In the morning, we went camping along a path in Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a sunny day. We were expecting an enjoyable two-day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.
However, in the afternoon, when we finished our picnic at one o’clock, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was a shower. Unluckily, none of us brought an umbrella. We ran about but we could find no shelter.
Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were hours to go before we reached the campsite (野营地). It was even worse that our small compass (指南针) showed that we went in the wrong direction. We had lost our way!
We had to make a quick decision as it was raining heavily. Chris said we could set up a tent to shelter us from the rain, so Mary and Tom helped to set up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we were unable to light the fire, as everything was wet. We finally succeeded though. We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about five o’clock, it stopped raining. We decided to give up the camping trip because all of us had been very tired.
This camping trip may not be very successful but we know each other better. And the most important thing I’ve learned from this trip is the importance of team spirit.

Mr. Utterson was sitting by the fire after dinner when he was surprised to receive a visit from Doctor Jekyll’s servant (仆人) , Poole. The old man looked pale and frightened.
“Mr. Utterson, something is wrong,” said Poole.
“Sit down, Poole, and drink some wine. Then tell me all about it,” said Mr. Utterson. Poole sat down. “The doctor’s locked himself up in the study, sir. I am frightened.”
“What are you afraid of?” asked Mr. Utterson. Poole did not answer the question. He said, “I have been afraid for more than a week.” He stopped and stared down at the floor.
“Something terrible is happening to my master. I can’t explain. But... please, sir, can you come with me and see for yourself?”
At once, Mr. Utterson took his hat and coat. Together they made their way to Doctor Jekyll’s house. When they arrived at the house, Poole knocked softly at the front door. The door was opened just a little and a voice from inside the house asked, “Is that you, Poole?”
“Yes. Open the door.”
They came into the hall, and Mr. Utterson was very surprised to find that the room was full of people. Every servant in the house was there. They looked like a crowd of frightened children.
“What are you all doing here? Your master would be annoyed. Don’t you have work to do?”
“They’re frightened,” said Poole. A little servant girl began to cry.
“Mr. Utterson, please follow me.” He led the way across the back garden towards the study.
“Come as quietly as you can, sir. I want you to hear, but I don’t want him to hear you. And sir, if he asks you to go inside, don’t go.”
Again, Mr. Utterson was very surprised. Why did Poole say such strange words?
“Wait here, sir,” whispered Poole. He himself, controlling his fear, knocked on the study door.
“Mr. Utterson would like to see you, sir.” he called.
“Tell him I cannot see anyone,” said a voice from inside the study.
“Thank you, sir.” said Poole. He led Mr. Utterson back across the garden and into the house.
“Sir,” he said, “was that my master’s voice?”

Yes, you read that right: plants that dance. It’s true. I’ve seen them! Udon Thani is a province in Northeast Thailand. There are no big cities there and not as many tourist attractions as there are in other parts of the country. But there is one small plant nursery(苗圃) with one of the most amazing but little-known sights in the world: simple, green plants that look like common weeds(野草).
These special dancing plants are a hybrid(杂交) of the Thani Gyrant and the Chinese Gyrant—the pure parents can’t dance as well as their hybrid child. The scientific name of this type of plant is Codariocalyx motorius(舞䓍).
Let’s go back to the dancing. Walk through the nursery, and we see many bright, eye-catching plants. Deep in the center of the nursery, is a row of these green weeds. These are the dancing plants. “Stand in front of them and sing,” the nursery worker says.
At first it feels silly to sing to a plant. I sing quietly and shyly, and nothing happens. I think about leaving, but I make myself stay and sing longer. Slowly, the plants start opening and closing their little leaves. The longer and louder I sing, the more they move. When I stop, they stop. I test to see if my breath is making the leaves blow—nope. They’re moving because I’m making a sound. It’s unimaginable to communicate with a plant this way. It makes me think very deeply about the ways all living things are alive. Perhaps we’re more connected with the plant world than we think we are.
Why the plant dances is still a mystery—just another sign that we still have a lot to learn about our world.
40.The dancing plants can be found ________.
A.in Northeast Thailand B.in Southern China
C.in India D.in Southern Thailand
41.What can we learn from the text?
A.There are many big cities in Udon Thani.
B.Codariocalyx motorius is as red as apples.
C.The dancing plant is a kind of the Thani Gyrant.
D.Why the plant dances is still unknown.
42.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Blowing to the leaves. B.Communicating with a dancing plant.
C.Working in the nursery. D.Standing in front of a dancing plant.

Recently, someone shared photos from the Luoyang Museum online and there’s a super interesting discovery! A bronze danglu (铜当卢) from over 2,000 years ago looks just like Labubu!

42.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

1.We can add suffix (后缀) “-ful” to the following words to form adjectives except ________.
A.hope B.use C.end D.care
2.He ________ with his left hand, so it feels natural for him now.
A.used to writing B.used to write C.is used to write D.is used to writing
used to writing语法错误;used to write过去常常写(但现在不写了);is used to write被用来写字;is used to writing习惯于写。根据“so it feels natural for him now”可知,此处强调是当前的习惯,D项符合。故选D。
3.It was reported that a variety of new weapons ________ for the first time during the recent Tian’anmen parade.
A.has shown B.have shown C.was shown D.were shown
分析句子可知,主语a variety of new weapons与谓语动词之间是被动关系,再由“during the recent Tian’anmen parade”可知,时态是一般过去时,此处用一般过去时的被动语态,谓语动词构成是was/were done,主语是复数,be动词用were。故选D。
4.—I’m sorry I can’t remember ________ what Miss Liu said.
—It doesn’t matter. I’ll go to ask her myself.
A.luckily B.quickly C.exactly D.wisely
根据“I can’t remember…what Miss Liu said”可知,说话者想表达“记不清原话”,强调记忆的准确性,故选C。
5.He didn’t study for the test, so he ________ won’t get a good grade.
A.quietly B.probably C.loudly D.luckily
【答案】B

因为be used for是固定搭配,意为“被用于……”,后接动名词riding horses,符合马鞍的用途,所以选择used for。
