Humans have been keeping pets, such as dogs and cats, for ages. But now, artificial intelligence (AI) is changing this tradition by creating robot “pets”, which look and act differently from real animals. These “pets” are changing the way people live, work, and play across China.
Recently, a video of a woman walking a robotic dog in Shanghai went popular online, amazed millions on Weibo. They called it “a scene from the future”. Another popular video showed a robotic dog carrying a real puppy on its back in Chengdu, attracting crowds.
On shopping sites like Taobao, the Go2 quadruped (四足的) robot from Unitree Robotics has sold over 3, 000 ones. Buyers shared photos of the robots playing with children or performing in parks. One parent shared, “Though it looks different from the real dogs, my child loves it so much that we take it out almost every week to have fun—it’s like his best friend!”

After five years away from the Kruger, my wife and I returned last winter to celebrate our 10th anniversary, spending two fantastic weeks in the Park. The true magic of the Kruger lies in its uncertainty. One of the most exciting parts of our trips was to look for the wild animals, especially big cats like lions and leopards (豹). Although we got enough knowledge and preparation, luck is still the most important factor (因素) in these encounters (偶遇).
We spent eight hours driving around the roads of Skukuza on our first morning, without finding any wild animals. As the night drew near, we found ourselves on a quiet road. Suddenly, I found a leopard walking along the roadside. Encounters like these were not common, especially we had the chance of sharing this moment with the leopard alone. I quickly stopped the car and took out my camera as it walked directly towards us. In that short moment, a flood of feelings rushed through my mind: fear, amazement, respect and excitement—all at once. Nature reminds us that we humans are not at the top of the food chain.
Moments later, we received a message that there were lions around here and soon we found five lions crossing the road in front of us. Once again, we were lucky to be alone, we took more photos of these beautiful animals in the perfect evening light before other cars arrived.
On our final morning, we drove from Lower Sabie to Skukuza. About 9km before Nkuhlu Picnic Site, we discovered two lions walking slowly and confidently along the road. They looked straight at us before disappearing into the woods. To me, it felt as if these lions were saying goodbye to us.
As I write this, we're on a flight back home to Finland. I look at my wife and notice her eyes are filled with tears. We both know that this journey will stay in our hearts forever.
23.What is the most important factor in meeting animals in the Kruger?
A.Time. B.Knowledge. C.Luck. D.Light.
24.How did the writer feel when he found the leopard?
A.Excited. B.Tired. C.Calm. D.Relaxed.
25.What is the correct order about the writer and his wife's trip?
①They took photos of lions.
②They flew home with great memories.
③They found a leopard walking along the road.
④They drove around Skukuza but found no wild animals.
A.①④③② B.②③①④ C.④③①② D.③①②④
26.Why did the writer write this passage?
A.To explain how to take photos of animals. B.To give advice on traveling in South Africa.
C.To tell readers about the rules in national parks. D.To describe a special experience with wild animals.

①How would you feel if you couldn’t use the Internet on your phone for two weeks?
②Surprisingly, some people felt better after doing just that! New research suggests that turning off your smartphone’s Internet can improve your mental health, your ability to focus (专注), and your sense of well-being.
③A group of researchers in the United States and Canada wanted to know how turning off the Internet on smartphones would influence people’s feelings. They studied 467 people aged between 18 and 74. These people used a special app that blocked the Internet on their phones for two weeks. They could still make calls and send text messages.
④The researchers asked the people questions about their feelings and tested how well they could focus. The results were very interesting! About 91% of people felt better in at least one area—either their mood (情绪), their focus, or their overall happiness. Seventy-one percent said they had better mental health after the two weeks, and 73% said they had improved well-being. The people also did better on focus tests—like they were 10 years younger!
⑤Looking more deeply into the reasons for these changes, the researchers found that when people weren’t using the Internet, they spent more time outside, got more exercise, met and talked to others.
⑥It was hard for many people to stay offline for two full weeks. In fact, only 25% actually did so! However, even those who only blocked the Internet for part of the time showed improvements. Some people kept using their phones less even after the two weeks were over.
⑦Although completely blocking the Internet from our smartphones might be difficult, the study shows that using it less—like spending less time on some apps—can help us feel better too.
27.What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Sending text messages to friends.
B.Using a special app to play games.
C.Not using the Internet on smartphones for two weeks.
D.Asking questions about people’s feelings.
28.Which of the following question can be answered according to Paragraph 3?
A.What did the focus tests look like?
B.What age group did the people in the study belong to?
C.Why do people feel better after being offline?
D.How many people finished the whole two-week test?
29.What would people probably do after stopping using the Internet according to the study?
A.Start playing online games. B.Watch more videos at home.
C.Stop using phones completely. D.Spend more time doing sports.
30.What happened to some people after the study ended?
A.They wanted to take the tests again. B.They never used their phones again.
C.They used the Internet less than before. D.They used the Internet more than before.

With more and more 56 (家庭) keeping pets at home, the fast development of the pet industry has also caused some problems.
First, some pet owners lack scientific knowledge about pet care, leading to 57 (不同) health problems. For example, feeding pets human food can be 58 (有害) to their health and even cause diseases. Second, the pet healthcare industry has problems 59 (像) unclear pricing and uneven service quality, making it hard to protect consumers’ rights. Moreover, the increasing number of homeless animals has created challenges for society, influencing the environment and 60 (安全) of cities.
To solve these problems, we should take action. First, we need to spread scientific pet care knowledge. Schools and communities can give lessons to help pet owners learn the right way to raise pets. Second, the government should improve management of the pet healthcare industry by setting 61 (公平, 公正) prices and regularly checking service quality. The winter in China is quite different from other countries. That’s because in winter, we celebrate the Spring Festival. 66 is the most important time of the year for us Chinese people.
I’m glad to say that I have 67 traditional but special way of celebrating it: writing couplets. When I stick the red couplets onto the door, the freezing world full of white snow 68 (sudden) seems much warmer. It’s a feeling that’s very special to me.
In fact, I 69 (learn) calligraphy (书法) since the age of six. To start with, I was afraid to put a brush to the paper. But, 70 the old saying goes, practice makes perfect, and so I kept practicing calligraphy in my spare time.
Little by little, I 71 (master) the skill. My Chinese brush finally danced gracefully on the paper and each brush was filled 72 power and confidence.
This year, I even gifted couplets to a foreign neighbor. Surprisingly, he showed strong love for calligraphy from me! How 73 (pride) I was!
Now I realize that writing couplets isn’t just about art, dreams and 74 (wish), but also a bridge to spread our rich culture. Each character on the couplets reminds us that traditions won’t 75 (cancel). Instead, we can pass them on and even spread them to the world.

26.Why did the writer write this passage?
A.To explain how to take photos of animals. B.To give advice on traveling in South Africa.

B.What age group did the people in the study belong to?
C.Why do people feel better after being offline?
D.How many people finished the whole two-week test?
29.What would people probably do after stopping using the Internet according to the study?
A.Start playing online games. B.Watch more videos at home.
C.Stop using phones completely. D.Spend more time doing sports.
30.What happened to some people after the study ended?
A.They wanted to take the tests again. B.They never used their phones again.
C.They used the Internet less than before. D.They used the Internet more than before.

Robot pets are becoming silent partners in China’s modern life. At a Chongqing marathon, they danced like lions and joined 35, 000 human runners. In Zhejiang, one even acted in a traditional opera show, amazing the audience with difficult performances. Except for fun, these robots are also being used in medical and other public services across the country. In Hangzhou, a robot dog named “XiaoXi” sends medicine to elderly people. In Shandong, they carry heavy goods in Taishan Mountain. In Qingdao, robot dogs help firefighters by searching dangerous areas. In Beijing, they patrol (巡逻) the streets and attract attention.
As robots play a bigger role in our lives, China’s robot market is growing fast. A report shows it was worth 468 million yuan in 2023 and may reach 4. 8 billion yuan by 2030. The government also supports this growth and promises to support more AI inventions, including smarter robots, AI-enabled phones and computers, and intelligent robots.

B.What age group did the people in the study belong to?

29.What would people probably do after stopping using the Internet according to the study?
A.Start playing online games. B.Watch more videos at home.
C.Stop using phones completely. D.Spend more time doing sports.
30.What happened to some people after the study ended?

【答案】例文
Hello, everyone! As we all know, AI has greatly changed our life.
First, AI helps us study better. We can practice speaking English with AI apps that correct our pronunciation instantly. Some AI tools even create personalized study plans based on our weaknesses. Second, AI makes our life easier. Smart home devices like AI-controlled lights save energy automatically. Voice assistants can set reminders, play music, or answer questions hands-free. Moreover, AI improves healthcare. Fitness apps track our exercise and suggest workouts. Some hospitals use AI to analyze medical scans faster than doctors.
However, we should use AI wisely and not depend on it completely. The real power comes when humans and AI work together.
Thanks for your listening.
