Isaac Asimov, one of the most influential science fiction writers, shaped our view of the future. Born in Russia in 1920, he moved to the US in 1923. Though he earned a PhD in chemistry and taught biochemistry at Boston University, his true passion was writing. In 1939, at the age of 19, he sold his first story to Amazing Stories and soon became a regular contributor to science fiction magazines.
Asimov’s fiction covered a wide range, including robotics, space travel, psychology, and history. In his I, Robot series, he portrayed robots as intelligent beings deserving ethical consideration, changing how people thought about them. His Foundation series imagined vast galactic empires spanning centuries and introduced the concept of “psychohistory”. He also coined terms like “hyperspace” and “hyperdrive”, now common in science fiction. Beyond fiction, he wrote numerous non-fiction works, such as Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare, and children’s books like the Lucky Starr series. With over 500 books to his name, he won multiple Hugo and Nebula awards, influencing societal views on science and technology.
Asimov’s influence extended far beyond his own writing. Authors like Frank Herbert (Dune) and Liu Cixin (The Three-Body Problem) were inspired by his epic narratives. Moreover, he helped transform science fiction from simple fantastical and horror-fueled tales into a genre that explores philosophical and optimistic ideas about the future. His impact can be seen in modern pop culture, such as Star Trek. In 1977, he founded Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, providing opportunities for new writers just as he once had. He continued writing until his death in 1992, leaving behind a legacy that still inspires today.
24. What can we learn about Isaac Asimovin the first paragraph?

27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Celebrating 75 Years of Foundation

The start of a new year is often seen as a chance for personal change. But many people today feel less motivated than before. With mental wellness declining, especially among young people, imagining change can be hard. My research focuses on “possibility thinking”— how people see what could be different and feel able to act. A 2024 study found that these elements need to support each other. When people see opportunities but feel unable to act, or feel motivated but can’t imagine alternatives, real change is difficult.
In a 2025 study, teachers learned their school would be torn down and they had to move. Most felt tired, not excited. This shows how unfair or unsupported changes make people resist new beginnings. Decades of research show that motivation is shaped by context. Time pressure, financial stress, and daily responsibilities all limit what people can change, no matter how strong their intentions are. Instead of aiming for big changes, it’s more realistic to ask what small shifts are possible. For example, someone with limited time might try a 10-minute daily walk and adjust it based on what works.
Research also shows that shared responsibility helps sustain change. A family might agree to eat more home-cooked meals, with each person taking on a small task. That way, change is carried by the group, not just one person. In a world full of uncertainty, we can’t rely on “starting fresh” to find new energy. Instead, we can renew ourselves by thinking in new ways — together with others, within our limits, and with hope for small but positive changes.
28. What is necessary for “possibility thinking” to work well?
A. Support among its key parts.
B. Exploration of new things.
C. Confidence in one’s ability to act.
D. Strong personal motivation.
29. Why does the author mention the study of teachers moving to a new school?
A. To show why people resist new beginnings.
B. To explain how people adapt to sudden changes.
C. To explore what encourages people to start over.
D. To show how unjust changes kill the desire for a fresh start.
30. What have decades of studies found about changes?
A. It depends mainly on willpower.
B. Shared goals are harder to achieve.
C. It is affected by one’s environment.
D. Financial pressure is the biggest obstacle.
31. What does the author suggest for making changes in the last paragraph?
A. Keeping learning to stay motivated.
B. Making small changes within your limits.
C. Relying on others to support your goals.
D. Aiming for big changes by ignoring limits.

QuantumCTek, a pioneer in quantum (量子) communication, is turning cutting-edge quantum science into real-world products. Founded in 2009 at the University of Science and Technology of China, the company has grown from a lab team into a national “little giant” enterprise. “We always had a clear goal: to bring quantum technology into real life.” said Zhou Lei, project director.
The company develops equipment for quantum-secure communication networks. One of its achievements is the development of ground stations connected to the Micius quantum satellite, enabling ultra-secure long-distance communication. “Micius proved that quantum communication truly works in space and on Earth.” Zhou said.
QuantumCTek has also launched consumer-friendly products like quantum-encrypted calls and messages. By changing a normal SIM card into a quantum SIM card and installing an app, users can enjoy end-to-end encryption (加密). “Our technologies are already serving about 6 million users and more than 3,000 organizations.” said Gu Fengbo, a technical expert.
Unlike traditional encryption, quantum communication uses quantum states as information carriers. Any attempt to eavesdrop changes these states and is immediately detected, which helps protect privacy. The most practical form today is Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). “QKD creates keys based on quantum physics, making them impossible to copy or steal,” Gu explained.
Although some think quantum technology is far from daily life, its importance is growing. Countries like China, the US, and those in the EU are building their own quantum networks. A report cited by the World Economic Forum predicts the global quantum communication market could reach $ 15 billion by 2035. “In the future, information security will be a basic need, like clean water and electricity,” said Zhou. “Quantum communication will be a key way to protect it.”
32. What is the main goal of QuantumCTek?
A. To expand its global market.
B. To focus on theoretical research.
C. To turn quantum technology into practical products.
D. To compete with traditional communication companies.
33. How does quantum encryption protect users’ privacy?
A. By changing passwords regularly.
B. By detecting any attempt to get information.
C. By using a special SIM card and an app.
D. By installing firewalls to prevent insecure access.
34. What does the underlined word “eavesdrop” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Listen secretly. B. Watch carefully.
C. Destroy publicly. D. Gain completely.
35. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. The economic forecast of the quantum communication market.
B. The widespread doubt about quantum technology’s practicality.
C. The international competition in quantum network construction.
D. The growing importance and future role of quantum communication.

Mark and Elena were finally in their seats. They had been looking forward to this trip to Rome for months, saving every cent they could. As the plane took off, the steady hum of the engines seemed to promise a long, peaceful flight. Elena put on her sleep mask, and Mark adjusted his headphones, ready to watch a movie and relax. “We finally made it, honey,” Mark said, leaning back with a sigh of relief.
But the peace didn’t last long. Just after the pilot turned off the seat belt sign, a baby began to cry in the row behind them. It wasn’t just a soft whimper (呜咽); it was a loud, sharp cry that echoed through the small cabin. Mark took off his headphones and frowned. He looked at his watch and then at Elena, his face showing his frustration. Around them, other passengers were starting to whisper and glance back with annoyed expressions. The calm mood of the flight had disappeared.
Removing the sleep mask, Elena turned around and saw a young woman traveling alone. She looked completely exhausted. With one hand, she was trying to rock the baby, and with the other, she was searching through a messy bag for something. In her hurry, she accidentally dropped the pacifier (安抚奶嘴), which rolled down the aisle and stopped right at Mark’s feet, The baby cried even louder.
Mark stared at the pacifier. “I can’t believe this,” he muttered, reaching for the call button to complain to the flight attendant. He felt that after paying so much for the tickets, he deserved a quiet flight. However, Elena placed her hand over his, stopping him. She unbuckled her seat belt, reached down to pick up the pacifier and wiped it clean.

【原文】W: This year’s World Environment Day spotlighted the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution”. In China, a group of young entrepreneurs are responding to that call and paving the way for a plastic-free future. Gao Chao, from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, is the founder of the fashion brand UOOSEE. She has partnered with nearly 2,000 bike shops, recycling over 3,000 tires each month. These old bicycle tires are transformed into high-quality backpacks. Meanwhile, How Bottle takes a different approach — turning plastic bottles and fishing nets into recycled plastic, which is then used to make bags, hats, and even eyeglasses. “Materials themselves aren’t inherently guilty,” said founder Lun Jiayu, from Foshan, Guangdong Province. “If plastic can be recycled or kept within human society rather than ending up in nature, it still has value.” Another alternative comes from bamboo. The brand AbuSolutely, founded in 2011 by Ren Yao from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, creates bamboo bicycles. “I was inspired by a photo of a bamboo bicycle from a century ago in Britain,” Ren recalled.
AbuSolutely’s bamboo bikes have not only received certification from the European Union (EU) bicycle industry but also passed a test — Ren himself rode one from Chengdu to Lhasa, successfully completing the challenging 2,600-km journey.

A. He was born in the United States.
B. He only wrote science fiction stories.
C. He sold his amazing story in 1939.
D. He obtained a doctorate in chemistry.
25. How did Asimov contribute to the development of science fiction?
A. By shifting it toward other types.
B. By founding the first science fiction magazine.
C. By focusing on fantastical and horror elements.
D. By introducing advanced mathematical theories.
26. Which of the following best describes Isaac Asimov?
A. Productive. B. Humble.
C. Generous. D. Courageous.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Celebrating 75 Years of Foundation
B. How Science Fiction Became Reality
C. The Life and Legacy of Isaac Asimov
D. Asimov’s Role in Modern Pop Culture
【答案】24. D 25. A 26. A 27. C

【答案】28. A 29. D 30. C 31. B
【解析】
【导语】主要探讨在新年伊始人们常期望个人改变,然而当下许多人动力不足,尤其年轻人心理健康下滑,实现改变困难。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“A 2024 study found that these elements need to support each other. When people see opportunities but feel unable to act, or feel motivated but can’t imagine alternatives, real change is difficult.(2024年的一项研究发现,这些要素需要相互支持。当人们看到机会但觉得无法行动,或者有动力但无法想象其他选择时,真正的改变就很难实现)”可知,“可能性思维”要良好发挥作用,其关键部分之间的相互支持是必要的。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“In a 2025 study, teachers learned their school would be torn down and they had to move. Most felt tired, not excited. This shows how unfair or unsupported changes make people resist new beginnings.(在 2025 年的一项研究中,老师们得知所在学校将要拆除,他们必须搬迁。大多数人感到身心疲惫,毫无欣喜之感。这表明不公平或无支持的改变是如何使人们抗拒新起点的)”可知,作者提到教师搬到新学校的研究,是为了说明不公平的改变会扼杀人们对新起点的渴望。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Decades of research show that motivation is shaped by context. Time pressure, financial stress, and daily responsibilities all limit what people can change, no matter how strong their intentions are.(数十年的研究表明,动机是由环境塑造的。时间压力、经济压力和日常责任都限制了人们能做出的改变,无论他们的意愿有多强烈)”可知,数十年的研究发现改变受个人所处环境的影响。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Instead, we can renew ourselves by thinking in new ways — together with others, within our limits, and with hope for small but positive changes.(相反,我们可以通过新的思维方式来自我更新——与他人一起,在我们的能力范围内,并对微小但积极的改变抱有希望)”可知,作者在最后一段建议在自身能力范围内进行小改变。

【答案】
“Do you need help?” Elena asked, handing the pacifier back to the woman. The young mother looked up, her eyes red and tired. “I’m so sorry for the noise,” she said quietly. “It’s just — he won’t stop crying, and I can’t find his milk.” Elena smiled warmly. “Let me hold him for a moment while you get organized.” Carefully, she took the baby, gently rocking him in her arms. To everyone’s surprise, the baby slowly calmed down, his crying fading into soft breaths.
Mark’s frustration melted away as he saw how Elena cared for the baby. Watching his wife patiently hum, he felt a shift within himself. He unbuckled his seat belt and turned to the mother. “Do you need some warm water?” he offered. The woman nodded gratefully. Soon, other passengers joined in — offering a blanket or snacks. The cabin, once filled with annoyance, now felt warm and connected. Mark smiled at Elena. Sometimes, a little kindness could change everything.
