check on有“查看、检查、看望”的意思;take off是“起飞、脱下”;find out是“查明、弄清楚”;set up是“建立、设立”,这里用check on符合语境。
picked it up是“捡起它”;pushed him away是“把他推开”;fixed it on是“把它固定在……
根据前文“part of her roof had fallen, and water was pouring into her kitchen”,这种情况会让人感到害怕,afraid表示“害怕的”,符合詹金斯太太当时的状态。
根据前文“Once she was safe, Tim knew he had to do...”
A
What It’s Like to Be Human
When AI makes our life easier than ever. What makes us human? A group of high school students in Shenzhen gave their warm and thoughtful answers, touching millions of people.
Yu Yaxuan, a Chinese teacher at Shenzhen Nanshan Foreign Language School, asked her 54 students a special question: “If you could choose only one Chinese character to prove you are not AI, what would it be?” The answers went viral online and started a hot discussion about the meaning of being human.
Two students gave seemingly opposite answers: “urgent” and “slow”. One student wrote that robots can’t understand humans’ hurry, because our sense of time is shaped by emotion, not just time itself. Another student said that while AI always seeks speed and correct results, humans long to slow down with loved ones and enjoy beautiful things slowly.
Other students chose words like “doubt” and “finite (有限的)”. One student asked, “Will AI doubt its creator?” Another wrote, “AI is infinite (无限的), but everything about me is finite. I am more precious because I am finite.” More answers included “courage”, “love”, “regret” and “hurt”.
Ms Yu said, “What moves people is the faint glimmers (微光) of humanity that digitalization (数字化) can’t delete.” These simple words show us: AI can do many things, but the true value of being human lies in our unique emotions, thoughts and limited but precious life.

D. The student hoped AI could be faster and more useful.
14. What does Ms. Yu want to tell us through this special class?
A. Digitalization takes away the beauty of human life completely.
B. A wonderful class is the only thing that can touch people’s hearts.
C. The warmth of humanity still exists in the digital age.
D. AI will finally take the place of humans in the near future.
15. Where can we most probably read this passage?

Is there a market in your neighborhood? A special market called trunk (后备箱) market is getting popular. When night falls, trunks of cars are turned into mobile stalls (流动摊位) on the street. They sell everything from drinks to clothes at good prices. Lots of people would like to buy something each time they pass by.
Those who sell things at the stalls are mostly young people. Many of them say they set up the stalls because of interest. They think they might make some money after work. And the market brings them a feeling of satisfaction. “Every time I work at my stall, I talk with nice passers-by. It feels great to meet new friends,” said a stall owner. “I really enjoy hearing people tell me how good my coffee is,” another stall owner said.
But young people can’t expect to make a lot of money from the stalls because the number of sales would fluctuate. For example, a coffee stall may sell 60 cups of coffee on a good day, but less than 10 cups on another day. When the weather is bad, the cars can’t even go out to the market.
While enjoying the fun of buying things at the trunk market, some people also worry about its development. No one knows for sure if the food there is safe. And when the market closes, rubbish can be seen everywhere on the street. What’s worse, people living in the neighborhood may find it noisy.
