An 11-year-old girl from Shenyang, Liaoning Province became a hero after she saved a woman from choking by using the Heimlich manoeuvre (海姆立克急救法) — just days after learning it.
The event took place on 8th August, 2025, at a hot pot restaurant in Shenyang, and was recorded by the camera before going viral on social media. Ms. Wu was drinking milk tea when something went down the wrong way and got stuck in her throat. She suddenly couldn’t breathe, so she stood up, gesturing to her partner and restaurant staff that she needed some help. Her partner noticed that, and he tried patting her back. Restaurant staff also rushed to her side to help, but no one knew about first aid.
At that moment, 11-year-old Hu Zihan, who was dining at a nearby table, rushed over. She stood behind Wu, put her arms around Wu’s stomach, and performed the Heimlich manoeuvre. Within 30 seconds, some tapioca (木薯) pearls came out of Wu’s mouth, allowing her to breathe again.
Wu quickly turned around and hugged Hu to thank her. Later, Wu said, “I kept trying to show what kind of help I needed, but nobody understood my body language. Thankfully, that little girl knew exactly what to do.”
It is reported that Hu is a volunteer of the Liaoning Provincial Red Cross Society. She had just learnt the Heimlich manoeuvre during a training lesson seven days before. “The Red Cross says, ‘Everyone should learn first aid, because first aid is for everyone.’ In emergencies, knowing first aid can truly save lives,” Hu said.

Floods (洪水) can be very dangerous, and knowing what to do can help keep you and your family safe. This guide tells you what you should notice during and after a flood.
Never drive or walk through floodwater. Water on the road might look safe, but it is actually not. The water may be deeper than it appears. The moving water can be strong enough to push you or your car away. Also, there can be dangerous things that you can not see under the water, like holes, broken glass, or wires (电线) that carry electricity. You should also stay off bridges over fast-moving water because they can be washed away without warning.
Listen to what local officials say. If you are told to leave your home, go right away. If you can not leave and water starts coming into your house, go to the highest floor. Get onto the roof if necessary, and once there, signal for help.
Be careful with water and food after a flood. Never drink floodwater. Do not use it to wash dishes, brush your teeth, or prepare food. It is dirty and can make you sick. Listen for advisories (通报) to boil water. Your local officials will let you know when the water is safe for use. Throw away any food or drinks that may have come into contact with floodwater.
Keep yourself warm after a flood because temperatures may fall. Try to stay indoors if you can, and wear warm clothes. If you use a generator (发电机) to make power or heat your home, always keep it outside, far away from windows and doors. This is because generators make a dangerous gas called carbon monoxide (一氧化碳) when they run. If the gas gets inside your house, it can make you sick or even cause death. Also, generators may cause fires.
8. According to Para. 2, why is it dangerous to drive through floodwater?
A. The driver will have trouble asking for help.
B. The driver will find it difficult to get out of the car.
C. The water is dirty and can easily make the car broken.
D. The water may be deeper than it looks and may hide dangers.
9. Where should you go first if water enters your house and you can’t leave?
A. Go to the highest floor. B. Go to the roof right away.
C. Go to the bathroom. D. Go to a neighbor’s house.
10. Which of the following is a safe practice?
A. Using a generator inside the house for heat.
B. Running a generator in the house with the door open.
C. Placing a generator just outside the bedroom window.
D. Keeping a generator outdoors, away from the house.
11. How is the information in this passage organized?
A. By importance: most to least important.
B. By time: during and after the flood.
C. By comparing safe and unsafe actions.
D. By stating a problem and then the solutions.
【答案】8. D 9. A 10. D 11. B

The 13-year-old boy has shown interest in insects since long before he started school. With his parents’ help and encouragement, Zhang began to learn about insects by taking part in summer camps, reading books and watching nature shows. He also made many small insect cages and boxes to watch and keep insects at home. Now he has collected over 100 insects, including beetles (甲虫) he found in Fujian and grasshoppers (蚂蚱) from Shenzhen.
It is usually warm in Shenzhen and the city is rich in different insect species (物种), so it is a perfect place to watch insects. “I often look for insects at Tanglang Mountain Country Park, Lianhua Hill Park, Yangtai Mountain Forest Park and OCT National Wetland Park. I’ve recorded about 60 different kinds of insects just at Tanglang Mountain Country Park near my home,” Zhang said. Now Zhang is able to identify over 1,000 insect species.
With his mother’s help, Zhang posted his first video about insects five years ago. In the video, he put two kinds of stick insects (竹节虫) on his hands and explained what they look like, where they live, and how they protect themselves.
Many people online liked the video, which made him excited to share more insect facts. In the past few years, he has added videos about many different butterflies, caterpillars, and beetles to his channel. “I want to encourage more people to understand insects and protect them. It is important to protect all kinds of species,” Zhang said.
12. Why does the writer mention the numbers in the first paragraph?
A. To describe how Zhang loves insects.
B. To show how popular Zhang’s channel is.

B. Different kinds of insects that Zhang has collected.
C. How Zhang’s parents helped him learn about insects.

第三节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容完成表格信息,每空一词。
It’s easy to think of deserts as lifeless, but in reality, many life forms have adapted in extraordinary ways to deal with the terrible environments. And don’t forget—more than a billion people also live in desert regions.
If a place receives less than 25 cm of rain each year, it is called a desert. More than one-fifth of the earth’s land area is the desert. Only about 20% of deserts are covered by sand. Some have mountains, rocks or lakes.
The hottest desert in the world, the Sahara Desert, even reached temperatures of up to 56℃. But some deserts are always cold, like the Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is colder than any other desert in the world. The coldest recorded temperature there is about-89℃. The driest desert, Chile’s Atacama Desert, has parts that receive less than 2 mm of rain a year.
Desert animals have their own ways to keep cool and use less water. Camels can go for weeks and don’t need to drink any water. Many desert animals, such as desert foxes, only come out to find food when the sun goes down. Most desert animals spend much of their time underground to keep cool. Desert plants may have to live without freshwater for years at a time. Some plants grow long roots that get water from deep in the earth. Other plants have roots that spread out a long way so they can receive the rain as soon as it falls, such as cactus.
Life is hard for animals and plants in the desert. But they’ve got used to the life there.

【导语】本文介绍了沙漠的定义、基本事实、不同类型的极端沙漠,以及沙漠动植物为适应恶劣环境而形成的特殊生存方式。
【46题详解】
第二段中“More than one-fifth of the earth’s land area is the desert.”
原文第四段中“Camels can go for weeks and don’t need to drink any water.”表明骆驼可以数周不喝水,表格句子后接动名词“drinking”,需要一个介词表示“不/没有”,因此填without。

4. What does the underlined word “gesturing” in Para. 2 mean?
A. Writing a note for help.
B. Coughing to clear the throat.
C. Making movements with hands, arms and so on.
D. Speaking loudly to get other people’s attention.
5. What did Hu Zihan do first to help Ms. Wu?
A. She patted her on the back hard.
B. She gave Ms. Wu water to drink.
C. She called the 120 hotline right away.
D. She stood behind her and held her stomach.
6. When did Hu Zihan learn the Heimlich manoeuvre?
A. During a school first aid class. B. During a Red Cross training lesson.
C. While watching a medical TV show. D. While surfing online the week before.
7. From the passage, we can learn that Hu Zihan is__________
A. careful and lucky. B. shy and quiet. C. calm and helpful. D. funny and energetic.
C
D
Zhang Heyi, also known as Qi Qi online, runs a social media channel called “Qi Qi’s Insect World”. He has 255,000 followers, more than 1,580,000 likes, and about 250 short videos showing many different kinds of insects.
C. To prove the educational value of insect videos.
D. To compare different nature bloggers’ popularity.
13. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. Zhang’s process in exploring his love for insects.
B. Different kinds of insects that Zhang has collected.

14. When did Zhang post his first insect video?
