Are kids too young to volunteer? An 11-year-old American girl, Josephine Lavoie, shows us that kids can make a difference in the lives of others.
Five years ago, Josephine started volunteering by organizing an activity. 31 From then on, Josephine began to look for more ways to help others. She organized beach or waterway cleanup activities. She also made cards for old people in the old people’s homes to cheer them up. 32
Josephine gets her ideas for volunteering from things she learns and people she meets. 33 “I have a few friends from foster homes (寄养家庭),” she said. “Foster kids often don’t have much. So I collected new clothes, school things and books and put them in nice bags. 34 ” Josephine gave the filled bags to at least 400 foster kids.
“ 35 Even the smallest things we do can make the world a better place,” Josephine says.
A.We are looking for some volunteers to help with kids’ maths homework.
B.In this way, the kids will have both new things and nice bags.
C.She will keep on helping more sick kids improve their health.
D.She even started a little free library in her town.

31.空格处在“organizing an activity”之后,“From then on”之前。 G“She collected toys and sent them to kids in a children’s hospital.”
D“She even started a little free library in her town.”
33.空格在“Josephine gets her ideas...from people she meets.” F“One recent idea came from her friends.”
34.空格在“I collected new clothes, school things and books and put them in nice bags.” B“In this way, the kids will have both new things and nice bags.”
E“Although we are young, we need to give back to the world.”

A Meaningful Volunteer Experience
Last month, I took part in a volunteer program at a local animal shelter The shelter takes care of homeless animals, and it needs a lot of help from volunteers. My job was to clean the cages, feed the animals, and play with them. It was hard work, but I enjoyed it because I love animals.
During my time there, I met a girl named Emily. She has been volunteering at the shelter for over a year. She told me that she started volunteering because she wanted to make a difference to the lives of animals. Emily also helps organize adoption (领养) events to find new homes for the animals. I think she is very caring and responsible.
After my first day, I felt tired but satisfied. I realized that even small actions, like cleaning a cage or playing with a dog, can make a big difference. I decided to volunteer at the shelter every weekend. I believe that helping animals is a great way to give back to the community. If more people volunteer, we can create a better world for these animals.
