Xiang Yun Sha is a special silk with a 1,000-year-long history. Its Chinese name means “Sweet-smelling Cloud Silk”. When people touch this silk, they can sense a sweet smell. This silk comes from Foshan City in China’s Guangdong Province and is famous for its softness and beautiful cloud-like pictures. Long ago, it was used to make clothing for royal families, standing for power and wealth. Today, it is considered as an important part of Chinese traditional cultures.
Making Xiang Yun Sha is a long and careful process (过程). First, the silk is washed 3 times to be clean. Next, it is heated 9 times to make the silk softer. Finally, the silk is dried 18 times under sunlight to make sure it becomes light and smooth. Natural materials like plant liquids and mineral-rich mud are also added to create its special designs. These steps, repeated over weeks, make the silk breathable and quick-drying.
One of the most special things about Xiang Yun Sha is that no two pieces are exactly alike. Each silk shows the skill and creativity of its maker, requiring years of practice to master. It mixes nature—like sunlight, mud, and plants with human craftsmanship (skill in making things by hand). Designers and art lovers around the world admire it not only for its beauty but also for its connection to Chinese traditions.

In ancient times, writing materials were rare (稀缺) and expensive. In China, people used bamboo strips (竹简) and silk to write. Bamboo strips were heavy and took up too much space, while silk was light but far too costly for common people. Writing and reading were activities only for the rich.
Then came a man who would change everything. Cai Lun, an official in the Eastern Han Dynasty, was determined (决定) to find a better way. Around 105 AD, he created a new material by mixing tree bark, old cloth, fishing nets, and hemp (麻) waste with water. He pressed the mixture flat and let it dry in the sun. The result was light, thin, and cheap—the first true paper.
Cai Lun sent his invention to the emperor, who was deeply impressed. Soon, paper was widely used across China. It made writing and reading possible for many more people, and knowledge began to spread faster than ever before.
The art of paper-making remained a Chinese secret for hundreds of years. It spread to Korea and Japan, and later to the Arab world after the Tang Dynasty. In the 12th century, paper finally reached Europe. Before paper arrived, Europeans wrote on animal skin, which was so expensive that few people could afford books. Paper changed that. Suddenly, books became much cheaper, and education was no longer a privilege (特权) of the rich.
Today, paper is everywhere. Without Cai Lun’s invention, the spread of knowledge would have been much slower. Paper is considered one of the most important inventions in human history.

Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so that you forget the time? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seemed to be away.
Most of us have had this experience at one time or another. This special state (状态) of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely pay attention to what we are doing. We feel energetic, even excited about what we are doing. For example, when you are drawing, you might forget to eat dinner because you lose yourself in it. ①
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist (心理学家) Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is low challenging and doesn’t require a lot of skills, we probably feel bored towards it. But facing a challenging task without the required skills could easily cause worry. He finally drew the conclusion that when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens. ②
What advantages does flow bring? During flow, people can work faster and better. For example, artists said that they could produce more works easily “without putting in much effort” in the flow state. Flow can also make people more curious and creative because they have to look for new challenges and information to keep the state. ③
Flow often happens during creative activities and sports activities. But flow states aren’t just something experienced by artists, writers or sports persons. Flow can happen anytime a person is deeply lost in a task, including during learning activities. Many people want to achieve flow more often in their daily lives. While doing a task, having clear plans, adding something challengeable and giving and receiving feedback (反馈) in time can help achieve flow. It’s more difficult to achieve flow if people’s attention are distracted (分散), so it’s necessary that smartphones, TV and other distractions get turned off. ④
16.When people are in flow, they CAN’T ________.
A.forget the time B.hear the ringing of phones
C.give full attention to their tasks D.feel excited about what they do
17.According to Csikszentmihalyi’s study, which diagram (示意图) shows the flow state?
A. B.
C. D.
18.Where can the sentence “With flow, people have greater levels of happiness and satisfaction in their activities.” be put in the passage?
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
19.Who can most probably achieve flow according to the passage?
A.A runner who wants to win the first prize in an important race.
B.An artist who is drawing an apple for his 10—year—old daughter
C.A chess player who doesn’t know what to do before competitions.
D.A student who is taking an exam when having a headache.
20.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The early study on flow. B.The advantages of flow.
C.The requirements for flow. D.The introduction to flow.
二、信息还原
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Would you like to improve your memory? To start with, it is important to understand how memory works.
21 Short-term memory helps you remember things that you only need for a short time, like phone numbers for a call. Long-term memory is the ability to remember things for days, years, or even a lifetime. So the key question is: How do you make sure what you learn enters your long-term memory? By using some clever memory techniques (技巧) and leading a healthy life, you will see some great results. Let’s take a look.
First, pay attention. However, you might fail to remember all the information. So, try taking notes and writing down key points. After all, it is easier to remember a summary than every word in a passage. 22 It means the more you review what you learn, the more likely you will remember it. However, you should not wear out your brain. Try studying for 40 minutes, and then take a break. 23 . Another way is to make use of senses. Use tables, graphs, and mind maps to create images and organize information. You can also turn information into a story and “watch” it in your mind like a film. Besides, use other senses. 24
Last but not least, boost (提升) your memory by staying healthy. 25 While you sleep, your brain organizes your memories. Bad sleep makes it harder for new information to enter your long-term memory. What’s more, eat well. Your brain needs food like an engine needs fuel. Healthy food and drink will help your brain work much better.
A.Second, remember an important rule — use it or lose it.
B.Many students find it hard to remember short-term information.
C.Sleeping well plays an important role in improving your memory.
D.You can also review by discussing with others or by teaching others.
E.For example, listening to recorded information can be very effective.
F.Many students often fail to get enough rest during the daytime and feel tired.
G.There are two main kinds of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory.

61. Stay Positive and Be a Sunny Teenager
As teenagers, we may face different problems in our daily life. For me, the biggest challenges come from study pressure and peer relationships.
Last term, I struggled with heavy schoolwork and often felt stressed, which even affected my friendship with classmates. Later, I tried two ways to solve them. First, I made a daily study plan to manage my time better, and asked teachers for help when I met difficulties. Second, I started to communicate more with my classmates, and we even studied together after class.
From my experience, I realized that we should face problems bravely instead of avoiding them. Talking to people we trust is also a good way to cheer ourselves up.
