Julio Cortázar, a celebrated figure in 20th-century literature, was born in Brussels in 1914 but grew up in Argentina. His life was marked by a constant movement between cultures, eventually settling in Paris in 1951. This unique background fueled his desire to break free from traditional storytelling methods.
He is best known for his masterpiece, Hopscotch (Rayuela), published in 1963. Unlike standard novels that follow a straight path, Hopscotch invites readers to play a game. Cortázar provided a “Table of Instructions,” allowing the book to be read in two distinct ways: sequentially from chapter 1 to 56, or by jumping back and forth through 155 chapters. This revolutionary style turned the act of reading into a creative collaboration between the author and the reader.
Beyond novels, Cortázar was a genius of the short story. His collections, such as Blow-up and Other Stories, are famous for introducing strange, almost magical events into everyday settings. He believed that reality was not just what we see, but something much deeper and often mysterious. His stories challenge readers to question the world around them.
As a key member of the “Latin American Boom,” Cortázar influenced a generation of writers, including Gabriel García Márquez. He passed away in 1984, but his experimental spirit lives on. Today, his works remain a testament to the idea that literature should be an adventure, not just a lesson.
24. What do we know about Julio Cortázar’s life from the text?
A. He was born in Argentina and died in Brussels.
B. He lived in different countries and cultures.
C. He spent his whole life in Paris writing novels.
D. He moved to Paris immediately after he was born.
25. How is the novel Hopscotch different from traditional novels?
A. It has fewer than 50 chapters in total.
B. It does not have a clear story to follow.
C. It offers readers a choice in how to read it.
D. It was written by Gabriel García Márquez.
26. What is a typical feature of Cortázar’s short stories?
A. They are all based on historical facts.
B. They mix daily life with mysterious elements.
C. They are written specifically for children.
D. They focus on the beauty of nature in Argentina.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards Cortázar’s works?
A. Critical and doubtful. B. Objective and neutral.
C. Appreciative and favorable. D. Surprised but reserved.

Iceland lost its distinction this month of being one of the last places in the world without a confirmed sighting of wild mosquitoes, and their presence was discovered thanks to a rope dipped in sugary red wine in a garden. Bug enthusiast Bjorn Hjaltason has long used “wine roping” — cloth dipped in sugared wine as a lure — to attract insects to his house, which usually draws moths (飞蛾), according to entomologist Matthias S. Alfredsson, who occasionally cooperates with him.
Last Thursday, Hjaltason noticed an unusual bug and wondered if it was a mosquito. He sent a photo to Alfredsson, who went to check in person and confirmed his hunch: three mosquitoes, two females and one male, were found at the property. Icelandic scientists now wonder whether these mosquitoes are short-lived visitors or the start of a new native population.
Mosquito experts say the discovery shows how rapid climate change and globalization are changing Iceland. Over the past four decades, Iceland’s insect life has grown, coinciding with the skyrocketing number of international travelers and transports, which gives insects more chances to arrive. Meanwhile, climate change has transformed the country, with one glacier melting and some native plants at risk of extinction.
Alfredsson said Iceland’s extensive insect monitoring makes a previous mosquito population unlikely; any past ones probably died out without establishing a stable position. It remains unclear if the discovery is a coincidence, and more monitoring is needed to see if the three mosquitoes have truly become established in Iceland. For now, all three are stored in Alfredsson’s freezer.
28. What can we learn about “wine roping”?
A. It was created by a professional entomologist.
B. It is particularly effective in catching mosquitoes.
C. It normally brings moths to Hjaltason’s garden.
D. It aims to monitor the country’s insect diversity.
29. What does the underlined word “hunch” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. A strong doubt. B. His own sense. C. His careful plan. D. A final conclusion.
30. What can be inferred from the text about Iceland?
A. International transport is responsible for the extinction of native plants.
B. The country will soon be covered with various kinds of insects.
C. Its insect monitoring system failed to work in the past few decades.
D. Its ecosystem is being influenced by human activities and climate change.
31. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a creative way of studying insects in different situations.
B. To explain why mosquitoes appear in Iceland suddenly.
C. To show the discovery of mosquitoes in Iceland and its meaning.
D. To stress the importance of animal protection in the world.
D
The first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area marine underwater robot application challenge was held in an active marine ranch (牧场) in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, moving tests from labs to the open sea to explore how robots can boost the smart ocean economy.
In late March, 16 teams competed in real-sea conditions with strong currents, waves and turbidity, performing daily tasks for marine ranching: recovering anchors, harvesting shellfish and cleaning biofouling (生物污损). Judges said the real environment pushed robots to be practical, cost-effective and ready for commercial use.
The event addresses real industry pain points. Typhoon Ragasa in 2025 caused heavy losses to local marine ranches, with over 700 anchors lost. Human divers are too expensive, so underwater robots are in urgent need. Winning teams showed strong autonomy and anti-disturbance ability. A Shenzhen company’s cleaning robot works 24 hours, 10 times more efficient than traditional ways. Westlake University won first prize with embodied AI, multimodal perception and large language models.
Before the challenge, organizers offered a 150-million-yuan demand list, attracting over 100 million yuan in potential orders. Four winners have agreed to settle in Zhuhai.
China’s underwater robotics market exceeded 10 billion yuan in 2024 and is expected to hit 40 billion yuan by 2027. Named a strategic emerging industry in 2025, deep-sea technology supports Zhuhai’s marine development with dozens of innovation platforms and high-tech enterprises. The contest links industry, academia and application, upgrading marine ranching and building Zhuhai into a marine hub.
32. What is the main purpose of the underwater robot challenge held in Zhuhai?
A. To test robot models in the controlled laboratory tanks.
B. To apply underwater robots to real marine ranching tasks.
C. To design new types of robots for deep-sea exploration.
D. To train operators for underwater robot management.
33. Why are underwater robots badly needed by marine ranches?
A. Robots can replace all workers in marine industries.
B. Typhoons can be prevented by using robots.
C. Robots help increase the variety of marine life.
D. Human diving work is costly and inefficient.
34. What can we infer about the underwater robotics industry in China?
A. It will remain at the laboratory stage for a long time.
B. Its market scale is expected to grow rapidly by 2027.
C. It has received no financial support from the government.
D. Zhuhai plays a minor role in its industrial development.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Underwater Robots Aid Global Marine Projects Greatly
B. Smart Tech Greatly Boosts Bay Area Marine Economy
C. Robots Upgrade Marine Ranching in the Greater Bay Area
D. Some Tech Challenges in the Chinese Underwater Industry

The belief in talking to plants has existed for centuries. Ancient civilizations, such as the Greeks and local cultures, believed plants responded to energy, emotion, and sound. ___36___ That laid the basis for the idea of a psychological connection between humans and nature.
Technically, plants don’t have ears or a nervous system, so they don’t “hear” in the traditional sense. However, studies have shown plants can detect vibrations (振动) in their environment — including sound waves produced by human speech or music. ___37___ For instance, South Korean researchers found certain plant genes responded positively to classical music and human voice frequencies.
Some studies suggest that plants respond more favorably to female voices than male voices due to differences in pitch (音高) and frequency. Music types like classical or jazz have shown positive results, while loud rock music may stress plants. Ultimately, regularity and loudness may influence the result. ___38___
___39___ However, there are enough facts to suggest that plants are sensitive to their environments — including sound. Whether it’s the vibration from your voice or the regular care that comes from daily contact, your plants might just benefit.
Talking to plants may not be magic, but it does encourage a deeper connection with nature, mindful gardening, and perhaps even a little extra vibrational help. ___40___ Either way, your plant may thank you in its own green way. So go ahead — speak softly some words of encouragement to your favorite leafy green plant.
A. Genes play an important role in plants’ growth.
B. You may rely on science or just care for plants well.
C. Nobody has observed plants react to external factors.
D. We haven’t proven talking to plants directly speeds growth.
E. They can detect and respond to sounds like speech or music.
F. Gentle and calm sounds seem to create vibrations that are more beneficial for plants.
G. In the 1840s, German professor Gustav Fechner suggested plants might have feelings.

At the same time, I worry about what will ___49___ the human heart of food when ___50___ prepare and deliver our meals to us.
Long before we can speak, we are ___51___. Through food, we receive our first experiences of safety, care and attention. A warm bowl of rice in a kitchen filled with laughter. These are ___52___ meals. They are ___53___: You are loved. You belong.

For three years, Max had been an ideal cat. He was the favorite pet of Sara and David, a young couple living in a peaceful neighborhood with green trees and quiet streets. Every morning, Max would sit on the window ledge, staring at the street quietly, his eyes following every passing passerby and bicycle. Every evening, he would curl up on Sara’s lap while she read, purring softly to show his comfort and joy. He seemed completely satisfied with his peaceful life with the couple.
However, Max began to disappear frequently. He would leave home after breakfast and not return until late at night, sometimes even staying out all night. At first, Sara and David were deeply worried, fearing he might get hurt or lost. But each time Max came back, he looked clean, relaxed, and not hungry at all. David joked that Max might have a secret second family, but Sara only laughed it off, unable to solve the mystery.
The truth finally came out one afternoon when Sara walked home from work. Turning the corner, she stopped in shock. Two houses away, Max was sitting on a stranger’s step, completely at ease. Around his neck was a new small blue collar with a shiny tag — one Sara never bought — and her heart sank a little.
Before she could move, the door opened. A little girl stepped out, knelt down, and stroked Max gently behind the ears. “Good boy, Oliver,” she said softly. “Did you have fun today?” Sara stood frozen, unable to believe her ears. Oliver? She watched the girl hold Max and go inside. For a moment, she didn’t know whether to laugh, feel sad, or simply knock on the door.
Paragraph 1: After standing there for a long time, Sara took a deep breath and walked toward the front door.

Paragraph 2: Having learned the real story, Sara looked at the little girl and Max in her arms, her heart softened.

M: I’ll give her a ring now and find out more. If it’s what we think it is, I’ll report the account and get it taken down. Meanwhile, can you get on the group chat and let Mom, Dad, and everyone know not to accept the request?
W: Okay. What could happen if they do accept?
M: Who knows? Sometimes copied accounts are used to target friends and family for money.
W: Oh, gosh! We can’t let that happen. She’d be so upset.
M: I know. So, let’s sort it out.

M: It’s a beautiful day.
W: We should take a walk around the lake once we’ve finished these ice creams.
M: Sounds good to me! So, how are things, Alice?
W: Good! I think I’m finally in a place where I can forgive Rachel.
M: Really? I’m not sure I could do that. You could have lost your job!
W: I know. But the truth is out now. Everyone knows she messed up that customer presentation, not me. Although she didn’t do it on purpose, she can’t deny it. Besides, losing her management position seems to have taught her a lesson.
M: Still… That doesn’t mean you have to accept what she did.
W: No. But forgiveness isn’t about excusing someone’s actions. It’s about letting go. I’m in a new department and rarely see her at the office now. My anger only hurt me, not her.
M: Hmm… Wise words!
W: I can’t forget what happened, but avoiding those negative feelings has helped me find peace again.
M: Well, I think it’s very big of you!
W: Thanks. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. I feel so much lighter.

【原文】 Good morning, everyone. Your generation finds itself in an interesting situation. Right now, you’re studying for an exam that will hopefully get you into college and prepare you for a successful career. At the same time, you’re watching the world of work changing and rebuilding itself before your eyes.
With thousands of jobs already lost to AI and robots, how can you ensure that the path you choose won’t lead you to a “dead end”. The answer lies in developing skills that machines cannot easily replace.
For example, computers can process information quickly, but they still struggle with creative solutions and complex decision-making. People who can think independently to find solutions and bring fresh ideas will always be most valued by employers.
Secondly, no matter how advanced technology becomes, businesses will still need people who can work well with others and build relationships with a variety of people. Also, thanks to working from home, many of us are already working with people from different backgrounds. So, language skills and cultural awareness are becoming more and more important.
Be open to change and to learning new things, as this is the only way to keep pace in such a fast-moving world.

C

分析句子可知,此处为“one...the other...”
The Terracotta Army,The Terracotta Army和build为被动关系,所以为过去分词形式。
此处为固定句型,“sth is believed to do sth”表示 “某物被认为……”,所以为不定式to cover。

【答案】范文1:
Paragraph 1: After standing there for a long time, Sara took a deep breath and walked toward the front door. An elderly woman answered the door. Noticing Sara’s gaze fixed on Max, she sighed, “You’ve found Oliver-your cat.” Leading Sara inside, she pointed to Max resting on a pale-faced girl’s lap. Months ago, she explained, Max had wandered into their yard during a storm. Her granddaughter Lily, having been bedridden for a year, named him Oliver. The blue collar, bought only last week, was never meant to hide the truth — they simply hadn’t known.
Paragraph 2: Having learned the real story, Sara looked at the little girl and Max in her arms, her heart softened. Kneeling down, Sara smiled warmly, “Max chose you, Lily. How about he visits you every afternoon?” The girl’s eyes sparkled with unexpected joy. From then on, Max wore two collars — one blue, one red — dividing his time between two families. Rather than feeling hurt, Sara found herself grateful that her cat had so much love to give and two homes to call his own.
范文2:
Paragraph 1:
After standing there for a long time, Sara took a deep breath and walked toward the front door. She knocked gently, and the door was opened by an elderly woman with kind eyes. Before Sara could explain, the woman’s face lit up with recognition. “You must be here for Oliver — I mean, your cat,” she said softly, guiding Sara inside. There, on the sofa, Max was lying comfortably in the little girl’s lap, purring loudly. The girl, whose pale face suggested a long illness, looked up nervously. “Grandma, is she here to take Oliver away?” she whispered. The old woman sighed and explained that they had found Max wandering into their yard several months ago, thin and seeking shelter during a heavy rain. Her granddaughter, Lily, had been bedridden for nearly a year due to a serious illness, and Max’s daily visits had become her only joy. They had bought the blue collar only last week, never imagining the cat had another home.
Paragraph 2:
After learning the real story, Sara looked at the little girl and Max in her arms, her heart softened. She saw how Max pressed his head against Lily’s palm and how Lily’s thin fingers gently stroked his fur — a silent bond built on months of quiet companionship. Sara knelt down and said with a warm smile, “You know, Max has never been so attached to anyone outside our family. He chose you, Lily.” The girl’s eyes widened with hope. “Could he still visit sometimes?” she asked hesitantly. Sara nodded and proposed a simple arrangement: Max would spend mornings at her home and afternoons with Lily. From that day on, the cat wore two collars — one blue, one red — and brought together two families who had never spoken before. And every evening, when Max returned to Sara’s lap, she no longer felt jealous, only grateful that her cat had so much love to give.

You're studying for exam that will hopefully get you into college and prepare you for a successful career. At the same time, you're watching the world of work changing and rebuilding itself before your eyes. With thousands of jobs already lost you, AI and robots, how can you ensure that the path you choose won't lead you to a dead end? The answer lies in developing skills that machines cannot easily replace. For example, computers can process information quickly, but they still struggle with creative solutions and complex decision making. People who can think independently to find solutions and bring fresh ideas will always be most valued by employers. Secondly, no matter how advanced technology becomes, businesses will still need people who can work well with others and build relationships with a variety of people. Also, thanks to working from home, many of us are already working with people from different backgrounds, so language skills and cultural awareness are becoming more and more important. Be open to change and to learning new things, as this is the only way to keep pace in such a fast within world. Good morning, everyone.
