Since our school extended the break time from 10 minutes to 15 minutes this spring, I’ve felt much more relaxed during the school day.
This extra five minutes make a big difference to me. I usually walk around the playground with my classmates to stretch my legs after sitting for a long class. Sometimes, I also use the time to ask my teacher questions about the lesson, which I couldn’t do before because the break was too short. The longer break helps us refresh our minds better. It stops us from feeling tired in the next class and lets us get along with friends more.
I really love this change and hope it stays.

Andrew Holleman, a 12-year-old boy, loved playing in the small forest near his home. The forest was a home for the birds, other animals and many different plants. It was also a perfect place for him to study and get to know the nature.
One day, he heard that the local government would cut down all the trees in the forest to build houses. He was very worried that the land and water would be polluted, so he decided to do something. After he spent some time doing research about the area, Andrew wrote letters to the local government and TV reporters. Andrew’s teachers described him as an active boy. His classmates also admired how much he knew about local animals and plants, and the environment. Each day after school, he asked his neighbors for help by going door to door. In only one month, about 260 families supported him.
In the end, his action worked and the local government gave up their plan. Andrew won many prizes for his brave and great work to stop the houses being built, and finally help save the environment.

My sister Alice and I have been trying to get people to stop dropping cigarette (香烟) butts (烟头) for seven years. One day, we were walking in our hometown and saw hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground. They made the town look so ugly that we decided to start a group to make people stop dropping butts. We called it “No Butts About It”.
At first, we drew pictures with “The Earth is not your ashtray (烟灰缸)” written on them. We put the pictures around our hometown—in parks, by beaches, and along roads. We wanted to make people understand that dropping butts hurts the environment. Most smokers don’t think that dropping butts hurts the Earth. But it does, and all rubbish does!
Later, we wrote to companies and asked them for money to help us. We used the money to buy ashtrays to give to smokers. We wanted smokers to carry the ashtrays with them so they didn’t have to drop butts.
At the moment, we are trying to get cigarette companies to put an ashtray in each pack of cigarettes. Some companies want to do it. Many people have started to join our group since it began. Today, there are 45 other “No Butts About It” groups in America.
Now there are even groups in England, Australia and India! Many newspapers have written about my sister and me over the last seven years. And we have won many prizes for what we do. But we are not interested in prizes. We just want to make the Earth a better and cleaner place for animals, plants and people.
One day, it will be.

A.no companies wanted to give money to them
B.the writer believes that the Earth will be a better and cleaner place
C.there are only 45 “No Butts About It” groups in America
D.the writer likes to be on Newspaper and win prizes
22.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.Save Our Town From Cigarette Butts B.Buy yourself An Ashtray
C.Cigarette Butts also Destroy Other Countries D.No Butts Prize

Teo, a history student from London, never thought he could make an AI game. He joined an AI summer camp in China with 55 students from 20 countries. Together, they learned, shared ideas, and made friends.
Teo’s team had students from Cambodia, Romania and China. At first, they were shy, but their common goal—making an English-learning app—brought them closer. “We speak different languages, but we tried to help each other,” Teo said.
Beatrice from Romania noticed cultural differences. “Asian teammates were polite, but Europeans like me were honest,” she said. Soon, they changed: “I became less straightforward (直率), and they spoke openly.”
Theodor from Slovakia worked with students from Vietnam and Cambodia. “No one cared about our differences—we just wanted to succeed together,” he said. Their team made a health app sharing skills.
Local students helped organize activities. They mixed cultures to show strengths (长处) and bridge culture. They also helped students with problems in Beijing.
Besides studying at the AI workshop, students explored Chinese culture. They visited places: some loved traditional clothes, while others admired ancient buildings.

Sometimes, making someone happy is easy—just say a few words that really satisfy him. From strangers to your family and closest friends, there are many nice things we can say to them to bring a little kindness to the world.
However, some people find it difficult to say something nice to others. Recently, the topic “Don’t feel ashamed to give compliments (赞美)” has gone popular on the social media. People shared personal experiences when people felt too shy to say something nice about someone. They also expressed their worries: “What if others think my words are just flattery (奉承)?” “What if I praise someone and only get the cold shoulder?” Because of these fears, some choose to stay quiet, leaving kind words unsaid.
This small habit seems harmless, but it can hide our true feelings. Little by little, we get used to keeping our praise, care and kindness deep inside. Over time, it can change our relationships and even reduce our own sense of happiness. As a result, we may start to feel distant from others.
In fact, saying something nice doesn’t mean we are trying to please others against our wish. Instead, it shows we pay attention to the strengths and efforts of those around us, and we value and respect them.
Simple and sincere praise can warm someone’s heart, reduce misunderstandings (误会) and bring people together. So next time you see your friend wearing a beautiful coat, why not give him a sincere compliment? For example, you can focus on details like “This colour looks great on you!” or “You really have a good taste in music!” These kind words not only make your friend happy but also create a pleasant feeling between you.
Kind words cost nothing, but they can mean everything.
27.Why do some people find it hard to praise others?
A.Because they like to keep their praise inside.
B.Because they think kind words cost too much.
C.Because they may praise others against wishes.
D.Because they worry others will not like their words.
28.What does the phrase “cold shoulder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.A polite and warm welcome. B.A shy and quiet conversation.
C.A silent and unfriendly reply. D.A cold and dishonest manner.
29.The writer mentions “This colour looks great on you” as an example to show that ________.
A.compliments on clothing are always the perfect choice
B.simple and specific praise can build good relationships
C.a simple compliment can sometimes reduce misunderstandings
D.friends usually care more about their appearance than other things
30.What would be the best title of the passage?
A.The Secret to True Happiness B.Why We Should Not Praise Others
C.The Power of a Sincere Compliment D.How to Avoid Misunderstandings
C(A silent and unfriendly reply,沉默且不友好的回应)。
29.作者在第5段举了“This colour looks great on you!”
What brought you and your friends together?
31 Apart from these common reasons, genetics(基因)may also play a role.
According to a US study with 1,932 people, friends have a kinship coefficient(亲缘系数)that is 0.0014 higher than in strangers! The kinship coefficient is an easy way to see how genetically connected two people are. 32
For example, this coefficient is 0.25 between parents and children. For first cousins, it’s about 0.0625. 33 This means you may share more genes with your best friend than with some far relatives.
The question is why people with a high level of kinship coefficient are more likely to become friends. The research team found that most of these shared genes are linked to the sense of smell. 34
Another study also tested sweat(汗液)from 20 pairs of friends and found the smell of their body was more similar than that of strangers.
So next time you hug your friends, you might notice that they smell a little bit like you!
A.Was it shared hobbies or similar personalities?
B.So close friends often have a similar sense of smell.
C.And for fourth cousins, it’s around only 0.001.
D.The higher the number, the closer the relation.
E.So, do you know why close friends look similar now?
35.Why do your friends and you become close?(不超过15词)
31.A 32.D 33.C 34.B 35.We become friends because we share the same hobby.(言之有理即可)
31.根据空格后的句子“Apart from these common reasons, genetics may also play a role”可知,空格处应该提到了“常见的原因”。选项A“Was it shared hobbies or similar personalities?”
32.空格前一句提到“The kinship coefficient is an easy way to see how genetically connected two people are”,空格后一句举例说明了父母与子女、堂表亲之间的系数。选项D“The higher the number, the closer the relation.”
C“And for fourth cousins, it’s around only 0.001.”,延续了这一逻辑,提供了更远亲缘关系的系数,且数值递减,符合语境。
34.空格前一句提到“The research team found that most of these shared genes are linked to the sense of smell.”,选项B“So close friends often have a similar sense of smell.”
参考答案给出的“We become friends because we share the same hobby.”

根据文中“…because I was shy and found it hard to talk to new people.” 若用excited(兴奋的)则与后文理由相矛盾。
根据文中“…about favorite subjects and hobbies.”
根据文中“As we wrote more, the conversations…She shared her dream…and I confided my anxiety…”

根据文中“…Xiaoyu had a hearing impairment.”

A.They made the town smelly. B.They made the town unhealthy.

A.Give ashtrays to the smokers. B.Stop people from buying cigarettes.
C.Pick up the cigarette butts. D.Win prizes for starting groups.

19.What did the writer think about the cigarette butts in the first place?
A.They made the town smelly. B.They made the town unhealthy.
C.They made the town dirty. D.They made the town poor.
20.What does the writer do with the cigarette butts?
A.Give ashtrays to the smokers. B.Stop people from buying cigarettes.
C.Pick up the cigarette butts. D.Win prizes for starting groups.
21.From the passage we can know that ________.

B.Because they think kind words cost too much.
C.Because they may praise others against wishes.
D.Because they worry others will not like their words.
28.What does the phrase “cold shoulder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

A.compliments on clothing are always the perfect choice
B.simple and specific praise can build good relationships
C.a simple compliment can sometimes reduce misunderstandings
D.friends usually care more about their appearance than other things
30.What would be the best title of the passage?

C.And for fourth cousins, it’s around only 0.001.
