In Queshan, Henan, there is a special “firework”. It is made from very hot liquid iron (液态铁). People use two sticks to hit the hot iron into the air. Then it becomes beautiful sparks (火花). This is called datiehua.
Datiehua has a history of over 1,000 years. The word “hua” sounds like “fa”. It means becoming rich. So people think datiehua can bring good luck and money. In 2008, China listed it as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产) to protect this tradition.
Yang Bo, 53, is a master of datiehua. He teaches others how to do it.
“Datiehua is dangerous. The liquid iron is hotter than 1,600°C! We first practice with sand (沙子) or water,” Yang says. “We must hit it very high. That can keep us safe. You need to be brave (勇敢的) and good at it.”
Yang and his team do shows across the country. They also post videos online. Thanks to them, datiehua is getting more and more popular. In 2017, there was a show of datiehua on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala.
“I hope more people around the world can see datiehua,” Yang says.

Do you know about AI kitchens? They are not just in films now. AI can do many things in the kitchen. It can even make new recipes (菜谱). This will change our lives. As the saying goes, “Every coin (硬币) has two sides.” The same is true for AI kitchens.
AI kitchens are helpful. They do boring (枯燥的) jobs for people, like cutting potatoes, standing for a long time, or washing dishes. This saves time, so people can do more fun things. AI kitchens can also make food for different tastes.
But there are problems too. Cooking is not just about making food. It is a way for families and friends to be together. If robots do all the cooking, we may lose those happy times. Children may also not learn important life skills.
Also, AI kitchens cannot show cooking culture well. Robots cook in easy ways. They may not make traditional dishes right. This can make food less different and more the same. People don’t want all food to taste the same. They still love traditional cooking.
So, AI kitchens can be very useful. But we need to think about how they change our lives, families, and food. Everyone should use AI kitchens wisely.
37. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers.
C. By asking questions. D. By giving examples.
38. Why does the writer use the saying “Every coin has two sides”?
A. To explain that cooking is difficult.
B. To say that AI kitchens are like money.
C. To tell us that AI kitchens are not very useful.
D. To show that AI kitchens have both good and bad sides.
39. What can we know about traditional cooking from the passage?
A. It isn’t so popular among those food lovers.
B. It can make people enjoy different tastes of food.
C. It can really make all people’s meals taste the same.
D. It can help people save more time to do other things.
40. According to the passage, what may be the writer’s idea?
A. Children will learn more cooking skills from AI kitchens.
B. More people will give up traditional cooking in the future.
C. Soon AI robots will make more delicious food than people.
D. AI kitchens will make lots of families lose happy moments.

The Chinese people have a long history of drinking tea. And they care more about the choice of tea leaves, water, brewing (沏茶) methods and the quality of teapots. Among many kinds of teapots, the zisha teapot played an important role for hundreds of years. This unique clay resource (资源), the zisha clay, is rich in Yixing, a city in Jiangsu Province in the east of China.
Yixing became famous for the zisha pottery from the Ming Dynasty. Yixing zisha teapots, as works of art, are always popular because of their own designs, beautiful shapes and good quality. They can also keep the tea’s colour, smell and taste for a long time.
In recent years, the auction (拍卖) prices of Yixing zisha teapots are always high. You may want to know why a little zisha teapot is so expensive. First, its material, the zisha clay, is really special. This zisha clay can make the teapot have a special structure. It can allow the air to flow freely to better maintain (保持) the tea quality and enhance (增强) the smell. Also, the zisha teapot is difficult to make. It usually takes much time to make a zisha teapot. This adds value to the zisha teapots.
Now people like shopping on the internet, and many craftspeople can sell their zisha teapots online. So more people around the world can have such handicrafts.

Dear Simon,
Thanks for your email. I’m happy to tell you something about my hometown.
My hometown is a quiet and beautiful city. The air is fresh here, and people often take walks in the park or fly kites on weekends. I really love its quiet life and nice views. I live in a flat in the city centre. My neighbourhood is clean and friendly, with a small shop and a library nearby.
I feel very happy living here. It’s a warm place with nice people and a slow pace of life.
I hope you can come and visit one day!
Yours,
Li Lei
