Passage 1
(2026·山东青岛·二模)
This Friday brought a mix of emotions — both excitement and disappointment — all because of a poster from school. When I got home, Mum saw the poster in my hand and asked, “What’s this?”
“A poster for a five-day art camp,” I explained. “But Emily can’t go.”
“Would you like to attend?” Mum asked. “You’ve always loved art.” Her words reminded me of what Emily had said earlier: “Tessa, you’re the real artist. My brother thought the roses I painted were rocket ships.” I sighed. Mum patted my back. She knew I had a hard time jumping into something with no familiar faces around. “Maybe next year.”
“Maybe,” I echoed (附和). Then I told Mum I wanted to go outside to draw the Westons’ pine tree (松树). She nodded with an encouraging smile.
As I walked into the bright sunshine, I couldn’t help but think about the art camp. I wished I felt a little bit braver. Emily could make friends with a whole bus of kids in ten minutes, but my stomach felt like a little boat tossed in a heavy storm when I was surrounded by strangers... By the time I started drawing, I had made up my mind to forget about the art camp.
I began by drawing the pine tree’s strong and straight trunk, and then added the beautiful branches, making sure the upper ones lifted gently towards the sun. Lost in my work, I jumped when I heard Mr. Weston speak up, “You’ve done a great job showing the strength of that tree on paper.”
“Thanks,” I smiled, glancing up.
As I drew the needles to the branches, Mr. Weston told me something I never knew about pines: If you plant the root ball too deep, the tree dies. The roots grow outwards, not downwards — to get enough water and air to support the tree.
“You have a good eye, Tessa.” With these words, Mr. Weston nodded goodbye.

Passage 2
(2026·山东肥城·二模)
The annual School Innovation Fair themed “Upcycling” was the semester’s highlight. My classmates excitedly prepared their projects, focusing on technological novelty: using 3D printers to create plastic art, or programming robots to sort waste. The school hall buzzed (嗡嗡声) with energy as students put the finishing touches on their creations. Robots ran across tables, 3D printers worked, and colorful displays showcased everything from solar-powered devices to smart waste-sorting systems. Among this atmosphere of modern invention, I felt increasingly anxious about my own project — an old, worn-out wooden chair that had belonged to my grandfather.
However, my project was different. I chose to repair my grandfather’s old wooden chair. In his workshop, surrounded by the smell of wood and the sound of sandpaper, he taught me how to fix its loose leg and smooth its surface. He showed me how to check each joint, apply just the right amount of glue, and patiently wait for it to dry.
The process was slow and required patience — something completely opposite to the fast-paced world of technology my classmates were exploring. I felt a bit out of place, wondering if my simple, hands-on work had any value compared to their modern inventions. I even doubted whether such an ordinary and old chair could stand out among so many amazing inventions.
As the fair day approached, I nearly gave up. But my grandfather’s words echoed in my mind: “Sometimes the simplest repairs carry the deepest meaning.” Encouraged by his wisdom, I decided to continue. I finished the last piece, feeling the smooth wood beneath my fingers. It was as if I could feel my grandfather’s warmth through the chair. I realized this project was not just about repairing furniture — it was about continuing a family tradition and preserving precious memories. More importantly, it was a special way to connect with my grandfather and carry on the love and care hidden in the old chair.

Passage 3
(2026·山东潍坊·二模)
The summer vacation had one week left, and I decided to hold “Mommy Camp” for my daughters, Grace and Lily. I threw myself into research and planning, trying to get every detail right. Through my careful preparation, it was a week full of crafts, stories, projects and adventures, all wrapped around a fun and educational theme. My husband, Mike, thought I had got so many craft supplies and books, but I just ignored him. I knew what was best for my girls.
On the first day, we tried to make paw (爪子) print paintings with our dog Pete. But Pete wouldn’t stay still. Paint spread everywhere, and the dog ended up purple. The girls laughed, but I felt stressed. Worse still, they soon got bored. “Mom, can we just go outside and play?” Grace asked. “No, we’ll finish the paintings later,” I said firmly. “Let’s do a craft for Pete at the shelter.” We moved on to making dog toys, but I badly underestimated how long each would take. We got only a handful done.
That night, I collapsed in a chair. Mike sat beside me and said, “You look wiped out. Maybe you’re trying too hard. The girls just want to have fun.” I explained that I wanted them to learn something meaningful. Mike shook his head and left me to it.
Over the next few days, we crafted starfish and dolphins from cardboard and drew castles and shells. The girls complained a lot. Lily whispered to Grace, “I wish we could go to the beach.” I pretended not to hear. Every night, I felt down because we didn’t finish everything as planned.
The last day dawned bright and sunny, perfect for visiting the environmental center I’d looked into. But when I double-checked the center’s hours, I found out it had unexpectedly closed for the day. Another letdown.

Passage 1
(2026·山东济南·二模)
When Mum told me to stay with Grandpa for a couple of hours, I was extremely unwilling deep down. “He doesn’t like me,” I said. “Oh, of course he likes you. He’s just sad since Grandma passed away,” Mum replied. We drove straight to Grandpa’s in an uncomfortable silence.
After dropping me off at Grandpa’s apartment, Mum headed to her appointment, promising to come to pick me up soon. Spotting me, Grandpa motioned for me to sit. We glanced up at each other now and then but didn’t say anything. “Want to watch television?” he asked. I nodded. But nothing was on. Two minutes later, he turned the TV off. We sat there, Grandpa patting his legs restlessly, and me trying to find a comfortable position on his old, soft couch.
Suddenly, I felt something hard on the floor beneath the couch. I reached down and pulled it out. It was a wooden box with fancy designs carved into the sides. “Chess?” I said, surprised. “Yeah, I used to play. Do you play?” Grandpa asked. “Never,” I answered. Grandpa fell quiet for a moment, staring at the window and still tapping his legs. Then he suggested that since we had time, he could teach me how to play. I agreed casually.
Grandpa opened the box, a smell of wood polish rising from inside. He taught me about all the pieces and showed me how they moved: the king could move one square in any direction, and the game was won by trapping him; pawns (兵) moved straight forward; knights (马) moved in an L-shape and could leap over other pieces... I was amazed at how patient he was.
We practiced a bunch of times. He just corrected me and had me try again. Finally, when he was satisfied that I knew what to do with all the pieces, he said we were ready to play for real.

Passage 2
(2026·山东德州·二模)
On my twelfth birthday, I got the best present ever — a fishing tackle box. I fell in love with it at first sight: solid and heavy, with six clear plastic drawers holding hooks, sinkers, fishing lines, lures (鱼饵), and a brand-new fishing knife in a small leather bag. I put it under my bed, a safe place where Teddy, my younger brother and the troublemaker of the family, could never get to it.
Dad promised to take me fishing, but he kept putting it off because of work. Weeks later, Dad finally kept his promise. He took me out on a fishing boat named Captain Bob. The sea was calm, and the bluefish were biting like crazy. I caught thirteen fish, including a big one as long as my arm. We were exhausted, but my heart was full of joy.
On the way home, Dad said he wanted to borrow my tackle box to take Teddy fishing the next day. Those words — borrow your tackle box — gave me a strange feeling in my belly. I stared forward. I opened my mouth to say something, but my throat had frozen up. I couldn’t speak. The feeling in my stomach kept getting stronger, and after a few minutes I realized that it was much like a stomachache.
I loved the tackle box so much that I couldn’t bear the thought of Teddy messing it up. That night, I took all the fishing stuff out and hid it under my sweaters. Then I filled the box with old toys, pieces of old cloth, and holey socks — making it feel heavy as usual.
The next morning, I handed the box to Dad. He smiled, gave me a five-dollar bill and praised my generosity. My throat felt tight, and I tried to speak one last time but failed. Dad winked and drove away, the five-dollar bill fluttering like a wounded green butterfly in my hand. Mom offered a nice cold juicy peach, turning to me with a gentle look, but I shook my head and said I had no appetite at all and wouldn’t eat anything the whole day. She looked slightly worried, and asked if I was feeling unwell.

Passage 3
(2026·山东滕州·二模)
I’d always been told to take care of my older brother, Brian, who was born weak and small. I’d often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him. My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel (守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case.
One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was $100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket.
When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up (搞砸). I thought of Brian’s smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty. Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I’d still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian’s demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face, and now we had the best pumpkin ever.
Then the unexpected happened: We came in second. Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold.
If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian’s runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes.
The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos he had taken as the school photographer.

Passage 1
(2026·山东淄博·二模)
Jeremy likes to help his family with chores (家务). He spends time playing with his baby sister while Mom cooks dinner. After supper, he dries the dishes for Dad. But Jeremy’s favorite job is feeding Fletch.
Fletch is the family cat. He is brown and black, with tiger stripes across his back. Fletch lets Jeremy know he’s hungry by bumping his head on Jeremy’s legs.
One night after supper, Mom asked Jeremy to find Baby Suzy’s doll. “I think she dropped it in the back yard this afternoon. She won’t be able to sleep without it. Can you take a look before it gets dark?”
Jeremy opened the kitchen door and ran outside. The bright red doll was easy to find in the grass. Jeremy grabbed it and ran inside.
Later that night, Jeremy was ready for bed. He always said goodnight to Fletch before turning out the light, but Fletch wasn’t in his room. Jeremy looked in the bathroom and hallway. Then he went downstairs.
Jeremy looked in the living room and dining room, but Fletch was not there.
With almost every corner of the house searched, Jeremy could barely see Fletch’s figure, a wave of anxiety sweeping over Jeremy. When he got to the kitchen with butterflies in his stomach, Jeremy began to cry.
Mom looked up from her tea. “Jeremy, you should be in bed! What’s wrong?”
Jeremy gasped (喘息) for breath. “The back door is open!” he cried. “And I can’t find Fletch anywhere!”
Mom frowned. “I think you’re right to be worried,” she said slowly. “Fletch may have slipped out the door.”
Mom hugged Jeremy tight. They sat together until Jeremy stopped crying. “Cats are very smart,” she said. “Fletch will probably come home for breakfast.”

Passage 2
(2026·山东日照·二模)
The Smith family lived in a cozy little house on the outskirts of the town Millfield, surrounded by green grassland and a small forest. Little did they know that their peaceful routine was about to be interrupted by an unexpected guest.
On a hot summer day, their cat, Fluffy, was acting strangely, meowing loudly and staring at the window. Looking outside, they saw a furry creature in their backyard. It was a raccoon (浣熊)! The family was surprised and amused by the visitor, but they didn’t know what to do.
For a few weeks, the raccoon was a constant presence in the Smiths’ lives. The family was divided in their opinion about the unexpected guest. The kids, Emma and Jake, loved having a wild animal around and even named it Rascal. They would often leave bits of food for it to eat and try to pet it through the window. The parents, however, were more concerned about the safety of their family and pets. They wanted to get rid of the raccoon before it caused any harm.
One afternoon, they noticed the raccoon was digging around the flower bed. The family was interested and decided to investigate. To their surprise, they found a family of baby raccoons hiding in a hole!
The discovery of the baby raccoons changed everything. The Smiths realized that Rascal wasn’t just a trouble, but a mother trying to provide for her young. They started leaving food and water for the raccoon and even built a little shelter for the family.
As the baby raccoons grew, they became more adventurous. They started exploring the yard on their own and even ventured into the hallway. But one day, the family woke up to find that Rascal and her babies were gone. They searched the yard and the surrounding area but couldn’t find them. They were sad to see them go but also relieved that they could go back to their normal routine.

Passage 3
(2026·山东临沂·二模)
When I was seven years old, I got my first pet. At the time, my father was a doorkeeper in a school. When fall came around and the leaves began to change colors, his school held its fall carnival (嘉年华). I was so excited to take part in it. After we pulled into the parking lot, I immediately got off the car!
Walking around, I was attracted by a room where there were about fifteen fishbowls and a basket full of Ping-Pong balls. There was only a high school girl in the room. She was in charge of the game. I walked up to her and whispered, “How to play this game?” “Oh. It’s easy. All you have to do is throw a Ping-Pong ball into one of the fishbowls. And if you succeed, you can get whatever goldfish in the bowl you hit,” she said.
“Okay. I can do it. How much does it cost?” I said. The girl replied, “Fifteen tries for a dollar.” “A dollar? A whole dollar? Well ... it is worth it. It is only a dollar, and I have ten of them,” I thought. Then I handed the pretty girl a dollar and she gave me a basket of fifteen Ping-Pong balls. I held the first one in my hand until it was warm. Then I took aim and threw it off. At last, it hit the rim (边) of the closest fishbowl and bounced onto the floor. I was disappointed, but I had fourteen more tries.
Again and again I aimed and the ball bounced but without success. I was down to my last Ping-Pong ball and my spirit was low. I held the Ping-Pong ball for nearly a full minute before I took aim. Then I closed my eyes, and tossed the ball. I stopped breathing and then opened my eyes, only to find the white ball was on the floor. I reminded myself that it was just a fish and tried to hold back the tears in my eyes.
The girl took one look at me and said, “Oh, honey, please don’t cry. Here, I’ll give you an extra shot, just because you tried so hard.”

Passage 4
(2026·山东胶州·二模)
Jane had a deep affection for birds. Every morning, she scattered (抛撒) seeds in her backyard and whispered, “Good morning, my little friends!” To her, their songs sounded like cheerful laughter, and she often laughed along with them.
However, her neighbor, Mr. Thompson, didn’t share her joy. He was constantly annoyed by the birds that flew into his yard. “They’re too noisy!” he complained. “And they make such a mess in MY yard!” His sharp words made Jane feel quite uneasy, yet she refused to give up on her feathered friends. She firmly believed that every small creature deserved care.
One morning, Jane discovered a small sparrow (麻雀) shaking under the fence. One of its wings looked bent at a painful angle. Filled with worry, Jane carefully picked it up and named it Pip. She placed him in a small, warm basket in a safe corner right next to the fence.
A week passed. Pip was getting better but still unable to fly. One afternoon, while Jane was feeding Pip by the fence, Mr. Thompson shouted from his side, “You’re just asking for trouble!” Jane gently lifted Pip in her hands so Mr. Thompson could see him through the gaps in the fence. “Look, Mr. Thompson. Pip’s wing is hurt.” Mr. Thompson cast an impatient glance at the tiny creature. For a moment, his frown (皱眉) softened. “That wing...” he said softly, almost to himself.
Just then, Jane’s mother called her from the driveway, saying they were leaving for a family visit. Jane waved a quick goodbye to Pip and hurried to the car. However, on their way home, a heavy storm broke out. Watching the trees shaking in the strong wind, Jane felt very worried about Pip, who was left all alone in the yard. The moment they pulled into the driveway, she dashed toward the backyard, calling Pip’s name.

Passage 1
(2026·山东东营·二模)
I had spent fifteen years advancing in my corporate career in Seattle, but the corner office and six-figure salary had left me empty. When my marriage ended, I decided it was time for a different kind of life. I bought a cottage in the Idaho countryside, and prepared to start over.
The property came with two elderly neighbors whose land bordered my own. Arnold was eighty-five, with weathered hands from a lifetime of work. Rena moved slowly beside him. They had a magnificent garden — rows of tomatoes, corn, and flowers in every color. But I noticed right away that it was suffering. The weeds were winning, and some rows looked untended. One afternoon, I found Arnold struggling to lift a bag of fertilizer. I carried it for him, and we stood talking for a while.
“You need a garden,” Arnold said. “And I need someone to work this land. These old bones can’t do what they used to.” The arrangement made perfect sense. I would plant, irrigate, and weed. They would teach me what to do and we could share the harvest.
As summer progressed, I found myself arriving earlier each day. I sweated my way through the garden. And when I sat by the creek (小河沟) for a break, I would just listen to the water. Slowly, I began to notice things I had never noticed before: the sound of wind moving through corn, the determination of a pumpkin vine pushing through dry soil. The constant noise in my head — the deadlines, the endless to-do lists — began to quiet.
Arnold noticed my change, “The garden needs you. And you need it, too.” He was right.

Passage 2
(2026·山东东营·二模)
Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher? I do — mine was Mrs White.
I don’t remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. I would bring back what I wrote, and she would look at it and see that there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections. And always a star. Sometimes even a “Good!” was scrawled (潦草地写), which would make my heart soar with happiness. But it worried my mother, so one day when she went in to meet Mrs White for one of those Parent-Teacher meetings, she asked her why she never corrected my mistakes.
And my mother said Mrs White said — The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, about forming sentences. I don’t want to dampen that enthusiasm with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait. The wonder of words won’t ... And what my mother gave me was the gist of what she could remember. The rest I added in. Because I grew up learning to use words with loving confidence like that.
And it occurs to me that if Mrs White had used her red pen more precisely, I probably wouldn’t be telling you about this now. I look back now and think she must have been a rather extraordinary teacher — to exercise such red-pen-restraint. To allow the joy, wonder and excitement of expression flower — however faultily — like that. Because to bloom is better than not to bloom. And a bud once nipped (掐) never opens. May we all be so kind ...
I used to misspell “beautiful” a lot. I never could quite remember that the e went before the a. It exasperated (使气愤) my teacher in high school no end. Eventually the e’s and a’s settled into their right places of their own accord. I’m glad I didn’t wait on them though.

Passage 3
(2026·山东威海·二模)
The ancient oak tree in the school courtyard served as the traditional “memories bank”. On the final day of senior year, students gathered to bury time capsules - letters to their future selves. Mia stood among them, clutching her sealed envelope with a heavy heart. Unlike others filled with hopes and dreams, hers contained a painful confession (忏悔) she had carried for three long years.
Her mind flashed back to the science lab, where her curiosity had led to disaster. Reaching for the school’s antique microscope, she accidentally knocked it from the table. It broke into two parts. She quickly picked them up and put them together. At this moment, the door opened revealing Ben, a quiet classmate, with Mr. Davies behind him. Ben came to fetch the microscope for an experiment. Hardly had he touched the microscope when it split into two parts.
To Mia’s astonishment, Ben quietly claimed responsibility. “I was moving it and it slipped,” he murmured, accepting the teacher’s disappointment that should have been hers. Mia watched in guilty silence as he bore the blame she deserved.
Now, watching Ben place his own letter in the hole and offer her a sad smile, Mia held the envelope tightly in her hand. The breeze rustled the oak leaves like whispering voices. She looked from the freshly dug earth to Ben’s figure, wondering if burying her truth was truly how she wanted to end her high school story.

Passage 1
(2026·山东青岛·二模)
My mom, an experienced professional caregiver, works at a nursing home named Greenfield. Helping and caring for the seniors in need is her routine, the Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默症) patients in particular. And mom always says: “They need me, honey! I must keep a close eye on them in case they forget their way back or get into trouble!”
That really let me down. For thousands of times, how I wished mom could accompany me but not them, especially in the moments like my singing show, school open day, … But “her empty seat” showed everything. Such is my Mom, who is always there for her beloved elders.
As scheduled on Monday morning, our singing contest themed “For Mama” arrived. This was no exception for her! With others’ moms seated, I took my turn standing on the stage, “the empty seat” igniting my eyes! “Need her again!” I thought to myself. The well-prepared song still at the tip of my tongue, I hurriedly finished my part, stepped off the stage, and rushed out of the hall. Anger washed over me nonstop all the time.
After school, head down, I dragged my feet on the road and couldn’t help complaining about mom’s absence. “My ... daughter ... my ...”, an old lady out of nowhere came over to me. She repeated the same words, which added to my annoyance. “Out of my way!” popped out of my mouth, and I quickened my pace to avoid her intentionally.
And almost immediately, I felt a bit sorry for my rude behaviors. So, I slowed down, thinking to myself, “Why is the old lady always murmuring (低语) ‘My ... daughter ...?’” “Is she OK?” “Get lost?” or “Alzheimer’s?” A stream of questions flooded into my mind. Occupied with such guesses, I turned back to look for the old lady. Luckily, she was still standing where she had been. Nevertheless, apart from the repeated “My ...”, I knew nothing more about her. I was totally at a loss what to do next.

Passage 2
(2026·山东菏泽·二模)
“Ka-boom!” Thunder resounded after lightning flashed across the sky. The rain poured down. I had to brave through the storm on the way home from school. I sighed. It just had to rain on the day I forgot to bring my umbrella. Thankfully, there was a taxi stand right ahead, where I could seek some shelter even for a brief moment. Before I could set off on the last part of my journey, I saw a familiar face approaching me with an umbrella. It was my brother coming to my rescue!
Holding the umbrella, we walked home, talking and laughing. Arriving home, we took off our shoes. Then I noticed my brother’s shoes were all wet, with water in them. These shoes were his favorite. He loved playing football very much. These shoes were especially suitable for playing football, so he wore them almost every day. Now they were worn out. I asked him, “Why don’t you ask parents to buy a new pair for you?”
He said, “I don’t want to be a burden(负担), so I haven’t mentioned it to anyone. Although these shoes are a bit old, I can put up with them. Please, my dear sister, don’t tell parents about it.” “You’re so nice. I won’t tell them. Let me dry your shoes first. Later I’ll make you some cookies. You can go to your room to do your homework.”
My heart ached for him. I knew how much he loved playing soccer and how important it was for him to have proper shoes to run and kick the ball. I remembered the kindness he had always shown me, and I knew I had to do something for him. As I promised, I didn’t mention it to my parents, but I knew what I would do next.

Passage 1
(2026·山东泰安·二模)
After finishing my homework, I stretched slightly and glanced at the warm sunset outside the window, ready to go out for a walk to relax my tired eyes. Just as I put on my shoes, my neighbor Mr. Green called me in anxiety, his voice trembling a little over the phone. He said a small fox had been trapped in the fence of his backyard, and it was crying painfully, making his heart ache. I immediately grabbed a pair of thick cotton gloves and a soft towel from the shelf, then rushed to his house as fast as I could.
When I arrived, I saw the little fox huddled (蜷缩) tightly in the corner of the iron fence, its front paw (爪子) firmly stuck between the cold iron bars. Its reddish-brown fur was messy with some dirt and dry grass, and its big eyes were filled with fear and helplessness. Mr. Green stood beside me, looking worried. He told me he had found the fox ten minutes ago while watering flowers, and he didn’t dare to move it, for fear of hurting its paw or making it more frightened.
I knelt down gently, keeping my voice soft to calm the fox down. It looked at me with caution, its body trembling slightly and struggling now and then, but it couldn’t get free at all. I put on the gloves and checked its paw carefully, finding a small cut with a little blood, but no serious injury. I wanted to free it carefully, but I didn’t know the best way to avoid hurting it. Mr. Green held a flashlight to help me see clearly, his hands also a little shaky. We both felt anxious-neither of us had dealt with such a situation before, nor did we know anything about the fox’s habits. We just hoped we could free the poor little guy safely as soon as possible.

Passage 2
(2026·山东济宁·二模)
My Friday morning did not go as planned. On the agenda was cleaning Pawley the parrot’s cage. Pawley, a beautiful bright-blue Indian ringneck, has been a source of entertainment for years. His repeated words include “You’re a good boy!” “Hey, baby!” and “Kentucky Fried Parrot,” and he recently learned to meow. Oh, and he whistles (吹口哨) a number of tunes — his wolf-whistle is spot-on.
He usually shakes and drops feathers everywhere when he bathes, so an outdoor shower is always best. I rolled his cage outside. As usual, I opened the cage door, assuming he would hang upside down and just watch me, like always. He’d never flown away before. This time, he did — flying over the treetops.
Panicked, I whistled his favorite tunes, hoping he’d answer me and lead me to him. No such luck. I headed down the street, wolf-whistling and yelling, “Hey, baby! You’re a good boy!” I quickly realized this might sound a bit odd to my neighbors. I searched nearby yards, peeking over fences and calling his name, but there was no sign of him. Now terrified for Pawley, I felt my heart race. Fear took over. I imagined Pawley starving, falling from a tall tree, or being eaten by a hungry squirrel — each image worse than the last. How could I have been so careless?
Having no other choice, I decided to turn to the Internet. I immediately returned home, fired up my computer, and posted on social media: “Please be on the lookout for our bright blue parrot.” I attached photos and a list of his words, expecting good news.
Just as I was sitting on pins and needles, my phone rang. It was my neighbor Joy. “Hey, Sue! I saw a big blue bird fly across our backyard and land in a tree. I saw your post — could this be your bird?” A bit of relief came over me. I grabbed a banana — Pawley’s favorite — and rushed to Joy’s backyard.

Passage 3
(2026·山东聊城·二模)
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Warm sunlight shone through the window and fell on my balcony. I pulled a small stool outside, took a broom, and prepared to clean the corner that had been untouched for weeks. The gentle wind brought the sweet smell of jasmine (茉莉花) from the garden downstairs. I hummed a little song, enjoying the peaceful afternoon.
As I swept dust and crinkled fallen leaves, a low, soft buzzing sound floated to my ears. At first, I paid it no mind, thinking it was just a few flies mindlessly flying in the sun. But the sound grew louder and steadier as I inched closer to the shadowed ceiling corner. I stood on my tiptoes looking carefully, and my heart skipped a beat — there on the wall, was a tiny, half-built hive (蜂房). Dozens of bees flew in and out, their tiny wings humming, busy building their home.
I stepped back quickly, a surge of fear shooting through me. I’d heard too many stories of painful bee stings, and my mind immediately flew to my little sister, who loved chasing butterflies on the balcony every afternoon. I turned around, rushing inside to grab the can of insect killer, my thoughts racing: get rid of this trouble before anyone gets hurt.
But when I held the cold can in my hand and stepped back onto the balcony, I froze. The bees were so small, so utterly focused on their work, never showing any sign of aggression toward me. They weren’t invaders (入侵者) — they were just tiny creatures, trying to build a safe home, just like my family did in this little apartment.
A wave of guilt washed over me, and I put the can down gently on the windowsill, losing my desire to hurt them. There must be a kinder way for both my family and these small bees. I took out my phone, determined to find a better way to live in peace with nature.

Passage 1
【答案】His words set me thinking. As I reflected on Mr. Weston’s words, the analogy of pine roots growing out, not down, struck a chord with me deeply. Perhaps I could learn something valuable from stepping beyond my comfort zone, just like the tree’s need to spread its roots to grow tall. Surprisingly, even in the absence of my best friend, the idea of the art camp now seemed so appealing. Fueled by this newfound understanding, I eagerly shared my insights with Mum, who listened attentively as I poured out my thoughts. With her approving nod and encouraging gaze, I felt a surge of determination and confidence to embrace the camp as an opportunity for artistic exploration and growth.
The next Monday, I signed up for the camp. As I handed in my registration form, the initial disappointment I felt gradually gave way to a thrilling sense of anticipation, fueled by the countless possibilities awaiting me. Throughout the camp, I immersed myself in interactive workshops, eagerly absorbing new techniques and connecting with fellow art enthusiasts like me. It turned out that the strangers I was initially afraid of were already my friends. From this experience, I realized that embracing unfamiliarity and conquering fears can pave the way for remarkable personal growth and opportunities. The towering pine tree in the Westons’ yard serves as a constant reminder that the strongest growth often springs from venturing into the unknown world.
Passage 2
【答案】One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
At the fair, the high-tech projects were impressive. My classmates’ 3D printed artworks sparkled under the lights, and their waste-sorting robots drew crowds of onlookers with smooth movements. Standing nervously beside my display table, I took a deep breath and told the crowd its story: how it was my grandfather’s favorite chair, how we repaired it together with careful hands and full of love, and how this old piece of furniture held our family's warm memories. I said this was my understanding of upcycling — giving old things a new life while keeping their original meaning.
Paragraph 2:
Touched by my story, the judges awarded my chair a special prize. One judge said with a smile that my work perfectly interpreted the true spirit of upcycling, which is not only about changing the appearance of old things but also about inheriting the emotions behind them. His words made the whole hall burst into warm applause. I looked at my grandfather in the crowd, who was looking at me with pride and tears in his eyes. At that moment, I firmly believed that the most precious innovation is never just about cool technology, but about the love and sincerity we put into what we do, and the courage to keep the warm memories in life forever.
Passage 3

“How about going to the beach?” Mike said. “Yay!” the girls shouted. I glared at Mike. “How is a trip to the beach going to help? The girls needed an activity that was educational. That was the point of Mommy Camp, right?” But Lily and Grace were so excited. I couldn’t say no. So we headed to the beach instead. The girls ran ahead, kicking off their shoes as soon as their feet touched the soft sand. Grace and Lily built a sandcastle with Mike. They collected smooth stones and shells, asking each other why some shells were broken. I sat on the beach, feeling the sun on my face, and for the first time that week, I stopped worrying about finishing a project. Mike joined me with two cold drinks, said nothing, and just smiled.
As we drove home, the girls chatted happily about the “best day ever.” They compared their favorite shells and argued over who had found the flattest skipping stone. Listening to them, I felt a sense of peace. The week had been full of failed crafts and complaints, yet here they were more excited than after any of my carefully planned activities. Mike glanced at me in the rearview mirror and gave a small nod. That night, after tucking the girls into bed, I realized that learning didn’t always need a schedule. Sometimes the best lessons came from simply letting go. I decided that next summer, “Mommy Camp” would have only one rule: Follow the Fun.

Passage 1
【答案】范文
Our first game began and I played with full attention. I carefully moved each piece, recalling Grandpa’s instructions, and even tried to trap his king. Grandpa smiled gently, sometimes nodding in approval when I made a good move. When I accidentally moved a pawn wrong, he didn’t blame me but pointed it out softly and guided me to correct it. The room was no longer silent — we chatted quietly about the game, and I even heard Grandpa laugh for the first time that afternoon. I forgot my initial unwillingness and got totally absorbed in the chessboard.
We were really enjoying ourselves when Mum returned. She stood at the door, smiling in surprise as she saw us leaning over the chessboard, talking and laughing. “I see you two have made friends,” she said. Grandpa looked at me warmly and patted my shoulder: “This kid is a quick learner.” I grinned, feeling a warm connection with him. As we left, I told Grandpa I would come back to play chess with him again. For the first time, I realized that Grandpa wasn’t unfriendly — he just needed someone to share his time with, and that someone could be me.
Passage 2
【答案】 When I opened my mouth, words started pouring out. I told Mom the whole truth in a shaky voice, admitting I’d hidden the fishing gear and stuffed the tackle box with old junk, too selfish to let Teddy use it. Ashamed, I stared at the floor, waiting for her blame. But Mom just sighed and patted my shoulder gently, saying she understood my love for the box yet reminded me honesty and sharing mattered more. Guilt weighed on me as I sat silently, my heart racing, ready to apologize to Dad and Teddy when they came back.
The silence was suddenly broken by Teddy’s excited yell, “We got fish!” The door slammed, Teddy rushing in with a small fish, Dad following with a bucket of catch. I hung my head in guilt, bracing for a scolding. But Dad sat beside me, not a word of criticism. Instead, he even apologized for being reckless, borrowing the box without asking how I felt. His full understanding touched me deeply. I blurted out my sincere apology at once, and Dad smiled gently at me. That night, I filled the box with new lures — and something heavier: the weight of lessons learned, and the lightness of being truly known.
Passage 3
【答案】Paragraph 1:
I was enjoying the photos when one caught my eye. It was a picture of the pumpkin we had carved together. Underneath, Brian had written, “My first real win with my brother. Even if we didn’t get first, it was a victory because we worked as a team.” Seeing those words, a wave of guilt washed over me. I remembered how I had selfishly taken all the money and lied to him. I realized how much I had let him down. I turned to Brian, ready to confess everything.
Paragraph 2:
“You actually knew and didn’t say anything?” I was shocked. Brian just smiled gently and said, “I always knew. But I also knew that you needed that game more than the money at that time. And I was proud of our teamwork, not the prize. I hoped one day you’d understand the real meaning of winning together.” His words made me feel even more ashamed. I apologized sincerely, vowing to make it up to him. From then on, I truly understood my role as his guardian angel and the importance of true brotherhood.

Jeremy had trouble falling asleep. Wide awake, he imagined all the ways Fletch could get hurt outside in the dark, a wave of anxiety sweeping over him once more. With Mum’s comforting words ringing again in his ears, Jeremy sighed with relief and hoped for the best, saying to himself, “Fletch will be all right.” After what seemed a century, Jeremy closed his eyes and finally drifted off to sleep. Then all of a sudden, the sun shone in his eyes, and it was morning.
Jeremy jumped out of the bed, ran straight to the back door and opened it wide. There was Fletch, licking his paws to wash his face. Looking at Jeremy with guilty eyes, Fletch meowed and meowed. Then he slipped inside the door and walked straight to his food bowl. Jeremy called excitedly, “Mum, Fletch is back!” “Thank goodness! Take good care of Fletch, Jeremy!” Mom responded. Jeremy felt extremely relieved that Fletch was safe and sound, promising to close the door nice and tight later on. This time he gave Fletch an extra scoop of cat food, Fletch meowing happily in response.

A few days later, Rascal and her babies returned! The Smiths were overjoyed to see their furry friends again. This time, Rascal seemed more comfortable around the family. She let the kids pet her gently, and the baby raccoons played around the yard fearlessly. The family spent hours watching their antics, feeling a deep sense of connection. The parents, who had once wanted to get rid of them, now found themselves smiling at the cute sight, realizing how much these little creatures had become a part of their lives.
As the summer ended, it was time to say goodbye. The Smiths knew that the raccoons needed to return to their natural habitat. They watched as Rascal led her babies into the forest, feeling a bittersweet sense of loss. But they also felt happy knowing that they had been able to help this wild family. The experience taught the Smiths to respect and coexist with nature, and they would always cherish the memories of their unique summer guests.

At last, I went to find my parents and showed them my new fish. The little goldfish swam happily in the plastic bag the girl gave me, its orange scales shining in the sunlight. My mom bent down and stroked my head gently, her eyes full of warmth. “It’s such a lovely little guy,” she said softly. Dad grinned and ruffled my hair, “You must have tried really hard for it, huh?” I nodded proudly, telling them about the fifteen tries and the girl’s kind extra shot. Holding the bag carefully, I felt my heart filled with joy, forgetting all the disappointment just now.
“Well, honey. What are you going to spend the rest of your money on?” Dad asked. I looked at the goldfish swimming around and thought for a second. “I don’t want to spend it anymore,” I said firmly. “I want to save it to buy food for my goldfish.” Mom and Dad exchanged a smile. Later, we bought a small fishbowl and fish food with part of my money. Every day after that, I fed the goldfish and watched it swim. That little goldfish, a gift of kindness, became my most precious treasure in childhood.

To her horror, the basket was empty. Jane’s heart sank as she frantically searched the yard, her voice trembling with fear as she called Pip’s name. Tears welled up in her eyes as she imagined the worst, fearing that Pip might have been blown away by the storm or hurt by the falling branches. She knelt down, scanning the ground for any sign of the little sparrow, her hands shaking as she picked up twigs and leaves.
At this moment, Mr. Thompson appeared with Pip. He held the sparrow gently in his hands, his expression a mix of concern and embarrassment. “I found him hiding under my porch,” he said, his voice softer than usual. “The storm was too strong for him.” Jane rushed over, tears of relief streaming down her face as she took Pip back. She looked up at Mr. Thompson, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you.” she whispered, her heart overflowing with joy and newfound respect for her neighbor.

One morning, I arrived to find the creek had flooded the garden overnight. The water had carried away vegetables, submerged young tomato plants and bent corn stalks, leaving mud and broken stems scattered everywhere. I stood shaking with despair. Arnold appeared silently, steady and reassuring, “We’ll start from the beginning again.” His calm shocked me. Together we removed water with buckets, replanted what we could, and mended the banks. After hours, the garden seemed to stir back to life.
By autumn, the garden had yielded a rich harvest. Pumpkins lined the paths; red tomatoes clustered on heavy vines. I walked through, filling my basket with beans and corn, and felt the emptiness in my heart fade. When I looked up, I saw Arnold leaning on the fence, wiping sweat from his weathered hands. Beside him, Rena sat on a wooden bench, watching with still peace. The setting sun cast a golden glow. In that moment, I understood this garden was my second chance — I had learned to restart bravely and keep going, no matter what.

Thirty years later, I attended a local education seminar as a famous writer. As I walked into the venue, a familiar figure caught my eye — an elderly lady whom I recognized immediately as Mrs White. My heart raced with excitement. I approached her tentatively, and when she turned around, those warm eyes lit up with recognition. “Li Hua? Is that really you?” she asked softly. I nodded eagerly, introducing myself as the little girl who used to misspell “beautiful” as “baeutiful” but never lost her love for writing, all thanks to her.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged Mrs White tightly. I told her how her red-pen-restraint had shaped my life, allowing me to express freely without fear of mistakes. She smiled gently, patting my back. “I always knew you’ d make good use of words,” she said. “Spelling can be fixed, but passion can’t be restored once crushed.” Before we parted, I handed her a copy of my latest book, inscribed with “To Mrs White — Thank you for letting my words bloom.” As I watched her leave, I realized her kindness wasn’t just a memory; it was a gift that had kept on giving.

Just as the dirt was about to cover the capsules, Mia suddenly stepped forward. She raised her hand to stop the others, her eyes fixed on Ben. With a shaky voice, she told the story of the science lab incident—how she’d knocked over the antique microscope, how Ben had silently taken the blame, and the guilt that had haunted her ever since. As she spoke, her gaze never left Ben’s, and tears glistened in her eyes. The courtyard grew quiet, with only the rustle of oak leaves accompanying her words.
After telling the truth, Mia felt a light tap on her shoulder. She turned to see Ben, his previous sadness replaced by a calm expression. “I’ve waited three years to hear you say that,” he said softly. Mia felt the weight in her chest lift instantly, a wave of relief washing over her. She smiled back at Ben, then bent down to place her envelope into the hole—no longer carrying regret, but the peace of finally telling the truth.

Passage 1
【答案】 After much hesitation, I called Mom for help. Mom picked up the phone at once, her voice gentle as usual. I told her about the old lady, and she asked me to stay with her patiently. Soon, Mom arrived, carrying a small bag with water and snacks. She knelt down softly, held the old lady’s hand, and whispered comforting words. Gradually, the old lady calmed down and pulled out a crumpled photo of a girl — her daughter, Mom told me. At that moment, I saw the same kindness in Mom’s eyes as when she talked about her seniors.
Mom’s gentle care for the old lady inspired me to do something for the nursing home. The next weekend, I went to Greenfield with Mom. I helped her feed the elders, chatted with those who could talk, and even sang the song I prepared for the contest to the Alzheimer’s patients. When I saw their smiling faces, I finally understood Mom’s words. Her “empty seat” was not a sign of neglect, but a proof of love. I felt proud of my mom, and knew that caring for others is the most beautiful thing in the world.
Passage 2

I secretly started to save up my pocket money. I spent less on my school lunch and I didn’t buy any snacks. I even took on a small part-time job to earn extra cash. On weekends, when I usually went out with my friends having fun, I helped my neighbours look after their kids. I put the money they gave me in my piggy bank. Every day, I would take out the money and count it. Day by day, the amount grew larger and it was enough for a gift. And my brother’s birthday was drawing near.
On the day of his birthday, I handed him a box decorated beautifully. When he opened the box, his eyes widened in surprise and joy. He took the shoes, examining them carefully, and said, “I didn’t expect this. You’re the best sister ever!” I hugged him tightly, feeling warmth spreading all over. “You’re the best brother of mine. I’m just returning the kindness you’ve given me.” I replied. Our bond has grown stronger ever since. The shoes became a symbol of our love and support, a reminder that no matter what challenges we faced, we could count on each other to overcome them.

Passage 1
【答案】
“Why not look up the correct way to free a trapped fox online?” suggested Mr. Green. I nodded eagerly, quickly taking out my phone and searching for relevant methods. We followed the steps carefully: I gently wrapped the fox’s body with the soft towel to calm it, while Mr. Green used a small tool to slightly widen the iron bars. I spoke softly to the fox all the time, stroking its fur gently to ease its fear. After a few minutes of careful operation, the fox’s paw was finally free. It jumped back a little, looked at us cautiously for a moment, then turned and ran into the nearby woods, disappearing in the blink of an eye. We both sighed with relief, feeling a sense of joy and accomplishment.
Several days later, Mr. Green called me excitedly and asked me to go to his backyard. When I arrived, I was surprised to see the little fox sitting quietly on the lawn, with a small bunch of wild flowers beside it. Its fur was clean and tidy, and the cut on its paw seemed to have healed. Mr. Green smiled and said it had come back every afternoon since we rescued it, sometimes bringing small gifts like wild flowers or berries. The fox looked up at us, its eyes no longer filled with fear, but with a trace of familiarity. It was a warm moment, showing that kindness can bridge the gap between humans and animals, leaving a beautiful memory in both our hearts.
Passage 2
【答案】One possible version:
With hope, I entered Joy’s backyard. I let out a wolf-whistle, and to my delight, a familiar wolf-whistle echoed from above. There he was, high in a tall tree, his bright blue feathers glowing in the sunshine. I waved the banana in the air, meowing, and repeating, “Hey baby, I have a banana for you!” He turned his head away, ignoring both me and his favorite treat. Refusing to give up, I held the banana closer and called softly again. Finally, he spread his wings, fluttered down little by little and landed safely on my outstretched finger.
After thanking Joy, I headed home with Pawley in my hands. His tiny claws clung softly to my palm and as if sensing my regret, he let out a soft chirp — no wolf-whistle, no silly meow, just a quiet comfort. I walked slowly, eyes locked on his blue feathers, feeling his warm body and tiny heartbeat against my palms. Upon reaching my yard, I opened his cage gently, and he hopped in willingly, then chirped, “You’re a good boy!” I got stunned for a second, then chuckled, “You are a good boy, too.” Relief and resolve wrapped around me — a silent promise to never be so careless again.
Passage 3

Soon, I managed to contact a local beekeeper. When I explained the situation to him, he immediately agreed to come and help. Within an hour, he arrived at my doorstep, carrying a set of special tools and a protective suit. He put on the suit and carefully examined the hive on my balcony. He told me that these bees were actually very beneficial for the environment as they helped with pollination. He then started to plan how to safely move the hive to a more suitable place.
As the beekeeper carefully moved the hive, I watched, full of mixed feelings. On one hand, I was relieved that my family would be safe from potential bee stings. On the other hand, I felt a bit sad to see the bees leave their hard-built home. But I knew it was for the best. The beekeeper assured me that he would find a perfect spot in nature for the bees where they could thrive. As the bees flew away with their hive, I became more aware of the importance of protecting these small creatures and living in harmony with the natural world.

【答案】

The silence was suddenly broken by Teddy’s excited yell, “We got fish!”
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】

【答案】

【答案】

【答案】One possible version:

【答案】范文

【答案】

【答案】

【答案】参考范文
