Is the use of Al actors a good idea?
Recently, we had an online vote on this topic. Let’s look at the results!
√YES: Four reasons the use of AI actors is a good idea

When you think of a zookeeper, you might picture someone playing with cute animals all day. But the job is often much harder than it looks. Take Kyle Kirk, the manager of Wildwood Zoo in Wisconsin, as an example. When a huge snowstorm covered the zoo with snow, Kyle stayed at the zoo for three nights to make sure all the animals stayed safe. He moved all the animals indoors to keep them away from strong winds and snow. Also, he had to clear the heavy snow off the roofs to stop the animal houses from breaking.
______? They prepare food for the animals. Different animals have their own special diets. Some eat fruit and vegetables, while others eat meat or insects. Cleaning the animals’ homes is another big job. That means keepers have to check for dangerous things, like broken walls. Besides feeding and cleaning, zookeepers watch the animals closely to make sure they are healthy. They do all this work year-round— weekends, holidays, rain or shine. When bad weather hits, the job becomes even harder.
Being good zookeepers requires many qualities. They are supposed to be patient when animals eat slowly or simply refuse to eat. They also need to stay calm in emergencies and be ready to solve problems. But Kyle said there was something even more important. “It’s easy to learn the skills,” he said. “But if you don’t put your heart into it, the hard days will get you down.” For Kyle, loving the animals matters the most.
In short, zookeepers work hard and take good care of the animals. Behind every healthy animal is a zookeeper like Kyle who puts his heart into the job.
4. Which picture shows Kyle’s work in the snowstorm?
A. B. C. D.
5. Which of the following can be put into ______ in Paragraph 2?
A. What makes good zookeepers B. What are zookeepers’ main jobs
C. Why is zookeepers’ job meaningful D. How do zookeepers deal with bad weather
6. According to Kyle, what is the most important quality for a good zookeeper?
A. The patient attitude. B. The love for animals.
C. The ability to stay calm. D. The problem-solving skills.
7. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce the job of a zookeeper. B. To show how to play with cute animals in a zoo.
C. To encourage people to protect animals. D. To share the ways to take care of animals.
【答案】4. C 5. B 6. B 7. A
【解析】

【5题详解】
原文第二段空后提到“They prepare food for the animals... Cleaning the animals’ homes is another big job... Besides feeding and cleaning, zookeepers watch the animals closely to make sure they are healthy.”,这些内容都是在介绍动物园管理员的主要工作,因此填入“What are zookeepers’ main jobs”最符合上下文逻辑。
【6题详解】
原文第三段提到“But Kyle said there was something even more important... For Kyle, loving the animals matters the most.”,由此可知Kyle认为对动物的爱是优秀动物园管理员最重要的品质。
【7题详解】
全文围绕动物园管理员的工作展开,介绍了他们的日常职责、工作辛苦和所需品质,因此写作目的是介绍动物园管理员这份工作。

Jessica sees Robert on the school bus and sits down beside him.
Jessica: Hey, Robert! You look sad. Anything wrong?
Robert: (in a sad voice) Oh, Jessica, hi. Well, I was thinking about my plan for our group’s science project. It just got rejected(拒绝)by the teacher. I feel like a failure, and I’m afraid I’ll let my team down.
Jessica: I’m sorry about that. Are you going to improve your plan?
Robert: Yes, we got some suggestions from the teacher. But I feel like no matter what I do, it’s never going to be good enough.
Jessica: Don’t let sadness bring you down for too long. When you fail, you learn what doesn’t work. That’s valuable.
Robert: I did learn a lot from the feedback (反馈的意见), but still, I felt sad and embarrassed when everyone saw my plan fail.
Jessica: It doesn’t feel great in the moment, I know. But try to be sanguine— see the failure as a chance to improve instead of a problem to deal with.
Robert: That’s easy to say, but what if our team keeps failing? It’ll kill everyone’s confidence.
Jessica: You’ve heard of Thomas Edison, right? He once said, “I haven’t failed 10,000 times. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated(排除)the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
Robert: Yeah. Steve Jobs, one of the founders of Apple, also said, “It’s impossible to fail if you learn from your mistakes. Don’t give up.”
Jessica: It’s natural to try to avoid failure. But maybe we need it to achieve success.
Robert: But it also wastes time and effort. Aren’t those downsides?
Jessica: Yes. So use the feedback you got from the teacher. Make this failure useful.
Robert: I never thought about it like that. I always focus on the bad effects.
Jessica: It takes courage to start again. But you won’t fail if you never try. Maybe real failure is doing nothing at all.
Robert: (laughs a little)OK, I guess it’s not the end of the world.
8. What problem did Robert face?
A. His plan for the science project failed.
B. The team lost confidence in the project.
C. His team members argued with each other.
D. The teacher refused to give him suggestions.
9. What does the underlined word “sanguine” probably mean?
A. Calm. B. Polite. C. Positive. D. Brave.
10. Why does Jessica use the example of Thomas Edison?
A. To encourage Robert to keep working.
B. To introduce the history of great inventions.
C. To help build the team members’ confidence.
D. To show Edison’s great quality as an inventor.
11. What is the best title for the play?
A. Ways of Staying Positive B. Find Success Through Failure
C. Stay Together as a Team D. Explore the End of the World
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. A 11. B
【解析】
【导语】本文是一段对话,讲述了Robert因科学项目计划被老师拒绝而沮丧,Jessica用名人名言鼓励他从失败中汲取经验。
【8题详解】
根据对话Robert说的话“Well, I was thinking about my plan for our group’s science project. It just got rejected by the teacher.”,可知Robert面临的问题是他的科学项目计划失败了。
【9题详解】
根据Jessica的话“see the failure as a chance to improve instead of a problem to deal with”,可以推断“sanguine”在这里是“积极的、乐观的”意思,对应选项C(Positive)。
