1. —Is Dr. Ma ________ UNICEF volunteer?
—No, he is ________ ORBIS doctor. He has worked for it for years.
A. an; a B. a; an C. a; a D. an; an
2. It is very kind ________ you to help me, but it is very hard ________you to finish too much work in a short time.
A. for, for B. of, of C. for, of D. of, for
“It is + 形容词 + of/for sb. to do sth.”
3. —Why didn’t you come to my party?
—Because I ________
A. am not invited B. am invited C. wasn’t invite D. wasn’t invited
根据问句“Why didn’t you come...”
4. I was too busy ________ for the exam ________ the match yesterday.
A. preparing;to watch B. to prepare;to watch
C. preparing;watching D. to prepare;watching
【答案】A
结构,意为“忙于做某事”,B、D选项可排除;第二空应为too adj. to do sth.
5. You’d better carry on with another task after finishing the first one. Otherwise, you will be tired out. Just as a saying goes “________”.
A. No pain, no gain. B. The grass is always greener on the other side.
C. Never burn the candle at both ends. D. Actions speak louder than words.
No pain, no gain一分耕耘,一分收获;The grass is always greener on the other side这山望着那山高;Never burn the candle at both ends蜡烛两头烧,精力被耗尽;Actions speak louder than words行动胜于言语。根据前句“you will be tired out”可知,这里强调不要过度消耗精力,应填Never burn the candle at both ends。

I was now in my twenty-seventh year on the island. One evening, Friday went out to look for food. But soon he was back and he looked very afraid.
“Master! Master!” he cried, “There’s a great ship near the island, and men are coming to the shore in a boat!”
I jumped up and ran with him down to the shore. I saw that it was an English ship! But why was it here? English ships never came this way. Perhaps they were pirates (海盗)! “Don’t let them see you, Friday!” I called, “We’ll hide in the trees and watch.”
There were eleven men in the boat, but three of them were prisoners (囚犯). Their arms were tied with rope, but their legs were free and they could walk. The other sailors pushed the three prisoners up the beach, laughing and shouting and hitting them. The three prisoners walked slowly along the beach and sat down under a tree, not far from us. They looked very unhappy.
Very quietly, I came up behind them through the trees, and called out to them in English.
“Don’t be afraid,” I said. “I’m an Englishman. Perhaps I can help you.”
The three men turned and looked at me. They did not answer at once. They were too surprised.
Perhaps they thought I was a wild man myself, in my strange clothes made of animals’ skins, and with my long hair and beard.
Then the oldest man spoke, “I am the captain of that ship,” he said, “and these two men are my first and second officers. Last night there was a mutiny (叛乱), and the seamen took the ship from me. Now they’re going to leave the three of us here, to die on this island.”
“Do these mutineers (叛军) have guns?”
“Only two,” he answered, “and they’ve left those on the boat.”
“All right,” I said. “We’ll fight them. But if we get your ship back for you, you must take me back to England.”
Friday ran back to my house to get all the guns, and the captain and I made a plan.

A volunteer experience
It was March 2018. I was finishing high school. While I was looking forward to my college years, I also felt a strong desire to volunteer abroad. After weeks of serious consideration, I decided to have a gap year (间隔年).
I cannot tell you how many hours I spent trying to find the programme I was most interested in. I contacted many volunteer organizations. In the end, I signed up with “African Impact”. I wanted to make an impact (影响)—no matter how small—on Africa and its people.
I took part in the Child Care Project. We worked in an orphanage (孤儿院) in Cape Town (开普敦) and spent time with a group of orphans (孤儿) between the ages of 0 and 3. There was nothing as exciting as seeing a baby taking her first steps, hearing a two-year-old girl repeat all of the letters in the alphabet after I said them, seeing a little boy kick or catch balls of different sizes, and watching all of the kids carefully wash their hands as it became a habit. These were the skills that I watched the children develop during my time there. My heart was filled with pride.
I also took part in the Teaching Project and worked in a preschool. Teaching was more tiring. Some children were naughty. They didn’t always listen to me. But it’s hard to describe the joy I felt when the kids finally understood what I was trying to teach them.
Volunteering in Cape Town changed my life. It has changed who I am as a person. I cannot be more grateful for this amazing experience

It seems food deliverymen (送货员) are always in a hurry. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets (头盔) and many of them don’t follow traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving.
These rude behaviors have caught the public’s attention.
In the first half of 2017, food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai according to Shanghai Public Security Bureau. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the anxious customers may be the answer.
Many companies will fine a deliveryman up to 2,000 yuan, if he fails to deliver an order on time, reported China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews from customers.
To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to improve their praising systems. Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman gets caught breaking traffic rules more than twice then he will be stopped from driving food service delivery transports for a whole year.
57. How many car accidents did food deliverymen in Shanghai cause in the first half of 2017?
____________________________________________.
58. Why do the deliverymen take the risk of their lives to break traffic rules?

Dear friends,
It is my great honor to make a speech for you. I would like to talk about how to be a good teenager.
First of all, it’s necessary to have good manners in public. For example, we shouldn’t shout loudly in public. It’s wrong of us to drop litter everywhere. When we have meals, we should eat up all the food. It’s a shame to waste food.
In our free time, we should enjoy reading because books are full of knowledge. They can not only make us wiser but help us relax. We shouldn’t be afraid of asking questions. Being curious is a good way to learn more and understand better.

24. What organization did the author sign up with after lots of consideration?
A. African Impact. B. Teaching Project.
C. Homeless Care Project. D. Volunteering in Cape Town.

C. The author was very satisfied with his or her teaching in the preschool.
D. The author looked forward to studying at a good college in Africa.
26. What does the author think of the volunteering experience?
A. Exciting but boring. B. Meaningful and amazing.
C. Tiring and useless. D. Interesting but very hard.
