Dear Li Hua,
I’m glad you shared your feelings with me. Many Grade Nine students feel stressed 1 you, so don’t worry, you’re not alone. As the saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Let’s take action with small things.
First, your health is the most 2 thing. Without enough sleep and rest, your brain can’t work well. Try to sleep early. It’s a 3 fact that sleep helps you learn better. Even if your homework isn’t 4 done, it’s better to get some sleep and finish it the next morning.
Second, don’t try to do 5 at once. Make a simple daily plan—focus on one subject at a time. This helps you manage your schoolwork and deal with stress. Every small step is a victory. Just 6 your plan.
7 , communicate with your parents. Tell them your feelings. I’m sure they want the best for you and will understand you. Good communication helps solve problems. 8 you will get support and encouragement from them.
At last, don’t forget to take breaks! 9 some time for things you enjoy like listening to music, playing sports, or just chatting with friends. A balanced life is a happier life.
Li Hua, I believe in you. You have a clear 10 . Keep going with confidence. I’ll always be here for you.
Yours sincerely,
Ms. Lin

feel stressed like you表示“和你一样感到有压力”,符合语境。at、for、to 均无法表达“像……
do with处理,deal with应对,make up编造,均不符合。
由“Good communication helps solve problems...you will get support and encouragement from them.”
spare some time for sth. spend的用法是spend time on sth.,cost和pay均不能表达“留出时间”的含义。

In Anhui, China, an alley (小巷) named Liuchixiang is popular with many visitors. There is an old story behind it. It shows the good quality of tolerance (宽容) in Chinese culture.
During the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Ying, a minister, heard from his family in his hometown Tongcheng City, Anhui one day. From the letter, Zhang knew his family argued with their neighbor Wu about the dividing line of their houses. The local officials couldn’t make them reach an agreement because both families were well-known in the city. Zhang’s family hoped he would force the Wu family to give in.
Then, Zhang wrote a poem back to his family: “Writing a letter from home, miles away, just for a wall. All that fuss over one meter or two. Looking at the ten-thousand-li long Great Wall, long gone is its builder, Emperor Qinshihuang.” His reply made his family understand that getting along well with neighbors was the most important thing. So they decided to move their wall about one meter back for their neighbor. The Wu family were deeply touched by this. They did the same thing too. In the end, the two families created a 2-meter-wide alley between their houses.
Now, Tongcheng is a national historical and cultural city. This narrow alley has become one of its most popular historical sites. It stands as a warm lesson, teaching people to be kind and tolerant rather than seeking the best in everything.
15.Why couldn’t the local officials solve the problem between Zhang’s family and the Wu family?
A.Because the two families didn’t trust the officials.
B.Because both families were famous in Tongcheng.
C.Because the dividing line was too hard to find.
D.Because Zhang Ying was a minister in the capital.
16.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A.Zhang Ying’s poem to his family.
B.The officials’ idea for the dividing line.
C.Zhang’s family moving the wall back.
D.The Wu family’s wish for a wide alley.
17.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Liuchixiang is a 2-meter-wide alley in Tongcheng.
B.The Wu family moved the wall first for their neighbor.
C.Tongcheng is now a new science and technology city.
D.Zhang Ying built the Great Wall with Emperor Qinshihuang.
18.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.A Famous Minister—Zhang Ying B.A Narrow Alley with a Warm Story
C.The History of Tongcheng City D.The Meaning of the Great Wall
【答案】15.B 16.C 17.A 18.B
15.文章第二段明确提到:“The local officials couldn’t make them reach an agreement because both families were well-known in the city.”,因此,官员无法解决纠纷是因为两家都是城中的名门望族,并非因为不信任、界限难找或张英在朝为官。
16.第三段中:“The Wu family were deeply touched by this.”,上文提到张英的诗让家人明白邻里和睦最重要,于是“they decided to move their wall about one meter back for their neighbor”。
17.文章第三段结尾:“...the two families created a 2-meter-wide alley between their houses.”,六尺巷是桐城一条宽2米的巷子。
C
Old people in a care home in England have been making tiny sweaters to help penguins that are saved from oil spills (泄漏) in the sea. These oil spills happen when oil gets into the sea from ships, and they can cause great harm to the penguins.
Penguins produce a special liquid (液体) to make their feathers (羽毛)stay dry in water, which helps to keep them warm. The birds spread this liquid over their feathers so that the feathers can stay smooth. This process is called preening. Penguins spend around three hours preening every day.
However, when the oil from the spill gets onto their feathers, feathers stick together. As a result, the penguins can no longer stay dry or warm. Their skin is open to the cold water, and they are left cold, heavy, and unable to swim or find food. Worse still, when they try to clean their feathers, they take in the oil, which can make them sick and can even kill them.
To clean them up, helpers need to wash oiled birds several times with dishwashing liquid. But when the penguins first arrive, they are often too weak and afraid to be washed right away— they have to rest first. Usually, helpers put the special sweaters, which are made by the old people, onto the penguins. These sweaters keep the penguins warm and stop them from cleaning their feathers, so they do not eat the oil.
People around the world have been making such sweaters that are used to save penguins for over 20 years. For example,438 little penguins in Australia were in an oil accident in 2001, and 96% of them were saved because of these sweaters. The Penguin Foundation charity is now well-prepared for a future oil spill. “We thank the hundreds and thousands of people who used their skills to help protect the 40,000 little penguins.” they said.
19.What does the underlined word “preening” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Smoothing the feathers. B.Swimming in the sea.
C.Looking for food. D.Sleeping on the land.
20.Why do helpers put sweaters on penguins before washing them?
A.To make them look cute. B.To stop them from eating the oil.
C.To help them clean their feathers. D.To help them swim faster in the water.
21.What does the example in the last paragraph show?
A.Sweaters are useful in saving penguins.
B.Penguins are easy to save from oil spills.
C.Many people like making sweaters for fun.
D.Australia has the most penguins in the world.
22.What is the best title for the text?
A.Helping Old People Save Penguins B.The Life of Penguins in Australia
C.The Dangers of Oil Spills to Penguins D.Making Sweaters for Little Penguins
【答案】19.A 20.B 21.A 22.D
19.根据第二段中的描述:“The birds spread this liquid over their feathers so that the feathers can stay smooth. This process is called preening.”,由此可知,“preening”指的就是整理、抚平羽毛的动作。
20.第四段最后一句:“These sweaters keep the penguins warm and stop them from cleaning their feathers, so they do not eat the oil.”,这说明穿毛衣的主要目的是为了防止企鹅在自我清洁时摄入有毒的油污。
21.最后一段提到了澳大利亚的一个案例:“438 little penguins in Australia were in an oil accident in 2001, and 96% of them were saved because of these sweaters.”,这个具体的例子是为了有力地证明穿毛衣这一措施在拯救企鹅方面是非常有效的。

After exercising, the first thing that many of us want to do is drink up a glass of cold water. To feel the water travel down is so good. However, many people have often told me not to do so. Is drinking cold water really unhealthy? What does science have to say about it? Let’s find out.
Cold water is said to slow down a person’s digestion (消化). Most researchers believe that having cold water or a cold drink reduces our body’s temperature. Therefore, the body needs to burn energy to bring our temperature back up to normal. This energy could be spent digesting the food we have just eaten.
Think of your digestive system as a hot pot that cooks food. If someone suddenly throws cold water into this burning pot, what will happen? Doing this will be dangerous. Similarly, when you drink cold water while eating, it’s like adding water to a hot pot.
Of course, it isn’t that bad. But it is a good way to explain why drinking cold water may be a bad idea. That’s why many experts suggest that you avoid drinking water during meals. If you can’t help doing so, drinking water at room temperature is a better choice.
Some studies have found that cold water also makes headaches worse. Dr. Peter Mattson supports this idea. His study found that a lot of women experienced headaches after drinking cold water.
Another problem that often happens as a result of drinking cold water is more mucus (黏液) in your nose and throat. For thousands of years, traditional Chinese medicine has told people not to drink cold drinks. Modern studies have also pointed out that drinking cold water is harmful to your health. So, you’d better not put ice in your water!
23.How does the writer lead into the topic?
A.By asking questions. B.By using numbers.
C.By showing a picture. D.By telling a story.
24.What can we know from Paragraph 2 and 3?
A.Cold water causes high body temperature.
B.Drinking water while eating is a good idea.
C.A hot pot is usually used to heat cold water.
D.The body needs energy to warm up cold water.
25.What might happen if you drink cold water?
A.You might lose the sense of smell. B.You will eat more food for each meal.
C.You may have a headache more easily. D.You may need to buy Chinese medicine.
26.What’s the purpose of the text?
A.To explain how young people keep healthy.
B.To teach people what to do after exercising.
C.To advise people to avoid drinking cold water.
D.To ask people to drink enough water every day.
【答案】23.A 24.D 25.C 26.C
23.原文第一段通过“Is drinking cold water really unhealthy? What does science have to say about it?”
24.第2段提到“having cold water... reduces our body’s temperature. Therefore, the body needs to burn energy to bring our temperature back up to normal”,说明身体需要消耗能量来提升体温,也就是为冷水升温。
25.第5段提到“Some studies have found that cold water also makes headaches worse... a lot of women experienced headaches after drinking cold water”,说明喝冷水可能会加重头痛,让人更容易头痛。
26.文章从多方面分析喝冷水的危害,并在结尾指出“you’d better not put ice in your water”,目的是建议人们避免喝冷水。
A.Practicing and learning from mistakes.Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “Use it or lose it.” Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. “Practice makes perfect.” Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned, and they are not afraid of making mistakes.
B.Developing their study skills.
It is not enough to just study hard. Good learners know the best way they can study. For example, they may take notes by writing down keywords or by drawing mind maps. They also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
C. Asking questions.
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning. Learning is a lifelong journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.
D.Creating an interest in what they learn.
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something interesting.
E. Listening carefully and showing interest in others.
One of the most important things is to listen to the person you speak to. If you are a good listener, you will find some good points to ask questions about. For example, if someone tells you their hobby and you can ask questions about it, they will surely be happy to continue the conversation.
27 David finds English vocabulary boring. To make it fun, he connects new words with his favorite basketball games. He learns sports words, watches the NBA in English and even describes his playing skills in English. So English feels like part of his hobby.
28 Sophia often makes careless mistakes in math tests. Instead of giving up, she keeps a “mistake notebook.” Every time she gets a problem wrong, she writes down the correct steps and explains why she made the mistake.
29 Leo has trouble remembering dates and events in history class. He starts using mind maps. He draws a timeline for each historical period, adds keywords, and uses different colors for causes, events, and results.
30 During a science lesson on electricity, Emma wonders why some materials conduct electricity while others don’t. After class, she asks her teacher, searches online, and discusses with her lab partner.

根据“She promised that no matter…she would face in the future”可知,此处为no matter+疑问词引导让步状语从句,此处从句中谓语face是及物动词,后缺宾语,需用疑问词what指代“面对的事情”,构成no matter what。故填what。

Yours sincerely,
Ms. Lin
