When I was a kid, I had a lot of freckles (雀斑) and cared deeply about my appearance. Every time I looked in the mirror, I felt disappointed. I couldn’t help comparing myself with my cousin Janette, who had perfect, even-toned skin, and I often wished my skin looked like hers. I even avoided taking photos with others, afraid my freckles would stand out too much.
One day, I bought a special cream to fade my freckles. Excited, I put it on and went to work in the garden under the hot sun. I didn’t know then that using the cream in sunlight would make my freckles darker and more noticeable.
When I got home, my family commented on how many more freckles I had. I cried and hid in the bathroom, heartbroken. My grandfather came to check on me, and I told him why I was so sad. He said gently, “There are all kinds of flowers, and they are all beautiful.” I replied, “I’ve never seen a flower with freckles!” and ran to my room.
The next morning, I found a tiger lily on my pillow (枕头). Looking at its spotted petals, I felt calm. Later, Mum told me Grandpa had put it there. His quiet gesture taught me that beauty comes in many forms, even in the things I once disliked about myself.

In small towns, people are used to saying hello to their neighbours, while city people may feel uncomfortable talking to unfamiliar neighbours in public. According to a recent survey, greeting neighbours does good to us, especially when we say hello to six people.
Saying hello helps raise people’s well-being (幸福), and six is the magic number. The well-being score rises from zero to six and stops growing afterwards. The findings belong to the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index which studies overall well-being and is calculated on a scale of (在……范围内) 0 to 100. Researchers spent plenty of time collecting data and comparing different groups to draw this believable conclusion.
The survey collected answers from many Americans and studied social, physical and community well-being. Those greeting six neighbours scored 64.1, much higher than people who greeted no neighbours, whose score was only 51.5. Such clear differences show the power of small daily greetings.
Many believe greeting neighbours only influences social well-being, but regular greetings also improve physical and community well-being, for they are closely connected. You will be more likely to speak to people if you think your community is safe. Your physical well-being can improve if you are getting out and walking around your neighbourhood.
Dan Witters, the survey’s director, says you do not need to know neighbours well. A simple warm greeting is enough. The more people you greet, the more probably you will start a conversation. This kind of small communication slowly builds closer neighbourhood relationships and creates a warmer living environment. Although it is just a survey now, greeting others regularly helps improve your well-being in daily life.
63. What is the magic number for raising well-being by greeting neighbours?
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
64. Which paragraph tells the relationship among social, physical and community well-being?
A. Paragraph 2. B. Paragraph 3. C. Paragraph 4. D. Paragraph 5.
65. Why can greeting neighbours improve people’s physical health?
A. Because people walk outside to meet neighbours.
B. Because they make people eat more healthily.
C. Because they help people sleep better.
D. Because people do sports with neighbours.
66. What is the main idea of the text?
A. How to make friends with neighbours.
B. The importance of greeting neighbours regularly.
C. The differences between town life and city life.
D. How to create a warm living environment.

What should you do when you can’t find time for a long session (一段时间) of exercise? Have you heard of exercise snacks (零食式锻炼)? They are small bursts (爆发) of activity that fit easily into busy days.
Exercise snacks are a popular and creative way for people to keep healthy. Instead of spending hours exercising, people divide one long sports “big meal” into small exercise “snacks”. Each activity can last from 20 seconds to two minutes. You can rest for 30 minutes to four hours before you do another one.
Studies show exercise snacks work as well as common exercise ways. Just three exercise snacks a day are good for your body. What’s more, they bring many other advantages. You can improve your focus (专注力 ) and creative thinking, and get more work done. Besides, snacking throughout the day stops you from sitting for too long.
You can try many kinds of exercise snacks, such as doing sit-ups, skipping rope or walking up and down stairs. If you don’t know how to begin, here are some useful ideas:
● You can do weight-lifting exercises. Most people don’t have weights in offices, so you can lift bottles full of water instead.
● Squats (深蹲): bend your body like you are going to sit down, and keep your back straight. Five to ten squats make a great snack.
●If you dislike common sports, just turn up music. Choose an energetic song and dance. It will be an enjoyable workout that you can do anywhere.
What are you waiting for? Let’s take action. Your body will be thankful!
67. How long can each" exercise snack" last according to the text?
A. 20 seconds to 2 minutes. B. 30 minutes to 4 hours.
C. 5 to 10 minutes. D. More than 20 minutes.
68. What is the use of the first sentence in paragraph 3 “Studies show exercise snacks work as well as common exercise ways.”?
A. To introduce the disadvantages of common exercise.
B. To show the scientific basis for exercise snacks.
C. To compare different kinds of sports.
D. To encourage people to exercise for hours.
69. What does the underlined word “workout” probably mean?
A. Way. B. Moment. C. Action. D. Exercise.
70. What does the writer think of exercise snacks?
A. He thinks they are useless. B. He thinks they are tiring.
C. He thinks they are helpful. D. He thinks they are dangerous.
【答案】67. A 68. B 69. D 70. C
第二段提到:“Each activity can last from 20 seconds to two minutes.” 这说明每次“锻炼零食”的持续时间是20秒到2分钟,因此选A。
【68题详解】
推理判断题。第三段第一句“Studies show exercise snacks work as well as common exercise ways.” 引用了研究结果,说明“锻炼零食”和普通锻炼方式一样有效,其作用是为此提供科学依据,因此选B。
【69题详解】
词句猜测题。倒数第二段提到跳舞:“It will be an enjoyable workout that you can do anywhere.” 结合前文“Choose an energetic song and dance.”可知,跳舞是一种锻炼方式,因此“workout”在此处意为“锻炼”,选D。
【70题详解】
观点态度题。文章最后一段说:“What are you waiting for? Let’s take action. Your body will be thankful!” 以及第三段提到“锻炼零食”有很多好处,说明作者认为它是有帮助的,因此选C。

Eleven-year-old Max had always loved soccer. He played soccer with his team, the Green Dragons. One day, however, it was different because a new player named Jamie joined their team.
As practice began, Max watched Jamie closely. It amazed Max how fast he moved. But Max also noticed Jamie seemed to hesitate when it came to passing the ball.
On a Saturday, the Green Dragons had a match against another team. As the game started, Max rushed forward with the ball. He could hear Jamie shouting, “Max, I’m open!” But Max was too focused on scoring to pass the ball. The shot missed the goal, and Max felt disappointed.
At half-time, Coach Harris gathered the team. “We’re playing well, but we need to remember the importance of teamwork. Soccer isn’t won by one player. It’s about working together.” Max thought of Jamie and truly realized he hadn’t been playing as part of a team.
The second half of the game began. Max made a smooth pass to Jamie. They were communicating with eyes, understanding each other’s movements.
Through their perfect teamwork, they finally won the match. They hugged together, cheered and laughed, taking pride in their team’s achievement. Max felt the warmth of friendship and teamwork. He realized that success isn’t just about winning games, but about the lesson learned along the way—working together.

With a bright future ahead, the Green Dragons knew that together, they could overcome anything.
