When I was in Grade 8, my Chinese teacher asked our class to join a volunteer program to tell visitors about Beijing’s Central Axis. At first, I thought it would be an easy job — just recite a script and answer some simple questions. But I soon found out how wrong I was.
First, we had a one-month training course. We learned about every building along the 7.8-kilometer Central Axis, from the Yongding Gate to the Bell and Drum Towers. We had to remember not only their names and ages, but also the stories behind them, the architectural skills, and their role in Beijing’s history. I spent every evening reading books and watching documentaries about the Central Axis, and my notebook was filled with notes.
The first day I started my volunteer work, I stood in front of the Gate of Heavenly Peace, holding a small speaker, my hands shaking. When a group of visitors came to me and asked me to tell them about the gate, I opened my mouth, but the words I had recited hundreds of times suddenly disappeared. I stood there, red-faced, and finally managed to say a few simple sentences. I felt so upset that I wanted to give up.
That evening, my teacher talked to me. “The best guide isn’t the one who recites the script perfectly,” she said. “It’s the one who tells the story with heart, and makes the visitors fall in love with this city’s history.” Her words made me think a lot. I didn’t give up. Instead, I stopped just reciting the script. I walked along the Central Axis every weekend, talked to old local people, and collected their stories about the old streets. I added these warm stories to my introduction.
Slowly, I became more and more confident. Visitors would listen to my stories carefully, ask me more questions, and smile at me when I finished. Last month, a visitor from another city told me, “Thank you for telling me these stories. Now I don’t just see old buildings — I see the heart of Beijing.”
At that moment, I understood what my teacher had said. I’m not just a volunteer guide. I’m a storyteller, passing on the history and warmth of my city to more people.
24.How did the writer feel about the volunteer program at first?
A. It was easy. B. It was meaningful. C. It was difficult. D. It was boring.
25.What did the writer do after her first unsuccessful volunteer work?
A. She gave up the program and went back to school.
B. She kept reciting the script again and again every day.
C. She collected local stories and added them to her introduction.
D. She asked her teacher to give her another training course.
26.What is the main message the writer wants to tell us?
A. Hard work is the key to becoming a good speaker.
B. Telling stories with heart helps pass on the warmth of a city.
C. Volunteer work can help us make more friends from different places.
D. Learning the history of a city requires lots of reading and research.
C
If you walk around Beijing these days, you’ll find it hard to miss the patches of green everywhere — small pocket parks beside busy roads, rooftop gardens on office buildings, and large urban forests in the suburbs. These are all part of Beijing’s “City Forest” project, which has been changing the city’s environment over the past 10 years.
The “City Forest” project started in 2016, with the goal of building more natural green spaces in the city, and improving the living environment for local people. Unlike traditional parks, which are mainly designed for sightseeing, city forests are built to follow the rules of nature. They use local plants that can grow well in Beijing’s climate, and create a complete ecosystem for birds, insects and small animals. There are no neatly cut lawns or man-made flower beds; instead, there are wild grass, fallen leaves and natural water pools, just like a real forest.
A recent study by the Beijing Forestry and Parks Bureau shows that by the end of 2025, Beijing has built more than 300 city forests, covering an area of over 40,000 mu. These green spaces have increased the city’s forest coverage rate to 45%, and reduced the average summer temperature in the surrounding areas by 2-3℃. They have also helped improve the air quality, and provided homes for more than 150 kinds of wild animals and birds.
“Before, there was only a busy road and some old buildings here. Now, it’s a beautiful forest. I walk here every morning with my grandchild, and we can hear birds singing and see squirrels running around. It’s like having a natural park right at our door,” said Ms. Li, a 68-year-old local resident who lives near a city forest in Chaoyang District.
The project is still going on. According to the plan, Beijing will build another 50 city forests by 2030, and connect all the green spaces together to form a complete green network across the city. “We want to make Beijing a city in the forest, not just a city with forests,” said an expert from the Beijing Forestry and Parks Bureau. “Every person in Beijing can enjoy the beauty of nature, no matter where they live.”
27.What is the main difference between city forests and traditional parks?
A. City forests are larger in size.
B. City forests are built to follow natural rules.
C. City forests have more man-made flower beds.
D. City forests are mainly designed for sightseeing.
28.What do the numbers in Paragraph 3 show?
A. The achievements of the “City Forest” project.
B. The cost of building the city forests in Beijing.
C. The plan for the “City Forest” project in the future.
D. The number of animals living in the city forests.
29.What can we learn from the passage?
A. The “City Forest” project has finished all the planned work.
B. All the plants in the city forests are imported from other countries.
C. The city forests have improved the living environment of Beijing residents.
D. The city forests have made Beijing’s summer temperature lower than other cities.
D
In the age of smartphones and digital messages, we type thousands of words every day, but we hardly ever write by hand. Many of us have forgotten the feeling of holding a pen, and the way our handwriting carries our personality and emotions. But recently, a growing number of people are bringing handwriting back into their daily lives, and finding unexpected value in this old-fashioned skill.
Every time we write a letter, a note or even a shopping list by hand, we are not just putting words on paper. We are creating something unique. Unlike typed words, which are all the same no matter who types them, every person’s handwriting is different. The size of your letters, the angle of your pen, the way you connect the words — all these things show who you are. A shaky line might show that you were nervous, a big, bold word might show that you were excited, a gentle curve might show that you were calm. Handwriting is a mirror of your inner self, something that digital messages can never copy.
Handwriting also helps us think more clearly and remember things better. Many studies have shown that when we write by hand, our brain is more active than when we type. When we type, we just press a key, and the word appears. But when we write by hand, we have to form each letter one by one, which makes us pay more attention to the words we are writing. This slow, careful process helps us understand the content better, and keep it in our memory for longer. Many students say that taking notes by hand in class helps them remember the lessons much better than typing them on a laptop.
What’s more, handwriting can bring people closer together. In a time when we can send a message to someone on the other side of the world in a second, a handwritten letter has become a very special gift. It takes time and care to write a letter by hand. When you receive a handwritten letter, you know that the sender sat down, thought about you, and put their heart into every word. It carries much more warmth and meaning than a typed message. Many people say that a handwritten letter from a friend or family member is something they will keep for years, even for a lifetime.
Of course, we don’t have to give up digital messages completely. They are fast, convenient and perfect for daily communication. But we can also leave some space for handwriting in our lives. Write a letter to a friend, keep a handwritten diary, or just write down your thoughts on a piece of paper. In the fast-paced digital age, handwriting is not just a dying skill. It is a quiet, powerful way to connect with ourselves, with others, and with the beauty of slow, mindful living.
30.Why does the writer talk about the studies in Paragraph 3?
A. To explain why handwriting helps us think and remember better.
B. To compare the differences between handwriting and typing.
C. To show that handwriting is still important for students.
D. To advise people to type less and write more every day.
31.What does the word “bold” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Thin and weak. B. Thick and confident. C. Slow and careful. D. Shaky and nervous.
32.According to the passage, which of the following is a benefit of handwriting?
A. It helps us save time on daily communication.
B. It allows us to send messages to people far away quickly.
C. It carries our personality and brings people closer together.
D. It makes our words look the same as others’ and easier to read.
33.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. The Death of Handwriting in the Digital Age
B. How to Improve Your Handwriting Skills
C. The Unexpected Value of Handwriting
D. Different Ways of Communication in the Modern World
第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(第1-3题每题2分,第4题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
In the heart of Beijing’s old hutongs, there are many small, quiet bookstores that are bringing the joy of slow reading back to the busy city. Unlike the large, modern bookstores in shopping malls, these hutong bookstores are hidden in traditional courtyard houses, with old wooden doors, grey brick walls, and small gardens filled with potted flowers. They are not just places to buy books, but also small, warm spaces for people to slow down and enjoy reading.
One of the most famous hutong bookstores is the Page One Hutong Store in Yangmeizhu Xiejie. It is built in a 100-year-old courtyard house, with three yards connected by narrow paths. There are books about art, literature, and Beijing’s local culture on the wooden bookshelves, and big windows that let in the warm sunlight. Visitors can sit on a wooden chair by the window, read a book, and hear the birds singing in the yard. Many people come here to get away from the busy city life, and spend a whole afternoon reading quietly.
Another popular hutong bookstore is the Sanlian Taofen Bookstore in Nanluoguxiang. It is open 24 hours a day, and has become a safe harbor for night readers in the city. The bookstore has a special area for books about Beijing’s history and culture, and it often holds reading salons, book sharing meetings, and talks with local writers. Many local people and tourists come here not just to read books, but also to meet people who share the same love for reading.
These hutong bookstores are also playing an important role in protecting the old hutong culture. They bring new life to the old courtyard houses, and attract more young people to come to the hutongs, learn about their history, and fall in love with the old streets. They are not just bookstores — they are a bridge between the old and the new, a quiet reminder that in the fast-paced city, we can always find a corner to slow down, read a book, and enjoy the beauty of life.
34.Where are the hutong bookstores usually built?
35.What is special about the Sanlian Taofen Bookstore in Nanluoguxiang?
36.What role are the hutong bookstores playing in protecting the old hutong culture?
37.Would you like to visit a hutong bookstore? Why or why not? (Please give at least two reasons.)

五、文段表达(10分)
①【例文】
I did a survey on my classmates’ participation in activities about Beijing’s Central Axis culture among 40 students in my class.
From the survey, I find that most students have visited the scenic spots along the Central Axis, but only a few have taken part in volunteer guide activities or created works to introduce the Central Axis culture. Many students know little about the stories behind the Central Axis.
To help inherit the Central Axis culture well, I have two suggestions. First, we can take part in the volunteer guide programs on weekends, so that we can learn the history deeply and spread it to more visitors. Second, we can make short videos or hand-copied newspapers about the Central Axis, and share them on social media to let more people know about its beauty. I hope more of us can take action to pass on this precious culture.
②【例文】
In my mind, the most beautiful place in Beijing is the Shichahai Lake Scenic Area hidden in the heart of the city.
It is a place where the beauty of old Beijing and the warmth of daily life meet. You can see clear lakes surrounded by ancient hutongs and traditional courtyard houses, with willow trees swaying gently by the water. In the streets around, you can taste authentic Beijing snacks, hear the dialect of old Beijingers, and visit time-honored temples with a long history.
I love this place so much for two reasons. First, it lets me feel the rich history and culture of Beijing. Every hutong and every old house here has its own story, which tells the past of this city. Second, it has the most down-to-earth warmth of Beijing. Unlike the busy commercial areas, it keeps the quiet and slow pace of old Beijing, making me feel relaxed and at home. It is not just a scenic spot, but a place that carries the soul of my hometown Beijing.

故选 A。
29.A 选项 “‘城市森林’项目已完成所有规划工作” 错误,根据最后一段 “The project is still going on. According to the plan, Beijing will build another 50 city forests by 2030” 可知,项目仍在进行中,并未完成全部规划。B 选项 “城市森林里所有的植物都从国外引进” 错误,根据第二段 “They use local plants that can grow well in Beijing’s climate” 可知,城市森林使用的是北京本地的植物,而非国外引进。

31.根据前文 “A shaky line might show that you were nervous” 和后文 “might show that you were excited” 可知,此处是在说不同的笔迹能反映不同的情绪,shaky(颤抖的)对应紧张,那么 bold 修饰单词,对应兴奋的情绪,结合书写的特点,应该是 “粗重的、有力的、自信的”。
Handwriting is a mirror of your inner self”,第四段提到 “What’s more, handwriting can bring people closer together.”,符合原文表述。

【范文】
