Comics and graphic stories (图像故事) have been popular around the world for over a century. They started as simple drawings in newspapers in the late 1800s. By the mid-1900s, comics grew into colorful books with exciting characters like superheroes and funny animals. Today, they are not just for kids — many adults enjoy them too! Comics use pictures and words together to tell stories. The pictures are placed in panels (small boxes), and characters often speak through speech bubbles.
Graphics novels are similar to comics but are usually longer and tell complete stories in one book. They cover many topics, from fantasy adventures to real-life events. While comics are often short and published weekly or monthly, graphic novels are like thick books that readers can finish in one time. Both use art styles to show emotions — for example, dark colors might mean sadness, while bright colors show happiness.
Teachers have started using comics in classrooms. Why? Because combining pictures and words helps students understand difficult ideas. A science comic might explain how plants grow using images and simple texts. Some students even create their own comics to practice writing and drawing skills. Comics also encourage people who don’t like reading long texts to enjoy stories.
24. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. How to draw speech bubbles correctly. B. Differences between comics and graphic novels.
C. The history of newspaper cartoons. D. Why adults dislike graphic novels.
25. What can we infer about comics from the text?
A. They are only popular with young children. B. They use pictures and colours to express feelings.
C. They are less interesting than regular books. D. They were invented in the 21st century.
26. Why might a teacher use comics in class according to the text?
A. To make complex topics easier to understand. B. To help students enjoy drawing more than writing.
C. To replace all textbooks. D. To encourage students to read fewer books.
27. Which statement about graphic novels is NOT true?
A. They usually tell a full story in one book. B. They are often thicker than comic books.
C. They are published weekly or monthly. D. They can include stories based on real life.
【答案】24. B 25. B 26. A 27. C

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
In recent years, news about sudden cardiac (心源性的) death has become more common. Young people, even teenagers, are sometimes the victims (受害者). This has made many people worry: What causes it, and more importantly, how can we protect ourselves?
Sudden cardiac death happens when the heart suddenly stops working. It often comes without warning. Studies show that there are several reasons behind it. Too much stress and lack (缺少) of sleep can make the heart weak. Besides, most young people today are fond of eating too much fast food or sugary drinks, but unhealthy eating habits can harm the heart over time. Many people think that exercising more can keep their hearts healthy, but exercising too hard without enough rest is not the case. Doing too much hard exercise without enough rest can also be dangerous.
What can we do to prevent it? We should try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Most importantly, don’t push yourself too hard. Regular exercise is good for the heart, but if you feel very tired or uncomfortable, stop and rest. A healthy life and wise exercise can keep us away from sudden cardiac death.
Some schools have started to take action. They put AEDs (自动体外除颤器) in the school, which can save a person’s life if the heart stops. They teach students how to do CPR (心肺复苏). This reminds us that learning some helpful first aid skills can make a big difference in an emergency. It can also help us take action in time before the sudden cardiac death totally happens.

For us students, school life is a special journey that we will never forget.
There’s plenty to enjoy. It is truly exciting to get new knowledge across different subjects. Take math, for example. When we finally work out a difficult problem, the sense of achievement is just like finding hidden treasure. In science classes, experiments open a door to the mysteries of nature. Moreover, the time spent with friends is valuable. During breaks, we exchange the latest gossip, funny stories, or simply relax together. Taking part in sports as a team, such as basketball or football, not only keeps us fit but also creates memories that will last a lifetime.
However, there are challenging times. We have to face mountains of homework and too many tests. Before big exams, we often stay up late to study and lose sleep and free time. And the competition with classmates can be a lot, which makes us feel worried about falling behind.
Thankfully, there are ways to deal with these challenges. To manage the heavy schoolwork, we can create a daily or weekly study plan, deciding when to do each subject according to its difficulty. When facing competition, we should focus on setting personal goals. Every small achievement, like getting a difficult question right, should be celebrated. A sense of satisfaction allows us to feel good about ourselves.
In conclusion, by valuing the happy moments and actively dealing with the challenges, we can make our school days more colorful and meaningful.

①One of the world’s most dangerous sports is mountain climbing, and one of the most popular places for this is the Himalayas. The Himalayas run along the southwestern part of China. Of all the mountains, Qomolangma rises the highest and is the most famous. It is 8,848.86 meters high and is very dangerous to climb. Thick clouds cover the top and snow can fall very hard.
