Have you ever met someone who seemed confident before they even spoke?Confidence isn't
just something you're born with. You can learn it.One of the best ways to start is through your body
language.Your body sends messages all the time. The way you sit, stand and move tells people how
you see yourself. So when you use confident body language, others notice, and over time,it can help
you feel more confident too.
First, start with your posture ()Keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed.Avoid
crossing your arms or looking down. When you walk, move at a steady(平稳的),natural pace.
Rushing can make you look nervous, while smooth movements show that you feel calm and in
control.
Eye contact(眼神交流)is another key.Looking at the per'son you're talking to shows that
you're listening and interested. You don't have to stare at them, just meet their eyes from time to
time.If that feels difficult, try looking near their eyes instead.
Your hands also say a lot about how confident you feel.Keep them relaxed, not hidden in your
pockets.When you shake someone's hand,hold it strongly but friendly.Keep eye contact,smile
naturally, and hold the hand for about three seconds before letting go.
Leaning forward a little while someone speaks is also good, because it can show interest. You
can even mirror small parts of the other person's posture to make the conversation feel friendly and
natural.
Confidence isn't just something you feel inside;it's something you can show with practice. As
your body begins to look confident, your mind often starts to believe it too!
8.Which of the following shows that you are confident?
A.Keep your arms crossed all the time.

A.Body language is more honest than words and hard to change.
B.Good body language helps you make more friends easily.

Urban flooding(城市内涝)is becoming more common as climate change continues.Rising
temperatures are causing sea levels to go up,and experts say this will continue and cannot be
stopped in the next 20 years.
英语试题第3页(共8页)
We've seen major flooding in places like China and the US.One report,The Growing Threat of
Urban Flooding, warns that this is a big problem. In Europe, more heavy rain is expected, especially
in winter, while summers may stay very dry in many areas.
Cities often flood when rivers or the sea overflow. But another reason is that city drainage
systems(排水系统are not strong enough.Cities don't have much open land,so rainwater must be
sent to rivers or sewers ()But if the system can't manage too much water, even light but
steady (rain can cause big trouble.Urban flooding happens when rain hits hard surfaces and
can't soak into the ground.
Some cities are trying new ideas to stop flooding. In Norrebro,a district in Copenhagen, they
use a special pavement (that lets water pass through into the ground. These are not too hard
or expensive to build and keep.Smart technology can also help. The Copemicus Climate Change
Service gives early warnings about flooding in cities to help people stay safe.People can help too.
Using less plastic, reusing rainwater, and not throwing waste or harmful liquids()into drains or
rivers can all make a difference.
In China, the "sponge (city"idea was created in 2013 by Professor Yu Kongjian. These
cities use special designs to catch and clean rainwater, helping reduce floods while protecting nature
and saving water.
12.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How city drainage systems are built.
B.Why cities should have more open land.

13.What does the underlined phrase"soak into"in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Flow over.
B.Go through.

Have you ever met someone who seemed confident before they even spoke? Confidence isn't just something you’re born with. You can learn it. One of the best ways to start is through your body language. Your body sends messages all the time. The way you sit, stand and move tells people how you see yourself. So when you use confident body language, others notice, and over time, it can help you feel more confident too.
First, start with your posture(姿势). Keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed. Avoid crossing your arms or looking down. When you walk, move at a steady(平稳的), natural pace. Rushing can make you look nervous, while smooth movements show that you feel calm and in control.
Eye contact(眼神交流)is another key. Looking at the person you’re talking to shows that you’re listening and interested. You don’t have to stare at them, just meet their eyes from time to time. If that feels difficult, try looking near their eyes instead.
Your hands also say a lot about how confident you feel. Keep them relaxed, not hidden in your pockets. When you shake someone's hand, hold it strongly but friendly. Keep eye contact, smile naturally, and hold the hand for about three seconds before letting go.
Leaning forward a little while someone speaks is also good, because it can show interest. You can even mirror small parts of the other person's posture to make the conversation feel friendly and natural.
Confidence isn’t just something you feel inside; it’s something you can show with practice. As your body begins to look confident, your mind often starts to believe it too!
8. Which of the following shows that you are confident?
A. Keep your arms crossed all the time. B. Shake hands in a strong and friendly way.

C. His behavior mirrors his real thoughts.
10. Which of the following is the correct structure of the passage?
A. B. C.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Body language is more honest than words and hard to change.
B. Good body language helps you make more friends easily.
C. You can learn to be more confident with proper body language.

Urban flooding(城市内涝)is becoming more common as climate change continues. Rising temperatures are causing sea levels to go up, and experts say this will continue and cannot be stopped in the next 20 years.
We’ve seen major flooding in places like China and the US. One report, The Growing Threat of Urban Flooding, warns that this is a big problem. In Europe, more heavy rain is expected, especially in winter, while summers may stay very dry in many areas.
Cities often flood when rivers or the sea overflow. But another reason is that city drainage systems (排水系统) are not strong enough. Cities don't have much open land, so rainwater must be sent to rivers or sewers(下水道). But if the system can’t manage too much water, even light but steady (持续的) rain can cause big trouble. Urban flooding happens when rain hits hard surfaces and can’t soak into the ground.
Some cities are trying new ideas to stop flooding. In Norrebro, a district in Copenhagen, they use a special pavement (人行道) that lets water pass through into the ground. These are not too hard or expensive to build and keep. Smart technology can also help. The Copernicus Climate Change Service gives early warnings about flooding in cities to help people stay safe. People can help too. Using less plastic, reusing rainwater, and not throwing waste or harmful liquids(液体)into drains or rivers can all make a difference.
In China, the “sponge (海绵) city” idea was created in 2013 by Professor Yu Kongjian. These cities use special designs to catch and clean rainwater, helping reduce floods while protecting nature and saving water.
12. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. How city drainage systems are built.
B. Why cities should have more open land.
C. What causes city flooding to happen.
13. What does the underlined phrase “soak into” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Flow over. B. Go through. C. Dry up.
14.. How does the writer develop the text?
A. By introducing a problem and giving solutions.
B. By comparing different cities' flooding situations.
C. By explaining a scientific study about climate change.
15. Where can we likely find this text?
A. In a storybook. B. In a travel guide. C. In an environmental magazine.

阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写到答题卡的相应位置。
Cooperation(合作)comes from friendship, friendship comes from trust, and trust comes from kindness. It's easy to tell that kindness is very important. What is kindness then? To be exact, kindness is the quality(品质)of being friendly. If we give up our seats on the bus, help a classmate solve a math problem, or welcome a new member into a group activity, we are showing kindness. Actually, these acts are done without expectation of reward(回报).
We begin to realize that while helping others, we're in fact helping ourselves. Showing kindness benefits(使...受益)us in different ways. It helps us know about ourselves. It develops our problem-solving skills. It also gives us the chance to be thankful.
We can never imagine the power of one simple act of kindness. It may change our day. And that day may change our week. That week may change the rest of the year---or even our whole life.
In short, we rise by lifting others.
Here are some teenagers’ acts of kindness.
Linda: I sat next to a new student at lunch. I was pleased because I made her day.
Kayla: In order to raise money and protect wild animals, I held a singing competition. I was proud of it.
Peter: I opened the door for an old lady. I felt happy because I could help other people.
