Unlike parents who may get angry sometimes, AI can help with homework and always stay calm. Do you think AI is a better teacher than parents?
I believe parents are better teachers than AI.
First, our parents are closer to us. When we feel worried, they can give us emotional support.
Also, our parents have more real-life experience than AI. With their help, we can deal with our problems better and develop a more positive attitude (积极的态度) toward life.
Although AI provides perfect answers, I would still choose my parents as my teachers. They not only help with my studies but also offer love and support in difficult times. AI is a great tool, but it can never replace (取代) parents.
Song Zexi, 14
I think AI is a better teacher than parents.
Unlike parents, AI always stays calm and patient. This helps families avoid arguments (争吵), which not only improves the parent-child relationship but also makes learning much easier.
AI is also a smart tool that can quickly collect a lot of information and offer more accurate (准确的) and more ways to solve study problems. Besides, AI can work at any time and never gets tired, making learning easier.
Miao Mucheng, 14
When I have trouble with math, AI gives me step-by-step help without losing patience. That makes me feel good. However, parents have something special. They love and care for us in ways that go beyond studying.
My mother sometimes gets angry, but after she yells (吼叫), she also makes me feel better with hugs and kind words. She understands me better and always thinks about my feelings.
In the end, although AI is stable (稳定的) and helpful for studying, my parents who play an important role in every part of my life are better than AI.
Li Yufan, 15

①Pets will be able to ride Hong Kong’s light rail trains with their owners! Starting from 1 May, cats and dogs can travel on the trains during weekends and holidays, according to the MTR Corporation (MTRC), a leading public transport operator in Hong Kong.
②This is a test run that will last for two months. If people want to bring their pets, they need to buy a special pet pass. It takes HK$99 (about 93 yuan) each month. This pass allows (允许) one pet to ride as much as they want on weekends and holidays. However, owners still need to buy their own tickets.
③There are some rules to follow. Owners can only get their dogs and cats to take the train, and the pets must be placed in a fully closed carrier or backpack before entering the station. When getting on the train, owners should use the last door and stay at the back of the train for the whole ride. “This is to balance (平衡) the different needs of passengers,” said Cheris Lee Yuen-ling from MTRC.
④In Hong Kong, pet owners couldn’t take any animals to the light rail stations before, except for guide dogs. If someone breaks this rule, they have to pay HK$3,000. People are mainly worried that pets might cause bad smells or health problems.
⑤Today, some countries and regions (地区) allow people to bring pets on trains. In New York, pets can ride most public transportation if they fit in a carrier. In Europe, pets can travel with their owners on most trains, including those operated by Rail Europe.

It was half past seven on Monday morning: time to get ready for school. Jay Stone rolled out of bed. He did a couple of quick wake-up exercises and then he went over to his mirror and looked at himself.
“Not bad. Stone, not bad,” he said to himself and smiled. Maybe he wasn’t ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes and his thick brown hair, he had the looks that turned girls’ heads. He moved closer to the mirror and smiled, checking his teeth.
“Perfect,” he thought. “Good enough for a toothpaste ad.”
As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. The hours he spent in the gym and doing sit-ups have paid off.
But suddenly, the smile froze. His eyes moved from the upper part of his body down to his legs. His legs were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. He had the upper body of a six-footer, but because of his legs he was much less than six feet! Six inches less! Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls.
Why didn’t his legs grow with the rest of his body? He was one of the shortest boys in his class. He was the shortest in his own family, he was even shorter than his “little” sister by three inches! Where did his legs come from?
He certainly didn’t get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old family photos, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother’s side. His short legs were a gift from Grandpa Tuttle.
Thanks a lot, Grandpa!
Of course, the kids at school all noticed Jay’s short legs and they had a nickname for him: Stubs! Almost no one called him by his real name; they all called him Stubs. Stubs Stone, Jay didn’t like his nickname, but he had to accept it. He had no choice.
But Jay couldn’t see in the mirror what his legs could do. They were quick and strong. He was the youngest player on the Brewer High football team. He could run faster than anyone else in the team and, like a rabbit, he kept going and going. Even at basketball, where the other players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him because of his speed.
Jay shook his head. “Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that’s me,” he said to himself with a little smile. Suddenly, he heard his mother’s voice.
“Jay! It’s breakfast time!”

七、读写综合
(一)阅读并回答问题
Sirish Subash, a 14-year-old student from Snellville, Georgia, US, recently won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
He made a tool that can find pesticides (农药) on fruits and vegetables. This won him $25,000 (about 180,000 yuan) and the title of “Best Young Scientist in America”.
Subash’s idea for the tool came from a simple yet important question. His mother always told him to wash fruit before eating it. The boy wondered if the action did any good.
He learned that 70 percent of fruits and vegetables have pesticides. They can bring health problems like cancer. Washing only gets away part of the pesticides. “If we could find them, we could avoid eating them and lower the risk of those health problems,” Subash said.
This led Subash to invent PestiSCAND, a small tool that people can carry around. It works by shining lights and seeing how light reflects (反射) off food. With the help of a sensor (传感器),a screen and an AI learning model, the tool can find out if there are pesticides around.
To use it, users must point PestiSCAND at the fruit or vegetable to see if they need to wash it again. They can use an app on phones to check the results. During testing, PestiSCAND was right more than 85 percent of the time in finding pesticides.
Subash plans to improve his tool and hopes to get it to market by the time he starts college. His love for science will never go away. “In 15 years, I hope to be designing and building devices (设备) that can help make the world a better place,” said Subash.

Miao Mucheng, 14
When I have trouble with math, AI gives me step-by-step help without losing patience. That makes me feel good. However, parents have something special. They love and care for us in ways that go beyond studying.
My mother sometimes gets angry, but after she yells (吼叫), she also makes me feel better with hugs and kind words. She understands me better and always thinks about my feelings.
In the end, although AI is stable (稳定的) and helpful for studying, my parents who play an important role in every part of my life are better than AI.

61. What did Jay do after he got up on the Monday morning?
A. He did some housework. B. He took some family photos.
C. He watched TV for some time. D. He did some wake-up exercises.

64. Which of the following can describe Jay?

七、读写综合

These days, our local government is calling on us to go green.
What can we do to go green? First, we can save water by turning off taps. Second, we can plant more trees. Third, we can walk or ride bikes instead of taking cars.
Why should we go green? Because our earth is our only home. If we don’t protect it, we will have nowhere to live. Going green also helps save energy and reduce pollution.
