[2026重庆九龙坡区期中]Have you ever felt too hot at home in summer,
even with the air conditioner running? Scientists have made a new kind of paint.
It can keep houses cooler without using electricity. Let’s find out more about this
wonderful invention!
This special paint is called “cool paint”.Unlike traditional paint that takes in
sunlight, the cool paint works by sending most of the sun’s light away from your
home. It has tiny particles (粒子) inside that are like small mirrors. When
sunlight hits the walls or roofs, these particles send the heat back into the air

instead of letting it enter the house. So, even on the hottest days, your home
stays naturally cool!
The key is in the paint’s materials. Traditional paint often comes in dark
colours that hold heat. But the cool paint uses special colourful powders. These
materials are made to reflect (反射) infrared radiation—the part of sunlight
that makes things feel hot. Some types of the paint even have a shiny surface,
like a thin piece of glass, to help reflect more light.
The cool paint matters for two main reasons. First, when homes stay cool
naturally, people use less air conditioning. This lowers electricity bills.
Ⅰ
Ⅱ
Ⅲ
Ⅳ
Ⅴ
Ⅵ
Ⅶ
Ⅷ
Ⅸ
Second, using less energy helps fight climate change. The cool paint is to make
buildings more “environment-friendly” with lower cost.
You can put the cool paint on any part of a building that gets sunlight, such
as roofs (the best place, as roofs get the most direct sun), outdoor walls and
even outdoor chairs! Some cities are already testing the cool paint on public
buildings like schools and libraries. In hot countries like India and Saudi Arabia,
people use it to keep their homes comfortable.
Scientists are still making the cool paint better. Some new kinds can even
work at night! They send heat from the building into the sky, making the house

cooler after sunset. As more people use the cool paint, it may become a normal
part of building design, helping us stay cool and protect the environment at the
same time.
Next time you see a house with a light-coloured roof or shiny walls, it
might be using this smart invention. Who would have thought paint could be so
“cool”?#1.7

新素材│中国科学家发现月壤中可以提取水
[2026云南昆明阶段练]Recently, a great scientific discovery amazed the
world. Chinese scientists have already found a new method to produce water on
the moon, which could change how we think about living on the moon in the
future! They wrote about their discovery in a science magazine called The
Innovation.Their discovery shows that by using lunar soil (月壤), scientists can
create a lot of water on the moon.

In the past, missions to the moon showed that there might be ice at the
moon’s north and south poles (极).However, there isn’t much water in lunar
soil—only a little bit, like 0.0001 per cent to 0.02 per cent, which makes it hard
to find and use water there. So it’s difficult for people to expect to live on the
moon.
The researchers, however, found something exciting, after studying the rocks
and soil from the moon brought back by the Chang’e-5 spacecraft. One of the
exciting things they discovered is that lunar soil melts (融化) when it reaches
over 1,000 .When it begins to melt, it produces water vapour (蒸气).They

learnt that just 100g of lunar soil can give us 5.1g to 7.6g of water. So, if we
had one ton of lunar soil, we could get between 51 kg and 76 kg of water.
That’s enough to give drinking water to 50 people for one day!
All in all, this research opens up new possibilities for finding water on the
moon. It’s important for future trips to the moon and people who might live
there someday. As we learn more about how to make water from lunar soil, we
get closer to the dream of humans living on the moon. This discovery could help
make that dream come true!#1.1.4

长难句分析
翻译:中国科学家已发现一种在月球上
制水的新方法,这可能会改变我们对未
来在月球上居住的看法!
分析:主句中的to produce water on the moon作后置定语,限定a new method的
用途。非限制性定语从句由which引导,指代前文整个主句的内容(即“月球制水
新方法的发现”),从句中change后接宾语从句how we think about living on the
moon in the future,how引导的宾语从句说明“改变”的具体内容。

[2026山西朔州期中]In Chinese history, there are many great works that
record human wisdom. One of the most remarkable is Tiangong Kaiwu
(The Exploitation of the Works of Nature), written by Song Yingxing during

Song Yingxing was a scholar who cared deeply about the lives of ordinary
people. Unlike most scholars of his time, he didn’t just focus on literature or
politics. Instead, he spent years visiting farmers to observe how things were made.
He believed that true knowledge came from practice, not only from books.
Tiangong Kaiwu describes almost every aspect of daily production in ancient
China, including agriculture, textiles (纺织业), mining (矿业), salt-making,
paper-making, and gunpowder. It includes detailed illustrations (插图) and
scientific explanations, showing how Chinese people used natural materials to
create useful tools and improve their lives. Through this book, we can see the
advanced level of science and technology in China hundreds of years ago.

The influence of Tiangong Kaiwu is far-reaching. It was later translated into
several languages and spread to Japan and Europe, where it helped foreigners
understand Chinese inventions and skills. Some scientists even called Song
Yingxing “the Chinese Da Vinci” for his spirit of observation (观察) and
innovation (创新).
Today, Tiangong Kaiwu still has great value. It reminds us of the importance
of combining theory with practice and respecting the power of human creativity.
In the age of modern technology, Song Yingxing’s work continues to inspire
scientists and students to explore, discover, and create—just as he did nearly four
hundred years ago.#1.5
