When Lin Qiao graduated from China Agricultural University in 2023, most of her classmates competed for well-paid jobs in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai. But the 24-year-old made an unexpected choice: she returned to her remote mountain village in the Qinling Mountains, to launch an organic farming project.
Lin’s village sits on the hillside, with terraces (梯田) that had been abandoned for years. Local villagers used to grow corn with chemical fertilizers and pesticides (农药), but the income was low, and the soil had been badly degraded. When Lin said she wanted to grow organic kiwifruit without any chemicals, nearly all villagers doubted her. “They said I was wasting my college degree, and that the ‘fancy ideas’ would never work in the mountains,” Lin recalled.
With no initial support, Lin rented 20 acres of abandoned terraces, learned organic planting skills from her former university tutors, and worked in the fields every day. She used fallen leaves to make natural fertilizer, and built small water-saving irrigation systems to protect local water resources. Two years later, her kiwifruit trees bore fruit, and the products sold well online at twice the price of ordinary kiwifruit.
Seeing Lin’s success, villagers began to follow her. She taught them organic planting skills for free, helped them set up online shops, and even built a small study center for local teenagers to learn about ecological protection. By late 2025, over 40 families in the village had joined her project, and the village’s per capita income had doubled.
“Rural vitalization (振兴) isn’t just about new roads or buildings. It’s about giving young people a reason to come home, to make our mountains greener and our villagers richer at the same time,” Lin told Reuters.
4. Why did Lin Qiao return to her hometown?
A. To take a well-paid local job
B. To look after her elderly parents
C. To teach at the local village school
D. To start an organic farming project
5. What challenge did Lin Qiao face at first?
A. Shortage of online sales channels
B. Lack of professional planting skills
C. No support from her university tutors
D. Local villagers’ disbelief in her plan
6. What made Lin’s kiwifruit popular online?
A. Villagers’ nationwide promotion
B. Its chemical-free organic quality
C. The university’s advertising help
D. Its lower price than ordinary kiwifruit
7. What can we infer from Lin Qiao’s story?
A. College graduates can only succeed in rural areas
B. Young people can play a key role in rural development
C. Organic farming is the only choice for China’s agriculture
D. Online sales are the only way to increase villagers’ income
D 5. D 6. B 7. B

C
When we are healthy, breathing happens naturally and easily. Without much effort on our part, the human respiratory (呼吸的) system works hard. Experts say we take about 20, 000 breaths every day.
When you breathe deeply, the air coming in through your nose fully fills your lungs, and the lower belly (腹部) rises. Deep breathing may slow the heartbeat, lower blood pressure and lower stress. Deep breaths help your body fully exchange incoming oxygen with outgoing carbon dioxide.
However, many people do the opposite of deep breathing. They take short breaths and have shallow breathing. Experts call this “chest breathing”. Shallow breathing limits the expansion (扩张) of the diaphragm (隔膜) and its movement. The lowest part of the lungs does not get a full share of fresh air. This can make you feel short of breath and worried, or anxious.
Shallow breathing, over time, leaves old, unfresh air in the lungs. This leaves less room for the diaphragm to bring in fresh oxygen. And that means lower oxygen levels and less oxygen for exercise and activity.
Several health websites explain an easy deep breathing exercise. Find a place to lie down. Place one hand just below your ribs (肋骨). Take a slow, deep breath through your nose. Feel your hand go up. Your stomach should rise and expand. Now breathe out slowly through your mouth. Make sure to breathe out all the way. Feel your hand and stomach go down.
If done repeatedly, breathing exercises can help remove unfresh air from the lungs. This will increase oxygen levels and get the diaphragm to return to its job of helping you breathe. Deep breathing is a good way to reduce stress and relax.
Shortness of breath happens when you are worried, frightened, or are in poor physical shape. But it can also be a sign of health problems.
8. What is the harm of chest breathing?
A. It makes the body take in more oxygen.
B. It allows the diaphragm to move freely.
C. It speeds up the exchange of oxygen and CO₂.
D. It cuts down oxygen supply and brings discomfort.
9. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. Benefits of deep breathing.
B. Problems caused by shallow breathing.
C. Steps to perform a deep breathing exercise.
D. Reasons why people feel short of breath.
10. Why might shortness of breath be a serious concern?
A. It can be a sign of an underlying health problem.
B. It always indicates someone is very frightened.
C. It proves the person is not breathing deeply enough.
D. It happens only to those in poor physical condition.
11. Which could be a suitable title for the text?
A. Shallow Breathing and Its Harms B. Deep Breathing: Benefits and Practice
C. How to Control Your Breathing Rate D. The Dangers of Shortness of Breath
D 9. C 10. A 11. B
根据第三段中的“Shallow breathing limits the expansion (扩张) of the diaphragm (隔膜) and its movement. The lowest part of the lungs does not get a full share of fresh air. This can make you feel short of breath and worried, or anxious.(浅呼吸限制了隔膜的扩张及其运动。肺的最下部无法获得充足的新鲜空气。这会让你感到气短、担忧或焦虑)”和第四段中的“Shallow breathing, over time, leaves old, unfresh air in the lungs. This leaves less room for the diaphragm to bring in fresh oxygen. And that means lower oxygen levels and less oxygen for exercise and activity.(久而久之,浅呼吸会在肺部留下陈旧、不新鲜的空气。这使得隔膜吸入新鲜氧气的空间变小。这意味着氧气水平降低,用于运动和活动的氧气也会减少)”可知,胸式呼吸(浅呼吸)会减少氧气供应,并带来气短、焦虑等不适。故选D项。
【9题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第五段中的“Several health websites explain an easy deep breathing exercise. Find a place to lie down. Place one hand just below your ribs (肋骨). Take a slow, deep breath through your nose. Feel your hand go up. Your stomach should rise and expand. Now breathe out slowly through your mouth. Make sure to breathe out all the way. Feel your hand and stomach go down.(一些健康网站介绍了一种简单的深呼吸练习。

D
Contagious yawning (传染性哈欠) has long been seen in warm-blooded animals: besides us, they include chimps, lions and wolves. But Elisabetta Palagi, a scientist from the University of Pisa, says it has been proven in a cold-blooded species for the first time.
Palagi and her team set out to confirm if fish yawn and if it’s contagious. They chose zebrafish, a common freshwater fish, raised at home, and observed 18 zebrafish in the lab. The fish usually breathed by quickly opening and closing their mouth, but sometimes they opened their mouth slowly. They also stretched (使变大) it wide and then closed it suddenly. This seemed to mimic what scientists usually describe in other animals as yawning.
The researchers noted many differences between a fish’s normal breathing and a yawn. For example, the fish opened their mouth wider during a yawn than when simply breathing. And about half the time, a yawning fish also stretched its body. This is “very interesting,” Palagi says, and something “we did not expect to find”.
The team trained an AI model to recognize these yawning features. After feeding it video screenshots (屏幕截图), the AI could tell yawns from normal breathing, just like the researchers. Next, they showed zebrafish two types of videos: one of a yawning zebrafish and the other of one breathing normally.
Tested many times on many fish, the results showed fish were more than twice as likely to yawn when watching yawning videos — proving contagious yawning. Also, lab fish that yawned in response often changed swimming direction; since wild zebrafish swim in large groups, researchers think this helps them coordinate (协调) their movements.
Not everyone is buying it. Cait Newport, a biologist from the University of Oxford, says that it’s still unclear why fish would yawn together. She notes the directional change doesn’t prove that fish in the wild would use yawning to coordinate their movements. Noam Miller, a psychologist at Canada’s Wilfrid Laurier University, points out that we need to know if fish yawn contagiously for the same reasons as warm-blooded animals.
Palagi says why animals yawn is still an open question, but zebrafish are perfect for further study. “This study opens the floodgates for many more studies to come.”
12. What does the underlined word “mimic” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Hide. B. Speed.
C. Point out. D. Look like.
13. What did the researchers need to do during the study?
A. Tell zebrafish’s yawns from their normal breathing.
B. Compare home-raised zebrafish to wild zebrafish.
C. Let zebrafish see some videos of human yawning.
D. Use an AI model to control videos of zebrafish.
14. What did the researchers find?
A. Wild zebrafish changed direction after yawning.
B. Zebrafish yawned more than warm-blooded species.
C. Zebrafish yawned when seeing other fish yawn in videos.
D. Contagious yawning helped zebrafish find food in groups.
15. What is Cait Newport’s attitude towards the research?
A. Curious. B. Doubtful.
C. Positive. D. Unclear.
D 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据第二段“The fish usually breathed by quickly opening and closing their mouth, but sometimes they opened their mouth slowly. They also stretched (使变大) it wide and then closed it suddenly. This seemed to mimic what scientists usually describe in other animals as yawning.(这些鱼通常通过快速张合嘴巴来呼吸,但有时它们会缓慢地张开嘴,还会把嘴张得很大,随后猛地闭上。这一行为似乎mimic科学家在其他动物身上所说的打哈欠。)”可知,这里描述这些鱼的动作就像打哈欠一样,所以猜测mimic的意思是“看起来像、模仿”。故选D项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“After feeding it video screenshots (屏幕截图), the AI could tell yawns from normal breathing, just like the researchers.(在输入视频截图后,人工智能能够像研究人员一样区分哈欠和正常呼吸。)” 故选A项。
根据第五段“Tested many times on many fish, the results showed fish were more than twice as likely to yawn when watching yawning videos — proving contagious yawning.(经过多次对多条鱼的测试,结果显示斑马鱼观看打哈欠视频时,打哈欠的概率高出两倍多,证明了哈欠具有传染性。)”
根据第六段“Not everyone is buying it. Cait Newport, a biologist from the University of Oxford, says that it’s still unclear why fish would yawn together. She notes the directional change doesn’t prove that fish in the wild would use yawning to coordinate their movements.(并非所有人都认同这一观点。牛津大学生物学家Cait Newport 表示,鱼类为何会集体打哈欠目前仍无定论。她指出,这种方向上的变化,并不能证明野生鱼类会借助打哈欠来协调自身的游动。)”可知,Cait Newport对该研究结论持怀疑态度。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I loved music. Every day after work, I would put on my earphones and lose myself in songs. I had played the guitar for years, though I was no expert. It was simply my way to relax. So, when I moved into the new apartment, I brought my guitar and my love for music with me.
For the first few weeks, the apartment next door remained silent. I knew someone lived there, but I never saw the person. The door was always closed. Then, one quiet afternoon, while I was reading, I heard a sound. It was so faint that I held my breath to catch it. It was from a violin. The music was low and slow, each note seeming to carry a weight of years, like someone telling a sad, beautiful story without words. I put down my book and listened. The melody seemed to be filled with loneliness and memories, and I felt a strange ache in my heart.
The next day, I heard it again. This time, I felt a strong pull. I walked to his door and knocked softly. The music stopped. My heart beat faster. After a long moment, the door opened a little. An old man with silver hair looked at me. He said nothing. Feeling a bit awkward, I smiled and said, “Hello, I’m your neighbor. I heard you playing the violin. It was incredibly beautiful. I play the guitar a little bit, I just wanted to say hello.” He looked at me for a while, and then a smile appeared on his face.
He opened the door wider and invited me in. I stepped inside, noticing a worn armchair by the window and the smell of old books. His home was simple, filled with books and old photos. In the corner stood a music stand. Next to it was a small table with a photo of a woman, smiling gently. That first meeting was short, but it was the beginning of our friendship. As I turned to leave, he said softly, “Thank you for listening.” Those simple words warmed my heart. I knew we would become friends.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A few days later, I visited him again with my guitar. I knocked on his door, feeling a little nervous. When he opened it and saw the guitar, his eyes widened with interest. I asked if he would like to hear me play something. He nodded and gestured for me to sit down. I played a simple folk song I had learned years ago. When I finished, he clapped softly and said, “Your music is lovely.” Then, he went to his corner, picked up his violin, and played a short, sweet melody in return. It was his way of saying he accepted me. From that moment, our unspoken bond grew stronger.
From that day on, we began to spend time together. He told me he was a former violinist in the city orchestra. After his wife passed away, he moved here and rarely went out. Music was his only comfort. Sometimes, we would try to play together, the guitar and the violin finding a common tune. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was always joyful. We didn’t talk much. Our conversations were in the notes we played. We shared our sadness and our happiness through the music. He was no longer just my neighbor; he was my teacher and my friend.
