s call led me not only to a clothing center, but also to a place where empathy and action are connected.
